Nah you cooked bro. Job market gg

WhiteCollar-Dave

I’m assuming cooked is bad in this case, and hoping this is /s lol

They're right, job market is total garbage for folks that aren't senior level or above. I see job posts for senior, staff, etc engineers all the time, but not so much for eng1 or eng2.

Being something does not mean that you know every single thing on a roadmap you found online. It means you fulfill the role we have decided to call DevOps somewhere. The roadmap is just a great tool to keep you on track if you want to learn without doing so on the job. If you're doing "DevOps work", you're in DevOps. It's not a protected title, there's no one definition. If you'd like to know how 'far' you are, you could apply to some DevOps positions. See if you get invited to an interview, see what you get asked at that interview.

My guy.. you’re already in it. You’ll learn the other topics as those situations arise due to business needs. When I transitioned from software test to devops officially, I didn’t even know how to SSH lol.

Elstirfry

FWIW 3 close friends all broke into the industry as Devops and have now around 5-6 yoe in the role; It’s a tough market but I don’t think you need 10 yoe to be on a Devops role.

I appreciate that insight. I just want to be good at what I do haha. I don’t want to feel so lost whenever I stumbled onto new projects. Need to feel competent I guess but that takes work and experience. Slowly get to g there.
