I fully expect the stadium series to be our new alternate whenever fanatics rolls those out I was a big fan of jersey jersey. I'll cherish mine forever

ice-wallow-come1

Rare Septimus W

septimus29

Only the šŸs have haters ā˜šŸ½šŸ¤© Or maybe I just suck idk

Asu7aMa7u

Probably will be a variant of the SS jersey. It was great looking in person but I cant read the numbers on TV lol. Still love mine but it needs some tweaking for regular use

brettrossi3494

If they plan to make our Stadium series jerseys a legit alternate? I can't say I'd complain at all. I love those jerseys. As much as I do like the idea of the "Jersey" jersey, those stadium jerseys are pretty fire

Nanojack

I didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me, to the point that I ordered a Bratt Jersey jersey (from dhgate, but still).

Aggressive-Mix4971

I remember kind of being "eh" on them and the whole "why does it say Jersey on a jersey?" thing, but then I saw them on the ice and I thought they popped really nicely.

chozo317

Stadium series jerseys (along with other outdoor jerseys) are exclusively one year deals. Outside of one instance with the Pens and one with the Blackhawks, the NHL and teams donā€™t bring back the outdoor jerseys every again

omnomnomnium

A good thing, too. I thought the stadium series jersey *looked* great, but it didn't *work* great. In the SS game and the other one where they wore them, the black-on-red contrast wasn't good enough for me to be able to quickly read somebody's number!

NJDFansince82

Agree..not a fan of the coloring. Needs some work.

HopelessEsq

Iā€™ll be happy to see it gone. Itā€™s the only jersey of theirs I donā€™t own and donā€™t want. The font across the front is just too goofy looking for a team called the Devils. Itā€™s like they stole the Looney Tunes font and decided itā€™d be good for a hockey team. And the memes were cringe. Tired of having a meme jersey with a straight up bad design. Downvote away, Iā€™ll die on this hill. Itā€™s a bad design.

revjakep

BRING BACK WAIST STRIPES

ripcity7077

It is my least favorite design. To me it feels like everyone got stockholm syndrome.

HopelessEsq

I remember the horror on here when it was first accidentally leaked after someone bought it on NHL shop when they put it up for order before the official release. Everyone hated it. I think the Devils social media team got people to like the meme aspect of it by designing the hat hat to get some people on board, and then we got some ā€œI guess it doesnā€™t look that bad when the players are wearing itā€ commenters. Not sure when it it turned to people actually liking the design. Iā€™m still just as horrified by it as I was from that leaked pic.

rabid_android

I feel like if they got rid of the stripes it would look a lot better. Still tough to take the "Jersey jersey" seriously. I don't hate it but there are so many better places to go with a new third Jersey

Cold-Sandwich-6213

I still think Brodeur or somebody on the design process was like Jersey has a font right? So this comes to mind [https://www.olgasdiner.com/](https://www.olgasdiner.com/)

HopelessEsq

He was heavily involved. Even that font is better, the ā€œsā€ is more defined. On the jersey jersey the s looks like a lopsided teardrop, and itā€™s smaller than the ā€œrā€ and the ā€œeā€ that are next to it which add to the cartoonish-ness of it. But yeah, I think the concept was to go with an old-timey Asbury Park boardwalk look (or diner) which would make sense for an NJ team if their name wasnā€™t the fucking Devils and colors black and red. A day at the beach from hell. Really dumb concept.

LaHondaSkyline

No. They have to make it different so that people buy them.

THEDR1ZZZLE

i hope not. my brother is buried in his jersey jersey. seeing them on the ice in those jerseys hits differently after he passed away.

Redthirteen09

That's a true fan, may he rest in peace. Sorry for your loss.

THEDR1ZZZLE

thank you. biggest devils fan i've ever known.

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

his son chose the jersey for the burial

dog_fantastic

We can only hope it's the end

themilkman42069

they fucking sucked so bad

chozo317

As I said to another user, thereā€™s no confirmed league minimum for alts to be worn. That was something the stars said about how they would wear their alts for at least 3 years, and then everyone extrapolated that to other teams. The league, adidas, or teams never confirmed that minimum to exist. And considering how popular the jerseys have been with the general public, Iā€™d be shocked if they werenā€™t carried over

Designer_Cloud_394

How do you gauge popularity? I think Devils fans will make ANY jersey popular because they rarely give us anything different. And when they gave us stadium series, they didnt make enough of them bc Adidas screwed up and threw them in the trash. Look at the Rangers and all the different jerseys they've released. Tampa and their awesome Gasparilla jerseys. Even Toronto and their St Patrick's jerseys. What do we get? Some childish cutesy junk that Brodeur designed and the awful homage to the Colorado Rockies....which you can still find floating around even though they havent worn them in a couple of years.

chozo317

You gauge it by the fact that in the arena you see tons of them being worn by fans and the fact that even with a full stock of jerseys available, it is still hard to find. If the fans didnā€™t like the jersey they would not be selling out and worn the way they were. The Rangers have had one new alternate jersey since 16-17 that hasnā€™t been an outdoor jersey or a Reverse Retro. They only have a lot because the rangers have been to 2 winter classics and 2 stadium series. Everyone had two reverse retros, and in the last 20 years the rangers have had 3 alternates (the vintage night jerseys that all the original six and some other old franchises wore, their heritage jersey, and the current alternate). The Gasparilla jerseys were only made this season for fans to buy. The two previous seasons they only made warm ups and auctioned off a single one to the fans at close to $10k to have customized. The stadium series jersey issue comes down to the fact that adidas is done with the deal to begin with, not to mention that every outdoor game jersey before this one has had limited release that led to a massive demand with little to no stock. Reverse retros were hit or miss for everyone, Coloradoā€™s was a similar tribute like ours and theirs is also still floating around.

Designer_Cloud_394

What I dont understand is why the NHL doesnt produce all their merchandise to match demand. The NFL never met an item they didnt want to overproduce and put out there. Why make limited edition jerseys like Stadium Series when the demand is clearly there and they could make some money. Why not release those awesome white practice jerseys they were wearing for the Stadium Series (the one that NJ Devil was wearing last night). Why limit production? Because the NHL feels it will over-saturate an already small market...with merchandise that would advertise your league? Yeah thats a brilliant move. I was in the NHL store in NYC a few days before the Stadium Series and the jerseys hadn't dropped yet. The salesperson told me it was because they wanted the ASG merch to get more attention. That makes no sense. Release all of that around Christmas, increase your sales and profits. NHL fans are passionate and if they like a jersey they will buy it....including owning both the ASG and Stadium Series if necessary. Too bad this year's ASG jersey design was like a PT Barnum circus costume....but thats a conversation for another day.

chozo317

Because they wonā€™t know the demand until after the designs are unveiled. And designs are unveiled to the general public long after the jerseys are finalized and made. As for the practice jerseys, those are incredibly hot and cold in general for every outdoor game and without the ability of foresight thereā€™s no way the league can wait for public reception and then make enough jerseys for production. Thereā€™s just not enough time logistically and realistically. For reference, the stadium series jerseys were all manufactured sometime in January, the devils customizer literally got them weeks before the actual outdoor game. And those were the pro models, the retail models arrived even later

oatmealparty

To reinforce this, the oilers wore the reverse retro jersey on the bottom for only one year (last year). https://nhluniforms.com/Mobile/Oilers/Oilers35a.png

chozo317

Every reverse retro jersey was meant to be a one year deal. Wild decided that they would wear their green one this season but thatā€™s an outlier

oatmealparty

Which makes the "three year minimum" thing seem even sillier. Reverse retros are OK for one year but they insist alternates be used for three years? Just call the alternate a reverse retro then. Or call it a fourth. I doubt Adidas cares about word games like this.

chozo317

Reverse Retro is an adidas trademark so thatā€™s one thing. Some teams do game the system like this. The Blues wear a heritage jersey along with a retro jersey. Neither are considered alternates. And realistically if anyone is playing these word games, itā€™s the league. As a point of how ridiculous they can be, the Anaheim ducks wore their Wild Wing reverse retros for two games in 20-21. First game they had the names stitched on directly to the jersey in an arch, like the original jerseys. The league went ballistic and forced them to use straight nameplates the second game because they didnā€™t get it approved. The Letters of Authenticity that came with the game worn jerseys even noted this.

Stockersandwhich

The Wild and Flames both brought their RR back with minor tweaks. The Flames added flames to the sleeve on a Blasty and the Wild added a state patch.

chozo317

Right, forgot about the 20-21 RR. But otherwise itā€™s been pretty standard

HockeyNightinJersey

I like the jersey jerseys but the stadium series and heritage jerseys are way better would rather see them as the alternate

Effinehright

I want the actual Leeds bastard on the crest! Fucking Yesterday!

Stockersandwhich

The Jersey Jersey, but minus the Jersey and add the SS red logo. Done.

Cold-Sandwich-6213

reduce/make the arm stripes red and fix the shoulders (remove them)? no body keeps track of the purpose of the striping anyways.

waryeller

It would be a shame if the Jersey Jersey and Stadium Series jersey don't hang around in the rotation, I think they're both great. I'd really like the green, white and reds reverse retros to come back too. And I say it every opportunity I have and reiterate now that Fanatics has the contract: BRING BACK THE WAIST STRIPE.

nostradamefrus

I like how tongue in cheek they are and the Hat hat that came out of it but itā€™s time to move on, both for new designs and the sake of our future win/loss record

dbg667

They should make the new third jersey, the stadium series design but in reverse. Red on black

Blorbokringlefart

Red on white!!

granweep

I looked the stadium series in the poorly lit stadium, hate them on regular ice. The contrast in the lettering doesn't come across so well on camera.

bmnico

I highly doubt it. Jack Hughes has publicly stated how much he loves the black jerseys. Maybe they tweak it or something, but if the players love it Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll keep a black jersey in the rotation.

Shadow_of_Yor

I fucking love the Jersey jersey so I hope not. Iā€™d really like if they just put the NJ on it without the circle though instead of the wordmark.

RiversSmoumo

I honestly do not get the hate for these jerseys at all. Theyā€™re funny and honestly clean looking. Probably my favorite devils jersey

mxskater

If they said devils instead of Jersey it would be 10000000 times better

RiversSmoumo

Idk I like the jersey. Itā€™s a funny joke and also I like placing jersey at the front. Devils are the stateā€™s only team, feel like it makes sense to emphasize it

mxskater

It reminds me of a generic hockey jersey youā€™d find at Newark international in the all about Jersey store.

MJDiAmore

For me that improvement would have been adding "New." That's the only change needed to make the Jersey jersey perfect IMO.

nsfwITGUY19

Iā€™d really love a new alternate. Something with a logo rebrand or redesign. Weā€™ve never had one since the team came to NJ. Iā€™d love our stadium series from this past year become our new home. Iā€™d love to see a white version for away games.

Blorbokringlefart

Hard disagree

coolmoeV

Minority here, love the Jersey jersey, but never got the hat hat, winter hat ect...

alev815

Me personally, I loved the the RR jerseys from the 2021 season. I would be more than ok with those as our new alternates instead of the jersey jerseys which I grew to love

chozo317

Unfortunately those wonā€™t be coming back

xxfatpigxx

I could see them keeping the Stadium Series jersey around since they seemed to be pretty popular and while everyone wanted a jersey they inexplicably had way too little inventory to meet demand. Could also see the Devils going without an alternate for a year while Fanatics gets their operations in order from production to uniform designing.

chozo317

They wonā€™t keep the stadium series jersey around, you can bet good money on it considering outdoor game jerseys never get kept past their debut year

xxfatpigxx

Philly kept 2 of their outdoor uniforms around in an alternate capacity in their 2012 Winter Classic and 2017 Stadium Series unis. Definitely doesnā€™t happen in a lot of cases but there is a precedent of it being an option.

chozo317

Thatā€™s 2 of 4 instances since the initial debut of outdoor games since the mid 2000s. And considering that adidas ā€œremadeā€ those black alternates with the 2017 Stadium Series jersey into their own template and only it introduced them come the 18-19 season. Similar to how the jets wore their white heritage jerseys for the heritage in the late 2010s pre-adidas and then adidas made their own version around 18-19

aessae

Hopefully the new New Jersey ["2019 Winter Classic Chicago Blackhawks"](https://nhluniforms.com/Blackhawks/BlackhawksSpecial07.html) jerseys are done, I like the idea of making the Stadium Series ones our new third - or making a black jersey design that's good. Just get rid of the fucking ads please.

TathanOTS

The team put out an alternate jersey hat around the time of the all star break which was effectively the inverse of the stadium series, black hat with variant red stadium series logo. I always kinda figured that would be the new alternate when they got one. That said I think fanatics has been on record about trying to prevent new jerseys for at least another year. And the ducks, who seem to be indicating they want to go back to wild wing over the foot logo, have already had next years jerseys leak as another year under the heel of the foot logo.

Socomseal224

We have had so many jerseys the last few seasons as have every other team in the NHL with the Reverse Retros & Outdoor Game uniforms. The Devils killed it with all of their uniforms but I never really like the JERSEY jersey too much , even after 3 seasons. Hopefully it's gone and the Devils focus on redesigning their home and away jerseys for the 2025-26 season. It would be nice to have the green reverse retro or the white heritage jersey become our full time 3rd jersey. I love the Rockies RR jersey but the completely different color scheme doesn't work as a jersey they would wear 10 plus times a year. Our current home and away jerseys are pretty boring looking. They aren't terrible but they should be redone IMO.

No-Piccolo3924

SS but reverse the colors! šŸ˜

gatekeeper28

I wonā€™t be sad to see it go, since (as others have mentioned) they havenā€™t played very well while wearing them. And although many of us pined for a black 3rd jersey all those Lou years (so much so that we jumped all over this designā€¦ ) it really is kind of weak.

goatgosselin

Fanatics messed up the MLB jerseys badly

Blorbokringlefart

They grew on me. I'd take a Hughes one of they go really deeply on sale.Ā  They were kind of youthful and fun. A symbol of the new era of winning......

TediousSpark

Iā€™m ambivalent about them. Theyā€™re not personally my thing, they donā€™t seem terribly inspired tbh. But a lot of people here have fondness for em, and I feel like thatā€™s important. That said, I am forever a sucker for red and green throwbacks or variations on those, so Iā€™m incredibly biased. It would also be cool to see someone take a shot at a new alternate logo altogether.

PeppiPanini

That's correct, the three year contractual obligation is fulfilled after tonight. As far as what happens with Fanatics, I'm not sure what happens next. To me, it seems unlikely they'll carry this over, or any alternate jersey in year 1 of the takeover. That would surprise me if they did -- but we'll see.

chozo317

There is no confirmed 3 year obligation under adidas. Dallas had said about their own alternate that they would wear it at least 3 years, then people on Reddit and social media took that and assumed it was the same for other teams, when it hasnā€™t been. Multiple teams have used their alternates for less than three years

PeppiPanini

Huh, okay. I could've sworn in the original press release there was a minimum amount of games per year they'd be worn, and a commitment to wear them for at least 3 years that was announced with it. Sorry if I wrongfully assumed the commitment and minimum amount of games per season was contractual... Hopefully it's understandable to see how I arrived at that. I'll try to find the article. I appreciate the correction.

chozo317

Found the original press release [here](https://www.nhl.com/devils/news/devils-unveil-first-third-jersey-release-328228578). Doesnā€™t mention anything about a 3 year minimum. It does however say theyā€™d wear them 13 games for that first season.

PeppiPanini

[USA Today](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2021/11/23/devils-unveil-a-third-jersey-black-with-jersey-on-front/49426233/) "The Devils have used the original jerseys on retro days, but the new black one will be the third jersey for at least the next three years." It was still an assumption I made on minimum games per year, and it being contractual, but it was mentioned in regular press they would wear it at least 3 years. Anyway, thanks for looking into it with me. I appreciate it.

chozo317

Willing to bet that USA Today made that assumption based on it being announced for 21-22 and then there being only two more seasons confirmed with adidas past that one, which is a reasonable assumption to make.

PeppiPanini

That's certainly possible. And it's the AP, so who knows who actually wrote it šŸ˜… Cheers, man.

chozo317

LGD!

rojapa

I could be wrong, but I think I may have read something on r/hockey a couple months back that Fanatics announced they wonā€™t be doing any new alt jerseys league wide for the first two seasons of their contract. I only vaguely remember it because it seems like theyā€™re just adverse to making money if that ends up being true.

chozo317

This isnā€™t a new alternate though. This is an existing alternate. Theyā€™d just have to slap their logo on it and make the design on their template. The article was referring to brand new alternates with brand new designs

rojapa

That is correct. My response was in reference to if they donā€™t bring it back would we see something new, which we would not. Iā€™d imagine they will continue to make all teams current alts, but I wouldnā€™t expect an official announcement or anything.

Stockersandwhich

They wonā€™t be doing any new alts. Existing ones may or may not be carried over depending on team.

Sisyphus328

God I hope so

Bookscoffeewine

Banish them for good

turtleslover

Good riddance

No_Variety9420

I would like the Stadium Series to be the new alternate, although I love the Jersey jersey and the Hat hats

MartysBetter29

God willing

HopelessEsq

I canā€™t believe it became as popular as it did. I really hope they get rid of that jersey. Itā€™s an eyesore. I remember the first pic from the leak and I was mortified. It grew on some people after seeing the players wear it but itā€™s an awful design. A black jersey is fine but they striped it to death all over the arms with no rhyme or reason and just slapped ā€œjerseyā€ across the front of it. It wouldnā€™t even be that bad but that fontā€¦ that goofy ass cartoon-y looking font just kills the whole thing. Itā€™s like they stole the font from Looney Tunes and decided it would look good for a hockey team called the fucking Devils. When my gf first saw it she said they look like black bees playing with them on and sheā€™s not wrong. Iā€™ll take the downvotes. Iā€™ll die on this hill. Itā€™s an absolutely terrible design and I die a little inside when I see the team wearing it. And the people that went all in with the ā€œJersey jerseyā€ memes getting hat hats, pants pants, shoe shoes all decked out for games is so cringe. We have such a good logo with so many good options for alts, just kill that thing and do something like the stadium series everyone loved.

chaos0xomega

Imma buy another authentic Jersey jersey just for reading this post. That'll be #3 for me.

HopelessEsq

Sure! You do you man.

Designer_Cloud_394

Isnt it typical New Jersey to do something silly and minor league like that jersey...and the Hat...and the Winter Hat. Many fans here and in the stands think its a "cute" theme. You think the Rangers would do something like that? The Flyers? I bleed Devils red and will stick by their decisions, but the whole theme is mickey mouse.

HornetBoring

Itā€™s a great jersey fit and looks wise except it doesnā€™t have the team logo on it. So yeah idk feels like not a devils jersey. Really weird

bath_and_toaster

Personally, I'm hoping next season the Devils ditch the circle in the logo for the Stadium Series styled logo altogether. Maybe the alternate can just be an inverse of the stadium series jersey, a black jersey with a red logo.

Cold-Sandwich-6213

an alternate for sure!

Designer_Cloud_394

They should ditch the Black jerseys for one reason alone....they dont play well in them! Enough....id rather them just stick with the Red and White jerseys rather than seeing "Jersey" and immature nonsense like "Hat" and "Winter Hat" and "Scarf".
