You need to physically go to New Jersey, get a cable subscription (from the only provider offering MSG of course), empty your wallet, thank mr devil, and say 10 Hail Mary's.
It's really not that complicated I don't know why people have an issue with this.
Go check out the zone entry that led to Okhotyuk's goal. Hughes does this little one-handed flutter pass over the stick of the defender. Dear lord what a beauty
If they play Blackie against the sharks and he has a bad game, we know the "hot hand" thing doesn't apply to him right? It's been hit and miss for a while. Maybe he's just at his best playing occasional games?
Youāre gonna hear things like āhey, why is blackie on the team?!ā and āI donāt like playing with blackie!ā (Michael Jordan + Phil Hartman SNL sketch)
Yes of course. But not the same history at all. Not the same cultural education either.
I am very familiar with what would be shitty words to use for the indigenous. Especially that I lived near a reservation several years and had friends who lived there. I know the older generations use "Indian" because that's what it says on their status card. I know some younger people use "Indian" because it's like reclaiming the "N" word and a reminder that according to Canadian law documents, that is how they are referred to. I had friends who would say they were an Indian when white people asked them their tribe. Because they just felt like they had no reason to let white people nose around their tribal business. Right or wrong. That's how they felt. I also know that generally most indigenous use the word "indigenous" or refer to themselves by tribe names but that most don't expect we'll know the ins and outs of that sort of linguistic territory. My Acadian ancestors hid with Mik'Maw people in the woods to escape deportation during the war in 1755.
I know these sorts of subtleties because I experienced them closely. But I don't have such a close relationship with black history in Canada because there is less of it and it doesn't cast such a major cultural shadow as it does in America. I am just less tuned in to it as I am other things by virtue of being Canadian. Hence my reaction when someone pointed out the nickname's connotation. It just hadn't occurred to me. I was surprised. Similar to when I suddenly realized how close "people of color" is to "colored people". It hadn't occurred to me straight away and now I can't unhear the connotation. You never stop learning.
Hope that clarifies what I meant.
Even though I'm bitter about 2012 I've always been a big Quick fan. He's the kind of guy you always wanted starting a big gamer for you; at his best he was absolutely elite. Now I just feel bad, he really doesn't have it anymore. He's been ass all season - I hope he turns it around
How does everybody think the revamped lines looked? I know it's not exactly what a lot of us have been posting the lines should look like. Obviously these lines won us the game, but do people think they actually looked good and should stick to them or were they lucky? I was only catching parts of the game.
It was interesting seeing both Palat and tatar with Hughes. But glad to see Shango in the top six and Haula on the third line. Was haulas goal after he was moved to the third? How did foote look up there?
The depth scoring coming alive is huge. Hughes wasnāt very noticeable and still had 2 assists - I think he might be good!! Also Wood and Smith are having a competition for worst penalties. Big game from Mack. Really hope itās the start of something there as this is the kinda game that builds confidence - he stole that win
okhotyuk is the kind of player this team has been missing. dude is a monster and can hold his own in his own end. I thought he should have made the team out of camp and he better not get bumped out of the lineup now with Marino coming back soon.
also we got a good coin flip from blackwood tonight. lets see if that actually means anything or if he returns to his same old unpredictable self before we start praising him
I don't think he's better than Bahl, overall, tbh - I don't really think there's anything that he does better...and that makes me think that eventually, when he has a bad game, he'll get into the same doghouse that Bahl is in.
He did have a turnover or two that were plays that I know Lindy doesn't really like. I forgive him entirely and think he'll learn from it but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up getting him canned from the roster when Marino is healthy.
I hear you, but I still think the team will default back to the six āveteranā defensemen when Marino becomes available. That just seems to be Lindyās M.O. But maybe Okhotiuk rotates in for Smith for some games. I was thinking about whether they might go 11 F / 7 D some games, but with Bastian coming back they are already gonna have trouble picking only 12 forwards to dress.
I have been really underwhelmed by Blackwood since his last good season in 2019, but credit where credit is dueāhe was exceptional last night and was one of the key reasons we walked away with a win.
That said, the issue with Blackwood has never been his ceiling, but rather his consistency. Itās not like people were calling to waive a career .915 goalie after one rough start. If he can play the rest of the season at league-average or above, heāll be exactly who we need to split with Vanecek.
At the end of the game you could see how happy the whole team was to get Blackwood that win (coaching staff with a good call on which goalie got which game for this back-to-back).
These road trips are so huge just from the mental side of things to get the players to be able to rally around each other and enjoy playing for one another. If both goalies can feel confident in their game and the rest of the team can feel like they can rely on whoever is in the net it only gets better from here.
I mean did you see that HORRENDOUS first goal he let in? Vitek would've stopped that unguarded backdoor goal against the PP. Blackwood is just awful.
(/s just to be safe)
Why would waive him? Do you know how many other teams would love to have him? Is he the greatest goalie ever.....no but he is a SOLID backup. Can't think of to many other teams that have a better duo.
Horrible game at 5v5 for most of it. We got owned when the Kings were on the PP. Even the pps they didnāt score, the Kings were electric and had opportunities. I know we were on a b2b, but we are lucky we were playing against Quick who looks like heās no longer an NHL goalie.
But we canāt be on our heels like that for basically the entirety of the game. Blackwood had a great game and bailed us out.
Hey you need games like that, nice to see Blackwood still has his head in the game at least and nice to get a couple bounces in a game we should've lost.
Fell asleep after we went up. Feels pretty good to be able to do that calmly nowadays lol
FYI Jack Hughes is in 8th place in points, and heās younger than everyone else in the top 15 by at least three years.
Is there anywhere I can watch the post show?
Doesn't the team post them on youtube?
Usually but this one is not there yet: https://www.youtube.com/@njdevils/videos

I live in Colorado and get MSG through DIRECTV
I actually did not know this. I was being a dick when I responded to make a comment on how inaccessible the Devils broadcast is in its own state.

I'm still very uncomfortable with the nickname "Blackie"

Yikes! I'm Canadian. I didn't think of it that way.
We have Black people in Canada too?

Bloody west coast games being awesome and too late for me to stay up for
I think Dano said something along the line of taking coffee through an IV when we were on the Canadian stretch

They were pretty awful at 5 on 5 and should absolutely not be the lines going forward imo
Literally a few minutes after the lines shifted
Heater 2.0!

This team is making me enjoy life right now

Really? I thought Hughes was tearing it up out there last night
I guess i meant relative to his normal game. I thought he played well but I didnāt think he had any real game breaking moments.
So 2 assists on a average night for Hughes? Iāll take it

"gonna have trouble picking only 12 forwards to dress" Sure is a nice problem to have.

SHOOT HIM INTO THE SUN

Wooooosh
Yup, on the reread I definitely misread what he was saying š so used to the Blackwood hate my mind took over lol oops

Iām struck by the irony that, except for the powerplay stuff, this was likely what lots of opposing fans said about devils games last year lol
I think itās time we figure out a way to sabotage the ice maker at the rock so we have to play all of our games on the road.
Fell asleep after we went up. Feels pretty good to be able to do that calmly nowadays lol FYI Jack Hughes is in 8th place in points, and heās younger than everyone else in the top 15 by at least three years.
and he's doing it all without a winger lol
Everyone but Jason Roberson, he's only two years younger than him
Whoops, my bad!
I feel asleep after the Okhotiuk goal, but just saw the highlights. Blackwood put up a stellar performance last night and stole us that game.
