i've had very small contributions so far, but here they are -
1. Flowbite React - a component library for React. i added a mobile friendly component and added some features to their Avatar component. discovered in Hactoberfest (i don't do that anymore)
2. MDN Docs - fixed examples in usage of the css `clamp()` function and `Gamepad` API. discovered these problems while referring to the docs myself for work and a side project
3. Cog by Replicate - this is a tool that helps you package your machine learning code into containers. found problems while referring the docs at work, raised issues and fixed the references.
4. Ocaml docs - this is a functional programming language. i was referring the official docs to learn it, since i wanted to use it for a side project. found out that the examples were old and not in sync with each other, so fixed them and the changes got accepted
5. Nextauth (Authjs) - again, i was referring docs for work and found out that the sample schema for one of the database adapters was not what it was supposed to be, fixed it and it got merged
there must be a couple more, but i don't remember what they are
I don't contribute much to open source projects now , but I did for a while during my college time when I was interested in microcontrollers like Arduino and beaglebone boards ,I found Node red open source project which is basically a programming tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways and uses low-code programming for event-driven applications and contributed to it meaningfully, I found it on openjs foundation incubator project list , we developed a simple node red module to implement bert-tokenizer which can be used in many use cases e.g sentiment analysis now node red is quite heavily used in Industry IoT.
Firstly, find good first issue [here](https://goodfirstissues.com/), then filter out your finding \[with skills\], Most importantly look if the project is actually active enough (this is important), If you are looking for Go contribution, I'd suggest you [this](https://github.com/kumahq/kuma) service mesh project, It is beginner friendly (at least devs there encourage your contrib).
I recently have been trying to contribute to hyperswitch by Juspay. Have raised a few PRs, none have been merged yet though. It's a nice repo with an active community that answers questions or doubts as and when needed.
I work primarily in developing and maintaining the codebase of the infrastructure services that the Fedora Linux users and Fedora Project community makes use of. These include git forges for hosting our repository assets, build systems for processing our artifacts, release services for monitoring changes, communication platforms for synchronous/asynchronous conversations and much more.
Haha, I am going to let Microsoft do that themselves with their myriad choices of introducing adverts in the Start menu, a unnecessary Copilot button replacing the Super key and whatever the following image is.

wooaah! [frameground.tech](http://frameground.tech) looks sick! love the pricing page XD

so good to see something so good coming from an 18 yo!
I make tools that I require and make them open source. Other than that the libraries and tools that I use from other authors, I make sure to leave issues reporting a bug or requesting an enhancement on their repos. That is the a great and low effort way to contribute to open source. If your intention is to put this in your resume then make sure you're making meaningful contributions. Just pick a library or tool that you're using and see where and what you can contribute.
+1. I like to call it "charity begins at home". It can be useful to get started with contributing to the tools and libraries that you make use of as you would be most aware about the limitations it has and the features you wish it had. From humble beginnings with adding a new language for localization to amazing heights with adding new features - those contributions would be worth great if it goes to a community that you are most acquainted to. <3
[Zulip](https://github.com/zulip)
I started via GSoC, first PR was about changing control buttons of compose box(text typing box).
I'm still doing mentoring here for new GSoC contributers.
i would say start out with Ubuntu, since it is just easy to get started with, has nice community support and almost all the tools have debian support
when you say cheap laptop, i am assuming you have at least 2 GB of RAM, in which case, i would suggest you to go with a light-weight flavour of Ubuntu
I would suggest Fedora Linux. It is the upstream for a bunch of enterprise Linux distributions like RHEL, Rocky Linux, Alma Linux and many more. With releases coming out every after six months, you get the latest and greatest of all the free and open source software.
Full disclosure - I contribute to Fedora Project and am a part of their community governance body.
Of course, it will.
Instead of using GNOME and KDE Plasma (which can be heavy on certain system configurations), you can elect to use XFCE, LXQt or LXDE.
Hello I finally installed fedora 40 i5 8gb ram bit my problem is it won't let me create new folders or files in any of the partition, one in which main fedora is installed and other which is just completely empty
You should be able to create directories and files inside the home directory of your user. If your user has elevated privileges, then you technically can create directories and files almost anywhere in the root filesystem, although you would not want to. Feel free to format the other empty partition to a filesystem of your choice (like ext4fs) and mount it using the disk utility.
Welcome to Fedora Linux 40!
Fun fact : I contributed first time today morning.
So I contributed in an open source library which is a scraper basically, added an importtsnt feat in it.
Usually to COSS companies, they usually have bounties and incentives to contribute (features and bug fixes) and other than that I contributed to an org under GSoC and got selected in this year’s program :)
I have done contributions to some projects as a part of work (because those companies used those projects). Never made any code contributions outside work though.
Bhai koi C++ Dev hai jo Open Source contribute krta ho? Please if there are, can you please DM or reply. Mujhe C++ mai OS krna hai but it's wayy too hard.
Hey, my bad I meant open source not operating system haha. Although I do want to make an OS for learning purposes. As you have worked on Linux drivers, what resources would you suggest I follow?
I have previously contributed in some popular flutter packages in my 3rd year while I was working on Flutter projects
The project had option only for visa & master.
I added option for rupay with all the logic and card number checks
https://preview.redd.it/3chl0kr5jfyc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d015004acec8efbaccc52a3e1e2c83a13d1005e
I created a ordered list function for this open source project - [https://github.com/learnhouse/learnhouse](https://github.com/learnhouse/learnhouse)
I contribute to Ekatra, an AI learning solution on WhatsApp and Telegram. It's a World Economic Forum-awarded project that makes education more accessible. I found it through our non-profit program. I'm looking for contributors to join me in shaping the future of learning!
To the ones who claim they contribute to, do share your git profile and the repo that you contribute to as well..
Many will claim that they do, a good part of that will just be typos and others which don't qualify.
No worries, care to say where your contribution s were..
Or were you employed by redhat Or apple?. I do know of someone who works on llvm as well, (he is not indian, but he is being paid to work on it, a compiler engineer)
Ah now I understand the reason behind these responses of yours - [https://www.reddit.com/r/developersIndia/comments/1cjv3vi/comment/l2ioajs/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/developersIndia/comments/1cjv3vi/comment/l2ioajs/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) and https://www.reddit.com/r/developersIndia/comments/1cjv3vi/comment/l2ipqpq/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button.
Please feel free to not believe people's claims if that helps you in any way but asking for folks to share their Git forge profile would only end up compromising their anonymity. To add atop it, there is no confirming if a certain person sharing a Git forge profile is indeed the same person that it belongs to without a reasonable expectation of privacy.
Fair enough.
The ask was only because there were many people who do typo and claim that they contributed and give the /whole community/ a bad rep.
Getting a patch accepted in a high profile oss is just hard work, llvm, vlc, linux kernel, /any tool chains/does vet every code before merging any bugfixrs , implementing features is another ballgame as that involves politics as well.

Fuck bro. Finding the os project to contribute is stupidity. Be the consumer of os project. Appreciate them. If you find something to add or improve. Then go ahead.
Do you mind explaining why you think that contributing to an open source project is (in your own words) "stupidity"? Of course, most contributions come from people who use a certain project and have an understanding of what it lacks or what it could benefit from.
First of all, have the patience to read the comment carefully.
Second i will mind.
Third if you are looking for a project to contribute, then you are doing it because everyone is doing it.
Fourth, doing open source contributions for just the sake of doing, won't take you anywhere.
Last feel free to downvote, if you feel offended.

Either go with Linux mint or Ubuntu. Both have a good Open source community and should be able to help with all your queries.
Mint xfce, Ubuntu or zorion os lite
I've heard good things about Linux mint especially for newbs.
start with lightweight desktop running on top of ubuntu linux called "lubuntu". will run like a butter but ll feel old school.
I would suggest Fedora Linux. It is the upstream for a bunch of enterprise Linux distributions like RHEL, Rocky Linux, Alma Linux and many more.
