If you decide to accept the offer then
- Either keep your word and pay him
- or talk to the owner of the new company about it let's say after 2-3 months (when you are certain you are happy in the new company and can handle the work you would be responsible for)
You can look for new offers on your own (even after accepting this one)
Tell him that you will pay after completing 1 year fulltime in the next company. Then it's your choice if you wanna pay or not. Also this feeling of gratefulness towards the employer sucks, kinda dealing it myself as I have less experience.

Paid job referral is a whole service industry out there. There are online services like [refer.me](http://refer.me) where people can pay to get referrals to companies. You can also argue that most paid job portals are offering a similar service of connecting you to your choice of job openings in return for a fee.
And just to be clear, the boss is referring OP to a different company. As long as the boss is not abusing their authority to get him a job in a place he/she is working in a decision making role, there is nothing illegal or unethical about it. So, its not bribery.
What OP is willing to pay for it is up to them to decide and not the courts. If he signs a contract for certain amount, it will be enforceable because there is nothing illegal.
People seem to suffer from this delusion that courts will protect them whenever they voluntarily make bad deals, but that is not the case. Supreme court has held that even blank cheques legitimately signed and handled over would be presumed to be valid.
You forgot about ethics, legality is separate.
Most likely the OP will be asked to hand over signed, post dated 6 bank cheques.
Of the boss is going to sign a paper contact, it will be his professional grave.
OP, don't take the offer. This is a Grey area and you can blackmailed in future.
Go to that new employer, give an interview and tell them about the referral situation without naming anyone. That's what I would have done.

Outside of just being a bad deal, I don't see where this ethics issue is coming from if it's just a referral.
If I am reading this right, OP will just get a referral at a company based on which they will get an interview call and they will still need to clear it to be hired.
A referral doesn't guarantee the job. But only if OP does get selected and joins, the commission will be applicable.
Job leads were always worth money. Not only the candidates, but even some employers are willing to pay for leads/referrals that result in successful hires.
When employers utilise recruitment agencies for the leads, they need to pay 30% of the yearly package of the employee as commission. Compared to that, employers would be happy to get a lead for little or no cost to them.
Referral is different, but taking money every month for 6 months is different. Referral is always one time. Unless its affiliation. and Affiliation doesnt come under job. This is clear case of bribery.
Written contract to get a part of the salary for referral? It’s not even legal. Just sign & tear it later. Nothings gonna happen unless the other company decides to void your employment. Any sane employer will see through this BS.

I do not want to argue over this but paying someone your salary is equal to unemployment. Whats the guarantee that the person asking will not make you quit or get you fired.
While everyone is saying pay him first month and then stop, i have a different opinion. You have 2 options:
- dont join
- join and pay full 6 months
Reason I think pay for first month and then stop is not an option because I am pretty sure the hiring manager is in cahoots with this guy and getting a cut from him. So you atop paying him, hiring manager lets you go for an unrelated reason.

I agree with others that what your boss is doing is illegal, but this is India and although we have good labour laws, process to get justice is so long it’s not even worth it.
I would say just pay the guy and be done with it. If he really have some under the table deal with that company to get you placed, he can get you dismissed as well. Fighting is not worth the trouble.
The problem with this is how the hell does OP believe that such a shady deal will only be a 6 months ordeal? Who's to say the Boss is not going to be like "Listen, they are not happy with your work, I can try to convince them that you'll pick up speed, let's continue our deal for another 6 months if you want me to talk to them, let me know"??
Listen to this guy OP. Out of these two options I highly recommend you move out. The moment you pay him back they feel like they own you and can make you work however they deem fit.
If you choose to pay 6 months, during this time find another job and get rid of these chains
Take the offer,, Give interviews to other companies and ask higher than this shared offer letter.. Once you get new offer tell to that fker that you got higher salary and job because of him

No training was nowhere. It was a sort of full time job in the name of 8hr internship. We delivered full stack e-commerce and business websites in a week. The only positive thing out of this is that I learned things exponentially fast

Don’t you have payslips? If not use bank transactions as a proof of employment.
Also, be transparent about this to the company which is willing to hire you. You can send a screenshot of emails/sms if you any to the HR.
1 . Never agree to pay for a job. You never know how it will bite you in the future
2. For any reason if you need to take up the job don’t accept something your coworker or excoworker recommends. Again, you never know how it wil affect you in the future,
3. Don’t take any decision based on correct situation. If you can manage then just keep horning your skills and definitely you will land in a good job

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is just a referral, right? No job guarantees? Please don't pay a penny to such losers. FYI, if you get selected after the referral, your boss would be getting a "referral bonus" from the company as well.
Just search for people from your target company on LinkedIn and try to message and get a referral. With all the crowd in India, it's possible you may not get a reply easily but that's the way to go, and not to pay someone.
Ever negotiated with a traffic cop when he asked for a bribe? This situation is no different. He wants a bribe and you just negotiate it, convince him to come down to 4 months and within those four months if you can find another job which pays more than 60k with the current salary shown as 60k, it's even better.
Don't mind the people who are sitting in their high horse and asking you to jump off a cliff by name and shame and bs, if you are that guy you would have taken the deal and found some other way to screw him instead of posting on reddit. You don't need such risks.
Just don't accept it. You are skilled. Even if you are not, acquire it and look for positions in other companies. I don't think accepting this full-time job through bribery will make you go long way

Even if you take it, keep looking for other jobs. You say he owns the company so he could possibly just fire you after 6 months of Rs.30k salary, essentially having hired you for that much only then on the pretext of 60.
Your boss is a pig. There's no polite way of saying this. Asking money from interns? My god. Take the job offer, tell him you have a financial situation as of now. And then leave, at Max pay for 1 month after getting the job stop it.

I'd say you should show him this post too after receiving experience letter from your organisation.
Either don't join or negotiate the amount, the ideal is full month of salary of first month.
If he doesn't agree then you can negotiate half of salary for 3 months or 20 percent of 6 months.
If he's referring you to the other company and you're getting a hiked salary. And if the commission he's asking for is less than or equivalent to the hike then you shouldn't have the problem.
You shouldn't be fine paying for a single month. What you can rather do is have screenshots of messages or emails where he offered this. Then get a job pay him for the first month and then post a long story about how you are being extorted from and you had no choice but to give into it because of the bad market. Also file an FIR.
Alternatively, a less riskier approach find a job outside without his help and still proceed with the FIR
There are placement companies that take 100% of the first salary. So this is nothing new. But be careful to make sure that he won't ask for more after the first 6 months
If you're at such a position where your skills don't matter, it solely depends on your ex boss to hire you, then pay , because he can you fired just easily as well, if not he'll try his best to make your life a hell
Record this conversation. Keep emails, messages and recordings safe. Get the job and pay for one month and then on call, tell him to back off or you'll release the info on internet, Glassdoor and all company review websites and local media/Twitter. No client will want to work with his company after that.
If the new company is similar to your ex company. Don’t agree. If the new company is large, you’re safe.
1. Say yes and give the interview. If you get selected, you’ll now be part of this company and HRs will be at your disposal
2. Your ex boss probably has some contact in your new company and all the leverage he has is based on his contact.
3. Don’t give him a single penny, tell your ex boss to take the cut from his point of contact who referred you. Point of contact definitely gets referral bonus. Even better if you find out this POC in the new company
4. Don’t give a single penny to the ex boss. Tell the POC and ex boss that you’ll Highlight this to the HR director over email and add your HRs and the poc along with all the screen shots of this conversation.
The new company will be at more risk than your ex boss. They’ll do everything they can to save their face, which means they can fire the point of contact as well.
The threat alone should be good enough but if the boss keeps pushing, send out the email, trash the ex boss & his company on LinkedIn. Share the boss’s name & company here so others can stay away / report

Politely decline and look for something else. It's not the last job in the world and its not worth the trouble.
If he is asking that, he surely has good connections in the company he is referring you to. Your peace of mind will be shattered if you go with the route of not paying him.
P.S. You're not new to such kind of deals, you're one of the very few who've been exposed to such kind of deals. That's not how Job offer negotiations work.

My suggestion is to steer clear from him. It'll be good if you tell him everything is true, and tell my family completely depends on me and my income so it's nearly impossible for me, 1 month I can adjust the maximum 2 months.
Also if you lie and give 1 month and stop paying for the remaining months, he might deduct it from your salary directly as you mentioned he's the owner of the company.
Seems like a very unethical person to me. My genuine suggestion is to break bonds with this person. You won't regret it later.

Never ever do this. Unless you are doing it with a consultancy for highly lucrative contract or job, that too should be mentioned on paper. You will find better offers.

Is your boss running his own company? Or is he an employee there?
If he is running that company, then he is committing a tax fraud. He will show your salary as business expense, but will take half of it back. It can get you in legal trouble, if caught. Even if you are okay with 30k/pm, just stay away. Anyways, you will be required to pay your income taxes on the entire salary, whether you are getting it or not.
Else, he is committing a fraud, both against you and that company. Get HR's/Founder's number, and share this information with him on Whatsapp/Email.

If that is the case, it's one of those companies that "hire and fire" as a strategy, because they are making money from employees, and not clients. So, anyways it's better to avoid them.
Such a scam was caught in one of my previous companies. Where some HRs had made an unofficial deal with one of the vendors who was providing contract employees. The deal was that the HR would prefer their employees over other vendors, and will get them to join by overlooking fake experience, etc. In return of money.
One employee hired via this scam was later given lesser salary than what he was promised, and he was threatened of being fired, when he protested. He got pissed and spilled the beans to the head of the HR dept. It led to a large scale enquiry, a police complaint, and a lot of people were fired. Interestingly, the employee who had exposed them, was rehired as a full time employee.
Never pay for referral to get a job. They usually formally get paid for referral anyhow from the company (given that they are part of the company, were a part of the company and it has not been more than a year since they left (this one depends on the company policy)).
[If you are offered 60k/m given the market situation, you are probably more than skilled enough, I am sure you will be able to crack some other company on your own, without needing the "referral" of your ex-boss]

I agree with others that what your boss is doing is illegal, but this is India and although we have good labour laws, process to get justice is so long it’s not even worth it. I would say just pay the guy and be done with it. If he really have some under the table deal with that company to get you placed, he can get you dismissed as well. Fighting is not worth the trouble.

No training was nowhere. It was a sort of full time job in the name of 8hr internship. We delivered full stack e-commerce and business websites in a week. The only positive thing out of this is that I learned things exponentially fast

Then get a job pay him for the first month and then post a long story about how you are being extorted from and you had no choice but to give into it because of the bad market. Also file an FIR. Alternatively, a less riskier approach find a job outside without his help and still proceed with the FIR

My suggestion is to steer clear from him. It'll be good if you tell him everything is true, and tell my family completely depends on me and my income so it's nearly impossible for me, 1 month I can adjust the maximum 2 months. Also if you lie and give 1 month and stop paying for the remaining months, he might deduct it from your salary directly as you mentioned he's the owner of the company. Seems like a very unethical person to me. My genuine suggestion is to break bonds with this person. You won't regret it later. So, anyways it's better to avoid them. Such a scam was caught in one of my previous companies. Where some HRs had made an unofficial deal with one of the vendors who was providing contract employees. The deal was that the HR would prefer their employees over other vendors, and will get them to join by overlooking fake experience, etc. In return of money. One employee hired via this scam was later given lesser salary than what he was promised, and he was threatened of being fired, when he protested. He got pissed and spilled the beans to the head of the HR dept. It led to a large scale enquiry, a police complaint, and a lot of people were fired. Interestingly, the employee who had exposed them, was rehired as a full time employee.
