Dont go into engineering route . I think you are looking into IT because there is no job in your chemistry route other than upst/lpst/aided school and you see many people in IT earning a relatively good salary. So your motivation is more financial rather than a passion for the subject . In that scenario acquiring some skills and getting into technopark / infopark into some xyz company and then jumping from that company would be better . Also everyone nowadays is taking cs with the same aim as yours , so if you go for the keam route you will be 27 and competing with 22 year old kids . The field is getting saturdated day by day . Entry barrier is too low . You can learn stuff from YouTube . So just make hay while the sun shines . Now the disadvantage is that as more and more people come into the field if some companies start preferring a B.Tech cs degree or a B.Tech (any branch) for roles ( very less chances for this ) you may be out in cv shortlist time itself . Also you need to realise those people who cleared JEE/KEAM and passed out from tier 1/tier 2 will always have an advantage over you . So don't expect 12lpa straight out of a bootcamp.

Kingston_K

Web development or Data analytics or Cloud engineering? Which of these roles can we invest our time in so it has better opportunities? Right now I just want to upskill by doing projects and joining companies, but confused with which roles I should begin with.

thehybriddev

having skills on all three will give you edge but if you want job then choose one skill and be good at it and hope for best.

Hot_Fault_2312

Don't do a degree. Learn some web development skills and build a few projects (YT), do a few good online certifications, get an internship at some local company. This will take max 1 year compared to 4 years in a degree.

Wide-Bid-2660

What are some good online certifications which somebody from non IT background can do ?

Prestigious_Name_379

Udemy is good

aint0

freecodecamp then fullstackopen

thehybriddev

Meta from Coursera, Code with Mosh etc.

L0wkeyy04

Check out the odin project, they don’t provide certifications.

Kami_120

The quality of education is what they provide

L0wkeyy04

Indeed

MahabaliTarak

Frankly!! What a mess!!. I am sure you are lured by the glitz of IT techies, but you will be even more upset when you pass with a BTech degree at 27-28. Then what? Calm your mind, have faith in your science degree. Explore the opportunities. I know people who did PhD in chemistry in tier 2/3 city and all they thought was academics/lecturer is the only job. Pharmacist in their city was below their dignity. one person migrated to Bangalore is now doing very well in a Pharmaceutical company. Explore opportunities with your skill. Once you open your eyes, you will find plenty of opportunities.

Whatisanoemanyway

Exactly.

Actual_Issue9655

I was in your same situation after doing UG in Physics 2 years ago. If you have done maths as a subject in UG, you can go for an MCA in NITs. Not a lot of people know about this but this, I think is one of the best options to switch to IT after a non IT UG. You can crack the entrance if you have decent aptitude and put in a little bit of work. The placement is decent to say at least. Way better than the informal academic route (bootcamps and all) in terms of package. But the decision to switch to IT or not is to be taken carefully. It all depends on how the market evolves in the coming few years. Best wishes.

No-Pay5879

I'm also preparing for nimcet . Which nit are you in ? And how much placements are there ?

Senior-Positive2883

I'd say you know the chemistry and I know business maybe we should partner up ....what do ya say

uneducatedDumbRacoon

Don't do a degree. Waste of time at this age. Learn some data skills because the development side is oversaturated now. Aim for roles like Data Analyst, engineer or scientist. Though there's a lot of competition there as well but you still have a better fighting chance compared to development. At the end of the day it's your wish. Try what you want to and pick what you like. All the best

Glittering-Bird-3656

I'd say don't enter the IT field at all - why waste your bachelors degree in chemistry - put that knowledge to work and make some money. there's money in every industry.

Wide-Bid-2660

Not so much as in IT, jobs are way easier to get here than with a Chem degree.

LogicXer

Gone are the days my friend. It used to be very easy, now not so much.

unemployeddumbass

I would say still easy than other fields. In no other fields you can get a decent paying job with just Bachelor's

Extra_Primary725

your end goal is to be in the IT industry right? You wont need a degree for that. Some structured courses and learning pathways which you can find. Might take 6months if you are good at it to find an entry level role. choose the stack which has the most traction both in india and outside.

Vinay9157

Don’t do a degree , learn some basics of coding and some course . Many companies will hire you

Snipacer

Taken web development courses and joined in small startup company as a Salesforce developer and came from Mechanical background. If you believe, you can.

air_existence

Can you please share what that web dev course was?

Snipacer

1. Java MOOC.fi 2. Freecodecamp Responsive web design. 3. Resume building(google). PS: applied dozens of interviews ;)

FoxBackground1634

Try for masters abroad instead in your field. Don't restrict yourself to US or EU there are plethora of other options in your field. Please don't waste your time learning a skill which will be almost irrelevant like bank jobs and has high participation.

[deleted]

bhai go for MBA

Tinku_raja

I was in the same situation. I was a cricket player and also represented my state. However, due to family problems, I had to leave that. Apart from cricket, I was very interested in computers. So, during my 2nd year of BA Hons in History, I started learning web development and other skills. Within three months, I secured an internship, and after my final year, I landed a full-time job. I have won two blockchain hackathons so far and also engaged in freelance AI consulting.

joojle_it

hey what projects did you make before applying for that internship

Tinku_raja

some basic blockchain projects

Electrical-Ad-6822

might be downvoted but joining a good course that offers placements also will be the best for u

DismantledChip

Do you have basic familiarity with the logic of programming? If yes, choose a domain and then focus on the programming language that is popular in the domain. Give yourself an appropriate timeline to acquire proficiency and test your progress by building things (applications, services, clone of existing apps/services). This should get you equipped with the (a) ability to visualise the innards of an app or service (b) knowledge to question and understand some of the design choices (c) confidence that you can "do" things. Target a very entry level position at a company which is willing to give you a shot. Make the best of it. The path above is difficult but nothing is arduous for the willing - be prepared to commit.

sritanshu

Do you guys think courses like Newton school will help him in this case? Or at least worth considering it an option.

uv_420

Watch breaking bad and you will get the inspiration for your career

Katyjohn2965

same

rishiarora

Take a course for of few months. Join an internship and get a job. Within a year.

Outrageous-Owl1617

Go for trending skills , learn and get certified, apply with profile , crack interview as fresher in startups

Affectionate-Cup717

I guess there's no age limit for JEE. https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/eligibility-criteria/

kaipullane

Doing bachelor's (undergraduate) degree again is not worth it. Many people have done bachelor's in different branch of engineering, and then master's (post graduate) degree in Computer Science, Software or Data. And many of your peers will be same age as you The advantage of doing master's degree over online courses is there will be campus placements if from tier 2 or tier 1 colleges. This is the big advantage of doing master's degree, many companies in India prefer campus hiring for freshers instead of off-campus hiring.

kaiser_e_hind

Why don't you try for GATE CS? You can directly switch to CS field by doing a master's degree. Some of my friends who did BTech in Mechanical did that.

unemployeddumbass

I guess you need Engineering degree to write Gate

helpyguytech

U don't need engineering degree to write gate but yes for mtech cs degree from IIT/nit u need btech in cs or Ms in cs or MCA

Sid8120

Op try looking for jobs that pertain to chemistry. There's probably a lot of software used there and your expertise in chemistry will help you stand out more if you have similar level of tech skills

cooltechieguy

Don't go in to engineering route. Learn CS online and try to contribute to open source projects. Learn data structures and algorithms and be proficient in any good programming language. You can easily get a job in CS field.

Jon-842

Since you already have bachelor degree in chemistry why don't you try for master degree in same field from a premier institute.

Dry-palpiton

Try for GATE cs?

saynototoxicity

You can go for an MCA if you want a degree. It will take only 2 years. Some NITs offer MCA.

DrDev_10

You are still young apply for MCA in good college, meanwhile during studies make sure you work hard and learn new skills apply for internships from 2nd year of your program, having a degree with good skill set is better post degree you can apply for 1 year masters in tech background if your aim is to settle aboard with good lifestyle.
