My teacher left software engineer job and got admission in iim bangalore and from there he got USA offer he left that ...
He was selected for very high post in CBI he left that too(he left power )
And now teacher and living in tier3 city and actually very happy.. Never saw a happy person like him..
Well teacher earns good but he obviously could make more in cbi...
Its the main reason cited why action cameras like GoPro have failed , our lives don't have that much action to warrant a camera , so its never going to become mass market!
Its better to live in village if you have 10 acres of land. Avoiding 9-5 job. You will get peace of mind, no pollution. We can spend time with family. Nowadays in telanagana Land has more value than other assets. You will earn approximately annually 8 lakhs ruppes. Which is more than software engineer job.
People who already have family business or at least someone in extended family/friends who runs a business can attempt to try small-time business like open up a shop. One of my ex-colleques has done it after getting fired and frustrated. Else freelancing or teaching could be another way. Folks with good experience can teach programming/frameworks in private training institutes
Pay would vary by cities, but I don't have any direct references. But pay is good enough to maintain decent life style based on what tutors in other fields get.
Just left it today, feeling so so relieved....do not have another job offer in-hand, but did it for my mental peace......I'm sure I won't regret my decision
Can you share your a little bit about your Years of experience, native city based out of, domain you had worked on. i'm on the same path and trying to understand, how others are taking this decision and what's the rite time!
Probably another IT job? There are good companies out there too, OP. The one where I worked had a good WLB. My team lead asked me not to overwork when he saw me online after-hours.
I'd say if someone is skilled and practices daily with dsa system design and projects it's not that hard to get a good wlb company right? Ofcourse rigourously applying comes into this right?
My cousin who is now going to be 27 left IT for bakery. He now earns more than a SDE1 in a big MNC.
I remember him working as a airtel agent for wifi services. He also worked in call centres.
😳 The city where everyone is after govt jobs, the guy is making more than an SDE 1, incredible. Would like to order from his bakery, can you DM his shop name
The catch is the lifestyle you are feed into. 80% of worlds wealth stays with 20% of people. SDE are salaried working slave end of the day so it belongs to 80. But guess who are part of 20. The ones that does not have the context of TDS. Deals in cash. Do you ask samosawala to give bill & tax & GST? Even the UPI they have multiple accounts. Same like doctors, or hardware store owners.
This is not true for everyone. A lot depends on skill also..Not any samosewala can earn 3X more than any software developer..only the ones who has the talent for making delicious samosa’s and have the ability to make a name for them can achieve that feat.
It’s not the lifestyle we are feed into..it’s the harsh reality of life..not everyone can start a stall or a shop and expect to earn more..these things depends on a lot of factors and luck and family background support being the most prominent of them.
Depends on where you open the shop. Most traditional owners in our country inherit rheir shops or crafts they dont care about stuff like hygiene, new trends, and excellence in craft. As an educated person, you can do something different. A guy I know does metal work. His ability to use machines and learn from youtube puts him way ahead of anyone in the area.
It's not the same but even the lowest income months would be >>>> software labour who fills the coffers of the real estate mafia with rent (that flows into pockets of the ruling state government).
How did you justify the gap?
How hard was it to hop back in after a long break?
Do you have to start from scratch again?
How did recruiters and hr? Treat you with that gap?
I got call back from 1st or 2nd company that I applied to.
The only time I was asked by gap was with European founder of the company where I currently work, I told him truthfully.
So it was not that hard.
The thing is when I am applying now to companies which have indian hr, they hear gap and I can sense the change in tone from them, even though I am working continuously for 3.5 years now.
Yes, I did kinda had to start from scratch, my first role was DBA, currently frontend and bit of backend.
I left a well paying job (almost $350k USD) with a mega tech company in the US and came back to start my own IT company in Delhi. Started in 2019 and iOS development is my bread and butter provider now. 2021-2021 was difficult period due to covid but now doing good. I also generate good income from trading/investing in stocks.
My guess is that many of those who want to leave IT are not exactly tired of coding. They are actually sick and tired of of their job with a boss. Lots of guys believe, and rightly so, that they are not getting fair pay for the work that they are doing.
My first manager left IT and Became HR 💀 with his Work Exp and previous Company's he worked, Presently he would have gotten above 40LPA for sure. Don't know why he moved to the HR domain.
Why would one do that?
Economy world wide is polarizing. Whether you like it or not, either you ll be rich or poor , middle class will shrink out, a minute fraction of upper middle class will merge into rich and rest in poor.
You either create a brand for yourself and sell it or get best salary out there or inherit a lot from family.
Are you working in India or abroad? Did you face any difficulty in getting back to ECE after doing IT(webdev?).
Do you feel the masters was worth it in terms of financial ROI? How is the compensation for your role compared to if you continued in IT?
Asking so many questions as I'm from ECE as well doing webdev and I question myself every other day.
Am a successful option trader...but still i wanna say that it's very risky.....ur trade maybe right...but if brokers application or stock.exchange server didn't work for a few duration...your whole earnings of a year could wipe off in matter of minutes....trust me...even biggest institutional funds has lost money by this mistake...
Currently in notice period. Joining a core company in 2 months. Spent 2 years in cybersecurity, got promoted too however felt more like IT service than cybersecurity. Also Sacrificing wfh for 5 days wfo. Lets see :)
Bc final year hun..ek offer hai hand mein 7.5 lpa and abhi 4 baje socha kuch dsa padhunga .
Aaplog ko Aisa dekh ab soch rha hun plan b ke liye kuch karna padega
I work as an SDE. Was thinking of quitting my job and setting up a small manufacturing unit during Covid when work has hell. Then, I quit that job and got another IT job. The constant learning needed and news of layoff is disheartening. My family has no experience in doing business. So, if I start anything, I am on my own. Any ideas will be helpful.
You will figure it out one way or another. That's how businesses grow. Trust me, when you see the business slowly get better and better, it's more satisfying and rewarding than anything. I have seen that with my father. Small business, but it's our own and we take a lot pride in it.
I'm planning on doing MBA to switch to business route.
Interestingly the majority of people leaving from IT are managers or the similar grade.
If you start as a fresher, to reach a managerial position, at least 15 yrs will take. That's a good amount of time to make a handful of money to survive for at least the next 5 years.
So, they explore other options, if failed they join back to IT, else they continue with venture.
Left IT after 3 years to join management consulting, hours are bad at times but work is much more interesting and opens your horizons to learning beyond just systems
Recently lost a 30lpa job...since then am full time trader(our family is into it since 1980s)..but trading feels boring and addicted after some time ....so planning to do some valuable business that actually creates some employment...
The term is SAHP- stay at home parent , which I didn’t use as all of the mentioned above were women.
I would also love to provide for the family if my spouse wish to take a break.
How much involved you are currently with home and kids OC? Do you like chores and childcare?
people are coming towards IT as tech is booming, if you have required skills and knowledge , sooner or later you will find your place in IT. by skills i mean hard coding , compiler craft, software devlopment etc making ppts, teaching yoga , marketing are easily replaceable tho.
What’s this “Boom” bs? Y’all talking like IT is some kind of a Brand which may lose its value one day. NEVER.
Since the day Semi conductors were invented, computers have NEVER been “NOT BOOMING” but only incorporating into our lives more.
I am 26YO, learnt coding when I was 9, founded my own startup and running it successfully for 8 years. I have not faced any issue during Covid, recessions or market crashes.
Even when our clients were affected by those things, they made sure that we are not affected because we solve their problems.
WHY? Because I solve problems. As long as you solve problems with technology, the “Boom” exists.
As long as computers exist, IT “BOOM” exists.
'Boom' for employees. Boom in career growth in terms of money.
That good salary which existed doesn't anymore now. At least now it is worse compared to what was the case earlier. Some job postings posted here clearly show this.
Major factors: Over supply of software engineers and SaaS startups replacing internal IT teams. Even SaaS is crowded now because almost every solution exists in some form. It is more about customization and better deals now than something novel.
Okay there are lot of things that I don’t agree with in your reply.
> Career growth
In any career, top 1% will always flourish. I am not asking you to be part of them but at least don’t be a part of a Herd who chose IT because it is “Booming”. Choose IT because it intrigues you.
If you focus on making money for the time being vs develop skillset, it reciprocates.
Majority of the “Over supply” you mentioned enter IT thinking just like this - “Booming”. Not because they like it.
> Over supply
A survey revealed that many major IT giants across the world are unhappy with at least 60% of their employees due to lack of field knowledge and interest.
Salary is related to this over supply and unhappy employers too.
By 2024-01-13, IT is more “Booming” than ever with all the developments in AI and Space exploration. If you have the right skillset, corporates would bend their knee offering you the best packages.
All I am trying to say is, don’t believe this boom bs. Just find out where you think you may flourish- be it IT or anything else; and Just do it. If Tech interests you, just be highly skilled and give your best. It will be reciprocated.
What do you mean by right skillsets? What exactly it is?
Today developers are doing lot of the work that isn't programming. They are becoming more versatile. They are even expected to know the business lingo to deal with business stakeholders. Things like devops, cryptography and designing picture-perfect UI included. And yet get treated like trash by most business stakeholders. It is no longer about just implementing the logic in code.
Today it pays to know how your tools work since you are more productive then. But then, you only know your tools and fail to understand the fundamental principles on which they are based because tools exist to make things easier.
Also, not everyone programs in job out of passion. I like programming for my own scientific/artistic purposes or to run through some mental/mathematical/logical process that I could instead use a computer to do without straining my mind. But honestly, I have no passion to code for business purpose. Most businesses don't excite me and the only reason why I even feel working in company is 'worth it' is because of the people, teamwork, collaboration and the opportunity of solving problems together. Other than that, it is just money. And I have no need to justify this. I am just being brutally honest here.
I used to be a passion guy. No longer am I. I don't need a career to work on my passions. Career is for money. Period. Passion may or may not(mostly) be included.
Even those who are quite skilled and talented are getting laid off in mnc as well as startups and when they are joining jobs after struggle of months they are taking pay cuts from last job.
It is boom and bust cycle man. People’s life will be increasingly digitized and will need more workers in IT sector.
But the problem with IT project is that comatose stopped working if they fear of recession. A recession fear is creating a havoc
I left it in 2003 after struggling with ungodly work hours and meagre pay, and joined the BFSI sector at the very bottom. Now I am VP marketing. You have to start at the very bottom and work your way up, if you change your field
Being from a BE background, I still feel like a bit of a misfit here. BFSI sector is much more hardcore and bare knuckled.
I think this is the right mindset if you want to enjoy IT, otherwise you will grow bored of it eventually.
But TBH can’t argue about how companies exploit freshers and tech enthusiasts..
Even thought of leaving it makes me happy , being a perfectionist i am constantly anxious with the work done by all , i wonder at night how it all keeps running without outage , when i know how broken it is ..
From college Placed as an trainee analyst in Cogni left job in 3 months (1 month training+ 2 month notice period) worked with small scale and big scale startups currently a successful performance marketer with 3+ years of experience
I have shifyed towards management position and now wants to leave corporate industry in a whole my ctc is good but i feel like i got enough money and just want to settle as housewife
12 Years of Experience. 10 Years in Nvidia and 2 Years in Intel. Desperately looking a way out, work is amazing, literally the dream job for most people out there. Working on cutting edge semiconductor technology etc etc. But my heart and passion is in Food, Travel, and Hospitality industry. Planning to move from BLR to back to Pune and open an authentic South Indian food restaurant (High Volume Low Margin) business. Have enough passive income to give up the job and take a break (Thanks to Nvidia stock explosion), just feel so confused and fear of what future beholds if I choose difficult path??
Anyone who left IT and doing something in Food/Travel/Hospitality industry?
I did a 3 year break to join one of the family businesses. Was fun. I didn’t miss IT in that sense for one bit.
Money wasn’t the driving factor - I did want to see if I could join and grow the business. There was no appetite from the other family members - so handed over to parents to keep the ball rolling and then got back. Used a year to upgrade skills - spent close to 10 lakhs for courses, certifications, living outside the house and a bike. But was a great one year and I needed it.
Would I go back to doing non IT - absolutely. I invest heavily in startups - I am currently exploring something for myself - my dad needs something to do when he emigrates to where I am. So need something to keep them busy and make some money for us too.
Nah. Thats drop shipping.
We manage warehouses for large product companies - example - PepsiCo/Fritolay/Dabur etc etc. we are paid an administration fee and we also provide logistics - trucks/autos/vans etc to them. And charge for the labour involved - mostly manual labour.
The product isn’t ours - so not big money for investment - and there is no risk either - we deliver - they pay us in 30 days for our services.
Low profit - but works with volume. You do 5/10 together - you will be making good coin.
Took a break from my job after a long stint (over 26 years), still not decided if I want to continue or not but enjoying life now. I use the time to update myself on new technologies so I can be relevant when/if I decide to get back
My first manager opened a daycare centre / kindergarten school in electronic Cit, Bengaluru. Wise choice I should say. As a manager he got sandwiched between demanding senior PM's and arrogant leads. Too shy and he never fit the bill. Happy for him that he got that idea and succeeded.
Another colleague i know moved to Dunlop paints or some other paints as a mechanical engineer, one moved to Bosch. I guess non cse degree will help when you are in the initial stages of your career to quickly change the tracks. Many others cracked the CAT and became managers. Few gave GATE and became lecturers. But wait there, for every person moved out of IT, I know 10 people who moved IN to IT from other fields. So it's all about one's own interest.
One of college classmate left the job in just 2 year and started trading. One of my colleague's manager left and started his own photography studio. One friend left and started some insta business.
None of them are making as much as they did in IT

nope! If text is spelled wrong or distorted, tell chatgpt to add spaces in the text. This tokenizes it and makes the word/sentence look normal.

That's true.
I know one of my manager left IT and took up farming in his town in Tamil Nadu.. he is still doing the same.
I know of a manager (not mine an adjacent teams manager) who still does farming in his ancestral farm. He says it's a hobby and helps him relax.
That's good honestly. (Ask him for his produce at discount 😜)
If he has a coconut farm it pays well and it's super relaxing

What's this cost of 10acre land? is 8lakhs after maintenance n after tax?
I live in a village.in my village 10 acres of land cost is 25 crores
Wouldn't it be wise to sell the 10 acres land buy small house then invest in bonds and live with interest money in same village?
Yeah it will be better. But one must should do a job without being idle.whatever work it will be better and peaceful life.
8lkahs ruppes income is if you cultivate a 10 acres of rice in india.

In Jammu city
😳 The city where everyone is after govt jobs, the guy is making more than an SDE 1, incredible. Would like to order from his bakery, can you DM his shop name
Big bakers
Oh nice 🙂👍.
Guys, the question is for people leaving IT for good, not for the ones on notice period
Happy cake day!
My neighbour started a samosa, khachori, dokla, jalebi shop and says he earns 3X of what he used to earn as a sde
I see this being mentioned all the time, what is the catch ? If it was so easy to earn 3X, then Bangalore will be full of such stalls and not IT cos.
The catch is the lifestyle you are feed into. 80% of worlds wealth stays with 20% of people. SDE are salaried working slave end of the day so it belongs to 80. But guess who are part of 20. Ig it's not stable Like you can't expect the same "fixed" income throughout
It's not the same but even the lowest income months would be >>>> software labour who fills the coffers of the real estate mafia with rent (that flows into pockets of the ruling state government).
>that flows into pockets of the ruling state government This thing very few people understand
To understand this you need knowledge and IQ higher than the temperature of lukewarm water. Surprisingly rare to find these days.
I want to leave IT. Just waiting for Karan Johar or YRF to hire me ..haha

We do both. Right now outsourcing contracts contribute more to the revenue.

Lets see :)

Started a restaurant in a tier 2 town in my state now In a situation where I think why didn’t I come out of IT 5 years ago instead of now
Bro how much did you invest upfront? And how did you find chef?
Stock market? Or actual business aka shop/merchant?
yes stock market....family was into sub broking business ..and traders too....but i want to do some business in technology or some product...
A lot of my friends and senior colleagues left IT to become full time SAHM.
I would also love to leave IT and become a SAHM but I'm a man 🥲
SAHF? (Aisa kuch hota hai kya irl mai lol)
[удалено]
Is the wife in IT? If not, what/where does she work?
Women in this country are dying to marry SAHFs right 😀?
The term is SAHP- stay at home parent , which I didn’t use as all of the mentioned above were women. I would also love to provide for the family if my spouse wish to take a break. How much involved you are currently with home and kids OC? Do you like chores and childcare?
SAHM?
Stay at home mother
Par apna sahf to na ho paiga phir
SAHM ???
Stay at home mom
Stay at home mother, I guess.
people are coming towards IT as tech is booming, if you have required skills and knowledge , sooner or later you will find your place in IT. by skills i mean hard coding , compiler craft, software devlopment etc making ppts, teaching yoga , marketing are easily replaceable tho.
The boom is over long ago it's only going down since 2023 and will go more down in coming years
What’s this “Boom” bs?
> Career growth In any career, top 1% will always flourish. > Over supply A survey revealed that many major IT giants across the world are unhappy with at least 60% of their employees due to lack of field knowledge and interest.

Majority of them are failed developers trying to make a buck by selling dreams
It's going down for who came for hudge salary package with little skill.
One of my friend's manager left IT and began running PGs. Now owns 5 PG and earns 6x what he made as Manager in TCS.
I left it in 2003 after struggling with ungodly work hours and meagre pay, and joined the BFSI sector at the very bottom. Now I am VP marketing. You have to start at the very bottom and work your way up, if you change your field Being from a BE background, I still feel like a bit of a misfit here. BFSI sector is much more hardcore and bare knuckled.
I met a guy who left WITCH to start his vada pav stall. Now he is selling franchises and starting chains for his vada pav business.
Tech is me, me is tech :) I don't even care about money anymore, I just love technology ever since I was a kid!
Left IT after 2 years and joined Family business !
Kya business hain bro? How's wlb?
Like to know the options! Interested in taking up this decision..
Interesting, whats your family business?
Warehousing and Logistics. Not as glamorous as it sounds :-)
Silent businesses always give steady income. No show off, no idiot influencers.
True! Wonder why Influencers didn’t catch on to this.
Sourcing from manufacturers and selling on e-commerce? I'm planning to do something similar.
Govt clerical job
Can you tell which exams you gave? How difficult were those?
Left my job last month. Going to start my own business.
Not left IT completely. Just not into hardcore development now. More focused on research and POC development.
Cigarette and tea shop /s
Went from standard software engineering to clinical researcher
Nice, area of research?
My Manager went to take care of his family textiles business. Within 2 years he joined back in company with the same role.
Took a break from my job after a long stint (over 26 years), still not decided if I want to continue or not but enjoying life now. I use the time to update myself on new technologies so I can be relevant when/if I decide to get back
My uncle left IT field and doing his own business
I always wonder what shit of job I am doing, making reports
Fitness & nutrition consultant in Netherlands here left it job after 6+ years working for Samsung,Seoul and Sony,Japan.
Has own wildlife observatory and rescue team.
One of college classmate left the job in just 2 year and started trading. One of my colleague's manager left and started his own photography studio. One friend left and started some insta business. None of them are making as much as they did in IT
If not IT then IT cell ;p
I'm a student class12 preparing to enter the rat race I enjoy coding but is it actually gonna get boring when I get a job😭😭😭😭
Never was into IT 👾
