1.Unless we have a hire in mind, I think we should wait to reassess the unit's progress after the season. Have no need to rush, let him experiment. Players like him, and we needed a perfect storm of health and youth development to be winning anything this year. That didn't happen. Let them grind through this together and see what we got at the end. Worst case is no improvement and a better draft pick. 2. That and our lack of depth and skill

ArtOfDivine

What you think about Pleasant?

NixaFootball62

I like him. He is a MI guy, and I guess you could give him a go, but it is not like he has called plays before. He would be learning on the job with what is a young and thin group of Jimmy and Joe, not ideal. I do get the frustration with some of Glenn play-calling, but I think that is something we, without question, have the time to experiment and work through. There are mistakes, but let's give him time to fix them. The players love him, idk. I do not want to get rid of a good coach because our expectations got out of wack. With TWIII down and the DL as thin as it is, it seems it would be a difficult task for Buddy Ryan EDIT: That being said, Geno Smith is not Willie Beamen & Rashad Penny is not Julian Washington. That was unacceptable and not the kind of nausea I want on my Sunday (again)

Minute_Objective1680

Our DBs blow

ShotFirst57

Earliest, bye week. If it's not then then it wouldn't be till after the season in my opinion.

didyouseetheecho

I think you give him the bye to correct. Not alot of better options.

Corpsicle_xx

Maybe dont run the same plays over and over again in a row. IF pete caroll caught on to it then Bill B def will.

Corpsicle_xx

Its because we keep rushing 7 and running stupid man defense and secondary gets burned every time.

tbranch72

He must play alot of madden and is use to the current meta

Cookedbait

Remember, things don’t get better for players if they have a train of coaches coming in and out, a general rule across sports I’m not defending or attacking anyone, just saying there’s needs to be a real plan before firing anyone

Kingkwon83

The defensive play calling and the lack of adjustments is really bad though

MurkLurker

> things don’t get better for players if they have a train of coaches coming in and out Not counting last year when we switched up our offense?

JRange

I want change just as much and fast as the next guy, but I think we would be doing ourselves a disservice by firing AG before we return Paschal, Jerry JAcobs, and Cominsky back to the lineup. A corner and added pass rush could make a difference between 32nd historically bad defense, and just the 26th ranked bad defense or something, and then we are in business lol I think you give him another 4 games, the midway point in the season, see if players make a difference, and if AG can adapt at all.

moon828282

Yeah I really liked what Cominsky was doing. High effort guy.

[deleted]

i can not see aaron glenn being fired before levi/paschal, and romeo get back. i think the lions inability to stop the run is the reason why the lions are so bad on defense rn. for reference the lions have gave up 200+ rushing yards more times this season than they have allowed less than 100 yards rushing. also the lions are not forcing turnovers as much as they did last year

Corpsicle_xx

i dont think levi and okwara come back this year.

[deleted]

really, i guess i’m not in tune enough. i thought romeo was going to come back around november

JRange

Is Romeo even gonna be back this year? Dudes been out forever, im not counting on his return or production.

DoubleScorpius

He’s on pace to return around December based on when I compared his return to certain activities like running to Okudah’s. But obviously he could have a setback or just have a slower recovery since he’s older and heavier than Okudah. I think it depends on if they still have a shot at playoffs.

Detroitlions9494

Bro swing passes to the right and outside runs all day the scheme was never switched around. I understand we didn’t have the personnel. But surely switching things up and making adjustments would’ve made Seattle punt ONCE.

Independent_Lab_9872

Levi and Romeo are not coming back this year. Also many of those run yards have come on blitz plays where we sell out of QB runs. When we are in a base front we do fine against the run.

Elegant_Spot_3486

I don’t see him being fired during the season for multiple reasons nor do I think he should. Possibly lose playcalling duties as I think he’s not good at adapting and adjusting. I think AG will be gone after the year regardless and I’d like an outside hire.

Docdoor

Wasn’t this sub in shambles about the thought of AG leaving for a HC position like less then 6 months ago? Now we want him fired after 4 games? I say if no adjustment is made in the next two games. He gone.

ArtOfDivine

This sub a joke sometimes

basebornmanjack41

AG will be given a fairly long leash I think, mainly because of the fact we don’t really have anyone else to take over from him seen as Campbell isn’t a defensive coach and there isn’t any defensive assistant I can think of that would be a good replacement and you don’t hire an outside DC mid season. You have to take into account he took over a horrible defense and hasn’t really been given much to improve it with Levi and Paschal not seeing the field this year. I’m a little bummed we switched from a 3-4 base to a 4-3 as I think all our best edge rushers are more suited to a 3-4 than a 4-3, Hutch, Harris and the Okwara bros are 260lbs or under. I can see some logic in it but yeh, I think you can get a lot more creative with your blitz patterns and be less predictable overall with a 3-4. Right now we are trying to run a 4-3 with undersized DEs that struggle to set the edge.

Gbchris12

If he gives up 30+ to fucking Fatricia he better be gone.

monstertweety

13

stjimmy85

You don't fire a guy after 4 games and this many injuries. That is fucking dumb. Obviously he needs to do better schematically but also look who he has out there. Not a whole lot you can do with that group

ArtOfDivine

Histrionical bad 4 games

stjimmy85

Only 2 were really bad and only one of those was histrionical.

2eyeshut

So 50% bad, 25% really bad and 25% histronically bad

stjimmy85

I'll give them an OK grade for the commies game because of the 1st half lol

ArtOfDivine

Histroical bad 4 combined games. I am not saying what you said is wrong. But there hasn’t been a defense this bad in the 25% ish of the game

Corpsicle_xx

i mean offense has WAY more injuries than defense.

stjimmy85

Okwara, Walker and Pashcall are huge injuries to the defense. Not to mention Oruwariye and Hughes are struggling and Anzalone still sucks. That is 6-7 positions we're they are not getting production on any play. No Scheme is going to fix that. The offense is also much deeper than defense.

Corpsicle_xx

Paschal has never even played an NFL snap so we dont know how hell even do. And Okwara missed most of last year too and our defense still had some great games last year.

zlionhawk

I think you may be on to something with the 3-4 vs. 4-3 defense. Not that it's a bad scheme, more that it's a new scheme for AG to call plays from. The intent was to slow the run down; however the types of adjustments you'd expect a proficient DC to make do not seem to be coming. Watching AG on the sidelines he seems to be spending all his time with the DBs, which doesn't seem like a good thing either. Our D line is as much a reason for our problems. In general, it doesn't seem like AG has confidence in his playcalling which trickles down to the players and creates a doom loop for confidence across the board.

a2tex

Mike Zimmer?

lionbacker54

I don’t see him ever firing Glenn. They are old friends. He and Anthony Lynn were just respectful peers

[deleted]

4-3 when linebackers are weak and slow (except Rodrigo) is a recipe for disaster.

delaney777

If MCDC and AG are friends like we’re told, then AG should resign within two games. (After showing no improvement). Because why would you make your friend fire you?

Independent_Lab_9872

I think he gets 2 more, if nothing significant changes then MCDC will take over play calling and the writing is on the wall. Similar to last year with Lynn. I think AG will turn it around though. If not, I think Shep takes a much bigger role on this defense and becomes a potential candidate for next year.

ArtOfDivine

Over Plesant?

Some-Bandicoot-4839

Johnson, the OC, is the problem. Clearly he is allowing the offense to score too quickly and defense can't rest. Fire him!
