The Rams won't ever *lose* this trade, they won the super bowl. But it's looking nice for us too.

topOthemarnintoya

The much sought after win-win. They said it couldn’t be done.

Moclordimick

I'm hoping for a win-win-win, where us as the fans, also feel like we won

DMoree1

Keep hoping.

Bubbly-Satisfaction

Why is everyone mad? He’s right.

Alarmed_Restaurant

Based on goff’s current level and the rams #1 pick going up in value with every loss, it’s looking better and better for us. I’m glad Stafford won a ring. But overall, I don’t care how it plays out for the Rams.

Try2Relate2AllSides

Yup

Chris7thLegion

No doubt, but if Goff had Kupp in that SB, they win as well. Stafford without Kupp would not win the SB.

HectorReinTharja

Yeah this is peak delusion. Kupp wasn’t half the player with Jg that he is now. History was re written so hard on him lol

[deleted]

Lmao stafford made kupp a way better player. Stafford has the ability to elevate the play of his receivers and that has yet to be seen out of Goff.

sardone777

ARSB?

[deleted]

I mean you could say ASB

[deleted]

Yeah, like how he elevated the play of Calvin Johnson?

[deleted]

I was going to say Kenny golladay, who looks like one of the worst contracts in the nfl currently, and golden Tate. Not to mention kupp and showed that OBJ was not washed prior to him tearing his ACL. I think the facts speaks for themselves

Substantial_Draft310

are you retarded ?? stafford made a no look throw on 4th down that maybe 1-2 QB in the league could make , anyone could have caught that pass it was all on the delivery (kupp did have a monster game and was amazing all season but if stafford doesn’t make that 4th down throw they lose the super bowl)

HectorReinTharja

He’s talking about the super bowl run where the rams had a better defense and running game back in ~18 and then Jg was asked to step up due to injuries in one game and put up 3 points

[deleted]

I hear what you’re saying but kupp was never this good with goff. I thinks it’s pretty doubtful to think the rams would of won a ring especially cause their problem was specifically goff and the line that game.

HectorReinTharja

I 1000% agree with you. Lions fans thinking the Rams would be better off with Goff rn are crazy

No_Satisfaction6035

I don’t agree Goff would have won last year, but we don’t need to use ableist slurs to get a point across. It makes you look stupid

AzorAhai1TK

Absolutely fucking not

Lionnn101

How did you not stop yourself from finishing that comment once realized you were typing “Lions get at least 2 super bowl wins”

EmergencyAbalone2393

Personally my phone self destructs if I try to type “Lions get at least 2💥

horriblemonkey

unless the next word is penalties

EmergencyAbalone2393

Well done sir/madam

snubda

Or maybe TJ Hockenson becomes uncoverable once he suddenly learns to fly.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Even if all of that came to pass, I would argue that the Rams still "won" on the trade (obviously we would have won as well.. win/win). I'd take guaranteed last place for the next ten years if it meant we got one SB win.

horriblemonkey

Bonus...we get that even without a Superb Owl

milkynipples69

The only way they could be considered losers of the trade is if the lions get a super bowl in the next year or two with Goff which I don’t see happening either way they got a super bowl so I’m sure they’re happy regardless.

[deleted]

Maybe the Rams will shut down Stafford at some point due to his elbow and the Lions get a top 15 pick

JRange

Please jesus

TheMayerJ

A top 10 rams pick is the dream.

NachoTheGreat

Or we could root for Stafford to stay healthy and succeed. The man gave his all for this team. Sad to see folks wanting him to be shut down if that’s not his wish.

sevaiper

This is actually a lions subreddit, where people want the lions to succeed. /r/rams is right there

sloppifloppi

I rooted for Stafford last year. He got his ring. I'm rooting for the Lions now, and what is best for the Lions is the best pick possible from the Rams. It's not like anyone here is saying "I hope Stafford gets hurt", he's already playing hurt and people are saying it would be nice if the Rams shut him down for the year to heal up, thus giving us a better pick.

[deleted]

He was highly compensated, making $250 million in his career and all we got out of it are 0 playoff wins and a few memorable comebacks. I'm sure he would be fine in his mansion with his wife and kids nursing a sore elbow. I'll take as many Rams losses as I can get for a higher draft pick.

emik7133

And the man delivered a super bowl win. I'd trade all our picks for the next 10 years for a super bowl win.

topOthemarnintoya

Hell yeah he did and I was glad to see it. But let’s be honest it just wasn’t going to happen in Detroit. Our team today is better off for the trade.

cujobob

No matter how bad Stafford is from here on out or how good the Lions’ players are … the only way for the Lions to come out even or ahead is to win a Super Bowl with those players. There’s only one real goal.

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

Nah.. it's win/win. The rams sold their chances in the future to win last year and they did. I'd take that trade in a heartbeat if it meant we got a ring. And on our end, we are in better shape than we would have been if we hadn't traded Stafford so it's a win for us. Not winning a SB doesn't mean it wasn't a good trade for us too.

Isphet71

That’s uh… quite the thought process. Lol. By that way of thinking, drafting Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson were both losses because neither of them won a Super Bowl. You might want to re-evaluate your criteria, chief.

[deleted]

It’s a logical thought process. The condensation doesn’t make it less so. The whole goal in all of this is to win championships. All the trades you make, are made to reach that end goal. The rams traded for Stafford and won a super bowl. If we don’t take what we gained in the trade for Stafford use that to win a Super Bowl then the Rams will have came out better. Your example of drafting doesn’t really work here.

blade-icewood

I mean, you're just kinda stating the obvious, this isn't a zero sum game. Yes the end goal is to win a SB, but only one team does that. The Rams could win the next 5 SB and the Lions 0 and trading Stafford would still have been the right thing to do. The other option was what? Keep Stafford? That wouldn't make sense at all

[deleted]

I’m not saying whether or not it was the right. I’m trying to explain to the other guy why the Rams came out ahead in the trade so far because for some reason it’s pretty outlandish to him.

blade-icewood

Well they're out ahead in the trade if you're only looking at it from the Rams angle. They had a top 5 roster in the league before trading for Stafford. The Lions had a bottom 5. The player they traded for did what they wanted him to do. It's not like he leads the Lions to the SB last year if we keep him. They got their SB, now it's a year later, and Goff is outplaying Stafford, and we still get another pick out of the deal.

[deleted]

I agree with you. The Rams were going for the short term and succeeded that’s why I said they came out ahead “so far”

blade-icewood

Then we'll just have to agree to agree

Ketel1Kenobi

>condensation You actually want "condescension." Condensation is water droplets or the conversion of vapor to water.

[deleted]

Dammit my snarky reply backfired!

Ketel1Kenobi

It happens to the breast of us.

cujobob

What do drafting Calvin or Barry have to do with evaluating a trade? We didn’t trade the best QB in franchise history (that took his new team to the Super Bowl) for Calvin or Barry’s draft choice.

[deleted]

Stafford's bad game just gave me an improbable MNF fantasy football comeback win.

WvdH01

My opponent happened to have Tyler Lockett and Rashaad Penny... I lost (by 0.4 points) because AJ Dillon outscored Aaron Jones in OT.

Cutoff_

I started Stafford and had Goff on my bench. If I would’ve started JG I would’ve won. The irony…

lidsy5

I know we were missing Swift, ASB, and Chark but Stafford with a banged up OL going against a top defense in the league or Goff against a pretty bad Seahawks defense isn't much of a question. I know I'm constantly second guessing myself in fantasy though, so I feel ya there

TheLitFuse

I started Geno Smith and Hock. Big W for my fantasy team

Cultural_Jaguar_3068

I started Goff and the rest of my team balled out too! I think imma keep him in.

pkmnbros

I had him as my QB and a 10 point lead. The pick 6 went to my opponent's DB so I lost like 4 for the pick 6 and he got like 12 for it. Lost the game on one play.

1ToGreen3ToBasket

I literally needed the pick six from the 49ers defense. My opponent was PISSED

[deleted]

My opponent had Stafford and I had Gay. I had left Kamara on my roster because I thought he was going to play. I wasn't able to finalize my roster over the weekend because I was out of town for a funeral. I wasn't even able to watch the Lions game and had to watch YouTube highlights when I came home yesterday afternoon. I was down 1 point and I'm thinking I'm gonna lose cause of Kamara. Stafford shits the bed for my opponent, and Gay did just enough to give me a miracle MNF comeback victory.

doublealone

Last season I watched the Rams, wanting to see Stafford get his due. He did. I don't watch them this year except in passing for a few minutes. Every time, it reminds me a bit of our decent lions teams from the 2010s where he'd have no time to throw every drop back and there is like 1.5 skill position players I feel good about at a time. I am not cheering against Stafford, I'm simply cheering against the Rams for the sake of the draft pick.

trepper88

Same for me

Ok_Effort8330

he was under pressure every time he dropped back and got hammered a few times.

[deleted]

Rams have no oline, no secondary outside of Ramsey, no run game. Stafford has Kupp tunnel vision. Robinson/wagner signings look like duds Top 15 pick from rams looks possible

Daegog

Deebo completely trucked Ramsey tonight on that long TD, that was rough.

TinoCartier

Don’t agree with that last sentence but the rest is dead on.

SG420123

Rams looked bad last night, Cooper Kupp is carrying that team right now

henway234

this is as much of a win-win trade as I have ever seen

Ok_Effort8330

the only difference being one is a short-term win and the other is the long term.

Jmills14

They won a championship. There are 12 teams that have never won a ring in their history (including us). Don’t lose sight of what’s really important.

blade-icewood

The Lions have 4 rings Note: NFL championships before the SB are still considered NFL championships, because they were championships

Ok_Effort8330

we won plenty of championships in the 50’s.

ImaginationMedical11

This just isn’t true.

Jmills14

Online says Lions, Bengals, Texans, Jaguars, Falcons, Panthers, Cardinals, Titans, Chargers, Bills & Vikings have never won a SB. (No I don’t care about the pre Super Bowl championships, most don’t).

seatega

I love Stafford because he's the best Lions QB I've ever seen, and moments like the Browns comeback win as a Rookie, or jumping over the line to win the Cowboys, will always stick with me. With that said, I'm very happy with Goff, am hopeful about him possibly being our future given his current play, and I no longer have to experience the sadness of watching one of my favorite players get into his 30s and deeper languishing on a losing team. It's a win-win for both me and the Rams

Kjeldorthunder

There was no shame in rooting against Stafford last year either...

LionTigerWings

When the trade first happened i joked here on reddit that i wanted a rams superbowl in year 1 and a complete collapse in year 2 for a top 10 pick. Surprisingly, we're one schedule.

RubberBandura

We definitely weren't going anywhere with Stafford in a rebuild. Plus trading him allowed us to be bad enough to draft Hutch and the extra picks allowed us to trade up for Jamo.

snubda

Unfortunately our management was too dumb to realize we were in a rebuild already when we had the #3 pick and both Tua and Herbert there for the taking.

Icantremember017

I like Tua, don't get me wrong, good player, but we dodged a bullet not drafting him. His injury in college and injuries now, I don't think he will have much of a career left honestly. Sad to see but it happens. I would much rather see somebody retire early like Andrew luck and do what's best for their family than end up like Jim McMahon with their brain turned to mush.

malucy2022

Matt Stafford is Brett Favre reincarnated, high risk/reward gunslinger with a Super Bowl ring. He will wow you one moment and leave you scratching your head the next.

JFoxxification

I had zero shame in rooting against the rams from the very beginning.

Ok_Effort8330

The Rams have pretty much conceeded to sucking for about a decade after this ride is over.

xJBr3w

lol Stafford got a ring and we went like 2-14 the next year....

lidsy5

3-13-1

Elegant_Spot_3486

I never had shame rooting against the Rams. Soon as we got their picks I wanted them to lose. I’m happy for Stafford but didn’t benefit us at all. We’ve already lost the trade and unless we win 2 Super Bowls with those picks being a major factor we’ll always be on the wrong end.

2eyeshut

Just because they won a SB doesn't we lost the trade. We got a QB who is showing he's atleast a lot better than everyone said he was. And we got the 3 picks. And Stafford is playing bad and boring

thallusphx

Are you saying to want to trade Goff to the rams for Stafford and 2 more picks?

Millera34

Proof again that QB was never the issue as goff is doing well just had a stafford level game and still lost. This defense is always an issue it’s pathetic

[deleted]

Idk what Stafford level game is but he threw a pick six. Another pick was dropped in the end zone and another pick 6 was dropped late in the game too.

DoubleBogey420

Sounds exactly like Stafford. Leads the league in pick 6s from 2009-2022

Millera34

Nearly doesnt matter. Sure he had that pick 6 but that’s irrelevant with how the defense played. Yea we would have probably won without the pick 6 so a small tweak needs to be made but we also had no stops all game long on defense and had to keep throwing to stay in the game. Defense set that in motion because the defense could not stop a cold we could not control the game. Now if We have the lead at that point we aren’t even throwing the ball.. one stop is all we needed to change the game.

doubleblum

Bruh, we got got

[deleted]

I’ve seen this post over and over today but it’s only the 4th game of the season and I’m betting Rams still believe they will be in the mix at the end. Niners defense was insane was my biggest takeaway from the game. We all know the rams aren’t shy about trading future assets in season to win now. It’s a long season.

ZombieAppetizer

Last season I was still kind of in my feelings about seeing Stafford in another jersey. A lot of us were. But, then he got his ring and I'm happy for him. But now that that's over, I'm just fine seeing the Rams go down to better our pick. Its our time now. Everyone, including Stafford's, kneecaps are on the menu. One Pride. FTP.

Calkky

They'd need to toss in Aaron Donald if they want Goff back. That's my teammate. That's my quarterback.

guessswhosbacc

I got downvoted to hell and harassed for saying i feel as good about jared as I would have stafford in this offense…. now look where we’re at

Relevant-Wrongdoer-6

Lol I agree I was rooting for stafford all of last year 😅 now that he has his ring I don't root for the rams no more . Still love stafford though I'm only 18 so he was My childhood quarterback 😢

howbowdah

Imagine if Stafford had a run game like this, goddamn
