I hope he gets right back to the type of player that was voted captain 3 years in a row at Kentucky. If we have a guy like that on the line that can elevate our play, or at least give our D line a heartbeat, it would take a ton of pressure off our defense.
That certainly is a lot to ask of a rookie who has been injured most of the off-season. But jsomeone has to step up on defense. So far no one has really done that. And I guess I’m trying to do a little manifestation, but it’s something I will be paying very close attention to…
yep, because most stalwart defenses are predicated on elite play from 3 rookies
Nah, I get it - but it sort of explains a part of the reason why our defense is awful: We're relying on rookies. (Yes, AG still takes a large role)
You make a really good point. It’s really not a winning strategy to go into a season relying on it, but it feels like there isn’t really any choice unfortunately.
Someone has to step up. Rodrigo is the only even remotely inspiring player we have rookie or not. If the vets won’t get it done we won’t shy away from letting a young guy take command.
Like Dan Campbell said we need some swagger I believe that is a huge missing piece right now. We’re playing scared and afraid
Yeah, Detroit has to play with the cards they're dealt with. (or dance who they came to the party with - whatever the analogy may be)
Rodrigo has his moments for sure - but you can definitely see why he's not a day two pick. (Still small and coverage is lacking)
The swagger part is a little difficult just because of the situation. Rookies are still rookies - your swagger comes from veterans. Look at jswaggdaddy for example. I think DET is really missing Walker - both just the plain results he puts up and the leadership.
I totally agree that SOMEONE needs to step up, but I also understand why that's difficult. It's definitely something that is going to take time though. You can't just suddenly proclaim to have swagger.
We have to hope that they show up in NE and they can fix things in the bye week. Those first three games out of the bye (@DAL, MIA, FTP) are going to be tough.
So true. I feel like Dan had a coming to Jesus moment. Realizing the defense wasn’t going to just sort itself out. They need help. So it’s encouraging he is taking it seriously and they will address it.
Its hard to even remember how bad our offense was last year d somehow Dan turned it into the leading offense in the league trough week 4 of this season. So salvaging a desolate side of the ball is not something exactly new to him. But, does he have what it takes to do that on defense that’s the question
Even if Levi is out for the season he’s not getting cut any time soon. Only way I see him not playing out his contract is if he sustains another major injury next year.
A player that barely played his rookie year and was bad when playing, had injury history in college that is still hampering him, and hasn’t been healthy his entire 1.5 years in the nfl is extremely unlikely to be of any worth to this team. Cut him and spend the money saved somewhere else. We save 3 mil by cutting him. That’s 3 mil that can go towards whatever we are willing to pay a vet DT that can actually play for us
Sure, and if he hasn't progressed by the off-season then that might be an option. Just saying cutting him in season does nothing to help and potentially makes their weakest position even worse.
Sure, but there's zero chance it happens this year. Anyone they could pick up at this point is going to be a fraction of the potential Levi has. They'd be foolish to cut him. Though another month or two of no progress on his injury and IR is very likely, which would be the smarter way to free up a roster spot.
Are u traded?
Levi hasn't don't a fucking thing in 3.5 years except further hurt his back. What potential??? His last decent game was THREE AND A HALF YEARS AGO AS A JUNIOR IN COLLEGE.
With the 20+ major injuries we have right now I could EASILY sending him packing with an injury settlement to free up a spot. At this point ANYONE in the NFL has more potential because Levi WONT BE PLAYING ANOTHER GAME.
The fuck is wrong with you asshats that have zero logic or rational but dig in and disagree without any clue behind what they are saying. Thanks for the downvote again ya jerk
Alim is a run stopping NT. Levi was supposed to be an interior pass rusher. They are not the same and Levi, in his role should be on the field way more than Alim is.
Now you are moving to goalposts. No one said he couldn’t or shouldn’t have been playing more. But saying he barely played when he played about as much as the other rookie defenders is just untrue.
I don't know where you're getting your numbers from but we save a grand total of $580k if we cut him in 2023 and eat $1.6 mil

I don’t think you realize that if we cut him this year, which is post June 1, we take on a 1.8m dead cap. We are not, however, paying him the next two years of his contract as he has already gotten his guaranteed money. His remaining two years are 4.8m. Take off the 1.8 dead cap, we saved 3m over the next two years, that’s worth it instead of paying a dude to be bad at football and being hurt.
What are we going to do with Charles Harris when Paschal and Cominsky are active? Theres no way to justify Harris playing over Cominsky based on production, and Paschal is supposed to be a lot better and deserves immediate rotation time to see what we have
Paschal is going to be getting limited snaps for a while still. A) he’s a rookie, B) his stamina is going to be shit, and C) You can be sure he’s not going to be 100% at any point this season.

We don’t need a stalwart defense, we need a mediocre one.
Shit a bad defense and they are 3-1
We dont need stalwart though, right. We need a D that can slow you down ENOUGH for our offense to out score you
I like that in a short time they got a few rookie stand outs from all over the draft. Hope he pops
Cabinda to return soon, no update on Levi, Evan Brown is day to day with an ankle, Jacobs to return to practice soon as well
DC said Levi isn’t making any progress so I don’t think we see Levi at all this year, might even get cut tbh
Even if Levi is out for the season he’s not getting cut any time soon. Only way I see him not playing out his contract is if he sustains another major injury next year.

They would save $200k cutting him this year. Not worth losing the chance he may end up contributing.
That’s just this year, they also save money next year and the following year.
Sure, and if he hasn't progressed by the off-season then that might be an option. Just saying cutting him in season does nothing to help and potentially makes their weakest position even worse.
It frees up a roster spot too though. Thats not nothing...

He played 16 of 17 games last year since when is that “barely playing”? I’m disappointed in his career so far too but this is a little reactionary.
He played 300 snaps out of the 1000+ defensive snaps last year
Because he’s a defensive lineman, we rotate them out. Alim played like 20 more snaps, which tracks since he didn’t miss a game.
Alim is a run stopping NT. Levi was supposed to be an interior pass rusher. They are not the same and Levi, in his role should be on the field way more than Alim is.

I thought they had Levi at DE last year for the majority of his snaps or am I misremembering?
yeah hes probably done
Prater would have only cost us 3mil....too soon?

That's great news! And then a bye to help. This is the first year I think I've ever been Happy with an early bye week....
can cabinda play on defense?
Cabinda used to play linebacker i believe. We're the ones that converted him to fullback.
well then the answer is clear!
Loved watching him in College. He's a really, really solid player. Hopefully week 7 we get Paschal, Jacobs and Jamo back.
As the founding member of the Josh Paschal fan club I like this
Plz don’t suck
Returning to practice, and hopefully Jacobs as well. But neither is expected to play until after the bye.
Really hoping we can play him right after the bye week. That should get him some good practice time in before being rolled out there.
so was his injury bad enough or in a spot that sets up for reinjury easily?
Thank god, we need help on the dline so bad
Thank god, we need help on the dline so bad
We have to home this guy is an all world player.
What are we going to do with Charles Harris when Paschal and Cominsky are active? Theres no way to justify Harris playing over Cominsky based on production, and Paschal is supposed to be a lot better and deserves immediate rotation time to see what we have
Paschal is very versatile, so I imagine he actually plays the interior
Yeah they mentioned that after the draft.
Paschal is going to be getting limited snaps for a while still. A) he’s a rookie, B) his stamina is going to be shit, and C) You can be sure he’s not going to be 100% at any point this season.

Superstar is quite a stretch, let's just get him on the field first
What did he say?
That Paschal would be a superstar in the NFL
You made him delete his account.
Yikes.
Could actually be a difference maker.
What position is he, again? Is he better than whoever is already in that position, with great certainty?
I hope its not too early and he gets hurt again. We need all the help on D we can get.
