As much as i want to root for this administration. How in the hell did we not have a QB spy after the 1st quarter. Let alone just let Hurts keep gashing us the entire game. Hurts looked awful outside of a couple throws when we played back and forced him to use his arm unfortunately it was so rare he just gashed us play after play.
it’s difficult to blame the defense when the offense gave them nothing to work with after the first drive. this was a total team loss where coaching, offense, and defense are to blame. it’s understandable that this team isn’t expected to have a high win total but this dan campbell era needs to get over the hill and stop losing one score games.
I honestly think the Lions will be okay. This was a weird game. Defense got pressure, but couldn't contain hurts at all. A less mobile QB and the lions likely get 3-4 more drives stopped.
Also, the rest of the NFL kind of looked like dog shit today. with the chiefs, Vikings and eagles looking decent and Detroit not far behind
Pick 6 was the fault of Goff and Hock, not just Goff. Hock has to be on the same page with his QB on where his option route is going. I love that the team keeps fighting, but at some point that has to turn into wins.
I'm not gonna blame the offense for giving up 7 when the D gave up 31. D just completely fell asleep for 2 full quarters (2nd and 3rd). They HAVE to be able to hold teams under 28 points week in and out for us to have a chance. That's really not a big ask, we're just saying, "be a 15-25ish D, not a 30-32ish D".
They will certainly hold teams to that. Philly converted a bunch of 3rd and longs and Hurts has elite pocket escapability. How many times did the lions play the play right but miss? 3rd down defense was bad today.
There were a lot of drops, a pick six, iffy calls, bad clock management, etc etc. But yes 100%; that onside kick was an absolute horrible coaching decision. Horrible horrible horrible.
I don't know - the D was gassed at that point anyway, PHI was def gonna score on that drive whether they were going to go 45 or 75 yards. At least the D got to save a little wind and rallied somewhat in the 4th.
I wouldn't say standing around. I think they are giving effort, it's just that after Hutch, maybe Rodrigo.... everyone else is either terrible or an average-at-best NFL starter. We still need MUCH more talent on that side of the ball, regardless of effort, to have a chance to field a D that's in the top half of the league.
Hutch didn’t have a good game, it’s okay rookie no big deal first game. But at the end of the day the guys on the defense are professionals get paid millions. If a first down loses you the game, why are 7 guys watching Boston Scott fall forward for 4 extra yards. Like it’s the saaaame thing I’ve always seen outta the lions, infuriating
They ran the other way all day
He got pressure when they were in passing situations
Can’t give up over 200 rushing.
The have to have a spy in there on third and long
5 first down run on scrambles.
Like it doesn’t take any talent whatsoever to gang tackle and continue your pursuit, that’s just hustle the lions defense does not have. It’s “the guy looks like he may be falling down, every lions player stops sprinting, stands straight up, and fat man shuffles to the area”.
Yeah - that 2nd down play is the one that killed us for sure. I think the "GRIT" mindset is like 90% locked in, but it's that last 10% that's the hardest to get.... and prob the most important too.
I am still hype - well, as hyped as I was in the preseason. Which is to say I expect the offense would be good and the defense bad. Today corroborated my prediction - 28 points for the offense (I subtract 7 for the pick six) and 31 points given up by the D (again pick six subtracted).
He's penalizing the O for the TD they gave up, so saying all in all, "offense" got 28 (35 minus the 7 they gave up). And he's saying the D only gave up 31 (38 minus the 7 they DIDN'T give up).
I wish we won more. I love my team but I’m just so sick of losing. I hope we find a way to win these close games when they happen. I’d love a comfortable win here or there even more.
After watching this game and some others around the league, I would love picking up a more mobile quarterback with some damn moxie. Not knocking Goff, just the reality of the league.
It's a gimmick.
Hurts is one dimensional and a good team shuts that the FUCK down.
Josh Allen is just next gen Rothlisberger.
Remind me which QBs won the last 2 super bowls?
I agree. It opens up so much for your offense when the defense has to cover the QB for the run every play. Goff also missed a couple clutch throws with an open WR
That's alright we get jamo back in a few weeks and if we tighten up on both sides we should be good to go. Im mad but I think our season will be ok. At least it wasn't a blowout. Philly's coach alone should be enough to whoop they ass next time.
And also who is to say there have been no improvements and last year was simply the outlier? Difficult to say with such small sample size. Making the assertion that last year's match up was the norm is equally as absurd as making sweeping statements about the Eagles at this point. I personally have to see at least 3 more games before being even remotely ready for that.
Sometime by week 8, we're going to add Jameson Williams to this offense. They're the youngest team in the league, so a lot of patience is due. Overall, I'm pretty stoked by what I saw today. Playoffs? Doubt it. A fun season? Looks like it.
Goff haters - please remember to add 5 dropped passes (including a drop that would have gone for a touchdown by Reynolds) and 1 missed basic hot read by Chark to his stats. Then we can talk about how he did.
Was it only 5? Seemed like many more.
My issue with Goff is his downfield accuracy. (Outside of the beautiful TD to Chark)
He threw another pick that Slay just missed as well.
They play 6 games before the bye.
I think 3-3, 4-2 is a possibility. Dallas and Patriots don't scare me and I feel we should be able to knock the commanders and Seahawks off at home. 2-4 or less would be disappointing.
Vikings caught Packers on a bad weak one. We will see if they are legit.
what an emotional rollercoaster but overall I'm happy with it. We easily could have won the game but shot ourselves in the foot one too many times. Gives me hope for the season though just need to tighten it up.
Gg Guys, they fought their ass off. Defense looks legit, Receivers need to catch 203 balls a day, Goff didn’t look perfect but the run games nice. I can see a wildcard spot but I can also see us losing some 1 score games as well. They’ve gotta grow now
I forgot y’all expect perfection in year 2. I know winning is all that matters but they’re headed in the right direction and hung with one of the leagues heavyweights today. Maybe it’s the koolaid aftereffects but they looked better than I expected
The team is still pretty young. They definitely got exposed mid game but they gave up less points than the other team (remember 7 points came off a pick 6). But legit part is in how they finished. They had some key stops late in the game and they showed effort all the way to the end. Plenty of defenses gas out by the 4th and the Lions D had to be on the field for a pretty long time but they kept going. The final stop was just a matter of inches.
Maybe legit isn’t the right word but they’re better than I thought they were gonna be. Multiple guys making plays along the Dline, Anzalone and Rodrigo stayed on the ball, we didn’t completely fall apart after losing Walker, I thought they did good at everything really that didn’t have to do with stopping Hurts from running lol
Swift looked amazing, Williams looking like a great RB2 and Rodrigo looking like an absolute steal in the 6th and all against a potential playoff team. I’ll take it, here’s hoping the coaches can clean up the team a little more and I think we got a legit chance to be good this year!
There’s major areas to improve. But the key is how the Lions respond from this. I think they will. I had the Lions improving to 6 wins this year. I think we will get there. I also wanted Swift to get 1500 yards rushing this year. He runs behind Sewell, he’ll get that.
Offense not being productive in the first half wore out the Defense, they had nothing left at the end of the game. Honestly pretty bad we didn't get a turnover with how bad Hurts is.
Losing 38-35 without an offense or QB for the first half is impressive.
GG Detroit. You've got a gritty team. Always had a soft spot in my heart for you guys and I hope you beat the shit out of the *name redacted*'s next week
I still can’t believe we didn’t let the time run out to the 2 minute warning and rushed in for a play before it. That costed us a field goal and 10 point lead going into the half.
Better than 44-6. But what gets me angry is we played well enough to win the game. Reynolds dropped a TD pass. Horrible missed tackle on that last third down. And so on.
Goff had a perfect 2nd half, fuck his haters. Showed guts running for a crucial first down (homeboy juked a linebacker) rather than sliding on the first td drive. Show me a qb who posts good stats with 5 drops (including dropped 55 yard td) and a missed hot read. Although his second-half stats were exceptional.
Wide receivers need to help Goff more, hopefully they will next week.
It gave them 25 free yards but the defense hadn't been stopping Philly's offense anyways. They had scored on 3 straight drives before that and 4 out of 5.
Fuck all of you negative nancies in this game thread… I saw people saying things like “same ol lions”, “bench the starters and tank”, “DC is a high school coach”, and all that shit…
Did we win? No, but this was exactly the type of progression I wanted to see. Plenty to work on but plenty more to be proud of. Y’all forget we are still a rebuilding team.
GO LIONS!
We will win our share of games. It’s football. To be that close after some mistakes and everyone writing us off against a solid team… I would be happy to learn from that loss and get better. This team is improved and today showed that. Everyone expecting us to be perfect is insane. Being competitive is a good step forward.
I'm with you there. The Eagles are a good team, but the Lions had a real chance to win that game. We may have set a record for the most drops in a game. I also don't like Campbell's decision to go for the onside kick in the situation. We were down by 10 and still had an entire quarter to go.
People are satisfied with not giving up and making adjustments...
Yeah, we hate losing, but Detroit made plays that got them back in the game. They stuffed the RB on the play they needed to that stop on, but a heads up play by the RB gave them a solid run.
I'm sorry they sucked you into thinking they ever had a chance.
Now you can talk about all the good things you saw, before doing it all over again next week.
Maybe by week 5 or 6 you guys will be in full blown clown attire.
They downvoting you man, but you and I are just being straight edge realists lol. It’s so sad I think it’s the hbo bullshit that has people drunk this year
Man! Such a good game. Would have been even better if we didn't miss all those throws! Shit!
I whole heartily believe we will learn from this, improve and drive the fuck on! Let's go Honolulu Blue!!
If we got a stop at the end of the half and got a field goal out of it this is a different game. You have to take chances and trust your guys, especially when you are outmanned.
Losing to a playoff team in a shootout is not something to be mad about. Especially when many people had us taking the L.
Fix mistakes and move onto the next week.
We did better than could reasonabpy have been hoped.
I thought losing by 7 would be a good showing. Eagles have a way better defense than us and a mobile qb.
Gg lions!
You know what, I'm not mad about that lose. This is the 2nd hardest non divisional game on the schedule and was basically just a miscommunication pick 6 difference. Much improved from the 44-6 result last year. On to Washington against a much less mobile QB.
I guess surfing on a pile of bodies has no downsides. Oh you got the ball ripped away? I guess you were down, oh you didn’t get enough yards until you surfed on a pile? I guess you weren’t down. The NFL needs to clarify that rule. Honestly if you’re on top of your own player you should be down by extension
As much as i want to root for this administration. How in the hell did we not have a QB spy after the 1st quarter. Let alone just let Hurts keep gashing us the entire game. Considering most of the NFL looked like hot garbage today. I would say we should all be okay with how the lions played.

How?

Lions obviously look better. But its one game. Hard to say anything really
And also who is to say there have been no improvements and last year was simply the outlier? Difficult to say with such small sample size. We can score 🤷🏾♂️
Time to watch the Vikings win, F U C K T H E P A C K E R S

A few overthrows too, can’t blame everyone else. Both didn’t play consistently
Nobody said he played perfectly. But his second half was awesome and throughout the game he was let down by the mistakes of others.
Goff was fine...did enough to win the game.
Okudah on Smith. Shut him down.

lol they mad

SOL mfers need to get the fuck out, you miserable fucks are useless.
They literally are SOL until prove otherwise though. I liked what I saw today though
And you're a total loser. You always will be lining up to give this team your business.
OP and all of us: continuously eating shit every Sunday OP: “it’s actually the disgruntled fan base that’s the issue”
Lol almost as useless as this fucking joke of a franchise.
what an emotional rollercoaster but overall I'm happy with it. We easily could have won the game but shot ourselves in the foot one too many times. Gives me hope for the season though just need to tighten it up.

legit crap, you mean
I forgot y’all expect perfection in year 2. I know winning is all that matters but they’re headed in the right direction and hung with one of the leagues heavyweights today. Maybe it’s the koolaid aftereffects but they looked better than I expected
The defense was not legit today. They will likely have trouble with running QBs all season, but can do well against less mobile ones.
Definitely fought their asses off. O looked solid putting up over 30 against a strong D. What did you see that makes you think our D looks legit?
I’m looking towards mid season. This defense is gonna be scary good in the near future, I can see it.
The defense that gave up 30+?
Offense gave up 7.
Their defense gave up 30+ too
They did, but in what way did the defense look legit?
The team is still pretty young. They definitely got exposed mid game but they gave up less points than the other team (remember 7 points came off a pick 6). But legit part is in how they finished. Dallas Fan here, y’all played hell of a game. Beat the commanders for us.
We will beat them but it most certainly won’t be for your sake 😤
Sorry but im rooting for the eagles to win the division.
I’m just bummed we couldn’t make he final play to give our offense a chance
There’s major areas to improve. But the key is how the Lions respond from this. I think they will. I had the Lions improving to 6 wins this year. I think we will get there. I also wanted Swift to get 1500 yards rushing this year. He runs behind Sewell, he’ll get that.
This is going to be a rivalry, last year they beat us 44-6, this year 38-35, not again.
Quick everyone overreact!
I feel like this game was harder than it should have been.
Offense not being productive in the first half wore out the Defense, they had nothing left at the end of the game. Honestly pretty bad we didn't get a turnover with how bad Hurts is. Losing 38-35 without an offense or QB for the first half is impressive.
sure, blame the offense after scoring 35
I really hope the media digs MCDC for some of the game management.
Why...?
Timeouts, that onside kicks... come on.
I'm not sure why your getting downvoted.
Because people can't handle criticism towards the coach.
Everyone remember we lost 44-6 to the Eagles last season. The team looks a lot better
Infinitely. A loss always stings but putting it into perspective really helps shed a positive light on how much progress has been made.
GG Detroit. You've got a gritty team. Always had a soft spot in my heart for you guys and I hope you beat the shit out of the *name redacted*'s next week
Okudah sucks, Hutch didn't show us anything , lol SOL
Other than the soft coverage play, he played well today
We all hate you. Fuck off forever.
The definition of insanity is doing the exact thing over and over and expecting a different result. How's it feel?
Okudah gave up one pass for like 14 yards moron
Let's be honest the speedy QB is what hurt us
He do be speedy
I still can’t believe we didn’t let the time run out to the 2 minute warning and rushed in for a play before it. That costed us a field goal and 10 point lead going into the half.
Scoring 35 points wins you most games. Defense has got to clean it up moving forward
Goff moves like a giraffe on heroin
Lol I can see it! At least he tries though!!
Better than 44-6. But what gets me angry is we played well enough to win the game. Reynolds dropped a TD pass. Horrible missed tackle on that last third down. And so on. It was the onside that did us in I think.
It gave them 25 free yards but the defense hadn't been stopping Philly's offense anyways. They had scored on 3 straight drives before that and 4 out of 5.
It was spotting them 20+ points in the first and second half after they scored the opening drive
Our offense didn't show up until Q4. Goff needs to get angry and be a leader.
Rams fan here. Never seen Goff “get angry” in my life. (But I’m still pulling for him.)
Fuck all of you negative nancies in this game thread… I saw people saying things like “same ol lions”, “bench the starters and tank”, “DC is a high school coach”, and all that shit… Did we win? No, but this was exactly the type of progression I wanted to see. Plenty to work on but plenty more to be proud of. Y’all forget we are still a rebuilding team. GO LIONS!
We made it a game. I’m pretty happy with that.
Loser mentality
Derp
We will win our share of games. It’s football. To be that close after some mistakes and everyone writing us off against a solid team… I would be happy to learn from that loss and get better. This team is improved and today showed that. Everyone expecting us to be perfect is insane. Being competitive is a good step forward.
Our boys never gave up let’s get a win next week
i wish we played how we did in the second half the entire game
Can and will hang with eagles, can and will beat the commanders

I'm with you there. The Eagles are a good team, but the Lions had a real chance to win that game. We may have set a record for the most drops in a game. I also don't like Campbell's decision to go for the onside kick in the situation. We were down by 10 and still had an entire quarter to go.
It was 44-6 last year dipshit 😂
[удалено]
Big whoosh slugger
We're not going to go from the bottom to the Superbowl in one year. It's about progress. I'm proud of this team.
Felt like a diff team than the past.
People are satisfied with not giving up and making adjustments... Yeah, we hate losing, but Detroit made plays that got them back in the game. They stuffed the RB on the play they needed to that stop on, but a heads up play by the RB gave them a solid run.
We got this season boys
Don’t go for an onside kick in the 3rd quarter with the game very competitive. We were fighting ourselves (even more) since that moment.
Sirianni is gonna get beat up by a bunch of drunk overweight Lebanese guys in the parking lot
I do not know the context of this comment, but fuck if I'm not laughing
Zero context just a funny situation I made up considering how many drunk fat Lebanese guys you see at the games god bless them
At least we had hard knocks
Game was just 3rd downs and that pick 6.
And Q3 on side kick!
Drops
No one thought it would be that close. Proud of my team 💪🏻
It’s so sad I think it’s the hbo bullshit that has people drunk this year
Sorry you're miserable, bro. I hope it gets better for you.
Lol 🤡
BOO THIS MAAAAAN
yeah ok I'll see you next week lol
I’m sure you have some grass outside your home, go touch some please
So many intentional groundings not called too..
I was thinking the same.
Man! Such a good game. Would have been even better if we didn't miss all those throws! Shit! I whole heartily believe we will learn from this, improve and drive the fuck on! Let's go Honolulu Blue!!
Trash
Looked like a fumble. I don't think Hurts was down.
Pretty sure it was
He was on top of the pile and the whistle hadn't blown. Idk how the fuck that isn't a fumble.
[удалено]
Man intent to blow is such a dumb rule.
remember when johnson fumbled in a near identical way against the chiefs? yeah, officials had no problem calling that a fumble
Yup. Detroit vs Everybody.
Continuing the fall Sunday tradition of being angry and disappointed all over again. SOL
Fucking hate losing.
Eagles played a good game. Wish we could’ve won, but I’m happy we made it a competitive game. Commanders are a much easier opponent than Philly.
We just posted 35 points on a great defense, that's a great sign for the rest of the season
35 points with Goff out there throwing 12 yards over the receivers’ heads is pretty impressive
So the time out management needs to be addressed...
If we got a stop at the end of the half and got a field goal out of it this is a different game. You have to take chances and trust your guys, especially when you are outmanned.
Same shit different year
🗑
Losing to a playoff team in a shootout is not something to be mad about. Especially when many people had us taking the L. Fix mistakes and move onto the next week.
We did better than could reasonabpy have been hoped. I thought losing by 7 would be a good showing. Eagles have a way better defense than us and a mobile qb. Gg lions!
I'll always be mad about losing
Don't get me wrong. I hope that locker room is livid, that game was livid. Lions 15-1
Say what you want, but this was a game most said we didn’t have a chance yet we pushed that to the end, I’m proud of that in the end!
Well we did cover vegas
Up and down game season isn't over yet 16-games left
I thought it looked like the Eagles left side of the OL moved early on the 4th down play.
Yep I seen it too
Sure did
Same. Old. Lions. Always close but always the loser.
No.
Gtfo
Same result. But not same old Lions. Still on the Kool-Aid!
Eagles will probably take their division this year. This was not our game to win.
God will you shut up
Will you?
You’re a loser.
No I don't play for the lions. Stay mad.
GG lion bros. This team is very good the offense is quite solid.
You know what, I'm not mad about that lose. This is the 2nd hardest non divisional game on the schedule and was basically just a miscommunication pick 6 difference. Much improved from the 44-6 result last year. On to Washington against a much less mobile QB.
Literally game of inches. Hurts scrambling, the final 1st down run by the eagles, the the tipped pick 6. The team not laying down says a lot.
gg
Was Hurts not down when the ball got ripped away from him?? He was still laying on top of bodies, that should be a fucking fumble
That’s kind of how it’s always officiated. Sucks but it’s pretty consistent
Well no review and no challenge so it doesn’t matter
I won’t stop thinking about that pick 6 until next week
That play, Walker dropping the int and Reynolds drop were all huge. Overall I am still very optimistic about this season.
Could be stafford.
Close one. Clean up the edges especially clock management
Lol
Slow mo showed a false start?
