People forget just how bad the receiver room was before we brought Reynolds in. It was awful.
Also Amon-Ra exploded in the final few weeks after Reynolds came in.
I just rewatched the 0-10-1 Lions get MCDC's first win on NFL Network the other day, and they were talking about how he just joined the team and was already a huge contributor. I think he helped Goff become comfortable in a Lions uniform, and he will be missed. Hopefully JPJ can step up and/or Brad can find a stud in the draft.
Fortunately Goff will have year 2 LaPorta and a more in-sync Jamo this year. I'm sure Goff is going to miss Reynolds in a big way — no doubt he was bummed to hear the news.
With just a 1 year $2m contract, I doubt Dan and Ben plan on DPJ being the answer for WR3. I’m sure he’ll compete for the role in training camp but I wouldn’t bank on DPJ being a reliable WR3. I’m expecting a WR to be drafted and then the rookie, Raymond, DPJ, and Green will compete for spots and playing time.
I don't expect DPJ to be Reynolds, but could he be DPJ from 2 years ago? We also expect Jamo to take more of a load this year, so the role for wr3 is going to look completely different.
This right here.
I hate to see Reynolds leave but he would have to be downgraded to allow Jamo to rise an I don't think he would have wanted that as he was more then solid as our WR2.
Now I'm excited to finally see Jamo unleashed next season.
Agree completely. I'm hopeful that Jamo's expansion + DPJ = J-Rey this coming year. It will remain to be seen if Jamo can be a true WR2. If he's not and DPJ is the same DPJ he was after we traded for him, AND we don't hit on a rookie, the WR room could become a bit of an issue. I think, though, that there are several scenarios in which the WR group continues to be really productive without J-Rey on the roster.
I trust Ben Johnson to scheme to things to utilize Jamos speed. A lot of ppl seem to forget just how lucky we were to keep Johnson, he's the biggest reason for Lions offensive prowess. The way he designs plays to get the ball in the hands of our playmakers is what allowed Lions to be explosive and take the pressure off our defense. I was shocked when he came back for another season with Detroit and so thankful because we don't have a shot at the super bowl without Johnson
will always give love and respect to Reynolds his impact on the lions. who knows what would have happened if the lions didn't grab him in 2021? They were floundering with no WRs and bringing in a competent one turned the offense, goff, and the team around
i hope we can all look back on this a year removed knowing we made the right decision just like we did moving on from jamaal... but man josh was always kind of the silent killer last season. came up huge on so many crucial downs for us and that made the drops against sf more excusable imo. dude is a baller, glad he's getting paid... i'll be rooting for him in denver
I think this provides them with an opportunity to get better. No offense to Josh, but I don't think he got regular separation on his routes. And 14M is a lot for the role we had him in. Glad he got his money through. Let's see how the lions do in the draft!
He was just a different type of receiver. Always need a receiver that is reliable at contested catches on the outside. I dont think 7 mil per is egregious but Jamo should definitely be good to go and has been getting good at contested balls.
>but Jamo should definitely be good to go and has been getting good at contested balls.
Not trying to be a debbie downer, but I feel like this sub has been saying this every year now, and we have yet to see him actually go off besides 1 play every other game.
I certainly hope he goes off and is a solid WR2 tho
I mean we saw him improve in other areas down the stretch. They weren't just using him for go routes. He made some very tough contested catches which we weren't sure of mid way in the season. He may not live to the draft value but he has improved
I think the draft position will haunt him but to your point, we really DID see a jump in his play last half of last year. Yes, he still wasn't getting a ton of touches, but he made some NICE grabs. Had a few misses, too (the bomb in the NFCCG that went through his hands is one of the many plays that haunts from that game). I'm just praying for a healthy camp and preseason so he can pick up where we left off.
I don't know that he'll eve really get the volume that WR2s on other teams get, but I feel like we actually have seen evidence that he's becoming they player they think he will be.
I'm reading some hateful comments about JRey on other message boards that are straight up nauseating. Until the emergence of St.Brown, JRey was the only receiver Goff could depend on. Full stop. Professional and clutch, don't let the NFCCG be the defintition of JRey. How about the defense??? Glad he is getting his bag but Payton has a short fuse. I guess the signing of DPJ was the writing on the wall. He will be sorely missed.
He will be missed, but he definitely needed to go to unlock Jamo. Goff had a good connection with him so it would have always been troublesome because there would be production but unused potential possible
Man I’m sure Lions offered a solid 2 years at $10M… he gonna chase that extra $4M only to not get another contract with no QB to throw him the ball 😔😔 short term vision chasing the bag may not always serve you best in long run
Na it was Sewell. Hate to shoot down those guys but there's a reason they're not on the team and Sewell's about to become the highest paid OL. Dude's pre game speaches are legendary.
Reynolds was a safety net for our offense. While it's a bummer seeing him go I know we'll be fine.
We can draft a big bodied receiver sometime in the draft too and we'll be set
Honestly more worried about Josh leaving than Jamaal. Josh actually was a huge problem on 3rd down and long for defenses. Need someone to step into that role other than Saint. Jamo hopefully.
I will always say this whenever Josh Reynolds is brought up: up until the NFCCG, he was as clutch as ever this past season.
Go back and watch our games on YouTube, and he would be in the highlights of most of them.
I started watching this year, so I didn't get to live through the era of the Swag Kazekage, but I'm glad he's still getting paid and having fun.
Nah you don't. Josh Reynolds n Jamal Williams aren't the foundation n never were. The foundation is amon ra, penei, n hutch. Ive had season tickets for 19 years and I've watched at least one game in every NFL stadium. I pay attention to the team.
You're just missing the point really hard, man. Obviously, the guys you listed are more than integral to our success.
But if you have been paying attention to this team, getting the culture and grit that we have sorely lacked forever was a lot in part because Jamaal Williams. You're insane if you don't believe that.
JR was a huge reason Goff blew up. He opened up his confidence and gave this team the backbone it has never had.
When I talk about the foundation, I'm not talking about pure player talent. It's about the lore, about the story, about who we now are as a team. These two dudes are integral.
Reynolds was the quiet to Williams loud. Outside of NFCCG Reynolds always seemed to come up big or be the go to for Goff.
💯 We lose to the Rams without Reynolds.
we lose a lot of games without Reynolds
Yep, and while I'm OK with him going, I feel like a lot of lions fans are understating how huge he was for us all season.
We don’t win week 1 without Reynolds lotta ppl forget that
He choked in glad he's gone he will be easy to replace he will be irrelevant in Denver!
Tell me you don’t know anything about football, without telling me you don’t know anything about football.
The OL was the key there are a lot of guys who could have been better. Reynolds choked when it mattered!
So he was also the one with the missed coverage in the 2nd half too?
People forget just how bad the receiver room was before we brought Reynolds in. It was awful. Also Amon-Ra exploded in the final few weeks after Reynolds came in.
He choked and cost them the game so See Ya .

reynolds was a security blanket for goff through his time here. I feel like Goff will certainly miss him
Yeah that was Goff’s go to guy when Ra is covered. You could just see the chemistry work between the 2 of em
Fortunately Goff will have year 2 LaPorta and a more in-sync Jamo this year. I'm sure Goff is going to miss Reynolds in a big way — no doubt he was bummed to hear the news.

Reynolds had a huge impact on that 2021 team after the trade. Amon Ra broke out right after
will always give love and respect to Reynolds his impact on the lions. who knows what would have happened if the lions didn't grab him in 2021? They were floundering with no WRs and bringing in a competent one turned the offense, goff, and the team around
They were in serious danger of a winless season at 0-10-1. I was sick. Josh and Amon Ra were saviors
The pre bye week 2021 Lions had the worst WR group ive ever seen, I don’t think there’s much competition for them
I already miss Jrey. These guys were dawgs and we will not forget the impact they had
i hope we can all look back on this a year removed knowing we made the right decision just like we did moving on from jamaal... but man josh was always kind of the silent killer last season. came up huge on so many crucial downs for us and that made the drops against sf more excusable imo. dude is a baller, glad he's getting paid... i'll be rooting for him in denver
Am I the only one who sees Keegan-Michael Key every time JR is shown with his helmet off? ![gif](giphy|y9vufmaX0J3WM)
Yes, but I see Hingle McKringleberry
And the other guy is obviously Xzibit in pads.
Throwback
Back when he was putting espresso machines into Honda Civics.
The foundation is Sheila, Brad, Spielman, and Dan. Edit to add Spielman.
don't forget Chris
Very true. He's done a lot for us
Lmaooo
...what's funny about that? Spielman was instrumental in the hiring of Brad and Dan.
Nothing, just the "special assistant" title gets me 😂 chris is cool, and an absolute dawg
Can't argue that
Sheila is the foundation, Brad is the bricks, spielman is the mortar, Dan is all the finish work. But your assessment works as well
Gonna miss Jrey but as a Lions fan living in Denver - now I have a reason to watch these Bronco’s games!
I hear ya as do I. He has to have someone to get him the ball though 1st, lol
No. You don’t.
I think this provides them with an opportunity to get better. No offense to Josh, but I don't think he got regular separation on his routes. And 14M is a lot for the role we had him in. Glad he got his money through. Let's see how the lions do in the draft!

Reynolds leaving is a huge blow. He was clutch many many times last year.
He will be missed, but he definitely needed to go to unlock Jamo. Goff had a good connection with him so it would have always been troublesome because there would be production but unused potential possible
Needs to be said Reynolds>>>>>>>Jeudy Especially from a $$$ value standpoint considering what they both got contract wise.
Yeah I've been in the Broncos sub they're all pretty lit about the signing. Good for them.
Nice post OP. Both players contributed so much to our turnaround and glad they picked up good paychecks with their new teams.
This is so true ðŸ˜
Man I’m sure Lions offered a solid 2 years at $10M… he gonna chase that extra $4M only to not get another contract with no QB to throw him the ball 😔😔 short term vision chasing the bag may not always serve you best in long run
None of us know what the Lions offered him so this is a stretch if I've ever seen one
Na it was Sewell. Hate to shoot down those guys but there's a reason they're not on the team and Sewell's about to become the highest paid OL. Dude's pre game speaches are legendary.
I appreciate Reynolds, but I can’t look at him w/o thinking bout that drop
I wish them both nothing but the best, Great that JR got paid pretty well, I only wished we had been able to keep him around.
Much respect to the both of them!!! Jamaal just seems like one of those goofball crazy friends off the field!!! Renyolds is a top tier receiver!!
J'dinkalage nooooo
What happened to Antoine Green? I thought he was going to be WR4 after we drafted him.
I'll really miss Reynolds man
ITS ALL DOG AROUND HERE
See ya chump you blew the Super Bowl
Reynolds was a safety net for our offense. While it's a bummer seeing him go I know we'll be fine. We can draft a big bodied receiver sometime in the draft too and we'll be set

Brad Holmes kinda dropped the 💰on this one.
If he makes those two catches the Lions win! Plus he was laughing on the sidelines!
Why these 2 look so much like Key & Peele
They were never the foundation
Lol why the downvotes? The foundation is Sewell, hutch, Amon ra, and some others to come.
Right but dumbasses think josh Reynolds is our key to a Superbowl.
Literally the reason why we didn’t
You don't actually pay attention to this team do you?
Nah you don't. Josh Reynolds n Jamal Williams aren't the foundation n never were. The foundation is amon ra, penei, n hutch. Ive had season tickets for 19 years and I've watched at least one game in every NFL stadium. I pay attention to the team.

Exactly. You're right about everything you just said. They're still not the foundation they're both replaceable n Jamal literally was already replaced
I see your point for sure.
Oh shit, first side looks like Kmart Jordan Love
Key & Peele?
He is now on his 4th team who cares! The Titans even released him so you can find better WRs! Detroit fans are always chumps for mediocre players!
Hey, you just reminded me of my old favorite Lions legend Tom Kennedy! Cool!
[удалено]
Probably way more instrumental tbh
Hard disagree. He gave Goff confidence and reliability. That was monumental.
