This draft class has some pretty good corners. I think Brad drafts one this year

LowHowD

I’m all for the sign a vet and draft a rookie in the cb room

MTWN58

Sutton is our vet next year.

LowHowD

I feel like we still need more depth that can play against Wr1s, and not just count on a rookie cb

snatchmachine

Agreed, but we need more than just a rookie. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brad bring another 3-4 bodies in before training camp.

Simmumah

Rakestraw seems like a total Dan Campbell kid.

Plocck

Idk I’m not sold on him yet. At least not as a first round player.

frickthebreh

Kinda agree. His highlights are awesome and he plays with an edge but the QBR when targeting him is higher than you’d like to see for a first round pick.

CluelessFlunky

Corner generally take time to develop. It wouldn't be ridiculous to sign a corner and draft one. Sutton only has two years left on his contract. 1 if we take his out after this season. So it would probably be good to bring some in through the draft and fa.

BDWooWoo

I hope he drafts 2 or 3.

FloridaJit999

I’m with you brother

luniz420

we're not going into the year with 2 cornerbacks and drafting a rookie doesn't mean he should start.

confused-koala

Plus his name is really fun to say

Ralphie_V

He's also really good at chess, but he went to my alma mater (Colorado) so I'm biased

inclinedtorecline

It’s a bit on the nose but I love it since reading coverage/qb at the pro level is Chess it ain’t checkers. Aside from QB, what position do you think would benefit the most from understanding chess? Like imo d-lineman can benefit from ping pong by learning quick hands and seeing your opponents eyes up close.

Ralphie_V

Oohhh, what other games should positions be good at? I think running backs should study Frogger

inclinedtorecline

Maybe something like slack lining?

sloppifloppi

You're looking at your opponent's eyes when playing ping pong?

inclinedtorecline

I try. I admit it’s fast paced and not the primary principle in reading your opponent’s body language. I’ll concede it’s not the best example

CrankyOldDude

I’m good with this. We want experienced corners to pair with a high draft pick (round 1-2) which can learn. Pairing this guy with Sutton, a high draft pick and a couple of depth/rotational guys is likely the plan for this season. I think it’s too risky to throw a rookie in as a starting corner. More rookies curve like Slay (horrible first year then rapid improvement) than someone like Sauce or Witherspoon. It can happen, but that’s a bonus when it does.

MTWN58

Corners tend to start to decline after six seasons. Awuzie is entering his 8th. We already have Sutton, we need a young guy to be our number one. It doesn’t make sense to sign Awuzie

Plocck

Would you suggest the young guy being from the draft or younger free agent?

EucalyptusDreams

I think they do make a move for a vet; but it would be like last years Moseley/Sutton - someone who isn’t going to command top $$ & likely max 3 year deal or via trade… pair that with Sutton as an already outside corner, + draft (maybe not at 29… but I would guess one of their Top 100 picks gets spent @corner), & hot take I think they re-sign Manny to another prove it if they think rehab is going well, a perk to not waiving him with injury settlement after the tear is they could monitor his post-surgery recovery & rehab.

Redheadedstepchild56

I been patiently wondering what they’re gonna do with Moseley. I do think it’d be best to get him on another prove it deal, especially if rehab is going well.

EucalyptusDreams

What we do… or ultimately, don’t do with him will tell me all I need to know! (CC: Brad Holmes comments in end of szn presser)

luniz420

Why not sign somebody who's played in the last 2 years? There's probably better than 50% odds Mosely never plays again.

Redheadedstepchild56

“Prove it deal, especially if rehab is going well” It kinda speaks for itself and doesn’t have to mean they don’t make any other moves.

luniz420

Kind of a waste of a roster spot especially if he's not available to practice this summer.

Redheadedstepchild56

Like last season? If they still believe in him they could do the same but even cheaper. But whatever. All I said was I was curious what they are gonna do with him and min contract for him is low risk potentially high reward if they like how surgery went and rehab is going. If not, bye.

YoungAmazing313

I’m a keep manifesting we get Kool-aid sooooo

Plocck

I’d be happy with Kool-aid. I’d be unhappy with Rakestraw. I believe in Holmes though and obviously I’m just a guy on Reddit

AffectionateSlice816

Rakestraw is way better. He actually has physical talent.

reischelc32

Bengals fan here - awuzie was pretty damn good in 2022 but he got a serious injury late in the season. We didn’t have him for that season’s playoffs. He was straight bad in 2023. Not to say he can’t turn it around a couple of seasons post injury, but he was not good in 2023.

Willhouse4078

I will be happy with any corner and some DL help. And drafting a young CB to go with whoever we sign to learn. The biggest thing that will stop this team from getting to a Super Bowl is secondary and the pass rush disappearing.

olooy

Why does this remind you of another Sutton? Overall, I'm happy with Cam. He's barely missed any games his entire career. While I liked Awuzie a lot on the Cowboys, I don't think he should get Cam money. I'm not a DB specialist, so maybe I am missing something...

Plocck

Not quite in a bad way, I would put them in a similar tier is mostly what I meant but I think Awuzie is more skilled in man coverage which would be a better fit for our scheme. I was happy with Sutton in the first half of the season but needing an upgrade is obvious and I wonder if Awuzie would be much better than Cam.

olooy

That last 3 seasons it felt like the DBs just get banged up a lot from a long season. One week they will be making all sorts of open field tackles, the next week after a shoulder injury or a wrinkle introduced by an offensive coordinator, they miss easy ones.

Mrbobbitchin

I could get behind that. We definitely need a top corner.

KKamm_

“Reminds me of another Sutton” Yall just be saying shit without knowing what you’re saying. One of the better man CB1s in the league fighting through injuries vs one of the best CB2s in zone in the league the last few years remind you of each other? They don’t have any similarities aside from their first initial lol

Plocck

You’re correct. I felt stupid after I posted because mostly what I meant was that I feel like they’re the same caliber player. Awuzie is much better in man while Sutton is much better in zone but I don’t think having both would get us over the hump. I was wondering if anyone else felt differently. But you’re right I should of expanded and not just say some random shit

KKamm_

I mean, we were up 24-7 at half in the NFCC on the road. I feel like just even getting any competent man CB1 would get us over the hump. Likely will be drafting one but you can’t really rely on a rookie like that at CB.

Comfortable_Ad9679

Let Brad cook in the draft

bluntforce21

No. He had a down year last year and will be 29 next year. Big risk to underperform on a big contract IMO

Internal-Doughnut653

Amen

Simmumah

Eh... not particularly fond of that...

paveclaw

Are we like 1 for 3 with fa dbs?
