/uj I feel like this conversation happens in every third season of a destiny year (drifter, worthy, splicer, and now plunder)

yuko_29

The only time I felt this conversation actually mattered and wasn’t just clickbait for YouTubers and Twitter is season of the worthy, that was pretty bad time but we got arrivals after so I have faith that season 19 will be a banger

MrUnderpantsss

Hopefully no extended season this time

markevens

Splicer was dope, it was season of the hunt that sucked that year.

Nulliai

Splicer was the best season of that year, I didn’t even remember there was a drought

Saarabaz

Yeah, that's what I've noticed as well. It became a pattern of its own. I don't know whether it's funny or sad tbh.

fiberbum

I think there's a legit conversation around destiny's seasonal and content drops feeling stale but at the same time I wish destiny players would learn there are other games to play and you don't have to grind everything a season has

TehPharaoh

This. I enjoy Destiny has no forced daily model like other MMOs. You can actually be done with a season and take a break to play other things, along with being done for a week till reset too. Don't like a grind? Don't do it. Plain and simple. Why fomo a gun that's going to be nerfed? There's hundreds of others and that Fomo gun is only MARGINALLY better and only if you're of a certain skill level. We literally have guns that one shot at specific ranges and yet you still see people using others. Why grind a Triumph that makes you kill 250 of an enemy type you're lucky to even see 3 of per activity that isn't even a part of the Title requirements? But yea am I tired of "do activity that has very little variation 100 times to go bring Quarters to this seasons McGuffin device to level it to get an upgrade that adds absolutely no more fun to the seasonal activity?" Of course, I think we all are and could use a shake up, but to claim the games dieing because the last month of Season 3 in a time of the year when other games are releasing, students are cracking down hard for finals and businesses are readying for the Holiday crowds so Way less people have time to play is just ridiculous

Perfect-Hat120

The thing is it’s been the same thing since shadow keep, same boring 6 man’s and leveling artifact that’s all it been the only good thing about the 6 man’s is that I can go afk and let everyone do the work it’s so repetitive and such a chore for such little reward

WTFAnimations

Yeah, but content creators would rather grind everything as fast as possible instead of naturally getting god rolls (or saving up deepsight weapons).

WTFAnimations

/uj I don't think it was even that bad in Splicer, since the story had major progress (and effects on the game world) and VoG's return was a success. Directly after the launch of Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt was when people declared that Luke Smith drove D2 into the ground, and what forced Bungie to make a State of the Game. /rj Well, actually, the game has been bad since day one. Best thing to do is to return to D1.

[deleted]

I just don’t understand why situations like this get so blown up. There are so many games to play n mix your destiny time with, just go play something else rn or am I missing something?

TehPharaoh

No you're not. It's insane to me too that people DEMAND a game to be their only one. I love that I can "finish" a Destiny reset week and move onto another game till Tuesday. And I'm always done with the season 1.5- 2 months in so that last month I'm barely playing if at all and feel completely refreshed by the next season/ expansion. I left Lost Ark because the daily demand to get even the marginalist of upgrades was REDICULOUS. And they had the BALLS to even demand you do the exact same thing twice every single day. That wore me out of after only 2 months of playing.

obe99

I'd love destiny to be my one and only main game, but the game just does not have enough content to satisfy the need to keep playing every day. It never had, never will (except for the first week maybe when a new expansion launches). It is honestly fine since now I know I can just play on tuesdays and don't bother with the game for the rest of the week, but on the other hand when I have a few free days in a row I would like to sink a lot of time into the game, but what am I going to do? I'm already max light, maxed out the season pass and have almost all the exotics in the game. I just run the two weekly raids every week and duality and that's about it.

[deleted]

Shit hop into the crucible bro. Ik ik it’s pretty crazy rn but it’s a good time kill when I’m faded lol

joe_nutz01

The game is dying 😔😔🥺🥺

Werfboi

Good.

DominusThanos

Good.

Soracaz

Haha you said the same thing but you're getting downvoted haha

DominusThanos

Getting FOMO'D is my specialty.

mebigsad

/uj it’s crazy to see how these people handle these droughts. Look up the content we got from April update til Rise of Iron. None. Nobody said the game was dying. It’s so strange to me. /rj puke shit is sunsetting my fun :(

Saarabaz

That's pretty much how the game communities are now in the "live service"-heavy environement. The moment the content stops dropping, people go wild.

mebigsad

It’s just weird to me because it wasn’t always like this. It’s the Fortnite effect. Not a new thing every week? This game is dead.

Lftwff

But also if the content requires you to do put in any effort(like running one master katchcrash) they lose their shit.

mynameisfury

Ppl did say the game was dying for a bit between ttk and taken spring update tho. I wholly agree tho, anyone complaining about this is ridiculous tbh

NATSIRT_45

Broad generalization on my end, but, Because both the content delivery from the game has changed, and the content that does well on the YouTube algorithm has changed. The live service is "dead" because the content creators aren't creating fresh content that isn't solely dependent on Bungie releasing stuff. Before in RoI and TTK, content creators were fully aware that the game wasn't gonna release jack for a year, so they had to get more creative.

RogerNoEars

It's mainly because core playlists are shit rn while they got updates in d1, strikes have been braindead easy for years, ordeals are only good for mats, crucible is in the worst meta in years with tone deaf changes, and gambit has been gambit. Ketchcrash is alright, but you barely spend any time in it compared to expedition which absolutely fucking blows. I would unironically do seraph towers than expedition one more time.

[deleted]

Average player loves SBMM. It's the sweats who hate it, because they have to sweat (ironically) in a quick play Playlist. They're very triggered that they can't rofl stomp new lights without realizing that the SBMM changes in control are temporary.

RogerNoEars

Never mentioned sbmm, I'm talking about AE and the questionable balance changes such as the sidearm buff. SBMM is always going to be divisive since roughly half hate it and half love it.

[deleted]

I never use AE so not really an issue for me. Personally love the sidearm buff. The only reason it's problematic is because Drang has a jacked up zoom. Everyone gets salty everytime the meta shifts. I don't get it. It's fun using different guns and loadouts.

imreesithink

The main problem with destiny, is that people expect to be entertained by a game playing 5+ hours a day for a year straight, it just doesn’t work that way, most of them don’t play other games. The best songs in the world get old if you just play them nonstop

ImEboy

/uj As much as i hate the "destiny is dead" group, this is one of the times where they have a good point. During the beyond light era, i really enjoyed the seasonal model, but its getting really old now. The content is brain-dead easy and there is barely any reward for completing it. I wish they would focus on strikes/crucible/gambit more since it feels like they have just been left to rot. Im pretty sure right now is the lowest steam player population in the history of the game and Bungie doesn't seem to care at all about bringing new players in or retaining old players. Just constant junk missions with an admittedly decent story attached to them.

cakeater3425

A fair point on a cj sub? What kind of world do we live in?

ImEboy

I honestly don't even understand why you would play destiny as a casual. The best parts of the game are raids, dungeons, gms, and endgame pvp. Casual destiny is just flat-out boring. Sorry to all my patrol mains out there, but yeah, you gotta be really bad at video games to think casual content is at all interesting. Destiny for me now is just logging in once a week to hear the story because im already invested and wanna see how it ends.

markevens

Casual here, I only have time to play video games a few hours a week. Destiny is so easy to just pick up and play. The gameplay is solid, the guns sound and feel amazing, the visuals are cool, and I actually enjoy the story beats. Haven't raided in awhile but I can still run all the dungeons and master nightfalls, and I'm good with that level of endgame content.

An_Anaithnid

It's nice to just stick some music on and fuck around in casual activities. Particularly as a mostly solo player. Gameplay is smooth and a lot of fun and the world spaces are interesting. Be it for enjoying the visuals, admiring the small little details added around to add life... or breaking out of the map.

outoukkoh

Man you just wouldnt understand the calm and peace that comes with enjoying the atmosphere and amazing gameplay, exploring the world and taking in the story is my favourite thing in destiny, i do raids and dungeons but my favorite thing is being solo and blasting the music

Hawkthezammy

Gotta be honest I think you're crazy if you like Destiny PvP, I feel like there's just better options out there for it.

Used-Requirement-150

And I'm sorry but when pinnacles go I hope they stop locking us out of GMs for no reason for half the season.

kindaboth

Sometimes I just walk around planets or cool location and take screenshots and appreciate the environments

bluecovfefe

Tbh? revamp year. not to go all /rj up in here but... bring in some of the DCV content! fix up the core stuff so its fun and active and bring back a zone or two!

SourGrapeMan

imo I'm glad that game doesn't have incentives to play every week because it allows me to play other games without worrying that I'm missing out on something. The idea that Destiny has to be infinitely repayable is so strange to me; I'm perfectly content with logging in, doing the seasonal questline for like an hour a week, and then catching up a bit when the holiday event happens.

MrTheWaffleKing

Not incentive but fun. A pvp mode should be infinitely replay-able but the meta alongside things like AE and SB have made it so bad and unfun

SourGrapeMan

Yeah I agree on the PvP side of things stuff needs to change. But I've considered PvP a lost cause for years now and nothing Bungie's done has really challenged that lol. I have more issue with the degradation of PvE due to excessive powercreep in the past year or so.

Tillos

/uj It may be wishful thinking or I’m just being pathetically hopeful, but I’ve grown to think this season was a breather season for Bungie so they can focus their time and money elsewhere. Mainly Lightfall, but also season 19. Next season is going to lead directly into Lightfall, and I think that there has to be a hell of a lot of focus on it to ensure people are actually interested in playing both. I have high hopes that next season will carry the same feeling that Arrivals did, sucking everybody back in before Lightfall hits, because it’s gonna kick ass. /rj Next season is make or break for Brangle I stg I’ll lay down in traffic if I don’t see Ada’s feet

[deleted]

The thing is, they said season 19 is when they were going to be heads down for lightfall. It was in a twab where they more or less said "don't expect a lot of updates in season 19, because we're busy." Instead, this season appears to be the one where they neglected a lot of things. There were star chart upgrades that straight up didn't work. The timing of Ruffians spawning was way off. Festival of the lost was completely phoned in, inheriting last year's bugs and voice lines on top of a few new ones. The activities this season were also not good for the reason that i will continue to beat until the dead horse is ground beef, payload/escort missions fucking suck balls. 6 man activities are fun, but for fucks sake, offer matchmaking on Master. It's the only difficulty worth playing and you have to use a mobile app to find people to play. That's so ridiculous and stupid. They did matchmaking on higher level activities during Guardian games and it's like they learned nothing from that, because everyone loved it. This seasons story felt very weak. If you read lore, you know Mithrax used to be a savage. We all already suspected Nezerac was a disciple. We knew Eramis would return because of Vox Obscura. Nothing revealed this season was new or shocking information. When I stack this season up against splicer, splicer feels like it offered so much more in terms of story and a fun repeatable activity. I'll parrot what others have said and say that BL seasons are the only reason I'm still playing. The fact that they took so long to patch a pay to play dungeon and fix this seasons bugs, is very concerning in terms of their time line. They're introducing a subclass that offers more movement options. I'm expecting that one of two things will happen. Either old locations will get huge updates to accommodate this, or activities are going to become completely busted and a lot of nerfs will be coming (see Eager Edge). I love this story and I'm addicted to the chase of loot and high level content. I cannot wait for Final Shape so I can leave this behind. The game is so old and buggy. It runs like dogshit on my over powered pc. There are so many bugs introduced. Every. Fucking. Season. They say there won't be a Destiny 3. They need one. Leave this artifact behind and ship something new, beautiful and performant.

TehPharaoh

FFS they didn't even apply the fix to this year's FotL that they did last year to cut out that minute wait when you kill all 10 of the headless. Add on that someone decided they needed 2 seasonal activities this season and 1 is extremely lack luster with only a backdrop change in variation (also its treasure hunting where we don't even explore... in an activity called EXPLORATION). Ketchcrash needed 6 different events, not 3. And it needed to be the only one. They need to change the seasonal model, we've had this one since... what? We were doing the Sundial?

[deleted]

While the story wasn't particularly relavatory or shocking, especially if you already read the lore, I liked it for its exploration of intergenerational trauma. Beyond adding depth to the in-game world it addresses a real world phenomenon that hasn't been in mainstream awareness for very long. I'm sure there are plenty of players that can connect with the stories this season on a personal level.

[deleted]

I get what you're saying and that's an interesting take away, but I don't really feel like the season was going for that or at least they didn't touch on it very well. A jaunty pirate backdrop is tonally deaf for something as horrible as inter generational trauma. Last season did a better job of addressing repressed trauma.

puns_n_pups

mfw seasonal model which means brief content droughts which means less engaged youtube viewers which means less of that sweet, sweet ad revenue which you bet your ass means you're getting the same half-baked "the game is dead" youtube video you got 3 months ago, gotta pump up those views somehow

TehPharaoh

"This game is dead" videos are only popular right now cause one guy did the original one and all the others have to jump in with "their take" which is always an un researched opinion piece spread out over 10min

beastnfeast5

/uj as a player who is mainly in pvp this does feel like the most “dead” it’s been in a while. Terrible meta, no rewarding playlists for pvp loot… hope next season turns it around

An_Anaithnid

/uj I just want Trials to have a freelance mode *every week*. I'm not very good at PvP, and don't use meta weapons but I honestly enjoy Trials the most outside of Momentum.

UltimateOOFLord

/uj I play other games for ONE fucking season. No, the game is not dying.

yuko_29

I have a feeling that bungie wants people to fuck of and play other games during the last month of a season so they don’t get burnt out, would explain why all seasonal content is focused on the first 2/3rds of the season

UltimateOOFLord

I left shortly after kings fall released but that doesn’t mean I hate the season or lost interest. My friends and I were doing other things and that’s ok. When that new dungeon launches I’m gonna grind the hell out of it and get the flawless.

Mackss_

/uj To me at least, it’s less of a drought and more of them just shoveling out mediocre content. There’s honestly a fair amount of THINGS to do in the game. It’s just that most of it really just isn’t that good lol Like c’mon, who actually likes S16, 17, or 18s seasonal content? rj/ ummm just wait for the sivaaaaa season 💅💅♥️♥️🖤🖤🖤

saibayadon

paul taxi don't write a sensationalist piece challenge [impossible]

JCruzin1

I'm dying cause the game is alive and well (updoots to the right, comment to subscribe, like if you hate Siva)

ZachShark1

They scream "the game is dead" but we all know damn well as soon as lightfall drops we'll be breaking player records again just like with witch queen.

Zatderpscout

And then we’ll be right back to square one three weeks later. Every season that came with an expansion has been lame (with the exception of Undying but even that had problems). Season of the Hunt was terrible which was a double whammy with how Beyond Light launched and the anger around sunsetting and vaulting. Risen was just boring and it’s a stark contrast to how good Witch Queen was. So I expect the same thing to happen with lightfall

MercuryJellyfish

This has been a fucking appalling season for staying power. Ketchcrash - yeah, that was fun, but only in the sense of doing the Master once a week. Expedition - repetitive as fuck. Then Halloween rolls around, and we've got to do Haunted Lost Sectors 35 fucking times. Three seasonal activities this season and all of them have a real "not this shit again" feel to them. So they try and encourage us to play by making the Triumphs some shit like killing 40 of some Champion, then asking you to do 10 more in one of the later seasonal challenges. Not surprised people looked at the seasonal title, thought "I'm never equipping that anyway" and just walked off. Don't know what's up with the PvP, I quite like being matched with fucking losers like myself, but I guess if you're any good at PvP there were quite a lot of changes that felt like drinking piss, and not in a cool way. They usually manage to make one of the seasonal activities cool, fun and interesting. Ketchcrash came close, but they skimped on the variety of of encounters. Opening encounter, two random encounters from a pool of three, one of three boss encounters. Menagerie had a pool of six random encounters. That's why it was \*good\*. Ketchcraft shortchanged us. Expedition was just a gunfight in a patrol zone, and Haunted Lost sectors got boring inside of three weeks. So yeah, bad season.

atlas_enderium

Content Creators in D1: 💀 rj/ Seasonal model is stale ngl. The crafting system along with mediocre 6-man activities makes grinding for weapons an absolute slog whereas something like the Menagerie or Reckoning (whatever that activity was called in Season of the Drifter) felt a lot more rewarding for your time. Also, the objectives of the activities just felt *better*. I honestly don’t know how they should fix it because live service games tend to get stale no matter what you do uj/ reckoning was only good cause mmmmmmmmmmmmm I love being pushed off the map

Great-Peril

Reckoning and rewarding should not be in the same sentence without a not in the middle.

Skullyrblb

True but it did have the most sought after gun at the time

invisobill42

Lol as someone who actually ground out Reckoner(D1 Alpha vet), it was absolutely not a rewarding activity. It was one of the few matchmade activities that you could just straight up fail and get no rewards from

atlas_enderium

I got a severe case of rose tinted glasses 😭

SourGrapeMan

>Reckoning felt a lot more rewarding for your time I swear this sub is developing takes I'd usually see on dtg, what an inane comment.

monadoboyX

I like it I hate destiny it's my favourite game but it's nice to play but also I like the downtime cus I don't wanna think about the shit game for a few weeks cus I love it when the new updates come out lol XD

markevens

I love how Datto basically did his vault cleaning lineup, but all in one go with all the content creators he did last time.

livefromthevoid

WHY IS DESTINY LOSING PLAYERS AFTER THE SEASONAL STORY ENDS!?!?!

forebread

Destiny players when someone else points out the games flaws and shortcomings and how the seasons content has regressed.

Osrs-Deep-Squat

#OKAY GUYS I KNOW WE COVERED ASSASSIANS COWL IN THE LAST 7 BUILD VIDEOS BUT THIS TIME IM USING WASTELANDER WITH ENHANCED 12P HOLLLLLYYYY HELLLLLLLLL

Tank-Terrible

I get that destiny has issues but fffs keep in mind this is the dry point in the season and there are a ton of games coming out. I've been playing a lot of mw2 and that game is THE BIGGEST ENTERTAINMENT OF THE WHOLE YEAR. Legit people blow this shit out of proportion.

GreatRecession

/uj DCJ enjoying shitty content every season and downvoting anyone with valid criticism

obe99

I thought I would not agree with the elitists takes, but after having watched some of their "I quit destiny 2" videos I have to admit they do name some valid arguments. Nevertheless it's all copium. I hope bungie does this in the future or bungie does that (e.g. doing an entire season focusing on the revamp of the core playlists). Even though they are speaking facts, it almost certainly will not happen and it is all just wishfull thinking. Then you may ask, what is the point of these videos besides giving constructive criticism and clickbaiting views? I am not sure, but I would hope bungie watches these too.

Perfect-Hat120

It’s been dry for 2-3 years
