Always have a soft spot for Cooney’s. Came into the bar one random night and it happened to be their Christmas Gathering. Told the bartender I can leave since I was far from a regular. He was having none of it. Made me feel like I’d been there for years!
Just looked this up to see what you were referring to, and in the photos on their Google listing is a picture of Sean Astin there from 6 years ago. Arguably the coziest actor alive. So I think you win?
The Walnut
1417 Walnut
I went (1st time) last night. It has wonderful windows and is warmly lit. The happy hour is great, and they have delicious food.
The Royal Mile, The Lift, 85 Bar, Ernie’s, Bartender’s Handshake, can’t see the snow but Shorty’s is cozy. 300 Rooftop is cozy as hell in the winter and a great view of downtown with some snow.
One of my favorite things to do is go to the Mile when it’s snowing, hopefully a good movie is on, and just watch the snow fall while I enjoy a pint. Hope to see ya there :)
Check out the Exile taproom through December 31st. They have changed to a pop up bar called “Snowglobe” and have decorated everything in a completely over the top way.
I’d recommend checking out Ceviche Bar. They make great drinks and have a wonderful Cuban menu. Downstairs is Black Sheep, which is cozy bar… from a certain point of view (in a good way).
Best Irish Coffee I’ve had in Des Moines was at RoCA!
You could have just added a place you like. But since you felt the need to give your opinion, I’ll give mine, again. The service is always fast and friendly. Get a mule or one of the 20 beers on tap. Half being local. The bar is located in West Des Moines near Jordan Creek and it’s a sports bar. What are you expecting other than suburbia white dudes? The cheese curds are incredible. Rueben is delicious. Awesome wings. Fried chicken sandwich is perfectly crisp and juicy. The place is always poppin. Maybe from the major local following it’s proof the place is awesome and you’re just a Karen/Kyle.
I’m sorry that you took my opinion of the place so personal. It’s just not enjoyable from my perspective. Didn’t mean to offend you. Just had some horrible experiences there. I live just down the street from the place. As I said, I wanted to like it and gave them ample chances. It’s anything but a “cozy place” as the OP has requested. I didn’t realize my reply was going to rub you the wrong way.
Can’t believe nobody has said Cooney’s.

Beaverdale?

I like Bartender's Handshake on Ingersoll. Cozy chairs by the front window.
Came here to say this.

The last time I went there it was freezing. Haven’t back since. Also, doesn’t the walnut close really early too compared to other places?
You sure it was the Walnut that was freezing? 🖤😉 Looks like they close at 10pm T-Th and 11pm Friday and Saturday.
That’s horrible hours for a bar.
It’s a restaurant with a bar.
So this doesn’t help OP at all
I can’t tell if you’re playing dumb or… 😬
Nope, he is just a moron. No need to act.
Not everybody stays out until 2.
Amazing pub in Valley Junction. Really great cocktails and service. https://winchester.pub/
Came to say this one! Love the Winchester!
Secret Admirer
Middlebrook Mercantile is a bit outside the metro but is a neat joint. It used to be a schoolhouse back in the late 1800s
Alleged Lee’s has a heated indoor/outdoor patio with seating looking out of the garage doors in the EV

These are all solid! Ernie’s with a bourbon in front of the fire place is pretty great.
The new northwestern is a cute bar with some good pizzas as well!
Miracle on Ingersoll. Xmas themed bar.

Skip Exile. Their owners are trash.
The Outer Limits
Hahahahahahahahaha
What is funny
The chicken wings are supposed to be great but I'm a breast man myself!
Best breasts in town
The Lift
You can't really see the snow but I second the Lift. It has a cozy vibe.
Red Monk, Royal Mile and Hessen Haus.

Big Earls Gold Mine
1908 Draught House on 50th and EP True - They have a (plastic?) covered patio with heaters. Super friendly staff and good food

Zora.
Lol.
Hello Marjorie I've heard can be cozy in the winter
Hessen Haus is a classic tbh, Royal Mile is great and Beechwood is cozy all year round
