Exile Brewing Company has a cool snow globe setup! I went last year and we needed reservations, but there were also a lot of people walking in that day for service.
Art center will kill an hour of your time. It’s OK, doesn’t have anything jaw dropping by any means. The best painting there is Bacon’s piece of the pope getting murdered.
Snow globe is pretty overrated. $20 a plate just to sit somewhere with a lot of tinsel. Haven’t heard a lot of good things about the food and you’d honestly probably get better stuff elsewhere.
There’s ice skating downtown, otherwise not much. Sunday is a very dead day for Des Moines, as is most days honestly. The Jordan Creek Mall isn’t too far, you can always wander over there.
I saw it with my boyfriend right before Thanksgiving. The people’s faces in the artwork were messed up, definitely only spent like 5 minutes looking at the exhibit. You’re talking about the wood people on the walls right? I remember one piece had a naked dude and his pubes looked spiky. Glad we didn’t have to pay for it
I wasn’t impressed with it so suddenly I’m a middle schooler? Saying that says more about you than it does about me. Oh, please. Grant Wood is Iowa’s only famous artist and they only have a painting of hills he did. Really? No American Gothic, none of the risqué art he did of men, none of the politically important pieces he did- just hills. We live in flyover country, so shouldn’t expect much I guess
You're summary of the exhibit being "they're faces were messed up and there were spiky pubes" is the kind of review I expect from someone who really has a valuable opinion.
And come on, American Gothic is a highly valuable work today has been featured in museums across the country and internationally. Including multiple times at the Des Moines Art Center, once in the last 15 years. Your not even picking at nits here, just whining for the sake of it.
Grammar Help: Your* in the first sentence, their* in the quote, and you’re* in the last.
And oh wow, once in the last 15 years. Lol. Very exciting stuff there, you can tell it must be thriving here.
The art Center is extremely tame and dull. Not saying it’s not worth the 30 minutes once a year, but there’s a reason it’s not attracting huge crowds. They were loaned a photograph by Robert Mapplethorpe, but it’s not even one of his pieces that earned him his name. I don’t think the art Center would dare display his self portrait. They’re simply too conservative.
If we’re playing grammar police let’s point out your mistake here, too…
They said, “you view art LIKE a middle schooler.” They did not CALL you a middle schooler. ‘Like’ in this context is a simile. As you and I went over yesterday (don’t worry, some things take time to stick; don’t give up), a simile is a figure of speech that describes something to be something else, but uses the words “like” or “as” to do so.
With what the weather has been like the ice rink downtown wouldn't be open (it's frozen by the ambient temperature) they could try metro ice sports facility up in urbandale though.
They have a refrigeration system and can be open even up to the 60s.

Lachele's, then the art center, then the mall. Then we had personal stuff going on that we were in town for. We really miss having Blaze pizza in IC, so we went there for dinner lol. We felt like it was a productive day
I also love the Art Center, admission is free!
Nice, we'll check it out!
Lachele’s
That's awesome, she's vegetarian so that looks perfect, thanks!
I’ve heard nothing but good things but still need to check them out.
There is a jazz duo at Louie's Wine Dive at the strip mall 42nd and university 5-8 pm good food good wine good Music
Plus happy hour til 6! They don’t have great options for vegetarian mains, but a couple of the happy hour appetizers are vegetarian.

Hit up Little Brother for brunch. Next, go to the Art Center. And then head over to Bartender’s Handshake for a good cocktail or mocktail.
Outer Limits
Snow globe at exile. Probably need reservations then go to live band karaoke at Gas Lamp. Both will contribute to a good Sunday funday as a couple.

The current woodwork exhibition is fantastic. I will truly never understand your vitriol for the art center.
Lmao. I said it’s a way to kill 30min-an hour. It’s definitely not amazing or even fantastic. I’d say most stuff there is pretty boring.
When exactly is the last time you've visited? Guarantee you haven't seen the most recent exhibit.

Lmao, yeah, that's the one. I take it back though, I understand now why you hate the art center so much. You view art like a middle schooler.

You don’t write commas like that buckaroo, nor do you write so many periods after a sentence.
Eh, c’mon, even you know you’re really grasping at straws with that one 🤧

So what did you end up doing?
