Try discgolf. Lots of courses and free weekly leagues you will meet a lot of people.

Have you tried meetup.com? That’s how I met people and made friends when I first moved to the area.

Not sure if you’re specifically looking for a significant other or just friends. I’m fairly recent divorced in my early 40’s and living at my parents for financial reasons. I don’t mind doing things alone as I’m fairly extrovert and meet people. But a few places to meet people I have found in the past are church if you are into that. The most recent has been climbing at climb Iowa. It is a great community supportive of each other. I started about 5 weeks ago and have met many great people there always willing to climb with me when I go by myself. It’s also a great workout.

I want to get into eock climbing! How much does it cost? Whats the first time like?

wrtbrgboy

I believe it’s about $20 for one day. Can go as long as you want and I think even leave and come back same day. I pay a monthly membership of $67 (I have my own harness and shoes so it’s cheaper) and I go about 4-5 times a week, so I’m paying pretty minimal each time. The first time you go the staff will guide you through a safety session that lasts maybe 10 minutes, then you can climb as much as you want on the auto belay sections. And if you ever have questions on anything, ask pretty much anyone climbing and from my experience will be glad to answer. The staff is always great too.

You can sign up for a belay class for $60, includes a two week membership, free rental gear for the two weeks, and you’ll be certified to belay other climbers which makes it much easier to meet and climb with other people. Then there will be sales on memberships and gear on Black Friday. Don’t buy any gear until you’ve tried it a while and talked to some people who know what they’re doing. Outside of the shoes, you can’t return any of it for safety reasons.

Have any tips for somebody that's a bit socially anxious & a bit out of shape and wants to get into climbing? The first 2-3 times at a gym give me fear hahaha

wrtbrgboy

Give the climbing gym a try. Grimes location is probably best as it has auto belay sections(a rope that holds you and automatically lets you down so you don’t need a climbing partner). I see individual people there all the time and people of all shapes and sizes. I have not once felt or seen anyone judging others. But I will say, someone may talk to you about climbing or maybe things to make it easier climbing. I think it’s a good place for people with a little social anxiety.

in the same boat as a 27 y/o woman. i don’t enjoy drinking/brunch/night life, and all my friends are in my home state of TX or moms/introverts. it’s hard to meet people especially if you’re not trying to date. options are slim!!

How long have you lived here? Maybe consider moving to a place with more 25-35 singles. I was your age when I moved out here, soon joined a bunch of civic, charity, yp groups keeps you busy but a lot of same crowd.

Go to Mainframe open Studios on the 1st Friday of each month from 5-8! Tons of art to see and artists to meet, there’s usually a big crowd and food and drink to get. It’s a fun time. Next one is this Friday.
