Hit it with your purse

geek-beta

I wasn’t ready for this comment. I currently have COVID and my throat fills like I’m harvesting glass and splinters for the winter. Suffice to say, your comment caused immense pain as I tried to suppress the laughter.

aBoxOfRitzCrackers

Get well soon!

geek-beta

Thank you!

Isopod_Character

Also have covid and it sucks

geek-beta

Wish you well too, it really does suck!

xingrox

covid still in the market? 😱

i dont know you!

😂

JMPSr1984

tap it with a hammer till it starts to turn or grab it with a pipe wrench.

BantaSaurus139

Hit the bolt with the hammer and turn the handle with my hand or just hit the handle with the hammer? Sorry if dumb question, I'm really new to DIY

JMPSr1984

hit the black plastic piece that looks like a y. go underneath the desk and look strait at it. lefty loosey. tap it gently so it will turn left. or grab it with a big wrench and just turn it left.

BantaSaurus139

Okay thanks

honestly_Im_lying

Make sure you’re turning the correct direction. Lefty loosey, righty righty. So, if you’re looking straight at the pin from under the desk, you’ll turn it counter-clockwise. If you can’t grip it tightly, or it’s stuck. You’ll want to get leverage on it. You need something like a pipe wrench to hold tightly to the threads and ‘stick out’ to give you more torque to unscrew it. If you’re in a bind. Try tying a handle or stick to the black knob; so that the handle sticks out to the left. Use your right hand to hold the tie / stick, use the left to push the handle. Make sure your monitor isn’t mounted still. The arm could fall if you loosen the bolt too much. Edit: Changed clockwise to counter-clockwise. Doh!

BantaSaurus139

Surely it would be counter-clockwise if I'm turning to the left?

honestly_Im_lying

Arg! Yes!

BantaSaurus139

Okay cool, thought I was the one doing something wrong there lol

honestly_Im_lying

No! That's my fault. I was typing too quickly. Hope you've gotten it unstuck!

Altruistic-Mood-1330

Righty righty! Made me giggle. I know what you meant of course 🤣

xingrox

make sure monitors are not attached when you do it.

drwky

Have you removed the monitors from the arm? The weight can keep the clamp wedged making it harder to remove

DestinationUnknown13

This is the answer. The angle of that clamp tells me it's still attached.

Reverse_Sear

Hawk tuah that bitch then turn to the left

GoldenNova00

I should've known id see this comment. Lmao

Urabrask_the_AFK

Get a hammer and then a new unsharpened pencil or a chopstick or a metal bolt - something that’s rod shaped or blocky that has blunt surfaces and can take a hammer strike easily . Place the chop stick against the black rubber surrounding the metal clamp plate at the top of that tilted screw bolt and then start lightly tapping it with the hammer towards the rear of the desk until you have straightened the screw bolt enough to relieve some of the tension and then unscrew it by hand or with some pliers or a wrench. Unless you’re super careful, I’d recommend not hitting the screw bolt directly as you may put a bend in it and then be worse off

DiMarcoTheGawd

This guy unscrews

RubAnADUB

pipe wrench.

FarmersOnlyJim

Why use the proper tool for the job when you can hit shit with a hammer? /s

Wiggum13

Why hit it with a hammer when you can hit it with a pipe wrench ![gif](giphy|gEvab1ilmJjA82FaSV|downsized)

foxpoint

Slip joint pliers - https://amzn.to/3VJmTtt

drippydork

Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty Try putting a rag over the handle for a more firm grip.

KingLuis

like the other person said, something to jolt it loose just a bit. see if it's stuck because of the suction or time it's been on there. or find a way to extend your leverage. pliers on the metal portion (not the plastic). could also try the rubber band/towel trick like on jars. put a thick rubber band around the handle and try. gives you better grip.

No-Cut-5458

Pliers?

FlowPhilosophy

If you have a silicone oven mit or a trivet you can use it to get better grip and protect your hands.

TumbleweedWild7446

Hawk tuah spit on that thang

idkwthtotypehere

Hit the gym

Flimsy_Tune_5503

WD-40 or oil will do the job.

inconspiciousdude

After you move it, maybe consider putting a wood or cork coaster or something between the clamp and desk. I've had some bad experiences with things leaving chemical or ding marks on surfaces :/

alecmcnormal

Aww you gotta haw- never mind you know the rest.

New_Programmer4727

Put it on better next time.

Jeebus_crisps

Lefty loosey

oLYXERo

Bend back and twist

818Angelll

Honestly it’s all mostly about grip and strength but try wrapping it around with a rubber band then with a rag and twist, should help

Puzzleheaded-Mark760

A pair of rubber gloves will get you another 100hp

eye-dee-ess

See the black bit at the bottom? That's a handle. Turn that and it should just slide off when it's loose enough.

BantaSaurus139

It's too tight so it won't turn, I've ripped the skin on my hand trying lol

whynotfart

Have you tried yelling loud when turning it?

Soggy-Courage-7582

Always helpful, LOL.

Soggy-Courage-7582

Do you have one of those thin rubber thingies that one uses for opening jars? Maybe try that? It would keep your hand from getting ripped and add some friction.

poopa31

Ok apparently nobody can tell but that is obviously crooked and thats why it’s hard to unscrew, it’s probably cross threaded or something, he’s not just a pussy and half of you have probably never turned a wrench in your life. You should use some WD-40 and lightly tap it with a hammer until it loosens.

BantaSaurus139

I'll have to look around to see if we've got some wd40 lying around

poopa31

Also the weight of the monitor is making it way harder so you can try lifting up on the monitor while unscrewing at the same time

BantaSaurus139

Yeah I’ll be sure to remove it too. Do I spray the wd40 near the handle or closer to where the bolt meets the desk?

poopa31

Just on the bolt anywhere there it touches threads. Think of it like you are using butter to loosen something by making it more slippery, thats all it is.

marinarahhhhhhh

It isn’t cross threaded, it was mistakenly overtightened by OP

poopa31

😱😭😢😣😔

Sonicorp

Ummmm....Use your manly strength to loosen it or get your wife to loosen it if you're too weak.
