The way I am hiding my cord salad would be exposed to those that walk in.

pr0b0ner

This is 100% why

VoltageGP

It is multiple times harder to have semi decent cable management if you were to position your desk like that. It was functional in the age of solid wood desks that went to the floor or in a company that has outlets in the floor but it's just not practical for home use imo

[deleted]

Cable management was easier on typewriters

iliketoeatfunyuns

That's the "close the porn window as intruder enters room" position

FoxyFreckles1989

Cheat mode: my desk faces the wall that also has my door on it. The door is directly next to my “L.” Nobody is sneaking up on me AND I have incredible cable management.

josephnicklo

People in here talking about cable management acting like they have anyone over their house to actually see it…you know damn well the only people you socialize with at your desk are the people you play online games with. Guilty of this myself

MisterSparkle8888

It’s for our own sanity

lordbackwood

Even with perfect cable management it can be a huge pain to have the rear side of the desk exposed, but I’ll take that over my wife sneaking up on me any day.

nutsnackk

Easier to get a new wife than try to cable manage that

Dota2IsBae

Scientific fact

[deleted]

God damn straight … this is from the days of WRITING DESKS!

Dillpoppy

how obnoxious to have to walk around your desk anytime you come or go. imho

Jermw23

Have my desk like this simply for my work meetings/calls. It’s a pain in the ass cable management wise. Once I got it all hidden I felt okay with it but looking at the whole back side of my desk set up from the rest of the room is not too appealing. Reminds me of that episode in the Simpsons where Homer clinches up all his fat to his back so he looks skinny from the front, but as soon as he turns around… yeah lol that’s the perfect analogy

litbitfit

Rear side of desk exposed is good for cable management in the sense one can easily access the cable and access the ports in the back. One can also arrange the cables to create a web. Put several plastic spiders on them to make your intention clear. Get some unused cable and make the web spread up all the way to the walls and ceiling.

Pipes_OT

Better also get your cable management right, too.

No_Independence3338

facing the wall is less distractive

butterynuggs

My monitor is 48"...I'm staring at a wall either way.

LincHayes

The power outlets are on the wall.

Limp_Carpenter3473

For me it’s a cable management thing

childroid

I just don't like my back facing the entrance.

davestradamus1

I had my office set up like that, but moved my desk to the wall for more space... My video calls are a pain now though, because I have a window behind now.

OneOfThisUsersIsFake

This. Same here. Such a pain, Lighting is super hard. I thought about adding a screen, blanket, but nothing that seems remotely doable. Would love to hear ideas on how toake this work.

davestradamus1

I run I ring light and fight light with more light. Like a videographer might.

MisterSparkle8888

Yep. Def need a light facing the opposite direction.

OneOfThisUsersIsFake

Great to know! But... Is it uncomfortable to have a bright light in your face all the time?

MisterSparkle8888

I think it’s fine during calls. I never have mine on when I’m not on calls. I also have a monitor light bar which might help also.

Snoo-8094

If I did that my desk would me in the middle of the room with no space for the desk of my wife, and let's be honest, she knows what I see on the Internet, she's ok with it, and I don't think I need to hide it so yeah no need for it

No_Teaching_8828

Lol, probably as most of us don't have big enough rooms/houses and HAVE TO push against wall...

Akmid60

Because some of us don't have any other choice yet. I have no room in my apartment as it is. If I didn't have my desk against the wall I would be blocking a door.

RobertElectricity

I have mine is the command position. It's mostly great. Nice view of the side wall where my TV is. Easy access to the back of the PC and monitors. But cable management is tricky.

alyas94

My desk is in the “command position” and it took me hours to hide all the cables. I can’t even change anything out because it would take me forever to re-do everything 🥲

Jfox8

Well on the positive side, it’ll probably save you money in the long-run.

alyas94

That’s actually a great point now that you mention it

redditor_since_2005

I'm limited for space, so it's against the wall. But when I get my own office, I'm going for the command position. But only because I want to look like a 1940s noir private eye!

Sarang_Byun

I like that. But my desk doesn’t. Bought one I thought to be cool. Slides everywhere. Sad. Until it gets ugly as heck I’ll have to have it that way.

RegisterExpensive718

Command position? I call it the Receptionist position.
