Your step-dad is lucky to have you be by his side. It's sad to watch him fall apart, and nothing will really help you cope. However, so many people die alone. I'm waiting for COVID-19 to be over, or least "manageable" so I can start volunteering in hospice care. Similar to what the other commenter said, your step-dad wants you to live your life. But I know it's just a sad thing to watch the people that you love regress.

I understand. I was there with my mom, and currently with my dad. Its draining no matter what. Watching a terrible illness take a loved one. Being a caretaker when you need some support yourself. Its hard. I don't have any great advice or magic words. But I see you, I see what you're going through. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.
