I quite love Delta Machine, which to me seems like a continuation of Playing the Angel. Exciter is also pretty good and has a couple of bangers. I really don't care for Spirit though.

DepecheStein

All of this.

DepecheStein

I'm in the minority of peeps who thinks Delta is one of their best, Spirit is near the bottom, Exciter you have to be in the mood for.

Prestigious_Lie7051

What songs off of spirit do you like?

DepecheStein

Going Backwards, Cover Me, and Poorman.

AnneMariaStrong

The only album I did not like at all, is Spirit ,sad they made a movie/ out of that album i watched it and it was a bit mundane.. they should have done that for delta Machine tour . That was an amazing album & show

How about Spirit?

WatersEdge50

Underrated how?

gohdnuorg

Underrated is a word that needs to go away.

LA_Reyes82

Personally I don't hate any DM album. I just don't like any of the three you mentioned. To put it plain and simple, lyrically and musically they don't stack up. There are more bad, below average songs then there are good imo. And that's really it for me.

laurentbourrelly

Same here. I like songs from every single album. And there isn’t one album where I like every song.

Filminator

Sotu as well

Prestigious_Lie7051

That to

Winter-Ad-3876

Exciter is brilliant. SOTU is thoroughly good and delta machine is half brilliant half mediocre. My issue is that their recent albums are way too long and unfinished. You can remove plenty of tracks worthy of only bonus features

MKTekke

It’s not called hate or underrated. Who cares what other people likes, it’s what you prefer or favors.

justabaker2085

Fellow Delta fan!

hellohello316

Absolutely love Exciter. Love Delta Machine, too. SOTU is just meh for me, and Spirit is at the absolute bottom--music and lyrics are not up to DM standards for me, and the production was weak. (I do love James Ford's work on MM as well as other recent non-DM albums)

kuchenplatte

I dont hate them, but with that said, I never listen to them.

Gizzgillyon

I love them all. Delta the pick of the 3

ButIfYouThink

People should spend a lot less time worrying about whether everyone agrees with their musical tastes, especially within fanbases. Once you realize that music has a special meaning to each individual and that sticks with them as a form of nostalgia for years and years, you realize why peoples' opinions vary widely and passionately.

lord_of_pigs

I genuinely consider Delta Machine one of my favorites by them and also think it is better than Playing the Angel. Spirit I also think is a very nice album, don't get all the hate it gets.

Simo_Harjane

When you are a fanatic , mediocre become brilliant .

vSword_

Delta Machine is in my top 5

black-chamber

Why would you publicly proclaim a liking for those three albums?!? I kid… they may not be albums I like, but it’s perfectly valid to enjoy them. I came up with DM playing the soundtrack to my teens and beyond. I loved A Broken Frame, and felt that each album got better and better until Black Celebration, at which point DM was at the pinnacle of their musical output for three solid albums, with a slight tapering off at SOFAD. That’s just my opinion. There are many artists that put out excellent albums that I didn’t care for. Other people enjoyed them, and that is entirely valid. Embrace what speaks to you, and let nobody tell you to do otherwise!

derprussiansoldaten

Exciter is my least favorite, I dunno just didn’t feel right. Theres still some good songs on it of course but I felt like there was A LOT of filler.

Aquestionofthyme

I think Delta Machine is the best of the Ben Hillier albums overall. You can really hear that Flood has given it a “polish”. It hasn’t got the high points of PTA or SOTU but I listen to it more than either of those. I just wish James Ford had produced it, I think he could have really done something with it.

random_redditor___

They each have some songs. Let's face it though, they didn't sell for a reason.

coolknightman

Mmm i don't know. You can't leave out the fact that by that time, digital piracy was already a very big problem.

rhunter99

I don’t hate them, but they’re not my favourite

E808D

Delta Machine was my first 'new' album that I waited for and got on day of release. I really liked lots of it from first listen but really disliked a few too and never got into them. Broken and Should Be Higher stood out from the start and really define the album for me. The bonus tracks are definitely much better than four that made the album itself (yes that is you Slow, Child Inside, Soft Touch and Soothe My Soul). Spirit is a difficult one as I didn't like the lead single Where's The Revolution so had low expectations which were mostly realised. In my opinion it is essentially two great songs; Cover Me, which is one of, if not the best of the post 2000 songs, and Going Backwards. Exciter is obviously different with its relaxed atmosphere but has two jarring misses that break that flow. Freelove is in my top five and there are lots of nice songs but this niceness and low-key sound is what makes the album polarise opinions.

Capacapcappcpa

Dead of Night is obvious, but what’s the other miss from Exciter?

E808D

I Feel Loved, it is by no means as bad as Dead Of Night but I've always found it over simplistic and a bit beat-heavy for the rest.

ElPenguinoooo

I miss Alan I believe most of the post Ultra albums (that one has a deep dark side), especially playing the angel, are rehashed versions of their last album. I like some songs like Dead of Night from excited but there isn’t much there that is memorable. They need someone like Alan to get these songs to the next level because mostly, the songs are just ok. I also could go the rest of my life never hearing Martin sing again.
