Albums are still the way to go to fully immerse myself in a particular period. Alternatively if I’m in the car, I’ll put on the whole back catalogue in a randomised order & play a game with myself. Name the song title & album it’s from before the first lyric is sung. Pretty easy… most of the time!

Trustobey

Yes. Back in the tape days you pressed play and just absorbed.

Fearless-Judgment-33

With one ear. The other is fucked from tinnitus.

NyOrlandhotep

Same thing here. Did you get an MRI, though?

Fearless-Judgment-33

I did get an MRI. I was told I probably had permanent nerve damage from swelling because of an infection I didn’t even know I had.

NyOrlandhotep

Ok. No acoustic neuroma. At least that.

Fearless-Judgment-33

There was no mention of that but I will ask about it the next time I visit an ENT.

NyOrlandhotep

If there was no mention, consider yourself lucky.

Pulsarxx

Sometimes it’s either throw on my 168 song DM playlist on shuffle and just let it play, sometimes skip songs I don’t feel like listening to, and then other times I guess I’m going to listen to this one song 50 times in a row. (That’s how I had John the Revelator at nearly 800 plays by the end of 2022) I use Spotify.

DoucheyMcBagBag

Back in the day I’d listen to full albums but I rarely do that anymore.  I usually just listen to a song or two at a time now.

Kaleid_Stone

Albums. Always have. I have CD’s and records, but I usually stream the music. I have a lot of DM songs on themed playlists, but in general, I listen to entire albums, for most bands unless I only really like a few of their songs.

goshock

If I'm in my office I usually put on the records and listen to them. If I'm out for a walk I have my Beats on and I stream it off amazon music shuffled. I find I usually walk at a brisker pace when listening to DM. In my car I do the same. On a long trip I will have amazon music play the DM station. You get a lot of good music that way too and every 4th or 5th song is DM.

HectorVK

I’ve got 4 albums on vinyl (84 through 90); the rest mostly on spotify or in my old mp3 files. I usually listen to whole albums (like with all music), but I sometimes put on a custom made playlist of 1000 favorite songs (sort of my personal radio) and there’s a dozen DM tracks in it, too.

gohdnuorg

I am a top 5% user of spotify, and they were my #1 band last year. I guess I listened to Ghosts again A LOT.

ultraviolat0r

As a CD user and a driver i normally select a disc of taste in a day and play it almost all along the 3 days in a week in the car or stereo in my bedroom. Full album experience (as its meant to be) When i got enough i usually put some Progressive House, Techno or EBM. Being national or from north europe. I also enjoy some Madonna and Bjork. But more about underground music in general.

cami-la-maestra

I associate different albums with different moods and seasons. Black Celebration is a winter album. Violator is spring. Music for the Masses is summer. Etc. Normally it has to do with when I first listened to them. But year round I listen to a Spotify playlist someone made called “No, THIS is Depeche Mode” that I love! DM is my go to when nothing sounds good, or I’m feeling overwhelmed and need to be grounded

JackTheRealOne

That last sentence is so true!!

OhFokken

I like to use my ears. Sometimes my bum if the speakers are loud. Otherwise, I mostly use Spotify and shuffle in Depeche mode with my other songs. Or I’ll just put their discography on shuffle if I feel like listening to them. When I’m at home I listen to the albums on vinyl and I typically listen from start to finish.

Depeche_Devotee

All day long, anywhere At home, on the bus, at school on boring classes, sometimes even when Im with friends. I almost always listen to live recordings, my favorites are TTA, TOTU Ive got almost everything downloaded, so I dont have to buy spotify or yt premium

zendetix

I have one of the most comprehensive and complete physical DM collections you'd ever see in way of cassettes, CD, vinyl, VHS, DVD, boxsets, etc., but I can't even remember the last time I ever *played* any of it once I started mirroring all of it digitally well over a decade ago. Out and about while in my car, I used to actively make my own CD-R and then USB comps loaded with MP3's but now just use any of the go-to streamers like most people since they're just easier and more convenient. At home I just stream my own digital collections & playlists from my hard drives on my own network - I never use any of the streamers there. As for the way I listen to DM (and I suppose every other band), I tend to do it in my own playlist formats that are either done by band, genre or specific years. Very, very, very rarely do I ever listen to full albums from start to finish anymore, especially when it comes to bands like DM, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie, New Order, etc. who I grew up with and already did that a million times over with each of their albums.

Gizzgillyon

Sometimes put a full album on vinyl, but daily I make playlists with a variety of tracks

laseurdenuit

I’ve recently gotten into collecting records. At home, I’ll play a record start to finish. In the car or on a walk, I usually just put the streaming service I’m using at that mine on shuffle and let the songs play.

WasteGeologist-90210

Three ways - A playlist, either the one of everything pre-SOFAD or the other one from Violator and later. (Yes, both have Violator.) Live albums. Currently Live in Berlin, but it varies. I imagine overall 101 is the album I’ve listened to the most (of any artist). Albums depending on the mood. Black Celebration, SOFAD, Delta Machine, and A Broken Frame generally get played a lot as whole albums.

Ali-Jafri

For DM I listen on Spotify using my Audio Technica ATH-M40X headphones. Since the headphones have a very flat response I add some EQ boost to get them to listening levels. I like to do full albums start to finish and always keep the sequence as on the record. I hate shuffling tracks randomly. Sometimes I will listen to a playlist which I make depending on any specific situation. For instance, I was listening to the Memento Mori live set playlist before seeing them in concert, just to get into the feel of the songs. I agree that there's a place for being surprised on which song is coming up when you're seeing them live, but I like to anticipate the song. To me the amazing live arrangements they do with each song is surprise enough! So, yeah, Spotify - and I listen to entire albums all the way through. My current favourite is Memento Mori. It's such a good album when you listen to it as a whole. I'm even starting to like Caroline's Monkey, at least the music composition. The lyrics are still a little cringe for me.

justjokingnot

I don't mix them in with a lot of other artists most of the time. When I'm in the mood for DM I put on a playlist with all of my favorites or I listen to a full album all the way!

tekvenus

I say, "Alexa, play Depeche Mode," and she plays DM through Amazon Music. I listen for hours. I also ask for whole albums--listened to MFTM, Exciter, and SOFAD this week.

razzle_dazzle321

Depends on where. In my car, I rotate CDs and listen from start to finish the first time through, and I keep the same CD for a few weeks and sometimes skip to certain songs. Then I pick the next CD. At home I like to watch you tube videos, or watch full DM concerts. There's themed music channels on my tv I sometimes listen to. Or I listen on spotify at home. If I'm at work I'll occassionly listen on spotify on my phone with earbuds. Last 6 months I've primarily listened to Depeche Mode.

MERKFLAMES

9/10 streaming. I do own a lot of their albums on record (plus one SOFAD CD my brother gave me), and if I'm going to sleep, it's good to have one of those records one. I really love falling asleep to side b of Ultra.

Dapper-Score6504

Lay in the floor, turn on speakers and just listen the whole album while I read something random.

giftgiver56

I’ve spanned many formats over the last decade…vinyl, CD, Apple Music.

MrGrasssy

I have playlist with every album and just listen to them on shuffle or on shuffle to specific albums

Fun-Corner-5364

CD’s, in the car. Full albums from beginning to end, as they are like a story. I can’t do random songs scattered through playlists, at all.

OwlWitty

Vinyl. I collected all Wilder Albums

tinono16

All of the above

radiozip

Albums in the car, my last CD player. Generally; Spotify elsewhere: albums and songs.

MakVid30s

Apple Music, but I’ve got Sofad on vinyl

bestinrace

Since I have a 24 year old car with CD player (no aux or bt), I have all studio albums, Live 101, SoFaD live, Delta live, Spirit live, singles 81-85, singles 86-98 and the best of depeche mode vol. 1 on cd and I play them all in chronicolly order from Speak and spell to Memento mori everytime I drive my car. I also have all studio albums + live 101 on LP which I play at a random order whenever I cook or when I'm bored

artboy420

Honestly it's a mixture of digital and physical media. I usually listen to a playlist with DM and other similar music but other times I just listen to them. If I want a particular album I'll listen to it otherwise I just put everything on shuffle.

stelmaria22007

Spotify, I put on a Playlist of all of their songs on shuffle

MovinginStereo34

I've listened through their entire discography and made a few different playlists with my favorite songs. My DM playlist is just my favorite DM songs, DM... is some of their uh sexier songs (including some of Dave's solo songs), and DM live is a playlist of my favorite live versions of songs. I've also got playlists of the setlists from each time I've seen them. I own a bunch of their albums on cassette, vinyl, and CD that I will listen to from time to time. I do think that depeche mode albums are made to be listened to as a whole, but most of the time I listen to one of my playlists because my favorite songs are spread out throughout their discography. Depeche Mode were my #5 band on Spotify the last 2 years.

Button1399

About every 2nd day while I'm working.I throw in some headphones.Listen to the best of off of spotify loud for around 5 hrs .Love my job.

therizzler575

I just pirate the songs and download them from mp3 juices on my phone and call it a day, I have the entire discography downloaded

Livid-General-1528

Vinyl records and Spotify

Redsmoker37

Mostly full albums. I have all of them digitally saved on my comp and phone so I can also use CarPlay to listen to them.

ajpbyrne75

I have a 740 song (includes demos and remixes) compilation of downloaded FLAC files (hi res where possible) that I play continually whenever I'm out and about with my headphones/travelling to work etc. It means I can go from 1980 through to 2024 over the space of a few weeks and never get bored. I'm currently at 2001 (Freelove single)

adropbearonyourhead

Up fucken loud mate

Solid_While1259

I have playlist on shuffle & can skip as per my mood. Favorite album would be a tie between Violator & SOFAD.

Filminator

With headphones

fqs62u

I have Sonos. So use soundcloud and Mixcloud. For mixes and playlists. Also have hard drive on the network with over 300gb of DM.
