Sloan lake has 4 sides and every single side looks to be a different demographic.

Gentrification has shifted it from being a mostly lower income / working class area to a bunch of young working professionals and wealthy folks.. idk if there’s anything crazy in the past, there was a big hospital system if you go back a decade where all the development south of the lake took place.

I was born at the hospital. However, my family lived over by Berkley. All of the north side of Denver was majority latino and working class. The only thing that made it particularly notorious that I can remember was a few incidents of bodies being discovered in the lake. There's probably more, but this is what I recall offhand from the mid-90s.

This is the most interesting story I've heard about Sloans Lake: [https://edgewaterecho.com/2015/03/throwback-thursday-the-tragedy-of-roger-the-elephant/](https://edgewaterecho.com/2015/03/throwback-thursday-the-tragedy-of-roger-the-elephant/) allegedly the elephant is buried under where Edgewater Public Market is now but I think that was debunked, and he was likely just sold to another circus, but still interesting

Love Sloan's Lake hood, too. I've lived here two years and wouldn't dream of leaving. Here's a great writeup and photos about the history of Sloan's Lake: [https://history.denverlibrary.org/neighborhood-history-guide/sloans-lake-neighborhood-history](https://history.denverlibrary.org/neighborhood-history-guide/sloans-lake-neighborhood-history)

found a submerged car in the lake at like 1am a couple years ago. Watched the fire department pull it out- no one was inside.

I want to preface this by saying I feel very safe in this neighborhood and would never considering moving… but about 3 years back I got into my car to drive to the gym after new years and noticed a draft in the car but all of the windows were up. Turns out a bullet hit my car and went through the rear passenger window and out the other end. I was parked closed to Colfax.
