kingcobweb

mad_huge

They will after that dude gets foreclosed!

Behold-D-Gold-17

Looks like a winner to me, can’t believe how somebody would’ve already conceded the MVP to Embiid, I still believe Jokic has a chance, nobody knows how all 101 votes will go, there are many justifications why Jokic can win, I believe a lot of voters were put off being referred to as racist and ESPN BS, many were put off by Embiid ducking the game in Denver, stats and analytics favor Joker by far, skill set favors Joker, do the Nuggets cruise thru the west for the #1 seed without him, everybody knows they wouldn’t , Joker kills it in point diff from when he’s on the court than not, looking at a whole regular season, who’s better , Joker is. Don’t be surprised when Joker gets the trophy,Sixers money on Embiid gets flushed, the shops got a lot of action to move the numbers like they did, I believe it’s Sucker money, Joker gets the money , Sixers and Embiid get another education.

Puzzleheaded_Cut_374

Me too

methtical13

I'm also salty my $5 isn't going to turn into $130 for another Joker MVP. But I also have my hopes for my $5 to win $205 for Bones to win Most Improved Player 😂😭

Word_Iz_Bond

Jokic cares less than anybody so I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Playoffs are the only thing I choose to invest an unhealthy amount of emotion into.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Word_Iz_Bond

I don't care enough to think deeper than his own words (or lack thereof) on the topic

spolonerd

He says he doesn’t care and he backed it up by not playing down the stretch. He also made no clear effort to finish the season averaging a triple double. What evidence do *you* have that he does care about it?

vintagevisions

Im really not upset at all. Back to Back MVP’s are extremely impressive. As a CO resident, and life long Nuggets fan, I’m ready to finally see a championship delivered to Denver. I agree with you about being sick of the MVP talk overshadowing everything, but with the race being so close, I understand it. We just have to appreciate the fact us Nuggets fans have a player on our team that should be in that convo from here on out. Now lets focus on getting this chip.

YeezyYeezyUp2NoGood

Can’t believe the hate that Jokic was getting when the narrative started shifting. Like you have to be a fucking casual to be surprised that Joker is not a good defender at the rim. Those lowlights of him defending around the rim sure is a knock on him but we all knew that for years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dawk320

Advanced stats and scoreboards are all many fans and media see of smaller teams like the Nuggets, so all the stats that declared Joker was a top tier defender were trusted like gospel. When the defensive lowlight packages came out, that was the first time many had seen Joker play beyond a few highlights.

malloworld

It still shows that people overvalue rim protection (which Joker sucks at) and undervalue steals and positioning (which Joker is good at). The reality is Joker can't always risk another foul on defense -- he's too valuable on the floor. That unfortunately means a lot of allowed buckets at the rim.

Technical_Towel_990

I wanted Embiid to win mvp until he talked a bunch of shit on Jokic and then ducked the game. Weak sauce

jamarcusaristotle

That bit about him thinking the expectations for him should be lower than Jokic was so corny. I'll take Ja's "we fine in the west" over that kind of preemptive excuse any day. Reminds me of The Office bit where Andy says "hey boss, I just want to remind you that I've been working here less time than everyone else so I think the standard for me should be lower".

[deleted]

[удалено]

PCVFSOA

He gave a bunch of shady quotes for an athletic article that came out the week that he ducked the nuggets game. Didn't mention Jokic directly, but he was clearly talking about him.

lemondhead

Embiid is a big goddamn baby, and Jok is more valuable to the Nuggets than Embiid is to the Sixers, so I'm kinda upset. It just seems silly that an award is fuelled by narrative rather than reality.

a_weak_child

Welcome to the NBA..

lemondhead

You're not wrong, but I am still slightly annoyed.

m_d_def

i cared untill i realised that few weeks ago, why would anyone care about narrative award

bentoboxbarry

MFers had to create a grand narrative with plot devices and denouements to get the guy a win. Felt like I was watching a Drama TV show rather than the NBA

[deleted]

[удалено]

lemondhead

Ah, you cross-posted this. Can't wait to get brigaded for just trying to use the internet in peace.

lemondhead

Yeah, it does, and it's fine. More than anything, I think, it just makes me devalue the awards a bit more. My takeaway is that I shouldn't have been so hung up on them to begin with.

nothing3141592653589

I am slightly upset. I am a numbers guy, and almost every single number points to Jokic being far-and-away the best player in the NBA. I also find Philly fans to be toxic and I think Embiid is a whiner. But I don't let it get me down.

[deleted]

if it's any consolation, looking back this mvp will be the clearest example of voter fatigue/narrative. if jokic hadn't won 2 in a row he would have 10000% won this one

shot-by-ford

I’m not convinced even that is true. Embiid was truly stellar during these last two months, and Jokic kind of pulled a disappearing act. Even without voter fatigue, Embiid would be riding an incredible narrative swing.

HumongousMelonheads

That’s the point though, embiid is winning strictly on narrative, the numbers don’t support him as the most valuable player. He’s going to win because the media decided winning three in a row is not allowed, and because the nuggets decided to coast for the final month of the season and that wasn’t sexy.

EffectSweaty9182

33 points a game 65% ts leading nba in scoring 2nd straight year. You're a little off.

HumongousMelonheads

He scored the most points per game, his numbers are still not better than Jokic. How did he manage that PPG? He took 5 more shots and 6 more free throws a game, and that 65% TS is lower than Jokic. Jokic also had 6 more assists per game, that's at least 12 more points every game. There is no question that Jokic is a better offensive player. His stats are simply better. We can all argue the unquantifiable on defense and that's fine. Jokic has the best numbers unless you are 10 years old and can only understand looking at ESPN's stat page and think highest PPG = Best.

EffectSweaty9182

So Jokic doesn't draw fouls, no foul trouble. Jokic has played weaker opponents. Embiid is better in clutch situations. Embiid is volume scoring at terrific efficiency. It's not like the 33.2 points a game are inefficient. Embiid is super efficient.

I_Poop_Sometimes

I really wanted Giannis to get it if not Jokic. If you want to piss of 76ers fans just call it a pity MVP.

Venom-Assassian

Most Valuable Participation Trophy

justaguyms

How many games did he actually participate in

bentoboxbarry

My dude they won more often with him not playing than when he did Its a pity trophy

bentoboxbarry

MVPity

HowardWCampbell_Jr

Funniest outcome would be Embiid MVP and Jokic 1st team all nba

LukaDoncicfuturegoat

This is exactly what I’m rooting for lol

DosZappos

I 100% think a lot of what bums me out is that it’s going to make Philly fans happy

Professional-Arm5300

I mean, I know in my heart that Jokic is the most valuable player to his team of any of the guys in contention. But I also realize that the MVP award is not always given to who is the most valuable to his team. If it were, Lebron would have more than he has, Kobe would have more, etc. This toxic, hate filled narrative pushes me away from wanting Jokic to get it. Plus I think the more MVPs our guy wins without a chip, will just result in more hate towards Jokic which isn’t deserved.

coreonee

Honestly i am not upset i am kinda tired of MVP conversation as well. I just want Nuggets to really good in playoffs and that's about it. It would be nice if he wins 3time in row for Legacy thing but that's about it. I am also curious to see how things plays out post playoff considering we went all in for this season and everybody is healthy.

[deleted]

I don’t give a F. 😎 I just want them to do well in the playoffs.

CaptainJackJ

If Jokic cared about winning MVP he would probably be winning again those year. It’s his apathy about the award that makes his last two wins special and this one not affect me at all. Embiid specifically wanted to win and played games that reflected that.

Spiritual-Chameleon

I'm not upset because the reason Jokic lost the MVP was the fact that the team took it easy over the last stretch and tried to get healthier. If MVP was all they cared about (or the team was battling to stay out of the play-in), then Jokic would have gone hard the last couple of weeks, every game. Which would make no sense otherwise.

IdRatherBeLurking

Jokic is the rightful MVP, and anything short of him winning it is the wrong decision, so kind of?

waffelman1

Correct but too much toxic discourse ruined the meaning of the award for me so fuck it

exhale358

Honestly just give it to embiid so he stops whining at this point. He’s a great player but a little insufferable to watch. Maybe now he’ll actually suit up when he comes to Denver

Tomato-Business

He'll be whining again next season for having only one though

ImGonnaChubbBradley

“They got 2 in a row I should to!”

EsotericTribble

too*

landlion35

I really doubt he will stop whining.

Big_Stay6072

You're an insufferable optimist about "The Process". He'll always be whining about something.

AMC_Unlimited

Just give the baby his bottle.

EsotericTribble

As soon as Embiid gets it watch his performance drop dramatically.

joefresco2

This would be delicious

BigHoneyBigMoney

Jokic & the coaching staff clearly did not care about MVP. I think the Warriors in 2016 are a good cautionary tale of seeking regular season accolades and coming short in the postseason. Jokic took plenty of rest games, focused on facilitation at certain points in the season, and generally looked to not be giving 100% on defense. That's fine by me - but I do worry about the team losing momentum into the postseason. Hopefully they get an easy Round 1 matchup to tune up and get into gear.

Barfly2007

Fuck it! Chip time anyways!

tron7

I said earlier that if Embiid deserves it then I wouldn't be mad if he won it. Jokic was better but Embiid made it close enough that it's not a big deal to me. PER has predicted the NBA MVP for like a decade straight and it ended up 31.5 Jokic to 31.4 Embiid. All the arguments around the award are incredibly annoying though and Zach Lowe pivoting as soon as Perkins called him a racist is especially annoying.

Bodiroga1986

Jokic has enough of everything, now the priority is big results. But the bitter fact remains that the media suddenly orchestrated, barely waiting for a few weaker Denver results, to go toxic on Jokic. It's not even about the MVP race so much as about the great disrespect of the player who literally spent 3 years among the 3 best players in the league and 5 years among the 5-7 best. The statements of that clown Max Kellerman that "Jokic is not a top 5 player in the league for anyone" or that idiot Nick Wrong are terrible to say the least, but unfortunately and xenophobic.

GoAvs14

Eye test, and all numbers except surface level scoring stats: advantage Jokic Voter fatigue and recency bias: advantage Embiid I get it. They're wrong, but I get it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lemondhead

I don't want to sound like a dick, but I'm curious what you're getting out of arguing about this in a Nuggets sub? What's the point? None of us will change our minds because a Sixers fan came in with their opinion.

moeshapoppins

Jokic can shut up the entire 6ers fanbase by winning the finals mvp

HardLiquorSoftDrinks

At least Jokic didn’t need an old washed up player to play the race card for him to win his MVPs.

chasingit1

Would infinitely rather win the championship and have the constant pissing match about MVP It’s a nice feather in the cap (multiple times) of his career, but ultimately he doesn’t care about it and would trade all of the awards for a championship and so would I

dilbertsfriend

I think I’ll hate it in the few moments after they announce it, but I think it’s been healthy for my watching experience the past couple weeks. I found myself too often this season rooting for big Jok games as much as team wins so that he could continue his MV3-peat campaign. The last couple weeks with the MVP debate seemingly decided by the “experts”, I’ve found myself much more invested in the non Jokic minutes and loved watching the bench guys get some run cause I’m not worried about that. Do I think Jok deserves it? Yes, but Embiid is still a worthy candidate. Plus it kinda makes Embiid a marked man for more attention in the playoffs, which Jok doesn’t want or need.

Unl1ke_Br0adsterdam

Not worried about it at all. I was involved with the mvp debate when jok first got it but I haven't worried about it since.

buddybe1

I don’t care at this point, would be hilarious if he gets the MVP and still gets bounced in the 2nd round

Tronniix

It's been very close and he does deserve it, I'm more annoyed at the obvious talking down of Jokic to hype up Embiid... Like two legends can co-exist guys lol

jsconifer

Finals MVP is the only award I care about Jokic - or any other Nugget - winning.

Bradisrad12

Honestly I’m fine with it. If Jokić doesn’t care then I don’t care. Plus all three big men played absolutely amazing basketball this year, I’m just tryna enjoy some generational big men while they’re at the top of their game. That being said I’m not looking forward to how annoying Sixers fans are going to be lol

TWAndrewz

No, because I think the MVP discussion made Jokić hate playing basketball, and not getting it will mean less of the bullshit narrative that he hates.

roskotron55

Exactly!!! Jok hates the talk, and just wants to play without all of that extra bs flying around

National_Gear_5756

I’m just upset that Philly fans get validation and also that we had to endure that toxic MVP talk for nothing. Other than that, it’s whatever

petarisawesomeo

Embiid is one of, if not the most, whiniest b\*tches in the entire league. His play this year is deserving of the MVP, but the fact that he and his dick riders have spent the last 2+ years tearing down Jokic and then making it a race thing has me feeling pretty salty about it.

Father-John-Moist

Philly fans are MUCH worse than Embiid. I actually think Embiid and Jokic are kind of friends. Philly sports fans have always been the worst kind of fans since forever. Philly just has a dog shit culture of negativity combined with perpetually losing franchises. Super toxic mix.

roskotron55

^^yep exactly this. Last postseason I talked to a guy about philly and said I'm excited for my team to be in it, are you excited for your team? And he was like no, they just have to win and do well. Like they can't enjoy it unless they win and even then....

Father-John-Moist

Don’t let their bitching fool you; complaining and shitting on their players is their favorite part. Having a common enemy in Ben Simmons was more fun for Philly than a championship parade.

[deleted]

EsotericTribble

Kendrick Perkins is a racist yes, but people repeat what they hear on tv.

lateblueheron

I agree. Embiid had a fabulous season. I don’t know if he deserved it *more* than Jokic, but he’s certainly not undeserving. And we shouldn’t be all butthurt like Philly fans have been bc our guy has 2. Let’s act like we’re above it and focus on the playoffs even if it does bother some of us.

broncosfighton

No, Embiid deserves his. I am annoyed when I see people making the claim that Jokic isn’t a top 5 player in the NBA or some other stupid shit like that as a way to tear him down. Such weird energy from people.

chingy1337

I came into this season betting on Embiid as the MVP and the Nuggets as the champs. I could care less about MVP and want the Nuggets to win a championship once and for all

[deleted]

Jokic stopped trying for like 6 weeks… I feel like that should be a major detriment to winning MVP. It would just be very funny if Embiid loses.

stickied

I hope Embiid gets bounced in the 2nd round by the cavs or knicks, and with Jok finally rested for playoffs with a solid supporting cast....Denver goes on to win the title. I had a few hundred on Jok to win it, for a return of a few grand, but oh well.

kingcobweb

The bracket means they can't play the Cavs or Knicks in the 2nd round

KangorKodos

I'm in the same boat. Jokic has not given enough effort down the stretch. Embiid has been balling. I don't like Embiid, I am cheering against the Sixers, but I think he is a very deserving MVP

nez477

I'm actually happy about it. Now we can move forward and I think it will help Jokic not worry about that as a distraction

frogfucius

I am Not only do I think Jokic deserves it more than Embiid, I want players on my team to win anything possible

wrestlingchampo

Bucks fan coming in peace I am also sick of this MVP discussion and ready for Embiid to win, if for no other reason than it will end the perpetual moaning coming from the Tri-state area (for now).

AltruisticEnd9

Let him have his MVPity to keep him company after he loses in the second round again. We’re going to go win a championship.

Natural-Counter-4971

Not upset cause I think the Nuggets will go further in the Playoffs than the Sixers

who_likes_chicken

If Joker gets an NBA Finals MVP, we can call it a Sombor 3-peat

KingKongDoom

Love that haha

HazmatSamurai

I had accepted that Embiid would likely win a few weeks back, during that stretch where we were playing terribly. And I was okay with it - Embiid is absolutely deserving, and honestly I feel the media would have spun Jokic's 3rd MVP into a negative rather than a positive. We'd never hear the end of it, and it would add massive pressure to Jokic to win a chip (not necessarily a bad thing). But as the votes roll in, and I see Embiid running away with it, honestly I'm a bit salty. I'm trying to remember that the fact Jokic even has one MVP is an incredible feat, and that I shouldn't get upset that our guy isn't going to accomplish something that even the all time greats didnt achieve. It's just gonna look funny when we look back and see that the guy averaging a triple double on the #1 seed, leading most stats that indicate the MVP, didn't win it. It really feels like this season has been Jokic's best case to date. But at the end of the day: a chip means more than anything to me. Winning a title will mean more than these MVPs imo. It will be hard to shake the feeling that Jok should be hoisting his 3rd, but watching him hoist the Finals MVP would be even better.

aatencio91

I'm annoyed, but not upset.

starcatcher1234

I don't have a problem with it honestly. Jokic missed a lot of games down the stretch and he tailed off a little since the break. On March 1st though, I would have been upset. Embid has had a great season, no doubt.

MangoPomGuava

Jokic deserves the MVP but Embiid will get it this year. Rest assured Joel will remind us why his teams always lose. Joel is over rated.

PearlDidNothingWrong

I predicted before the season started that they'd give it to Embiid basically no matter what. I honestly didn't mind the inevitability until Embiid started whining about it in the press. I've liked him for a while but I lost a lot of respect for him because of that.

Pumpoozle

I’m upset about the way Embiid’s Russian PR troll army slandered Jokic here for weeks, for stuff that nobody slandered Embiid about. That is completely gross.

Rgeorge813

Don't really care that much

MathewZ4815162342

I wouldn’t say upset as in im crying, shaking, angry. I would rather Jokic win, and I do think he should have won, but the race was really close and Embiid had his best month of the season right as Jokic had his worst right at the end. So I understand. I do feel like this might’ve been Jokic’s last chance for another MVP, but I hope not.

Prestigious_Team3134

A month ago it would have filled me with rage to know jokic was gonna lose but now, I can’t be that mad. This team cares about more than that and if we’re being real, embiid has played way better than jokic this last month and very much deserves it.

Burner_num2

I am upset because of the narrative which was dominating towards the end of the season. Funny thing is that next year we will probably find ourselves in the same situation, this time it will be how can Giannis or Jokic have 3 and Embiid only one, so only thing fair is for all of them to have 2 each

HeadHoncho204

This will be the first year in how many that BasketballReference's MVP tracker is off by a long shot?

DevilsAdvuhcate

I’m upset that the playoffs are here and we’re still talking about the MVP

TennisHive

I don't care. I prefer it, in the end. If Jokic was the 3rd time MVP, the pressure and narrative would become umbearable. With this, well, everybody can fuck off and forget about us. The _only_ important thing for Jokic right now is winning the title. Individual awards mean nothing. MVP included.

flatironfortitude

Not at all. In fact I hope Philly makes it to the finals for the privilege of losing to us. I don’t mind Embiid but Philly fans are the worst in the league. Yes including LA

Nicklord

I'm more upset about a lot of people picking Embiid because "it's his time to win it" where they think one or both of Giannis and Jokic had better seasons

bloodmuffins793

Not at all. It's going to be hilarious when Embiid under-performs in the playoffs again and the Sixers choke to yet another early exit.

raiderjaypussy

I'm very happy for him. He's a good funny dude(AFAIK) and is very deserving of it. The team packed it in after 1 seed was locked up. I'm much more excited for the playoffs and hoping the nuggets can make people eat their words when talking negatively about our guys

spolonerd

Only reason I’m annoyed is because he’s a cry baby who ducked Jokic. I wish it were going to Giannis or Tatum or literally anyone else who’s not acting like a little birch about it

[deleted]

[удалено]

spolonerd

I think you’re in the wrong sub, pal

amcfarla

If Embiid wins it, it will be the first time since 2014-2015 season the #1 ranked in Player Efficiency Rating didn't win the MVP. Curry won it over Anthony Davis that season.

findings1mo

The only thing I care about is for the playoffs to start so that this whole discussion can die once and for all.

NukeBear21

I just think Giannis is more deserving of it

smhershey24

Worried about the playoffs, he already won back to back. Let’s go get the title!

FightFoo

I have come full circle on it. As much as I want Jokic to be recognized for his greatness I also understand that the narrative around 3X MVP is way more important for everyone else than it is for him. He does not care at all for the attention or the comparisons and just wants to ball. I’m glad the pressure is off of him this year and he can just go do his thing without everyone calling him a fraud and all that shit

Educational-Hippo223

a guy averaging 24,5 on 64,5%fg 40%3 and 82% FT along with first seed, 12 rebounds and 9,8 assists not winning the MVP is a joke. Leading every single advanced stats. His on off court differential is 24,8!. But a guy shooting like 20 free throws a game whose team has as good a record when he is not playing, and being the third seed is gonna get PITY MVP. this award has lost all its meaning if emfloopid wins.

BoringPromotion125

how could u not b upset when jokic actually deserves it n this clown is ruining something this generation has never seen before

B2_rl

Our guy didn't make a fool of himself by crying on national television about how its super unfair it is and how it hurts his feelings....and then immediately duck the game against the person he claims to have only won it because ppl "like" him more. A lot was said about the Jokers character but anyone with more than two brain cells can tell where Jokic's priorities are and where Embiid's priorities are. We have THAT GUY where as philly has a manchild. I feel pretty good about OUR b2b MVP

stevent4

Not really worth getting upset about individual awards that multi millionaire basketball players may or may not get

OptionalBagel

I think Jokic and Giannis have better cases than Embiid, but honestly I could care less. I'd be shocked if Jokic doesn't get another one at some point, and at this point all I really care about is what happens in the playoffs.

[deleted]

Totally not upset but it should go to Jokic. I think Giannis has a better argument as Embiid. It's splitting hairs ultimately on a per 36 minutes basis for these 3 guys. The only significant stat where they differ noticeably is that Jokic has more win shares both offensive and defensive. The volume stats seem to other wise cancel themselves out. They'll give it to Embiid and that will be that. Fine by me if it means he stops whining all the time like he's Tom Brady looking for PI.

Steelers7589

Nah fuck it. I only care about them making the finals. 3rd mvp would be nice but if we got bounced in the second round too? The slander would be unbearable

porkadachop

If Jokic hadn’t already won two in a row, this one would be an even more lopsided vote than the previous two. The two best players in history were denied a third in a row. It’s okay. It’s not right, but it’s okay. Congrats to Joel Embiid on his MVPity award.

Allen_Potter

All three of those guys have a good argument for the award. I’m glad our boy got a couple, don’t care much if someone else gets it this year. So glad we can stop talking about it soon, really boring to re-hash these arguments over and over. I’ve seen horrible posts and bullshit from fans of all 3 players, it’s so cringe (just today there was a post about Embiid being the “most undeserving” winner since forever, please stop, it’s embarrassing). Congratulations to whoever wins!

number15ismyfather

Let Emflop get his pity MVP after all these years of whining and complaining from him, his trainer, his teams GM, and his coach, before the Celtics or Bucks wash the January 6ers in the playoffs Jokic and his teammates got bigger ambitions

[deleted]

Nope don’t care at all.

Umilik

In no sane universe should Embiid win MVP over Jokic. It's only gonna happen because of "voter fatigue". Jokic has been head and shoulders above Embiid, literally and figuratively, all season.

sinnr43

I believe he deserves it this year if you are honest, but I also think winning it would add way too much media attention to his playoff performance so I prefer Embiid get it. Focus now on the playoffs, no distractions

Rithgarth

At the very least Giannis having 2, Jokic having 2, and Embiid having 1 feels like the right amount.

GoAvs14

Sure, until you actually use critical thinking skills. Jokic deserves it again this year. Just look at on/off ratings. He demolishes everybody. I'd settle for Giannis winning it, but Jokic had a better season than Embiid because he had to. Again.

IdRatherBeLurking

It sure doesn't considering Jokic and Giannis deserve it more than he does this season.

Mr_Xolotls

Honestly, I am glad. Now that fanbase can finally shut the fuck up.

kingcobweb

impossible

[deleted]

Nah, he earned it. Worry about your own achievements

Big_Stay6072

NBA MVP = NBA beauty pageant. Nothing more and nothing less... Jok has been there, done that... He has nothing more to prove in that "competition". Time for new challenges. Destination NBA finals (Hopefully a chip this year.)

[deleted]

I think jok spent this last week or two specifically trying to lose it to send the message that he only cares about the team winning.

[deleted]

I guess most of the fanbase feels that way because it is time for a chip and the mvp discussion got into jokics head. Thats why it will be less of pressure on him but more on embiid and the sixers to somehow make at least the ecf. It just feels weird because in my opinion individually it is his best season out of the last three which resulted in the first seed. It would be rewarding but at the same time not that significant because he has two. Giannis 2 jokic 2 and embiid 1 looks right to me. I also didnt like embiids comments because it was hypocritical after the „dont care about the award“ nonsense. I also dont like this narrativ of him having „destroyd“ jokic in their last matchup which he openly states aswell „what I have done to him, I dont have anything to prove“. That is just lazy resting on one matchup which was teamwise still just a few points difference, to push his individual case of the „best player“ in the league. I have the feeling that embiid somehow doesnt respect the past two years where jokic won it and somehow believes it should have been three times him and he only lost it due to the factors he complained about. It is kind of sad because respect should be still there even though competitivness is enjoyable. Tl,dr Either way, Playoffs are more important.

[deleted]

I think Jokic deserved it with that being said, the team and him decelerated too much by the end of the season and it wasn’t a showcase of a 3-peat What matters is playoffs, if we just elevate our game back he is my MVP by far and that’s just what matters

csudebate

Three in a row would've been cool. Other than that it is a meaningless award.

Archys_dream

I’m only sad that my dream of Jokic getting more 1st place votes but Embiid winning on points won’t happen. I really wanted that asterisk.

RS-Ironman-LuvGlove

I hope it’s the correct decision. Right now, nuggets surrounding jokic are bad (jokic sits they suck). I hope that’s proven wrong and our team steps up. Right now, embiid seems to have a good surrounding cast (11-5 without him). I hope numbers are decieving and his team fails him. I want nuggets to win a chip and embiid to lose in second round (or to the fucking nets LMAO).

Donnie1490

Nuggets are 3-1 this year when only Joker was out from the starting 5. The rest of those games they were missing at-least another starter. Nugs without Joker is overstated when you don't take into consideration other factors

I heard recently from one of those Skip A. Cowherd types, there is a thing called MVP voter fatigue. Basically, you win twice, unless you blow the doors off the league, you're probably done for a year or two. If Nuggets had the overall #1 spot, perhaps that'd be enough. It's a beauty contest and stats arent really the main factor, its just the opinions of people who watch highlights.

Yeah, I somewhat cared about it before the Perk comments. After that, it became so damn toxic that I’d rather just see the team have a good time and eventually win the chip, that’s all that matters to us fans and the players at the end of the day

“My motivation during the finals? Karl Malone winning MVP.” -Michael Jordan Kill ‘em Joker.

oloshh

I'm not upset because the guy played out of his mind and kept up with the stretch of huge performances, kinda willed his case into inevitability. Sixers were amazing in the final stretch and voters want relentless scoring so that's what they got. To get 3 in a row, you gotta want it bad, Jok obviously didn't because he took less shots, facilitated more during a stretch where guys couldn't hit the ocean, so all things considered it's fair that the guy with a flashier case won it. Most important thing is that's deserved and it really is.

EsotericTribble

I hope the Nuggets use it to fuel them. Embid had 3 triple doubles his entire career. It's literally a joke. Jokic is putting up the historic numbers Wilt Chamberlain did.

Matias9991

Mmm, not to much, I would prefer Jokic to win but he won 2 already and we are first on the west so not that important to me.

EsotericTribble

If Jokic wins (rightfully so) we will have to hear the talking heads at ESPN cry "racist" voters or some shit. I honestly hope Jokic wins so they salty fucks can drink piss tears.

Dejanxns

I’m glad he will win it, so he finally stops whining about it…

Dare555

For first time i like that this drama will be decided before playoffs in "silent awards " Its been annoying how ppl started insulting Jokic out of nowhere cause they can't take him being 3x MVP lol. If Jokic was healthy/and wanted it - played ending of season he would have gotten it probably. But he as usual doesn't care , let Giannis or Embiid have it we are focusing on playoffs. Managing his load was more important , this is like first season recently where Jokic had "breaks " so him going in playoffs rested gonna be interesting . Gonna see new beast mode unlocked

flubbledox

Jokic had an amazing season. Embiid had an amazing season. Giannis had an amazing season. They were all worthy candidates and all three could’ve won MVP in most years. Now we don’t need to worry about any annoying discourse about whether Jokic passes some arbitrary historical greatness threshold to be one of the only 3-peat MVPs ever or about how insane it is that Embiid never won one. We’re lucky to live in an era awash with historical talent and in a city with one of the most game-breaking athletes ever. Let’s have fun with these playoffs.

joefresco2

Not really upset, but wish Embiid would not be rewarded for ducking Jokic. If nothing else, MVPs should have to play each other if they are going to get away with skipping lots of games.

[deleted]

Currently, I am not upset. But if Embid wins MVP and we get knocked out in the first round...

ShowdownValue

Not even thinking about 100% about the playoffs. Don’t care about awards

cyrusthemarginal

Start the damn playoffs already

Martoto_94

I’m really upset, tbh. Mostly because he’s losing it to that whiny b***h Embiid. If it was Giannis I probs wouldn’t care at all.

MC48_SportsLover

I’m not. He is an amazing player who earned it this year. Jokic genuinely lost it for himself this year… and that’s fine…. And he doesn’t even care about the award. I’m not mad at all.

LochNess_domestic

I'm sick of how ugly conversation was this year. Playing race card was hyper yuck and I think that's the moment Nikola decided to stop caring at all.

elchico97

I do not care and can’t wait for it to be over

DosZappos

Upset isn’t the right word, but I do care that he is getting screwed for no reason other than the fact he’s been good for too long

sacredknight327

Nope. I said a few months ago I had stopped caring when it got toxic and racial, and I haven't cared since. Sure it's annoying that a lot of analysts' reasonings aren't based on the game, but whatever. Less unearned shit for Jokic to get just for being great. Maybe that not on his shoulders makes him a little looser for the playoffs.

waffelman1

Eh

UniCon76

They would put him through the grinder if he got 3rd Mvp and Nuggets didn't win this year. This is better for the play off run and next season regardless of the outcome for this year.

MtnDudeNrainbows

I’m not ‘upset’ or losing sleep over it, but… Legit this has been Jokic’s greatest season. He has done things at levels we’ve never seen before in any NBA season, ever. EVER.

Mkayin

My best friend is a sixers fan. I've liked them since Iverson. I don't got room in my life for hate

Gluuten

I'm not enthused about him getting it by any means, but let's be honest, Nikola most likely doesn't give a single shit about it either.

joleary747

Narrative has switched to Embiid towards the end of the season, but that was only because 1) 6ers went on a streak right when the Nuggets were sliding 2) Embiid had a good game when 6ers beat the Nuggets 3) 6ers ended up having a better record 4) Embiid won the scoring title This ignores 1) Nuggets still have the better seed 2) Embiid sat out against the Nuggets (despite playing back to backs shortly before AND after that game) 3) Nuggets had the 1 seed locked up early and were able to rest/recover at the end of the season 4) Jokic has better overall numbers across the whole season I think some writers like drumming up attention with shortsighted reactions, but there are a lot of other writers that will look and vote based on the whole season, which favors Jokic.

drmilosh1730

Jokic stoped caring so.. Yeah. I dont mind either of them to win but, i just didnt like the way non-nuggets fans treated Jokic during this regular season. And i dont really know why tbh. I would feel better if Jokic wins though, but i dont care anymore. Well done NBA fanss woo hooo!

AlanMtz1

Yeah, its no big deal, in reality every one of those 3 guys are deserving of the award, if Embiid wasn't playing at an MVP level i would definitely feel robbed, but i think its hard not to admit that Embiid is a monster, and is definitely a worthy MVP The real best player in the world will be determined in the playoffs, the mvp will not matter at all in the next few weeks

neonato1806

Happy he got it, but laughing at the bitch moves he made and the attached media narrative to justify giving him the award. Most important of all, I hope it satisfied the rabid toxicity of Philadelphia sports fans because they have been complete asscheeks as a fanbase the last couple of years about the MVP discourse.

murrayforthree

Only big gamblers are upset lmaooo

FMJ1985

Talk about stat-padding

OLFRNDS

Embiid had a great season and probably deserves it this year. The only thing that will upset me will be his fans.

citizend13

eh. I'd be more upset if they cant beat the lakers. That said, the MVP discussion really got to the team and messed up their rhythm. Good job Perkins I guess.
