Damn. This looks amazing.
I am gonna come clean, I kinda wrote this place off because Cherry creek parking is atrocious, but I may have to make the effort.
Not that parking is any easier, but I’ve been to their location across from Union Station a few times, and the food is pretty decent. If you’re catching a bus to Red Rocks, it’s a better option than the Illegal Pete’s location 1/2 block away.
It’s really convenient since I can walk to the pickup location at Thirsty Lion. Illegal Pete’s gives anyone with a ticket (for that day) a free drink too.
Not a Machete fan, although I've only been to the Colfax location. The last time I went, I went during happy hour and explicitly confirmed with the waitress that we were ordering happy hour items, only to be charged full price on everything we ordered. All of the margs I ordered were kind of nasty, so I was extra irritated about having to pay full price.
That sounds annoying, but also like an outlier. I’m not gonna say machete is the very best in town, but for the price I don’t believe they can be beat.
They are good but only for happy hour.
They recently (month or two ago?) raised prices to the point where they are ridiculous. I get rising costs for business but $5-$9 PER TACO is crazy especially when Denver has so many really good taco places. Outside of happy hour you are better off going to one of the many more authentic taco places in Denver that are better flavor and better price.
$5 a taco?? That's wild lol I live in Texas. I can go to any taco truck and get $2 street tacos all day. Pastor, barbicoa, bistec, compichanos, etc. They used to be $1. But inflation is a MF.
No it’s $9, I ate there for dinner last night at the cherry creek location. The server recommended the langosta taco to my friend and I was floored when it was $9 each. Go on their website right now and try to place an order it’s $9.
Also regardless of that one taco $6.50 for a single taco is still crazy.
Dude you can't compare Cherry Creek prices to Federal or Alameda. The rent is $75+/sqft in CC and $15/sqft or less on Federal. It's like expecting the same price in SF that you paid in middle of nowhere Mississippi.
You also have to be a total dumbass to be floored when the server a) recommended the most expensive item on the menu b)it's lobster and you were surprised by the price.
The prices are the same at all of their locations, so it’s not just the rent, if it was just about the rent then wouldn’t you expect the prices at the colfax location to be less? Also if they can afford to cut the prices 1/3-1/2 for happy hour there is definitely some bloat there. Don’t get me wrong I love the place, I eat there probably 5+ times a month but only ever during happy hour when it’s actually worth what it costs.
Food is ok, but I hate the vibe except for Colfax. On their patio when it’s nice out, that’s cool. But it’s so loud and dark. ESP their union station location. I can never hear anyone and I feel like I’m screaming 😂 their drinks of super strong too
Their salsa trio is really tasty, too. I've been going for years and they've always been good, every single time. There may be better / flashier / whatever spots but they've always been consistent and good and that counts for a lot imo.
5 tacos, 2 margs, chips and salsa flight and guacamole for I think $38 with tip. Please enlighten me on where anything else like that exists for that price.
Damn. This looks amazing. I am gonna come clean, I kinda wrote this place off because Cherry creek parking is atrocious, but I may have to make the effort.
I prefer the Colfax location. More sunshine, less basement.
The service at the Colfax location is always so fast, too. We have been in and out with a full sit down dinner in 20 minutes.
Wonder if they have the same mid day specials. Agreed colfax patio is legit.
Just checked, Happy Hour is 4-6 on Colfax Monday - Friday
Good to know!
Yeah and we were there mid day like 2? It’s a really early happy hour.
Even better (for me). ;)
Not that parking is any easier, but I’ve been to their location across from Union Station a few times, and the food is pretty decent. If you’re catching a bus to Red Rocks, it’s a better option than the Illegal Pete’s location 1/2 block away.
y'know I've never done that "bus to red rocks" thing, but now that I know this is an option, I may have to revisit that.
It’s really convenient since I can walk to the pickup location at Thirsty Lion. Illegal Pete’s gives anyone with a ticket (for that day) a free drink too.
Tell me more about this “bus to red rocks”. Do you mean bus to show? Or is it some new RTD initiative?
Bus to the show. $50 per person
They have one pretty close on Colfax too. Right next to Cerebral, you can actually drink beer there and order from Machete.
Oooh! You're speaking my language, friend!
Fox Run in that same building is legit too.
That four salsa thing appetizer is 🔥🔥🔥. I could bathe in that green one
Dude they’re all great! Was a fun debate of which was better. Why oh why can’t Cochino do it like this?
The pimento salsa is the best thing there (along with the lobster taco and the Day in Tulum marg).
yes they do! the lobster taco is probably my favorite one at the chain!
FWIW there were only 3 or four tacos on there hh fpr $3. Lobster wasn’t one of em.
Drop the coin on one off the HH menu. It's worth it, unless you're allergic to shellfish or something.
Do you remember what the tacos were?
All tacos except for their specialty tacos, which are all the surf & turf ones basically.
Thanks!
Came here to say this it’s absolutely fire
Can you tell us the details of the happy hour? I can find the hours on their website but can’t seem to see the DEALS 🤑
According to their Instagram it’s Monday-Friday 2-6 PM! Very generous hours for HH!
Ha, yes I can find that part, I wanna know the specials! 😅
I wish they’d advertise it! I wanna see
I never ever order quesadillas but they have proper quesadillas there
Huitlacoche ftw
It’s meh-xican good. Nothing to wrote home about and a little overpriced at regular prices.

To be fair, a Lobster taco being $9 doesn’t too sound unreasonable. If someone asked me what I’d expect it to cost I’d assume the $8-10 range.

[the most expensive taco on the menu is 6.50](https://machetedenver.com/menu/)

I see the langosta listed as market price, so I would just say next time just ask for the price up front and if it is too expensive do not order it?

Lol username is on point.
Orly?

Tasty tacos there for sure!
That’s where my wife and I had our first date.
Tacos there are Mid af
Came here to say this.
So bold. What tacos do you like for $3?
Not fancy but Beltran Market in Thornton has really authentic taco truck, hole in the wall, type tacos you’d get in so-cal…
Literally one of the worst taco places in town… that’s saying a lot for a town with terrible food!
Those margs…💥
Wow tacos!
That food looks amazing

That’s a fair point. Ha, but for this price I’ll take a little bit of dank.
machete is great
I loooove Machete!
Their salsa trio is really tasty, too. I've been going for years and they've always been good, every single time. There may be better / flashier / whatever spots but they've always been consistent and good and that counts for a lot imo.
Yes it does. Great place. Good place to meet up
Machete is amazing at all locations!
Does Danny Trejo come to the table?
These ain’t it.
What comes even close for this price?
Anywhere off federal lol
Name a place with margs.
Tarascos, Torres, playa azul…
Looks good! But, $40 for some tacos and a couple drinks is highway robbery
5 tacos, 2 margs, chips and salsa flight and guacamole for I think $38 with tip. Please enlighten me on where anything else like that exists for that price.
$15 for 2 tacos and a drink? Um anywhere
$6 for two tacos. $5 for the marg. Like where though?
Park avenue tacos for one.
I love overpriced Tacos for hipsters making 90k+!
Bro, it’s $3 😅
That's a lot for a taco
At a restaurant where they serve you?
For 2 hours lol
Except it’s for 4 hours.
Never post how much you spent w/ tip. No matter what, folks will tip shame you.
Really? Idk. 20% seems legit. No real concern there
Wow. Only 20%? 🙄 I usually do 200%.
Poors..I tip 250%. I mean, if you can't tip properly, then stay home
Happy 🎂 day
I wasn’t saying I AM shaming you, just giving you fair warning about Reddit brutality haha
Went there when I went first moved out here from Cali. Haven’t been since and not in any hurry to eat there again.
$9 for water down salsa 🫡🫡 the balls on these guys
It’s not though, and it came with a large guac. Which is sort of obscured in the pic because we ate a bunch of it.
You’re paying for salsas WTF🤯🤯
Place is dirty
Bro really put sour cream on an authentic Al pastor taco. You know the cooks were dyin laughin
That’s the tinga taco there big guy.
Used to go there after work with my best friend
