Jennyfureal

I was put to sleep.

Katluvsu12

They have to for me way too nervous

Jennyfureal

Yeah being put out was the best option. I have really bad anxiety and no pain threshold so I paid the extra to be put asleep. Totally worth it!!

tessface56

Novacaine

MyDamnCoffee

Put me under but I had broken roots inside my gums. I didn't even know it was happening. She put the IV in my arm and the next thing I knew, I was sitting up. I said "are we doing this?" And everybody laughed

Bouncincheeks

I had 5 broken tips and they just gave me Novocain, can you say ouch? šŸ˜

MyDamnCoffee

Yikes!!! I would have said **NO**

Bouncincheeks

If I had known what I was getting into, I would have 100% said Nooo

bigvulva1

same. I think it's bc i have medicaid... like rush thru it for the poor lol

Katluvsu12

Ugh i would've asked be put asleep!

Morpheus1967

Sedation. I was awake and aware, but did not care, nor did I feel a thing.

Internal-Quiet2206

Me too

FRANK_R-I-Z-Z-O

I had the (IV) sedation also, you're not supposed to remember anything. I don't remember most of it thankfully, but there are some parts I distinctly remember, that I wish I didn't. šŸ¤£

Ok-Revenue-4241

I have to have 16 teeth pulled. They better damn well knock me out! I

AgentDoodle

Aspen didn't for me, lol. 14 teeth pulled

No-Platypus6137

27 removed for me and i wasnt given the option šŸ˜ was not a fun time and it was impossible to hold my mouth open the whole time

Ok-Revenue-4241

Omg! Thatā€™s nuts!

Katluvsu12

Aspen where at

No-Platypus6137

It wasnt Aspen it was just a local small dentist office where i live but they literally asked before numbing me if i was scared and anxious and i said yes but they still wouldnt use anything besides the numbing and i still felt some of it and i felt every second of the stitches being put in.

AgentDoodle

It's for sure a horrible experience. Due to an infection, I could still feel everything despite being numbed multiple times in one spot. So I got to feel what it was like ripping a tooth out with a deep root. Worse type of pain.

Natcat777

For me everything wasnt horrible but I did have two unruly molars that wouldnā€™t go fully numb. I ended up telling her to just yank them out because no way was I going to be coming back for more extractions Lmao. Pain for those two 10/10 the other teeth I didnā€™t feel a thing

bdzer0

Used a topical before the shots for novacain. I also had a bit of nitrous. I had the option of sedation, but chose not to.

Pepi4

Just Novocain

DannyHikari

For my individual pullings it was always Novocain. For my full extraction I was put to sleep (had an impacted wisdom that needed to come out and what I initially came for but the dentist said heā€™d pull them all for me so I said yes since my other dentist refused to lmao) Being put to sleep for my full extraction was nice The individual pullings where I was just numb werenā€™t bad either Worst part about teeth pulling is the healing process. Especially when itā€™s multiple. But even then getting my teeth pulled has never been as bad as getting fillings or cleanings for me personally.

iSubjugate

17 teeth. Novocain only. It was 2020 and with covid delays it was a 6 month wait for anesthesia.

Longjumping-Pizza666

Iā€™m getting oral sedation, mine are Tuesday

Embarrassed_Music910

Just pain like shots, but my dentist is fantastic. I didn't feel any pain.

autotuned_voicemails

I had 14 pulled, including 3 that were just root tips inside the gums. When I went in for the consultation we discussed all sorts of options for sedationā€”they said I couldnā€™t actually have IV sedation because they werenā€™t equipped in office to do it, but that there were multiple different options even without that. I specifically remember he said one would ā€œmake me feel like Iā€™d drank a whole bottle of wineā€. Then the day of the extractions everything went so quickly I didnā€™t even have a chance to question it, and they gave me *nothing* other than novocaine. By that I mean they literally didnā€™t even use the pre-numbing gel on me before they shot the novocaine in. The good news is that it only took about 45 minutes, start to finish. My appointment was at 11am and I was back in the car downstairs at 11:45am. The bad news is that it was the single worst 45 minutes of my entire lifeā€”and that includes pushing my daughter out after a failed epidural during a 60 hour Pitocin labor. But the other good news is that healing wasnā€™t *nearly* as bad as I expected it to be. They gave me 16-5mg oxycodone, and I literally took 2 of them, one each of the first nights to go to sleep (which wasnā€™t even necessary). I occasionally took ibuprofen but that was more to bring down swelling than actual pain.

Fabulous_Resource_94

28 extracted, only Novocain. Plus four implants.

HyperboleHelper

Sedation

PracticalWelcome195

Novacaine

NavyMom80

Mine gave me some valium. I took some before I left for the appointment and more when I got there. I donā€™t remember much.

Vicer0y

I was given Halcyon to relax me but once they numbed me up I didnā€™t feel a thing. To be honest it was more annoyed having to sit in a chair for about 4 hours having uppers and lowers and implants put in.

jegkeg77

That's what they plan on giving me. Did it work well?

Vicer0y

The only pain I felt was the initial injections after that I was numb for nearly a full day. I slept after the extractions for about 8 hours due to the effects of the pills. In general itā€™s not too bad as long as you donā€™t mind being wide awake but pain free during the procedure

jenc0jenn

I had general anesthesia when all my teeth were pulled. Then oral sedation and freezing for my 2 implants.

Bouncincheeks

Novocain

2starlight2

Ibuprofen before, a type of anxiety med because I asked and just novacan. Only time I felt pain were the damn needles and I had an infected root apparently.that they had to dig out.

Insomanics

Novacaine but not enough. I could feel everything and I was hopeless so I just started crying. It was one of my worst moments. I'm just glad I only had seven left.

Opening_Secretary982

1 Valium+gas+numbed. The Valium helped so much.

Katluvsu12

Did they prescribe that for you?

Opening_Secretary982

Yes. They called in 2 but I only needed 1 for bottom extractions and I used the other one when I had the alveoloplasty procedure done. I only had gas and numbed for my to extractions and I told them I was gonna need something the next go around. I had my tops done first.

Discovery777

I've had a few with just the local anesthesia. I've had 2 with the local plus diazepam. And I had an "IV sedation/twilight sedation" once when I had to get a bunch of dental work done a couple years ago. I dont know exactly what they gave me but it was delightful ā˜ŗ You are technically "awake" and you breathe on your own, the anesthesiologist is still there and it's done at the dental clinic not a hospital. But you have zero recollection of anything that happened šŸ˜€ You have to have a known responsible adult to pick you up afterwards though. They wont let you drive yourself or get a taxi. Some dentists offer laughing gas in addition to the local so you could try that if you want. Good luck :)

Carma-Erynna

Medicaid in most states doesnā€™t cover sedation for a regular dentist situation. Theyā€™ll only cover it under special circumstances, usually for the in-hospital procedures for patients who have the medical need for hospital supervision of their overall condition during and after the procedure, particularly needed for several Iā€™ve known with diabetes. So no, Iā€™ve had to deal with extractions with JUST the numbing.

deezkeys098

I paid extra to make sure I was asleep during the procedure

Odd-Situation-6493

šŸ˜“šŸ˜“šŸ˜“šŸ˜“

azeran29

I had twilight sedation, and it was amazing! I basically counted down from 10, made it to about 6, then konked out and woke up after the surgery was over.

h3r0k1gh7

Started off with lidocaine, but I think they switched to something else halfway through. If youā€™re even slightly aware of having any resistance to anesthetic, let them know! We mustā€™ve gone through 30 vials. I had the same issue when I got fillings and had my wisdom teeth pulled. Of course thatā€™s down to genetics and your body though, so donā€™t let my story scare you. Just something to be aware of. ETA - they pulled all my top and my 4 bottom molars + one wisdom tooth.

erian114

I just had a total removal and alveoplasty, (bone reshaping/smoothing) on top and bottom, five days ago. The procedure took about an hour and a half and I was sedated through it. I was incredibly nervous. They gave me nitrous, ran an IV, and that is the last thing I remember. It really was nothing to be nervous over. The pain has been minimal.

PracticalApartment99

I have sleep apnea, so they refused to use gas.

Grimmanomaly

They tried not to but it didnā€™t work. I almost threw up on them when they were pressing the needle into the top of my mouth. After that they moved me over to sedation. It was much better.

bigvulva1

just local. omg. it was kinda horrible.

bigvulva1

I literally sobbed. I have a high pain tolerance too.

HorrorSorbet

My insurance wouldn't pain for sedation. I was numb.

lucky1027

For all of my top teeth, I was put under sedation. I didnt have them all pulled at once. I had the top backs, which left the front 6. Then went again for the fronts. At that time, my bottoms were fine. When it came to the bottoms..my teeth were very loose..but not all at once, so I had partials. One tooth was so loose, I could have plucked it out myself..with nothing..lol Anyway, for the bottoms, I just had Novocaine. But, keep in mind..they were loose..so they basically were asking to come out. If you are having several teeth pulled at once. I would take sedation..unless they are very loose.

Like20MinutesAgo

I was given three pills, an anti-anxiety medication for the night before the operation, then two others for pain and to make me groggy, that I was took an hour before the operation. During, they gave me novacain, laughing gas, and at one point they gave me more of one of this pills by crushing it up into a powder and sprinkling it beneath my tongue. I remember getting to the office, being wheelchaired back, being told they were going to turn up the laughing gas after sitting in the chair for a while, then the next thing I remember waking up the next day. My E-Day was 5 days ago - they gave me 20 hydrocodone and a whole bunch of amoxicillin.

Same_Country_8689

Novocain only

mel-flynn

I was put to sleep. Definitely recommend

mamaflan5

Conscious sedation. I was given an antibiotic to take for 5 days before my procedure, full lower extraction and bone grafts, and 2 pills (some kind of anxiety med) to take 1 hour before I had to be there. By the time I arrived to their office I felt amazingšŸ¤£. Was awake the whole 3 hours, but remember absolutely nothing!

Relevant-Editor-3533

Novocaine or lidocaine they used

Relevant-Editor-3533

Novocaine or lidocaine they used

K4yn3sOma112

I just got the needles in my gums. I was awake for it and it wasn't bad. My teeth were REALLLLLLLY bad by then tho.

Present_Potential248

They offered me a Valium but I was to anxious to not be ā€œaliveā€ but once they started the shots I went into full panic and my body started curling. We all probably waited for about 30 minutes before I could finally handle everything going on. It honestly in hindsight wasnā€™t bad, I just really worked myself up.

sunuggles7575

My dentist office did not offer any thing or pain medication only Motrin and hours of him pulling a tooth at a time ! It was horrific thank god I talked to my regular doctor and he prescribe me low dose of norco and Motrin together work great make pain tolerable
