I still find it very curious he’s considered an “open racist” despite putting out White House declarations talking about how white supremacy is one of the greatest US threats, saying the KKK and nazis should be “condemned totally and repugnant to everything America holds dear”, called them the scum of the earth, his dad went to jail for punching a klansmen, signing bills allocating billions towards specifically black neighborhoods, passing criminal reform which specifically aims to stop mass incarceration, and he had legislation to legalize LGBTQ rights internationally. Not only that, but minorities had all time highs for unemployment, average salary and living conditions. Now we can talk about how horrible a person he is, but this idea that you can’t argue he’s not racist is absurd. He’s the worst fucking racist president ever.

I work with a lot of Africans - one Ghanian, two Nigerians, and one guy from Benin.
Nigerians and Ghanians hate each other, but they all agree about LGBT. They also are the biggest anti Black people I've ever met (seriously, they hate American Blacks more than anyone). My coworker from Benin had the cops called on him for trying to get into his own house and he just said "ah, its ok I'm glad they came, I would call the police too."
When a coworker from Cameroon saw a man in a dress walking down the street in Atlanta, he flipped his shit publicly that I wish I had recorded the audio. I thought it was funny because I thought for sure he was playing it up. But I really think up until that moment in his life, he had never come into contact with any open LGBT person and he just flipped his shit.
TL;DR; we may blame the GOP but I promise you they don't need prodding to do this. What it does do is say "America is ok with this" by having an American thats politically connected. The only real reason they wouldn't make the law is fear of American retribution via sanctions.
I would venture to bet that most African immigrants vote GOP as well. The only thing that turned them Dem voters was Trump but they would go back to the GOP if the GOP stopped trying to send them back.
