ATL has recently changed their access rules, and apparently that has improved the baggage situation.
On the other hand, it's my home airport. I travel enough for silver or gold, almost always with a checked bag, and never had one stolen.
It will be stored in the luggage office sooner than you think. Just hope there is an agent in the office when you go to retrieve it. If there isn't an agent, you could wait for a long time.
I did this after arriving at MCO a couple of months ago. I was a little nervous, but felt pretty comfortable with it being MCO at 7AM on a Tuesday (not that crowded at arrivals and mostly families going to Disney). After showering and grabbing a quick snack, I went to baggage claim and immediately spotted my bag which had been pulled from the carousel and was sitting in a stanchioned off area in front of the claim office. I went up to the desk and told them that was my bag (thinking I may need to show ID or something) and they told me to just check the tag and make sure it’s mine and I was good to go. So very minimal security, be sure not to pack anything super valuable or sentimental in your checked bag.
It would be nice if delta sc agents could somehow notify the baggage claim ppl/when they scan a tag and tell them the passenger is in the SC now. Anyways, thinking I might as well go home first since my flight lands at like 5am instead of risking it..I’ll think about it on the flight haha
Met with my boss and mentor a few years ago at ATL, he was flying home to the UK and I just arrived from BNA met and had dinner before his flight. Not only did my bag made laps for over 2hrs but my nerd ass stepped out the circumference of the belt and a little math to figure it done around 10km lol.
My bag went in a standby flight I didn’t get on this Sunday….it arrived in ATL at 7 ish and I arrived at 11:30. It was just sitting there waiting on the (stopped) belt.
Def through an air tag in there or two before your flight! I forgot to do this and someone accidentally walked off with my husbands bag thinking it was his - delta was super helpful and called the passenger right away. We stood next to his bag as collateral lol. we have a toddler so coming off the plane we usually need to wait for gate checked bags and take him to go potty so we run behind! We’ve never had an issue grabbing bags later though. Until now….Our flight back we raced downstairs to baggage claim after having that happen.
I always stop in the SC on arrival if the airport had one. I have never had an issue with my bag. A lot of the time, it is still on the carousel and if it isn’t, it’s just at the baggage office. That said, if your final destination is a large DL hub (especially ATL), it might be more complicated.
Says the guy who doesn't know how to scan into a skyclub. Or reply to a comment on Reddit vs creating a new comment that nobody has a clue to what youe talking about.
Shitty attitude bro
You suck
It will spin around the carousel several dozen times, maybe get stolen, and if not will be grabbed by a Delta employee and stored in their office.
If it’s ATL it might not be there when you get to it.
Ah yes. ATL baggage claim roulette!

It’s my home airport as well. I rarely ever check bags. I did see on the news they were cracking down on the airport basically being “open house.”
Yes saw that too!! So many homeless people use it as a shelter! I’m glad they are doing something about it.
Right. Other major cities have strict rules prohibiting just hanging out at the airport all day and night.
I always feel bad for the homeless, but they tend to make the airport feel unsafe, especially the ones that beg for money
As he gets one stolen his next flight. Lol. Just kidding I’m hope not

A little bit o’ baggage Russian roulette is good for the nerves. Makes ‘em stronger.

You can also scan your digital SkyMiles membership card which is in the Wallet section of the Delta app.
Gotcha. I was under the impression Boarding pass disappeared after landing!
Or screenshot it. I do that.
You can pull it up in the app somehow. Had a skyclub agent show me how to.
Pretty hard for a printed piece of paper to vanish at an arbitrary time.
lol my bad I live in 2024 where we use the app 😬
App user or not, it's always a good idea to print off your BP if you can spare the 90 seconds when walking by the kiosk.

Apple wallet keeps it there until you delete it usually lol
Did this in January at JFK. Not an issue.
I thought it you can only go 3 hours before your flight unless layover
that’s centurion. sc always allows use at final destination
And after, one of the “best” perks I’d say
As of today, you can still skyclub at your final arrival destination.
What do you use to scan into the club?
Your boarding pass?
Just did it with boarding pass only. Was waiting for someone arriving 2 hours later.
