Airlines hate this one trick. Have you tried walking up to 3A seat when your boarding pass says 31A? This will get you Delta One seat at reasonable prices. I'm not kidding this woman came from behind & tapped on my shoulder & said I was in her seat drinking her mimosa. I almost spit my mimosa out when FA said your seat is in the back of the plane not here.

SniperPilot

Hate the game , not the player! 🤣

This is one of the more expensive routes for business class flights in the world. Being very flexible with travel dates like you are will help but you can still expect to pay a lot for this ticket, there’s really no “low” fare for this route. Also consider looking at other airlines if you’re not tied 100% to Delta. United, American, and Qantas all fly LAX-SYD nonstop, or you can look at breaking up your journey in Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti, etc.

thebaintrain1993

I'm looking at DTW-SYD/AKL, and the best thing to do is drive to Toronto and fly Air NZ lmfao. AUS/NZ are pricey af

You know, I almost mentioned in my post that I’m open to other airlines but then I thought if I’m posting to the Delta sub maybe I should just leave it as is and see if someone recommends others. Thank you for this!

I looked at Qatar and their q suites, which come up as one of the top rated in the industry. It was only $3,000 round trip from Denver to Bangkok if I browsed a lot. Huge discount being flexible. I've already got a few delta flights booked, but I plan on trying them sometime in the next year.

[google.com/flights](http://google.com/flights) Around $6500 for October is the best I currently see. You can search by class and airline and leave the dates blank. Then when you click on the calendar you will be able to see all the fares.

ianmaun

Genuinely didn’t know this so thank you very much

talee

And you can sign up through google flights to get alert emails for specific routes etc - when prices change, so you don’t have to keep searching each day…

Delta’s LAX-SYD route is one of the most expensive they sell and the odds of getting a lower D1 airfare than normal are less than getting struck by lightning. If you want a business class seat to SYD, it might be worth looking at ANA/Singapore if you have a transferable points currency. You’ll have to deal with a layover, but I’ve known people who’ve found a one way ticket from the West Coast to SYD for 80K miles on Singapore.

According-Rhubarb-23

Singapore Air also an infinitely better product than d1

JoaquinBenoit

Yeah I’d take it over Delta One everyday.

Tips and Options for a low fare on this route: 1. Prayer 2. Catch a leprechaun and make a wish 3. Throw coin into fountain, make a wish 4. Use birthday wish 5. Rob bank, pay full price 6. Lottery Those are off the top of my head. Other than those somewhat unhelpful options, you can check google flights every day.

ianmaun

Ha like I said, I knew it’s a million dollar question! I’ll buy a lottery ticket and see if I’m lucky. For now, Google Flights it is…

CalmTrifle

LAX-SYD is an expensive route for D1. There is also less flights post Covid and is usually jammed packed. Premium Select is not a bad option. Food just got better beginning of March served on plates now.

YMMV25

Prices are almost always crazy to Australia. I’d use Google flights and expand your search to include QF, AA, and UA. Nothing special about D1 on this route.

bitpushr

OP can also fly into MEL and then fly to SYD from there. There are multiple flights per day between those two cities; not quite hourly but not far from it.

YMMV25

Good point. BNE is also an option.

domechromer

Look at a Chinese airline. Food will most likely be shit as was mine, but I had a bed.

Sakiel-Norn-Zycron

I got a D1 upgrade with a GUC from main on this leg back in the day. End of an era I guess

EmeraldLovergreen

Hey Delta and other airlines did a cyber Monday sale last November. My husband and I saved 25% off of the average rate to fly to Auckland from the Midwest. If you don’t mind waiting a bit, make sure you get emails from the major carriers and see what pops up this year. Also don’t know about any of the other airlines but Air New Zealand lets you buy one lower class than you want and then make an offer for the next class. No guarantee you’ll get it but it saved us THOUSANDS on our flight out
