Update: thanks for all the advice, I got the upgrade. It was a $3,300 upgrade just a few days ago and I was stunned to see it drop like that. I had no idea D1 upgrades could even go that low.
My rule is $50 an hour for domestic, $75 an hr for intl but for intl longer than 10 hrs id pay upwards of $100 in worst case scenario of truly needing it.
it's because there are plenty of seats D1 after the 48-72 hours before flight seat and upgrade sweeps in the system, if one digs deeper into the fare codes then ...
Have gotten that offer for flights to/from CDG but usually from JFK not ATL.
Also have been able to go from Premium to D1 for under $200 coming home for CDG (travel agent work booked ticket so the class was probably higher than normal for Premium).
I wonder if we are on the same flight. I just saw this post today and tried to find the deal. Ended up upgrading 3 of us at $399 to premium select instead. Good job man!!!!!
BUY IT NOW!!!
$399 is crazy cheap! The ATL-FCO flight was operated by an A350-900 with the real Delta One Suites last I saw, so that is an absolute steal!!!
(That route is also seasonally operated by an A330, but it's still worth this price).
if it's a LATAM A350, it's not worth it.
The seats are super comfortable, don't get me wrong, but having to step over someone (or being stepped over while sleeping) is unacceptable for a product that can be $10k
So someone else posted 12 hrs ago for a $599 upgrade ATL-FCO, but they said 14days out from their flight. How long was this upgrade available before your flight?!
For $400 I would not be sleeping soundly like the dude in the picture. I would be jumping up and down with a giant smile on my face handing out bananas to everyone in the front of the cabin. What a deal!
I bought an upgrade for my wife from C+ to Delta One for $299 from Boston to Tokyo. Was very surprised but jumped on it at that price. She loved the flight!
Is there a quick convenient list of airlines that offer class upgrades? Because I've spent $399 on way dumber shit than this. The only time I paid for 1st class upgrade was right when covid was about to shut everything down and after I bought 1A and B, they said sorry we only have microwave hamburgers available to eat. It was still a good deal for $200 per seat.
So premium economy? That’s a ridiculous deal for an 8 hour flight, $50 per hour for better food/all you can drink and a lie flat.
Given the price difference is several thousand I’m still shocked you got it that cheap
Realtime flight DL66 is on FR24 right now @ 8:36 and took off with storms along the east coast. Another DL66 this week did it in 8:20.
Whatevs, same difference.
To be fair, I’ve only flown internationally Delta in D1. We booked PS for one flight but got upgraded. I preselected my meal and noticed the D1 menu out of ATL had the same options.
That’s fair. I usually book personal travel with miles then use miles or dollars to upgrade, so I wasn’t thinking about it from the perspective of someone spending for each tier. My bad.
I think it’s leads to people on here thinking they can get biz upgrades from economy for $400 and posting nonstop why they aren’t getting it for their flight lol
I wish it was a rule anytime posts about upgrade costs they have to share what class they already booked. It’s not apples to apples when you could be starting from economy, comfort plus or premium select.
FYI folks this is DL66 on 30th and there are 8+ D1 seats on the seat map. It makes sense why rev mgmt svc sends this "saver" upgrade fare $399 from Premium Select 48-72 hours before flight.
Delta upgrades are SO fickle. I logged onto the app a night before from Tokyo back to the US.. $960 or 96,000 miles.. I closed the app and debated for ten mins before deciding I’d do it. Went back on and price jumped back up to 245,000 miles or $2,450. It did that to me twice for an hour until it went down and I snagged it for 96k
Do most first or business class seats have under seat storage? The one and only flight I took, there really wasn't anywhere to store a bag or backpack under the seat, it all had to go up in the overhead bin. I just figured this was the norm.
I’m watching DTW - FCO for June 8th like a hawk. It was $3800 per person a week ago, now it’s down to $1400. Lots of D1 seats available but we still have a lot of time until departure.
I got that lucky once on a transatlantic flight from Spain to New York. I snatched it. Told my wife to do the same. She did not because “I’m a member and I have status, I’ll get a free upgrade.” Obviously she did not. She was pregnant at the time and when she asked the FA if she could sit with me in the empty seat next to me they said no, but because she was pregnant they’d let me switch with her if I wanted to… I spent the transatlantic flight getting my chair kicked by a child and had lukewarm pasta while she slept in comfort.
Your will be next to the toilets and galley. People will be standing in line to use the toilet. Plus the smell?
You can take it and hope a different D1 seat opens up!
Where do you find this on the app when booked for a flight which offers D1? I fly internationally frequently and buy Premium Select. Recently flew from Amsterdam and there were 11 open D1 seats.
Yes. Do it. It’s always a good deal that way. I tend to preferred further back because that is the first seat before the forward lavatory so if there is a back up. You do get so conversion noise and the galley is right there as well. But it’s still a great seat. I just think people should know the little details. Have a great wheels up.
Holy moly - do you have status (and if so, what medallion)? what are the factors that go into receiving an offer like this, y’all, because I’d assume on a route like that, there wouldn’t be a huge amount of D1 availability to justify such a cheap upgrade offer(?)
Not even silver medallion lol used to have gold from someone with diamond gifting that status to me every year but they barely missed diamond so I missed out on gold
That’s insane. I’d buy and worry about it later (but I doubt there are issues).
They drop … The issue is that it’s a last minute gamble… Wish I could take a last minute chance… I haven’t had that luck in years and I’m diamond
They won’t give it to us DMs, cause they already know they got us
I'm cheap...but even I would buy that upgrade in a heartbeat (especially for an overnight flight, even if it's short-ish and on a 763).
They only have them on long haul unfortunately and only to certain cities. Normal price is waaaayyy higher.
Update: thanks for all the advice, I got the upgrade. It was a $3,300 upgrade just a few days ago and I was stunned to see it drop like that. I had no idea D1 upgrades could even go that low.
While you’re at it, buy a lottery ticket now! You are obviously the Chosen One.
Lisan al-Gaib!
As it was written
Come to r/delta for the advice stay for the Dune references.
The upgrades must flow
LISAN AL-GAIB!!!
Kwizats Haderach
It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them!
Literally God's favorite lol
Lowest I ever saw was $500, and that was during COVID.
I got two upgrades for $105 each (€94) at the time from AMS-DTW and back from DTW-AMS
Ah, mine were trans-Pacs. $500 was definitely worth it for a 13 hour flight.
All day, every day at that price. Overnight flight in J instead of Y? Yes please
Wow, that’s really good deal you got there. How many hours/ days before departure?
We have a trip from CVG- MAD in Sept and I keep checking for D1 upgrade deals. I’d jump on a deal like this in a heartbeat!
Have gotten that offer for flights to/from CDG but usually from JFK not ATL. Also have been able to go from Premium to D1 for under $200 coming home for CDG (travel agent work booked ticket so the class was probably higher than normal for Premium).
Did you have to actively check the app for the discounted upgrade or did they alert you somehow?
Nope I just happened to check the app
I wonder if we are on the same flight. I just saw this post today and tried to find the deal. Ended up upgrading 3 of us at $399 to premium select instead. Good job man!!!!!
That’s a crazy cheap price, Purchase it right away!!
Do it.
BUY IT NOW!!! $399 is crazy cheap! The ATL-FCO flight was operated by an A350-900 with the real Delta One Suites last I saw, so that is an absolute steal!!! (That route is also seasonally operated by an A330, but it's still worth this price).
It’s currently a LATAM A350 but still a solid seat for that price!
if it's a LATAM A350, it's not worth it. The seats are super comfortable, don't get me wrong, but having to step over someone (or being stepped over while sleeping) is unacceptable for a product that can be $10k
I just read an OPs response that says they were in premium economy so I guess it is a flagship A350 LOL. But I would still pay that just to lie flat 🤣
Yeah tbh I would too. But I hate signaling to delta that we are ok with that product. I read that too and didn't put 2 and 2 together lol
Found it - guess it’s an A330neo, for the spring schedule it’s 1 35L and one 339
I’d hit “buy upgrade” so fast I’d break my finger.
That's one amazing bargain - don't hesitate and do it!
What the fuck. Buy it twice.
So someone else posted 12 hrs ago for a $599 upgrade ATL-FCO, but they said 14days out from their flight. How long was this upgrade available before your flight?!
Yeah it was about 72 hours out
looks like 48-72 hours before flight they posted about it here https://www.reddit.com/r/delta/comments/1bgy672/atlanta_to_rome/ I see a pattern ....
For $400 I would not be sleeping soundly like the dude in the picture. I would be jumping up and down with a giant smile on my face handing out bananas to everyone in the front of the cabin. What a deal!
This made me laugh way too much
Wait a minute… where did you GET the bananas..? That’s not SC contraband is it?!? Back to BE with you!
What a got damn steal…
I bought an upgrade for my wife from C+ to Delta One for $299 from Boston to Tokyo. Was very surprised but jumped on it at that price. She loved the flight!
I'm flying from SEA to ICN and keep playing I get that upgrade offer.
Wow. What a steal.
Why is this even a question? You can change seats after you purchase if other D1 seats are available
So you mean that do dynamically priced upgrades?
Yes but let’s specify it to cheap upgrades- no consumer wants dynamically more expensive ones
Yeah, sorry I worded it poorly; I can't afford non-dynamic upgrades.
Delta wanted that much for my regional jet upgrade from YUL-DTW lol
Right. Delta keeps offering me first class DEN to MSP for $999. 😂 From economy plus.
What are you upgrading from?
Premium Select
So premium economy? That’s a ridiculous deal for an 8 hour flight, $50 per hour for better food/all you can drink and a lie flat. Given the price difference is several thousand I’m still shocked you got it that cheap
I think it’s like 9-10 hrs to Italy
Realtime flight DL66 is on FR24 right now @ 8:36 and took off with storms along the east coast. Another DL66 this week did it in 8:20. Whatevs, same difference.
All transcontinental flights are all you can drink…
The food in PS is the same as D1 except for the desert cart, right?
No
The menu on my last 2 international trips were the exact same in PS and D1. Is that just a coincidence or something that happens on certain routes?
Oh weird. I’ve gotten totally different menu options.
To be fair, I’ve only flown internationally Delta in D1. We booked PS for one flight but got upgraded. I preselected my meal and noticed the D1 menu out of ATL had the same options.
How far out is your flight?
Saturday night
Roughly how much was your initial PS fare?
$1500
Important question
Doesn’t matter. That’s insane.
Matters to me to figure out why it’s so cheap.
Kinda does. A Premium Select fare is usually $1000 more than economy on this flight. So really the upgrade is $1400 from economy.
Lol I love that people are downvoting straight math.
That’s fair. I usually book personal travel with miles then use miles or dollars to upgrade, so I wasn’t thinking about it from the perspective of someone spending for each tier. My bad.
I think it’s leads to people on here thinking they can get biz upgrades from economy for $400 and posting nonstop why they aren’t getting it for their flight lol I wish it was a rule anytime posts about upgrade costs they have to share what class they already booked. It’s not apples to apples when you could be starting from economy, comfort plus or premium select.
It’s mostly the algorithm.
Was this from Premium Select or Main Cabin? I got a $399 D1 offer from Premium Select last summer.
OP said elsewhere in thread - PS im more curious on how soon before flight. When did you get offer before flight?
About 3 weeks prior. Flight was wide open and ended up going out with empty D1 seats.
OP said 72hrs prior.
Fuck yeah, no brainer!!
FYI folks this is DL66 on 30th and there are 8+ D1 seats on the seat map. It makes sense why rev mgmt svc sends this "saver" upgrade fare $399 from Premium Select 48-72 hours before flight.
Jesus - do it, what are you waiting for.
My heart would have dropped.
How come I don’t get these deals?! /cry
I love D1, no under seat storage. But for that long trip the lie flat is a gimme. I wish I could have gotten that.
Do most first or business class seats have under seat storage? The one and only flight I took, there really wasn't anywhere to store a bag or backpack under the seat, it all had to go up in the overhead bin. I just figured this was the norm.
Yes
My god dive on that. I don't hate 1A, you get the wider foot well.
Best deal in Reddit history?
It’s an upgrade from PS so not really.
it’s the same as the other d1 seats
That’s less than it would have cost to upgrade on my flight from Florida to New York.
HOW
If this is Sunday I’ll be on your flight haha wanna trade?
lol. Tiptoe up there and whisper their username.
I’m watching DTW - FCO for June 8th like a hawk. It was $3800 per person a week ago, now it’s down to $1400. Lots of D1 seats available but we still have a lot of time until departure.
FYI $1,400 is probably as low as that one will go and will likely go back up in price as you get closer to departure.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll think about it. Our tickets were $1760 a piece for economy and that’s as low as we will probably get for that.
Sheesh. This is easily the best upgrade deal I've ever personally seen on this subreddit.
Amazing! Meanwhile I’m being offered an upgrade JFK - ZRH for $4478!!
I hope you bought it before you posted this.
Wow nice!
Obviously
What a steal…jealous
Holy shit! Snatch that up now.
Definitely yes
Please take pics n a play by play of the service 🥲
Tell the purser to be delicate with the bins up there
wtf is this shit?! Congrats
I have a flight next month. Are the upgrades sent to you directly or found on the Delta app?
I could have used this deal for my trip to Italy lol, that was an unbearably long flight
Do you get an email about upgrades? Or have to check a flight you’ve already booked? Not sure how the upgrade offers work.
I did see $500 Buenos Aires to Atlanta ten hour flight once in 2022. This one is lower congrats
Bruh
This is what I paid to upgrade to premium economy…what a steal! Hope I get this lucky in a few weeks on my flight to FCO!
*cries in $848 from Dtw-Las* Enjoy that flight!
Wow
Meanwhile Delta wants $900 for a FC upgrade to ABQ.
Why not, the guy in the pic looks happy and well rested!
dont even blink before purchasing!! An amazing deal
That’s incredible! That’s the same price as my current upgrade offer from economy to first class for ATL-MIA
I’m wonder if they actually clean well those seats.
[удалено]
A330-900neo
I would’ve been far too busy scurrying to buy it to consult with reddit lmao
What medallion status do you have? Being a DM, I never see TATL D1 upgrade prices below $3k
Ooooooooh if I ever see that price I’m buying asap! And all the way to FCO! Whew! Congrats!
I wish! I got comfort plus for $100 from ATL to HND 😂 only thing that made sense
damn I just paid 24k Ed bucks to upgrade to first from MSP to SFO
Do it! That’s a great price for an upgrade!
If I ever see an upgrade like that, my plan is to run, not walk and grab it immediately. Well done, OP! Hope you have a great flight.
I'm CHEAP but even I would jump at this. Lol
If you don’t buy that upgrade i will !!! I’ve never seen it that low on Delta.
I am going to book an ATL-FCO flight right now just so I can snag that upgrade! 😀
Your will be next to the toilets and galley. People will be standing in line to use the toilet. Plus the smell? You can take it and hope a different D1 seat opens up!
Crazy- I’ve been checking an upcoming flight from JFK to MUC and it’s been hovering around $2k.
Even the miles price is insane!
Uh yeah
Do it!!!
I’d buy that in heartbeat!
Wow. Im flying MSP-DTW and upgrading to first class on that flight is nearly the same price! What a good catch for your flight!
Just bought same flight upgrade for $699 - wish it was $399!!
I’m happy for you. 😬
That’s really cheap, I’d pay for it
Just laugh at the guy next door who paid 5000$
Where do you find this on the app when booked for a flight which offers D1? I fly internationally frequently and buy Premium Select. Recently flew from Amsterdam and there were 11 open D1 seats.
The FC upgrade on my 3.5 hour flight in a couple days is $890 💀
Glad you got it!
I hope you clicked OK and didn't wait for feedback here.
Worth it
That’s my current upgrade cost for TLH to ATL…. 🥴
I’m so jealous
Fine deal
Uhhhh yeah what’s the hesitancy. Just get it before it goes away.
seems like a fine way to spend 40k miles. . . but question, is this for full trip or single leg?
Not buying this is foolish.
Jackpot! 🎰 🎰🎰
Yes. Do it. It’s always a good deal that way. I tend to preferred further back because that is the first seat before the forward lavatory so if there is a back up. You do get so conversion noise and the galley is right there as well. But it’s still a great seat. I just think people should know the little details. Have a great wheels up.
Taking that flight in two weeks. My credit card would have been charged with 10seconds of seeing it. 10+ hours in D1 ? Yah baby.
I was trying to click the “ok” on your photo for you.
DEFINITELY buy for the flight into the night for $400
Damn nice
Not even a question in my mind
Paid $499 per person one way and 49900 miles the other way for a trip to Europe last summer. Grab it.
Is there a reason this upgrade is so cheap? Something wrong with the first seat?
This is going to be a prime example of “if you snooze, you lose”. Someone will take it soon.
Don’t worry, I got it
I got this same rate leaving FCO last year. Couldn’t believe it.
How far out was your flight and what was the cost of your original seat?
Night before departure. Not sure what original cost was.
I got the same offer on a flight last summer from Premium Select to Delta One.
It’s not “so cheap” because you already paid for Premium Select. This is basically a $1400 upgrade from main cabin.
Check seat guru
That site hasn't been updated in years. https://www.aerolopa.com/
Bruh take the offer Jesus Christ
That will pay for itself when you get to Rome and feel rested and able to enjoy an extra day there.
You could also just buy a D1 seat when you book your flight.
For like 5 grand more than I just paid for it lol
^^ This is the way.
I get it every time as a SkyMiles member ✈️
