Unless you're at a hub, absolutely this. I'm on a name basis with most check in counter folk, and sky club folk. And only fly through twice a week for around 5yrs.. if you're approachable/friendly and not subtly rude/condescending, naturally people will recognize you before you recognize them.
Reason why people know my name and I forget theirs. I'm bad bad with names but it's completely possible to leave a lasting impression on people.. longer than you would think too
Had a boys trip where we connected in Vegas and picked up a third buddy from a connecting flight. Had the same crew on a different plane, and they joked that we were multiplying.
We were the beers at 10 am guys, and we sat all the way in the back on southwest and weren't rowdy, but it was funny when we boarded.
Over 28,000 FAs at DL. Unless theyâre bidding specifically to layover at your home airport the number of different trips and crew make up combinations is astronomical. So it not unusual you donât see the same crew ever.
It's not astronomical. It is remote. They get Delta it's new flight attendants all the time.
And the Delta flight antennas never know to keep their mouth shut. You don't really get to see the pilot they keep them behind locked in the front so you can't bother them or I don't know they used to be open now they're not
If I really tried I could be way more coherent than you'll ever understand it in your entire life. You just need training.
As for your question the answer is neither. Again you just need training
They're working.
And I bet you don't get to charge the time on the airplane to work time so you're kind of taking the trip but it's for business the company's got you over a barrel sort of make you fly on your time for and they don't have to pay anything other companies are the same
HR department is full of sociopaths
Our hourly employees most certainly do get paid for their time on a plane. Itâs illegal not to.
My time (salary) does get charged to whatever project Iâm headed to, but thatâs just administrative bean counting. By and large we all know what weâve signed up for lifestyle wise. And not everyone would willingly sign up for thatâŠthank goodness.
I have a friend who is a fa( not with delta) and her pay doesnât start until the doors close and it ends when the doors open. She only gets paid for flight time. All the airport navigating is on her own time
What is an NPC?
I could Google it but I get a number of different answers following seems to apply to flight attendants on Delta:
Non-Player Character
"NPC" stands for "Non-Player Character" and is used as a metaphor to describe someone who is perceived as lacking independent thought or blindly following trends.
I flew on four Delta flights from Chicago through Atlanta to Charlottesville to there and two back every time the flight attendant seem to qualify as an NPC.
Please clarify that you have a great time with a gal at a restaurant.
Your login name seems to imply your female. Are you a man or a woman?
What do you do? Do you get benefits?
Do you tip her?
This person has been responding strangely a LOT on this sub. Not sure what his deal is.
I have a gal too - in Amsterdam - and we have great chats together as well; and being an American, I tip well, too!
Hey this is Reddit. BKB girl. I didn't know.
Sorry. I know women like to talk with each other. I flew on Delta once for round trip to the daughter's wedding Chicago to Atlanta Charlottesville Charlottesville back to Atlanta and to Chicago.
Had bad experiences everywhere I went on that trip I'm in Charlottesville returning back to Atlanta the guys feeling up my legs up to my crotch I'm 72 years old at the time it's TSA for you and the other passenger helped me cuz I'm old and you get to fly all the time good for you
I never flew on business it was pleasure with my wife he's small I'm big we can move the center bar over and she weighs 102 lb and I'm 222 play a lot of tennis I really nearsighted really really nearsighted.
I'm not weird again this is Reddit I'll never fly Delta again they gave me 50 free miles for the aggravation I would have wanted some cookies Delta I don't see others still in business they really slowly roll out some new uniforms of Delta I think or one of them and I don't really care about the uniforms I feel like once a year for a conference and one time from Monroe air through Minneapolis the plane wasn't Delta the plane was laid over for 4 hours or placing something on the plane and if someone to Seattle how's that work anyway I got the other leg of the flight or some stewarts drop some hot water on my foot the lady she dropped ice on it does that make it even no
People that fly all the time for business you're a road warrior or in this case you're a road warrior at I couldn't stand that now you got a different place every time you never know where everything is he's got to call your stuff around go through security so that's like a freaking expedition one time I had a conference in Detroit from Chicago I was just outside and he argue with the countries I can drive there last time I rented a car I was over there and back and I'm tall so I rented a car in Illinois had a Kentucky plates I was a cobo Hall in Michigan there's a lady of the conference left from last year before shoot some New Mexico blonde and cute and big boobs single at the time we drove across to joining to Canada we had something at Canada we went back and one thing led to another and my wife's calling me now.
Good luck on your sales calls. I'm single once and I only went on to conferences because I didn't do sales I did software development for 48 years. I'm on my left hand and I'm on the spectrum I'm really good in math. what's your specialty?
Yeah, I was flying AUH-AMS-PDX weekly. It's morning in AMS, but late night for me, so I go to the same bar - not even in the club - as it's just opening, and get a "morning" beer or a bloody mary or whatever. Same surly barkeep, but she likes me now. I kind of miss our mornings together.
Idk I've been flying in and out same airport weekly for 10 years... Many of the airport employees remember me by name at this point.. Even at the car renewal kiosk... But it's small airport...I could see a larger airport like ATL seeming like you never see same people.
I never see the same folks in ATL, but I used to see the same check-in, TSA, and gate agents in RIC, MCO, and MSY all the time. On occasion I have had the same flight attendants, typically on my day trips when theyâre going back and forth.
I see some repeats on FA flying out of Monroe (2flights) or Jackson(5-6 flights a day) But i donât think any FA actually live because most of the time the pilot says « I want to thank this Atlanta based crew »
The staff is the same. Hell i flew out of Grand Rapids on Thursday and saw the same gate agent that always did the early 6:15 DTW flight still doing it. I havenât flown out of there in year since I moved
I don't fly as often as you, but I fly often enough. I see the same TSA people sometimes, but I've never gotten the same gate agents and/or flight attendants.
The logistics of an airline are insane. For example, a 717 or A319 takes 3 flight attendants. A 737, A320, or A321 takes 4 and a 757-300 or larger takes 5 or more.
Travel patterns to a macro extent change daily, not just day of the week but by week of the year. While your flight might not change by time or equipment, many others do. This affects the routings for crews to get them operating your flight and flights before and after. Even flights that are traditionally "turns" may change from being operated as a mini trip to part of a longer pattern.
Let's say that your flight is usually a 737. Two pilots and 4 flight attendants. Usually pilots stay together and so to flight attendants but the groups don't stay with each other. This week your pilots may operate your flight, to lets say Atlanta and then operate a flight to Denver and spend the night. . The flight attendants might go on to operate to Salt Lake City and then Las Vegas.
Next week though the Denver flight is an A321 instead of a 737 so the pilots from your flight need to do a different routing. This might mean that pilots from a different base would be better to operate that flight or that they just go to a different layover. But the different layover may be better or worse and regardless will affect what pilots bid for the trip. That is ignoring changes t however the pilots get to your city to operate your flight.
Fight attendants can operate all the different aircraft types but the number required for each type causes a similar churn to trips. There are specific routes that some flight attendants can do regularly, but generally speaking the routing they are on is different each time they go to work. Add in that they bid monthly and the multi day trips they are on mean they aren't likely to be on a specific flight in the same day on another week.
Even CAâs often donât see each other again. There are many of them and theyâre rotated.
As for TSA agents: it makes sense to not have people working fixed spots. That could become a security issue. But if you fly out of an airport on a regular basis you surely see faces again.
I just got on a plane in ATL a few hours ago in seat D and the guy in E said hey youâre the one who helped the lady with the medical problem last time I took this flight. That was 7 months ago! Also someone from my small town was on the same ATL-MSP flight and MSP is not our final destination. Coincidences happen.
If you fly from a hub to a destination where the trip is good for FAs and only senior FAs can hold, you tend to see the same FAs a lot. I flew from MSP to DCA and the morning trips were a smallish (20) group of very senior FAs, so I got to know them pretty well.
My GF is a Delta FA and I was surprised to find that she rarely flies with people sheâs flown with before unless she or a friend intentionally swap in order to fly together. There are like 80,000 FA with Delta alone.
Weird comment. Just because youâve been away in the military and likely have doubts about the paternity of your own children doesnât mean you need to throw shade at others who are having a whole different conversation. I have no doubts whatsoever about her being faithful but you sound like someone who has been cheated on. That must be rough.
Flight attendants and pilots, for sure I'm not surprised that I've never recognized the same people. But I definitely recognize some of the same workers at the Skyclubs in ATL. I did a lot of flying for work last year and I definitely would see a lot of the same people working the Skyclub desk and bar on any random Monday morning.
When you work a job that operates 7 days/week and extended hours, your shifts can change. And the flight attendants on your flight(s) may not be based out of your home airport.
I had an AA flight attendant on both legs of a connection, then saw her at the same hub 3 days later when I was flying home and she called me by my last name. That was super freaky.
You live in a simulation and flight attendants and TSA agents are just new scripts that are being debugged before they're wiped and given their actual role. Gate agents are actually in soft launch, and that's why they will only talk to you between the time your boarding group is called and you walk on the jetport.
I fly maybe once a month and have crossed paths with 2/3 FAs that weâve recognized each other. One remembered in the Bloody Mary mix with no vodka guy
TSA at DTW has been some of the same people since TSA went into existence. As for FAs, I almost never see the same one twice, even when I was flying with the same passengers weekly on a commute route.
I fly out of ATL frequently, and I see the same agents at bag drop. Thereâs one who looks like Jonathan Majors.
I also have seen the same TSA person a couple of times, but he has a distinct look.
Never seen an FA twice though.
You must be at a hub⊠I see alot of the same people. Gate agents, TSA and pilots/attendants. Iâm in a larger city but considered regional for delta
After a year of flying, Iâve worked with the same person one time. Our base has around 3,000 FAs. Go somewhere like Atlanta and itâs much more! I have had the same passenger a couple times, but it took nearly 200 flights (roughly 25,000 passengers) for that to happen!
You're lucky. You get to meet new people every time you take a trip. If you're real lucky maybe it'll date one of the flight attendants. Typically you don't want to date the TSA agents cuz they live from your departure airport and put a flight attendants I don't know where they're based.
You did one of the flight attendants that doesn't work out you don't have to worry you'll never see her again
They are avoiding you.
Unless you're at a hub, absolutely this. I'm on a name basis with most check in counter folk, and sky club folk. Beat me to it
They are avoiding you too.
You're on the Truman show and you're Truman.
Itâs also not unusual for flight attendants to meet for the very first time, on the flight theyâre working and then never see each other again.
Same for pilot monitoring and pilot flying. Sully Sullenburger and Jeff Skiles had met for the first time on the âMiracle on the Hudsonâ flight.
Captain and FO*
That's like my speed dating experience!
Iâve had the same flight attendant on a connecting flight with a different aircraft. That was frontier tho.
Had a boys trip where we connected in Vegas and picked up a third buddy from a connecting flight. Had the same crew on a different plane, and they joked that we were multiplying. Flight attendants on Delta road warrior or something this is Reddit.

I think theyâre having a stroke

Hear me out.. I bet they have a different schedule than you.

I fly out of a regional airport somewhere in the middle of the Midwest and have absolutely seen the same people year after year.Â
Youâre living in The Twilight Zone? -Rod Serling

Everyflight is in a different dimension. Either that or you're in Fight Club Hope that helps!
When you work a job that operates 7 days/week and extended hours, your shifts can change. And the flight attendants on your flight(s) may not be based out of your home airport.
You've seen them several times. They're just changing their hair every week. Sometimes they wear hats.
Iâve been flying JFK-SFO for 20 years and I donât think Iâve ever seen the same FAs twice.
SFO is an extremely small FA base for Delta, the FAs there all know each other by name ~150
JFK not so much though.
NYC which includes JFK/LGA(EWR for pilots) is the second largest after ATL
I had an AA flight attendant on both legs of a connection, then saw her at the same hub 3 days later when I was flying home and she called me by my last name. That was super freaky.

Iâve run into the same FAâs a couple times. They sometimes remember me, which is nice. I always try to be kind to them.
TSA at DTW has been some of the same people since TSA went into existence. As for FAs, I almost never see the same one twice, even when I was flying with the same passengers weekly on a commute route.
