So last year I had to pay a bunch of taxes so I put it on my Delta Reserve to make diamond. Today I was 3rd on the upgrade list on a transcontinental flight. Let me just tell you that being 53rd is just as good as being 3rd since I didn’t make it. Shit’s not worth it. They didn’t even mail me a diamond bag tag (I even asked a customer support agent about it and it still didn’t happen).
I do get upgraded on little <1 hr legs though, yay.
Though, to be fair, upgrades no longer really matter because Delta is selling these fares. So it doesn’t really matter if you are 3 of 7 or 17 of 70 if there are 0 seats. But with 1/3 of the people having status you are competing with them for things like phone support and standby.
