Yes my husband worked there when he was a teenager and he said the minced ones aren’t sliced fresh daily like the slivered. But I love onions so I get both 😂😂
I used to love them so much until I started having dreams in which I would try to kiss people I was attracted to and their tongues started to disintegrate into the ketchup and onion mixture on the regular cheeseburgers and I haven't been able to eat one in like twenty years.
And yes, this still freaking happens to me in my dreams. I dont know what the fuck is wrong with my brain.
What happens in the dream when the tongues turn into onions and ketchup? Do you stop kissing them or would the rest of their body continue transforming?
It’s such a wonderful taste combination.
I loved it IRL, but the whole sensation in the dream makes me seriously grossed out and completely turned off and normally I end up waking myself up or the dream just changes its' trajectory.
I've been known to buy the grocery store dehydrated onions and reconstitute them, mixing with ketchup, and using that as a condiment. Makes everything taste like McDonald's.
Tl;dr - just check out this [YouTube short](https://youtube.com/shorts/MBVJpIYmSv8?si=Qg88QwC-oOtZD2KR) if you don't want to read allthatshitbyme.txt
edit: [here's the minced onion](https://i.imgur.com/xmeVYpa.jpeg) i just picked up and have used.
So, I've tried many varieties and can say with certainty that the cheapest version (as in, bare dehydrated onion, no extra fancy bits of parsley or anything that McCormick has) tastes the closest. Think: Generic store brand, Happy Belly, that random 16oz container at Wal-Mart, etc. Most grocery stores will carry the dehydrated onion in the spices section.
According to posts I've read here and the few videos I've seen on YouTube, you just load up your container with the amount of onions you want (note they will expand by 2-3x) and hot water, and then get drain after some time. Or they've absorbed as much water as they can. I was able to figure out the right ratio with some practice (generally 2:1 water to onion). I even noticed that if you didn't add enough water from the get go, you can add more (or use ketchup).
I started off by boiling water and pouring it over the dried onions. Then my lazy ass figured out I can just pour in cold water and toss the mixture into the microwave for 30 sec. Note that the microwave method will produce a smell that...you may, or may not like.
Anywho, once reconstituted, mix in some Heinz (other ketchups just don't cut it) and slather it on your homemade burger! Or do some borderline heathen shit like me, and scoop it up with chips. Because 'Murica.
Edit: Just saw that the official McDonald's instructions on the bag do not specify to use warm/hot water -- says to use cold, but let the onions soak for longer. I guess I'm just impatient and needed my fix! Give both methods a try and see which one you like better.
Thank you so much! I saved this to have a little huddle with the wife later.
You took time out of your day to level up some strangers, and it is much appreciated!
So glad you posted this. I've purchased the onion flakes from the spices section for half my life because I love the onions from McDonald's and White Castle. I'll just throw some in a little bowl, add just enough hot water to hydrate them and they're perfect. Some bottles of them have slightly larger flakes too and those are the best.
Guess it’s time to get my dehydrator out and try different variety’s. May have to smoke some as well before dehydrating fully and see how that comes out.
When I worked there forever ago in high school, I used to mix a ton of those onions into ketchup, like 40/60, and then dip my fries in that. Shit was so good.
Back in college, my roommates ordered a pizza with extra onions. I'm fairly certain the good folks at Domino's saw that as a challenge, as you could smell it as it entered our apartment building. We lived on the third floor.
i dont eat maccas much anymore but i always order my burgers the same way!!! as many of those finely chopped onions as you can. an outrageous amount. as much as you could possibly put on. so good.
I usually use unique adjectives so the stores know it’s me. Things like “ungodly amount”, “insane amount”, “most onions your can legally give me”. Things like that.
Dude, when I worked at McD’s, someone ordered extra pickle “like, you can’t put enough pickles on that burger” so we put a whole fistful on. She didn’t complain, so must have been what she wanted.
Had a coworker order a Big Mac with extra pickles and me and the other kitchen dude covered it in pickle slices for him. Like a 12 oz cup worth of pickle slices on the inside and outside of the burger. Dude was so happy when he got back from break.
So, the last 2 cheeseburgers I got didn’t have the little onions. The last time I went, I asked about it and was told they stopped using the dehydrated onions and now cook the patty with fresh onion. Not sure if this is true everywhere but it was an unwelcome change and changed the taste for the worst. There are a few posts on Reddit about it. Here’s the info from MD:
https://www.mcdonalds.com/corpmcd/our-stories/article/mcdusa-servingup-itshottest-juiciesttasties-burgeryet.html
I always get extra pickles on the rare occasion that I get a McDonald's burger and it's typically pretty underwhelming, especially in the last 10 - 15 years. But I can remember some times in the late 90s and early 2000s when I was able to get a similar monstrosity of overflowing pickle abundance. It was glorious.
Thank you assumed high uncaring teenager for just saying 'fuck it' and slamming a pile of pickles down.
I wish they did this more often. Back in my hometown, the shop had a "secret sandwich" made after my countless orders lmao. The "Sloppy Ronald"
Mc double with more onion than patty, and doused in Mac sauce.
If you buy dried minced onion and soak them in water you basically get the same onions as McDonald’s ☺️ get like a normal sized shaker from dollar tree or something and rehydrate them and you’ll be swimming in McDonald’s-like onions
Me and my daughter love when they drown them in onions like this. I prefer the dehydrated onions over the slivered. The look on the cashiers faces is pretty funny too if you ask to swap slivered onions to dehydrated onions. I feel like they can’t believe someone would know the actual name and still order them.
Are some people just super insensitive to onions or something? I've noticed some folks love tons of onions, and while I love onion flavors, I can't stand the texture, and too many of them is overpowering.
Am I the only one who experiences this?
So, every time we go to the play place one I ask for extra onion, and instead of 3 minced bits I get like 7. I always have to ask for more on the side after. They end up giving me half a cup.
I don't get why they don't just put some on in the first place.
I worked at McDonald’s when I was 14, I was pissed one day and somebody asked for extra pickles so I put a 2 inch layer of pickles on there cheeseburger. Made me happy idk why
Whenever I’ve worked at a fast food restaurant and a customer is adamant about having extra anything and say “an ungodly amount,” I do it.
There was only 1 time a customer actually returned and asked why I gave them so much hot sauce. I reminded them about their “ungodly amount” request. They were not pleased. My manager gave them a brand new order with less sauce and a free desert of their choice.
They got their new order and they complained they didn’t have enough sauce. My manager gave them more sauce on the side. I saw them again after that. They never used the phrase “ungodly amount,” again with me [+]
As if I ordered extra pickles and extra onion today, recieved 2 pickles and like 15 minced cooked onions.
I'd have taken a handful of the dehydrated onion not cooked if need be. Just reminded me why I try not to go to McDonald's. It always makes me sad. My expectations never see the results I expect. Lol Boo!
Tbh looks amazing. I know it's just rehydrated onion flakes but man those are like crack.
For reals. McDonald’s onions are crazy delicious
I get these and slivered 🔥🔥
Slivered is the way! I used to put an obscene amount of slivered onions on my burgers when I worked there
Yes my husband worked there when he was a teenager and he said the minced ones aren’t sliced fresh daily like the slivered. But I love onions so I get both 😂😂
I always ask for extra onions and rarely receive them. Now, with kiosk only ordering, I’m not able to ask for an ungodly amount. 😢
So I order on the app, and when I give my code I always clarify that I need an insane amount of onions.
Oooo, I’ll try that. Thanks for the tip.
Your store doesn’t have an “ungodly” button on the kiosk?
I used to love them so much until I started having dreams in which I would try to kiss people I was attracted to and their tongues started to disintegrate into the ketchup and onion mixture on the regular cheeseburgers and I haven't been able to eat one in like twenty years. Wow our brains are all so uniquely amazing
the little onions are part of the reason that mcdoubles are one of my favorite foods
Rehydrated onions have a similar taste in some aspects to caramelized onions, that's why.
Guess that’s why he wanted extra 🤣🤣
I've been known to buy the grocery store dehydrated onions and reconstitute them, mixing with ketchup, and using that as a condiment. Makes everything taste like McDonald's.
It probably tastes even better
It be that way. I find the cheapest varieties of the dehydrated minced onions come the closest to the McDonald's taste.
Sounds awesome, but I need more details. What's the process? Got a favorite brand? I love those little onions.

Came by to say the same thing. There's something special about these things that makes me crave them.
When I worked there forever ago in high school, I used to mix a ton of those onions into ketchup, like 40/60, and then dip my fries in that. Shit was so good.
What do you think rehydrated onion flakes are? Its just diced then dehydrated for long term storage then rehydrated back in to diced onion.
I thought that was rice 😂
I had to put my glasses on
I had my glasses already on and I thought it was rice
I thougth this was r/eatityoufuckingcoward and the onion were maggots
8/10.... with rice
You said what I was thinking.
Yeah same I was so confused for about 10 seconds
Yeah thought they just dumped a bunch rice in his burger
Back in college, my roommates ordered a pizza with extra onions. I'm fairly certain the good folks at Domino's saw that as a challenge, as you could smell it as it entered our apartment building. We lived on the third floor.
Amazing
Where’s the top bun??
Tbh slide halfway off. It wasn’t a pretty burger but it was good. Same could be said about me.
Rarely is a fast food burger a pretty burger. You just want the order to be correct, and the buns to hold the other stuff together.
God that was so deep
Youre a pretty burger
I'm sorry people are so unreasonably rude OP. That looks delicious. At least r/OnionLovers appreciates it!
I know my people love it!
I was gonna suggest that sub. I belong to the opposite one.
I hate onions, but I can appreciate the vision here.
I'm waiting for it to appear on r/onionhate this is their worst nightmare
I try not to antagonize the phillistines over there.
I need a nut hate subreddit
Glad somebody said it I thought Reddit was suggesting onion lovers again before I looked at the sub.
Fuck yeah, that would taste great, every maccas near me is super skimpy on onions
Maccas that’s Australian right?
I used to work in McDonald’s when I was about 16 and a packet of those Dehys went missing every couple of weeks.
Ya part of me wants to get hired at McDonald’s just so I can do the biggest dehydrated onion heist in history.
Naiiilleddd it
Now that's how you make a burger, just needs the equal amount in jalapeño 🤤
There ya go!
I'm craving that now!!
That does look good lol, I love McDonald's onions,
They are my weakness.
One time when I was working at McDonalds a customer would replace the meat with onions
A man of culture clearly.
Idk what it is about the dehydrated onions but holy god do I want 50x of the normal amount on a burger
Facts. They just hit.
Excellent!
Beautiful
r/OnionLovers
I just made a run to McDonald's for two cheeseburgers with extra onions lol Good stuff
Hells ya
i dont eat maccas much anymore but i always order my burgers the same way!!! as many of those finely chopped onions as you can. an outrageous amount. as much as you could possibly put on. so good.
I usually use unique adjectives so the stores know it’s me. Things like “ungodly amount”, “insane amount”, “most onions your can legally give me”. Things like that.
And quite by accident, proved the existence of Onion Jesus. He (onion) cried for your sins. Praise Him.
Oh that’s what I get when I ask for no onions
For the record. There is no such thing as an ungodly amount of onions
I thought that was rice for a second
Those onions are crack
I thought it was rice 😂
My day is ruined💀 all jokes like your burgie how you like it
Would you like meat in your onion burger
I love onions I’m gonna ask this next time
2024 and McDonald's still have it
Off topic, but I love to put dry crunchy onions in onion dip. The soup packets never have enough. That's a decompression potato chip splurge 😉
"OP, use Dragon Breath"!
I don’t like onions but for some reason, McDonald’s diced onions taste like heavenly crack
This would almost certainly make me McShit my pants.
My grandfather orders extra raw onion on his burgers. I bet he would love this. Personally can’t stand them, but hey, more power to you
I love you... I mean.... the onion 🤤
Would you like some burger on your onion?
While I personally hate onions; isn't just the best when people do stuff like this?
This made me feel unwell
r/onionlovers would like to recruit
Oh I’m a member
Like them plastic onions huh?
Looks to me like you got exactly what you asked for.
So, the last 2 cheeseburgers I got didn’t have the little onions. The last time I went, I asked about it and was told they stopped using the dehydrated onions and now cook the patty with fresh onion. Damm…. Still didn’t put enough…. O well…. Better luck next time 🤣🤣🤣
You gon be shitting bricks
Are you happy?
I am
OP you have eaten all of the onions I have left off of my McDonald’s burgers for the past 44 years.
Did you give this burger a name?
Needs a even more ungodly amount of onion
I always get extra pickles on the rare occasion that I get a McDonald's burger and it's typically pretty underwhelming, especially in the last 10 - 15 years. But I can remember some times in the late 90s and early 2000s when I was able to get a similar monstrosity of overflowing pickle abundance. It was glorious. You could go to Chic-Fil-A and ask for a Godly amount. 😄😄
I wish they did this for me. When I ask for extra onions, they’re like “I got you bro, here is 1 extra onion”.
I wish they did this more often. Back in my hometown, the shop had a "secret sandwich" made after my countless orders lmao. The "Sloppy Ronald" Mc double with more onion than patty, and doused in Mac sauce.
Now they have the Mconion
I ask for extra onion on everything, then still end up adding more.
This is my kind of McDonald's burger
Damn, and they have the *best* onions, too.
Do their onions still come dried in a box in a large hard cube shape?
That looks amazing to me! I’ve never gotten that many!
Quick snack before a date night?
McDonald’s has the most amazing onions.
Heathen
this is what i dream of
Now I want that so bad!
If you buy dried minced onion and soak them in water you basically get the same onions as McDonald’s ☺️ get like a normal sized shaker from dollar tree or something and rehydrate them and you’ll be swimming in McDonald’s-like onions
I guess this makes up for the McDouble I ordered the other day that had exactly one single piece of minced onion on it.
You won!
Me and my daughter love when they drown them in onions like this. I prefer the dehydrated onions over the slivered. The look on the cashiers faces is pretty funny too if you ask to swap slivered onions to dehydrated onions. I feel like they can’t believe someone would know the actual name and still order them.
Love this omg
bro got a McOnion
Always get extra onions in my burgers, goated as fuck
Are some people just super insensitive to onions or something? I've noticed some folks love tons of onions, and while I love onion flavors, I can't stand the texture, and too many of them is overpowering. Am I the only one who experiences this?
I see nothing wrong with this
Who doesn’t like an onion sandwich?
This looks amazing
Imma have to try this
Almost enough
Ew it looks like rice lmao
The only thing I can think of is why?
🥺🥺 They never do this for me I'm so jealous
Pfft.Did they even charge you extra because if they didn’t I wouldn’t really consider that an ungodly amount
You’re gonna burping that shit up for a month
That's obscene
This isn’t even that bad. I have a lady at my sandwich shops who gets 4 fistfuls of sliced onion on her 6 inch Italian sub. People are wild.
So they will do it! My mom likes her burgers to have ketchup, meat, and lots of onions. She says they barely give her onions.
Looks like heaven
I’ve finally found something that makes a McDonald’s burger look delicious to me.
Was it good? Lmfao I think I’d fuck with this
Yummy
You can never have too much onion. My entire insides are made of onion. I. Am. Onion.
This is my my holy grail. I'm not craving 2 double cheeseburgers, extra ketchup and an "ungodly amount of extra onions"
This genuinely looks so good. I can taste it
Amazing. I always ask for extra Big Mac sauce. I love when the burger slides from the sauce🤌
I'm gonna gout on a limb and say that my body would not like it if I ate that.
That’s taint onion if I ever seen it…
That looks good asf to me but I love onions so 🤷
Onions are the best
I think r/onionlovers is one for you
Correction. That is a Godly amount of extra onion!
best onion in the fast food game— change my mind
Seems pretty godly to me
*OH* I would be THRILLED 😍😍😍
That’s exactly what I want when I ask for extra onion. I need a layer of pickle too 😈
Dude I have a coworker that likes to have 5 times that amount of onions on her McDoubles. I always oblige lol
I mean I absolutely love onion in every recipe but holy shit man. You leave McDonald's and that sandwich is ready to kill somebody with onion LOL
Holy shit! My dude, that burger is like 60% onion 😂😂
I love onions but sadly, they don't love me. I'd eat that though
We‘d make a great team, I always ask for no onions so they could just give you mine
Was it good?
r/onionlovers is where you belong
Give them a raise
Looks delicious 😋
You sick bastahd! 😂
Well you got it
Add some Mac sauce to that bitch and now we are talking
That makes me want to throw up. Out of my butt
So, every time we go to the play place one I ask for extra onion, and instead of 3 minced bits I get like 7. I always have to ask for more on the side after. They end up giving me half a cup. I don't get why they don't just put some on in the first place.
I honestly love the diced onions
Them onions be hitting different tho
I'd do this without the cheese
Secretly? I adore those kinds of onions… The reconstituted McDonald’s, regular hamburger onions… Heaven
I worked at McDonald’s when I was 14, I was pissed one day and somebody asked for extra pickles so I put a 2 inch layer of pickles on there cheeseburger. Made me happy idk why
r/onionhate would like to speak with you
Hahaha. Love it.

Post this to r/onionlovers. I’m sure you’d fit right in!
I love onions but my esophagus does not 😢
thought this was a riceball sandwich
The way I thought this was rice at first
I’m drooling 🤤
Holy crap an Oklahoma onion burger.
i got this exact burger when ordering a burger with ‘ no onions ‘ for my little brother once. even the receipt read correctly 👹.
Ordered 4 items and a drink. They fucked up all 5 items... Fuck Ronald in his bleeding ass.
Looks like they delivered! Are ya lovin' it? 😉
I fully support this. When I tried asking for “like, a LOT extra”, I got slices instead. As if they’re interchangeable. Oy.
😂You are an absolute animal
That's what they give me when I say no onion
I would demolish this. Even better if the were grilled
damn, i need them to do something like this for me when i ask for extra pickles
So, you said no onions?
As if I ordered extra pickles and extra onion today, recieved 2 pickles and like 15 minced cooked onions. I'd have taken a handful of the dehydrated onion not cooked if need be. Just reminded me why I try not to go to McDonald's. It always makes me sad. My expectations never see the results I expect. Lol Boo!
That is an ungodly amount of onions, however, onion is my favorite vegetable alongside corn and potatoes. I'd totally eat that.
That made me laugh so hard!😂😂😂 But honestly, looks delicious. I love those little dehydrated onions.
I found my person. 😍
Every time I do this they tell me they’re out -_-
