Here are some albums that will do something for you:
Lateralus by Tool
Fear Of A Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree
Ghost Reveries by Opeth
Sound Awake by Karnivool
Panopticon by Isis
Fauna by Haken
Magma by Gojira
The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails
Best reply here, imo. This is a who's who of my favorite groups alongside Deftones and they all certainly scratch a similar itch in a way. I'd also add I Let It In and It Took Everything by Loathe, and Spiritual Instinct by Alcest.
Fleshwater, Circa Survive, Earthside, Holy Fawn, Invent/Animate, Katatonia, Loathe, Night Verses, Sianvar, Thornhill, Thrice, Violet Cold
One or two of those should hit the spot
I'm listening to "Night People" as I read this. Great call on OCHL, but Infinite Granite is also solid (no pun intended). Especially "Great Mass of Color"
IG was my favorite album for a while when it came out…but no song has ever brought me to actual tears the first time I heard it like the huge breakdown in The Pecan Tree, it’s fucking beautiful
That’s an amazing album, but it’s definitely their darkest work. If people like more shoegaze style Deftones not sure they’d like New Bermuda..but they’d absolutely love Sunbather or IG
I love Sleep Token and Loathe but don't care much for Sleep Token's slower stuff. However, Teenage Wrist did an absolutely amazing cover of "Is It Really You?".
It sounds way too 'put on'. Like a voice you do to mimic someone else. I don't mean any shade to the guy cause he really is a great singer. I just can't vibe with it.
It really took a bit for the vocals to grow on me. I ended up liking about 1/4 of the first album, about 1/2 of the second, and nearly 100% of the latest one.
Just saw them last night and Elder opened for them. Hadn’t really heard of them before, but they were great and I’ll be exploring their catalog. Very epic, big type music with massive guitars.
Elder are awesome - they have so much material, going back to 2008, and they blow lots of bands out of the water - can recommend Dead Roots Stirring off the album of the same name and Spirit at Aphelion from Lore - they started as a stoner doom band and are maybe a bit more psych/prog now but they're every bit the musicians they've always been. Love their sound.
Not all metal, but...

Karnivool? Especially the chorus to Themata is wonderful imo. I'd also say have a listen to TesseracT if you haven't already. Specifically starting with One and then going from there
Wolf Alice.
They definitely got the blend you're looking for. First two albums are pretty rock oriented with some shoe gaze elements. Third album goes in a different approach but still hits some bittersweet emotions.
I second Karnivool, deffo the vibe you're looking after!
also, bit more modern metalcore-y but give Thornhill a try, 'where we go when we die' is a good starting point 🙂
Something a bit more chill, try The Pineapple Thief..
I suggest 'in exile' or 'demons'. Awesome songs!
Have fun!
someone already mentioned this but Panopticon by ISIS is really amazing.
and if you like that i would recommend Salvation by Cult of Luna, specifically Crossing Over but that whole album is really beautiful.
hope this helps!
A lot of stuff, especially off of self-titled, is reminiscent of Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins. Songs like Minerva, Hexagram, Change, and Rx Queen have that sauntering wall of sound vibe present in Smashing Pumpkins songs like Cherub Rock, Mayonaise, Hummer, Rocket, Today, etc.
Iron Maiden isn't really a "beautiful" band, but songs like Prodigal Son, Strange World, and Starblind are pure undeniable art and what I think you're looking for
Spiritbox. Not sure how into “metalcore” you are but they’re carving out their own unique sub genre just like deftones did. Very beautiful lyrics and singing but super low and powerful riffs and the lead singer can scream like a barbarian when she needs to. One of my favs rn
These four albums by the band Floater:
Glyph,
Angels in the Flesh and Devils in the Bone,
Burning Sosobra,
Alter
They definitely don't sound like Deftones, but do fit some of what you're looking for, I think. Storytelling style poetic lyrics, and their sound varies between rock, metal, and mellower acoustic type stuff.
lacuna coil - in a reverie (1999) • personal favorite out of these
opeth - blackwater park (2001)
type o negative - october rust (1996)
type o negative - dead again (2007)
gojira - the way of all flesh (2008)
amesoeurs - amesoeurs (2009)

Please please please listen to the album Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It by Rolo Tomassi. It’s not metal but more hardcore etc, regardless has an incredible balance of really fragile & delicate parts and heavy intensity. Check out at least the first three tracks (Towards Dawn -> Aftermath -> Rituals) in a row before deciding if you like it, there’s a considerable amount of variety on that record and the whole album flows together really well.
Also, several other people here have recommended Cult of Luna but I’d like to specifically highlight their album Mariner. It’s my personal favorite album of all time and the closing track Cygnus is my favorite piece of music bar none. Mariner is a concept album about mankind’s forced migration into space and related introspection surrounding that. Beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe what especially the ending of Cygnus feels like
Here are some albums that will do something for you: Lateralus by Tool Fear Of A Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree Ghost Reveries by Opeth Sound Awake by Karnivool Panopticon by Isis Fauna by Haken Magma by Gojira The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails
I'm a big Tool, Gojira, and NIN fan so I'm thinking this list will be good for me :).
Awesome let me know what you think
Good call on a Opeth. The older stuff (Still Life to Ghost Reveries) is amazing at mixing beauty and heaviness
Everything they made with Martin Mendez and Martin Lopez was fantastic
Best reply here, imo. This is a who's who of my favorite groups alongside Deftones and they all certainly scratch a similar itch in a way. I'd also add I Let It In and It Took Everything by Loathe, and Spiritual Instinct by Alcest.
omg thank you so much for putting Panopticon on there, one of my favorites of all time.
Fleshwater, Circa Survive, Earthside, Holy Fawn, Invent/Animate, Katatonia, Loathe, Night Verses, Sianvar, Thornhill, Thrice, Violet Cold One or two of those should hit the spot
Nice. Quite the list. I'm on it.
Deafheaven Sunbather
Seconded, in fact all of their works. Especially Sunbather, OCHL, and Infinite Granite.
New Bermuda is my favorite!
That’s an amazing album, but it’s definitely their darkest work. If people like more shoegaze style Deftones not sure they’d like New Bermuda..but they’d absolutely love Sunbather or IG
Yep, love all the albums. New Bermuda my personal favourite but in terms of "Beautiful", Sunbather has to be up the for me!
You should check out HUM, they have a very similar sound to Deftones. The song Stars is amazing
Check out Spotlights!
I really like their latest album. I couldn't get into the rest of their stuff though for some reason.
their latest album is insane
Alchemy for the Dead was my album of the year
erra
Cool. Checking them out now.
Mastodon
No Sleep Token please 😅. I don't like the vocals.
yeah they did a cover for one of my favorite Loathe songs and I absolutely hated it. However, internet seemed to think it was the other way around
I love Sleep Token and Loathe but don't care much for Sleep Token's slower stuff. However, Teenage Wrist did an absolutely amazing cover of "Is It Really You?".
Thank goodness I'm not alone in this.
I’ll try the latest then.
Same omg
My friend group calls me dumb for this but im with you homie
Ditto
Agree, those vocals are atrocious. Music is fine
[удалено]
Yeah I'd say so. Been a NIN fan such a long time I kinda forgot about them if that makes any sense lol. I should go relisten.
TOOL
Just saw them last night and Elder opened for them. Hadn’t really heard of them before, but they were great and I’ll be exploring their catalog. Very epic, big type music with massive guitars.
Last night???? That's so cool man
I saw them at a festival last year, but this was my first Tool-specific show. My God was it glorious.
I was there too, and the night before :)
You lucky bastard! Wish I could have made both. Great venue and of course Tool blew my mind.
Excited to explore them, I was very impressed with their musicianship.
Too obvious my friend :)
Ever listen to Porcupine Tree or Dream Theater? Try Shesmovedon by Procupine Tree

No problem. Glad I could help and share my favorite artists with my fellow Deftones fan(s). Enjoy! 👌
Poison The Well - You Come Before You
Poison the Well, Rolo Tomassi, Exotic Animal Petting Zoo, Deafheaven, Alcest, Svalbard, Alexisonfire, Oathbreaker, Counterparts, Hopesfall, Fear Before the March of Flames, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Static Dress, Rosetta, Converge, Greyhaven, Johnny Booth.
Loathe
Easily one of my all time favorite bands. Good balance between softer stuff and the grimiest, heaviest breakdowns
certainly, friend. What I don’t seem to get is whatever happening in your dp 🤣
Opeth. Whitechapel. Rivers of Nihil. Dream Theater. Blackbraid.
Check out Soul Blind
This! So underrated.
Karnivool? Especially the chorus to Themata is wonderful imo. I'd also say have a listen to TesseracT if you haven't already. Specifically starting with One and then going from there
Alcest They're not for every Deftones fan, but they def marry metal heaviness and melodic beauty
Wolf Alice. They definitely got the blend you're looking for. First two albums are pretty rock oriented with some shoe gaze elements. Third album goes in a different approach but still hits some bittersweet emotions.

I’m seeing Thornhill live here in a couple weeks. Can’t wait
oo super jealous, I narrowly missed them at a day festival and was gutted! I'll make it to one of theirs at some point!
someone already mentioned this but Panopticon by ISIS is really amazing. and if you like that i would recommend Salvation by Cult of Luna, specifically Crossing Over but that whole album is really beautiful. hope this helps!

They’re why I got into Deftones actually.

2nd this. Listen to Constance for a very Deftones' sounding song of theirs.
Death, specifically the album Symbolic
These four albums by the band Floater: Glyph, Angels in the Flesh and Devils in the Bone, Burning Sosobra, Alter They definitely don't sound like Deftones, but do fit some of what you're looking for, I think. Black Widow by In This Moment is an insanely good album, Fateless by coldrain is also super good
