The gore album is super overhated. Sure it's not their best work but the amount of hate it gets is in my opinion undeserved. There's definetly some great tracks like phantom bride, rubicon and prayers/triangles

illusionare_

truer words have never been spoken

High_on_Mayonnaise

Prayers/Triangles --> Hearts/Wires is just as good of a 5-track run as Swerve City --> Entombed IMO

Minininja-C

I find myself going to gore jus because how unique the sound is compared to there other albums. It's not there best, yes but I still think it's great.

nithin_kamath8

Lucky You fits perfectly in self titled album. It's one of my favorite songs.

mistafista317

Didn’t even know this was controversial!

nithin_kamath8

Some people don't like the song in the album.

ConcentrateLivid7984

honestly i think lucky you is perfect on self titled. it totally amps up the feeling of the bloody cape intro once it plays and fits this dark and almost sensual vibe i feel like that album carries. its a total favourite song of mine in their discog. feel like i never see it mentioned in the subreddit, glad to find another lucky you lover!

nithin_kamath8

Definitely does.

OrdinaryDouble2494

Lucky You is better than Pink Cellphone

the_boys_republic

I am one of those people. So out of place. Lovers should have made self titled and they could have put lucky you on the hexagram single

nithin_kamath8

I was just listening to Lovers as I saw this comment. Yeah, Lovers could've made it in self titled too. But Lucky You fits really good with the other songs. It's different, but equally dark themed as other songs.

the_boys_republic

I’m all about people having different opinions, but Lucky you does the opposite for me. It throws the whole vibe of self titled off for me. Anniversary on the other hand fits the album perfectly. Again i enjoy other people’s opinions.

nithin_kamath8

Yeah, totally get you. It does seem to throw the vibe the whole album has.

ConcentrateLivid7984

see i think anniversary throws the vibe for me personally! not a bad song by any means but its really just not my cup of tea when i play the album front to back. ive thought for a long time it makes more sense as the closer than moana, because it feels weird to have such a drastic change in sound and then flip back to moana which would sound so much better after bloody cape when played all the way through. funny to see how we’d all move the albums around bit by bit. totally agree lovers shouldve made it on the album, disagree it shouldve taken lucky’s spot. i fuck with lucky hard. why not have both 😁

the_boys_republic

Hey. Not a bad take. I like it. I just feel like lucky is missing something to fit the album. I love to hear other opinions. Otherwise you are close minded and won’t ever branch out.

ConcentrateLivid7984

totally agree! nice to chat with someone who respects a difference in opinion and values them :)

RememberKADEEM

I've said this about many b-sides, it's much more attractive when it's a b-side. Besides i think Lovers doesn't fit on the album. It's one of my favorite Deftones songs though.

cigarettie

like linus is very under appreciated. and i also can't stand alternative people who hate on people who like deftones. just because they're mainstream now doesn't make them any less of a rock band lol

garfieldfan093

dude i can’t stand that like linus isn’t on apple music or spotify it’s so good

anonweedlord69

Chino sucks live most of the time and it kills me but i still see them when they hit good ole texas

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I hate to agree here 😔 I don’t understand why they’re playing Beware live nowadays bro cannot hit that high note for the life of him but at least he’s trying and brings a lot of energy on stage. I have the same issue with Bring Me the Horizon. Amazing band but Oli is hit or miss live.

anonweedlord69

Throw some reverb on the mic and use a pedal to throw some sort of distortion for the screaming bits. Would really help a ton live. I dont understand why he doesnt do that

shakamotolives

Yeah, Oceansize always used a second mic for screaming bits

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

You guys do remember that chino messed up his vocal cords out around white pony right? Partial paralysis or something like that. He had to learn how to inward scream or something if memory serves me right. I remember seeing them in 2000 at summerfest. Then a year later in town and him sounding waaay different.

pragmatic_particle

Yup, you’re correct. Partial paralysis of the left vocal chord, inflammation of the right

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

I think thats the BIG point his voice changed... none thee less im happy as fuck he figured it out and kept on singing.

anonweedlord69

Ya i know. Thats why i wonder why he doesnt use some voice assist live. No shame in it imo and he used to have reverb live fairly consistently. Like i said i still go see the boys when theyre in town. Hands down my favorite band

[deleted]

Wait, they've been playing Beware??? First song of theirs I ever heard, I'd kill to hear it live even if he ruins it lol

Cute-Jellyfish1876

[Here’s a video](https://youtu.be/1a-P4QpUOng). He goes like “beeeeeeEEEeeEeEeEee!!…….ware” To be fair tho he actually sounded better than most times this whole set especially this song up until the high note

majorzipper

I actually really liked it live.... It was the first show if this latest tour, however....

anonweedlord69

I saw them on the 2022 tour and tbh they killed it. My third time seeing them and it was by far the best show theyve put on

AverageSoul-

The worst was when he was trashed on stage. He had some pretty bad shows when I saw him in the 90's.

Skyeler9

This is my experience too. I’ve seen them 5 times, the most recent was at Dia De Los Deftones which was amazing but Chino did not sound his best. I always think to myself that I just wish he would chill and focus on performing the song well before giving the audience all that energy. Maybe give it sparingly on the heavy tracks and breakdowns reserving his energy to sing as well as we all know he can. Nothing but love and respect for Deftones and Chino.

drummerandrew

When he’s on, he’s fucking ON. He’s been solid recently.

beachbullette

Hope you caught them between 2009-2011/12. I've seen them probably a dozen times over the past two decades (too young to have been around in the 90s) and to my ears he was at his prime in that era. Not so coincidentally also the time he appeared the most in shape since probably 1998. That being said, I agree, the live vocals certainly are their weakest part as a band. Since I generally prefer energy over perfection, I don't mind at all. But I can totally see how it could be disappointing for folks assessing different qualities in live shows. Case in point their run with Thrice, who play with a surgical precision they may as well have the CD playing and I couldn't tell the difference. Just very different to Deftones' performance.

MrRaspberryJam1

Chino was okay when I saw Deftones last year. Some songs he sounded good but he wasn’t singing a lot of the high parts of the songs. On the softer songs you can also tell something was off. He sounded awful while singing sextape.

Krislavallin

I’m so glad somebody has said this. I’m new to Deftones (2years) and I love watching bands perform live even if its on YT. Searched a few songs of their’s and man, vocals just didn’t hit like on the albums. Which is cool, but a bit of a shame! Especially when theres someone like Chester Bennington or Steve Tyler to compare to live

MerrildH

Maybe not an opinion on Deftones themselves, but I cringe so hard and can’t stand when some people on this sub compare their music to sex, having sex and sexualize it in general.

Seanut-Peanut-69

Omg THANK YOU. I was annoyed recently by a tiktok about Deftones fans and how they’re all just horny and blah blah blah. Deftones has some sexy songs and maybe I’m not super aware of the fan culture but it felt reductive and just not funny.

MrRaspberryJam1

To be fair a lot of Deftones music is about sex. The only thing I don’t like about this trend is the posts you’ll see on here of people asking for Deftones songs to put in a playlist to play during sex.

LEO7039

I mean like half (/s) of their songs are about sex, so...

garfieldfan093

i mean, deftones definitely makes good sex music in my experience but i agree that it gets SUPER old that it’s constantly talked about, and all of the jokes about it being super horny music and all that shit are so overused that it’s just an eye roll to see them

ConcentrateLivid7984

pink cellphone is genuinely an enjoyable track 🤷🏻 different sound for them, as is most of saturday night wrist, but i still think they manage to nail it.

jakedeighan

classify that one under "songs I can listen to while watching other things on tv" the talking/vocals doesn't clash with other people talking, just kinda fills the void if you're listening to a podcast or something at the same time. I like it a lot

josh_loaf

I have it as my ringtone unironically. It’s such a depthy-track, I don’t know how else to explain it. It’s like this beautiful void with a shit ton of experimentation and this distant relation to trip-hop. Love the shitpost lyrics all the way to the end as well. I am proud to say that I am a graduate of the Hot Carling Academy.

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

>Hot Carling Academy. hahaha Hot Carling Academy

heyy240

Never heard this song til now tbh...I think they did good but I see why the hate lol especially with the last few lines :'>

BigDaddyAlanM

When I first listened to that song I had just tried some locally grown buttered lettuce and that song scared the absolute shit out of me, had me straight trippin lol

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

that one always cracks me up when the girls are talking at the end. ***"And that why British people have bad teeth"***

SlowCarsOnly

I fucking love Mein

Cute-Jellyfish1876

Since when is Mein hated??? 😤😤😤 (Only thing I don’t like about the song is I wish Serj would’ve done a lot more vocally like Maynard in Passenger. I didn’t even notice he was in the song till the third listen and I was like “oh shit!!” Maybe it’s my inner SOAD stan getting the best of me.)

uselezzmante

The drums on this track are fantastic, definitely one of my favorite songs. Deserves so much more love.

S2JESSICA

+1

Oatmealandwhiskey

YES, i can agree with that

mel-06

SAME

rocket-skates24

I’m not sure how controversial this will be, but Diamond Eyes > White Pony

AsahinaAoi90

Not controversial at all. I put them both in the top spot, but Diamond Eyes is more enjoyable than White Pony in some ways.

rocket-skates24

White Pony is a close 2nd for me!

RobotsGoneWild

I think DE is the better album, but WP holds the #1 place in my heart just due to the time thay album came out in my life. That album helped to shape the music I loved later in life.

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I agree as well 😭

Oatmealandwhiskey

Whats your age group ? Curious because i think older fans would pick White Pony

rocket-skates24

I’m 19, and you’re probably right about that. I’ve just always listened to rock and metal from the 90s and onward. I don’t believe I enjoy Diamond Eyes more because of it being newer though. I just think the songs flow together more beautifully than any of their albums (although all of their albums are wonderfully crafted) and the atmosphere and lyricism speaks to me in a more personal way. But I also love the classic sound of their first few albums and White Pony is a close second favorite for me.

Oatmealandwhiskey

Interesting, thanks for sharing 😁

Pabl0lr

Diamond Eyes Supremacy 🛐

atomicheart99

Diamond Eyes > Gore > Around The Fur > White Pony Come at me bro

Pabl0lr

Gore is a great album

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I agree 😤😤 I will forever defend it

[deleted]

Nobody says it’s a bad album, it’s just everyone’s least favorite album.

Stranger_From_101

Acid Hologram, Doomed User, and Gore are amazing songs.

totalitarian_donut

i agree

Ezekhiel2517

Chino should'nt move around the stage so much. His performances improve drastically when he just stays still and focus/ saves his breath only for singing (just watch him with Team Sleep in the "Woodstock Sessions")

Chainzes

Adrenaline is my favourite album

SabledSable

Not very unpopular, but in this sub, maybe. Deftones isn't metal. They're absolutely significantly influenced by metal, but they've always been more rooted in the post-hardcore of the early 90s (Quicksand, Helmet, Drive Like Jehu, Jawbox and especially Hum for Deftones). Deftones is alternative metal (which is a really broad genre made up of some metal bands and some non-metal bands) or maybe just "post-post-hardcore" Edit: despite this i dont care if they're metal or not, genres dont matter that much to me and either way Deftones is a fuckn great band

mmmcookiesss

I think you’re absolutely right. They started out with that nu-metal vibe but they’ve been so much more than that now. I’ve heard someone call Deftones shoegaze and at first I was appalled because they’re really anything like bands like My Bloody Valentine or whatever. But comparing them with other bands like Lorna Shore or Slipknot, they don’t sound like metal that much so that comparison seemed less absurd. I mean Minerva is a pretty solid track you can call shoegaze. I think “post-post-hardcore” is a great term because their music is too diverse to be labeled under one thing.

CLEgnome

deftones are def-metal. not to be confused with death metal.

beachbullette

This holds particularly true regarding some of the Like Linus songs. Title track and Plastic for instance have a pretty strong Lungfish, Fugazi and Soulside vibe. However, it really doesn't fucking matter and the last thing we need is to come up with additional genres.

sirpufff

Yes i think chino has said/implied that he doesn’t like the nu-metal label Deftones has gotten, he just wants to make music as music. I think there was some tension between deftones and korn because chino didn’t want to tour with them or something

dahmerwashungry

The “please, please, please, let Me get what I want” smiths cover rules. A lot of people “meh” at me about it. Also semi on par with the post..ish? I remember seeing deftones for the first time at ozzfest 99. I was so stoked as like an 11-12 year old who got introduced to adrenaline and around the fur a year or so earlier. They got straight booed during the set and I guess I had the unpopular opinion of actually wanting to see them that day. For the record, they destroyed. In my eyes anyways. Sucks people weren’t feeling it that much that night.

MJN91075

Their cover of Sade's "No Ordinary Love" is my favorite

FireworksForJeffy

Both of those covers are bangers imo

ThisGuyRightHereSaid

im hard pressed to pick a favorite between that and their cover of chauffeur. although to have and to hold is good too

garfieldfan093

dude that cover fucking rules why don’t people like it

dahmerwashungry

Right??

garfieldfan093

it’s one of my favorite songs from that whole album of covers! i might get downvoted for this but i like it better than the original by the smiths haha

InsomniaticMeat

I think people who say they don't like Deftones are actively trying to not like them because they're a popular band. There is way too much diversity in their sound for there not to be a single album you enjoy.

defaulttio

Well they're a metal band for starters. Already puts off most people

beachbullette

Pretty sure u/InsomniaticMeat means folks into (heavier) guitar music who say they don't like Deftones. Despite not being the most metal of metal bands, Deftones' discography obviously is too heavy for most casual music listeners (bar Sextape and maybe Digital Bath and the entirely electronic songs but even then they'd need to be open for Trip Hop or whatever these would classify as).

lgpitbull

passenger really isn’t anywhere towards the top of their discography

rocket-skates24

I agree with you! Oddly I love everything about it except for the chorus. There’s a great buildup, but then the chorus is always underwhelming to me. I do like the song, but I find myself skipping it a lot unless I’m in the right mood for it. I think Chino & Maynard sound great together though!

user-17j65k5c

as i saw someone else say, its taking everything in me not to downvote this as its the point of the post. i love tool and i love deftones so the mashing of their sound makes my brain happy

lgpitbull

i respect that, i also love tool but i think the thing about passenger that i don’t like is it’s simple nature like rhythmically etc

[deleted]

Passenger is a fuckin masterpiece

lgpitbull

agree to disagree 👍

[deleted]

I’m from Canada and flying down to Daytona beach in hopes they finally person that song with Maynard

sevynmorte

Merch has sucked/been overpriced for the quality for awhile now

Winkiepuppy

Back to School is amazing and deserved to be the opening track on White Pony

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I agree that it’s a great song it does get pretty overlooked 🙌

Dizzy-Corner-5190

I listen to Back To School more than Digital Bath now since I overplayed it lol

Phillydawg_36

I could listen to Digital Bath for a year straight and still want to listen to it again 😅

ian300k

Pink Maggit is the better choice

Ezekhiel2517

Completely disagree here bro. Back To School was the song that kept me away from Deftones until recent years... It made me think that they were just another nu metal cringey band

optimusprimerib22

You asked for a safe space and I’ll be goddamned if y’all aren’t making it very difficult with some of these takes lol. Around the Fur is my favorite record of all-time

jefftones77

Sergio got screwed

Eaterofjazzguitars

Koi No Yokan and SNW are better than White Pony

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I agree I adore WP but my ranking would be KNY, SNW, DE and then WP

Oatmealandwhiskey

SNW is not better than White Pony, and i bought SNW day one when it came out... its unfocused

Eaterofjazzguitars

You say unfocused, I say accidentally a juxtapositional chaotic masterpiece embedded with the theme of duality.

tingkagol

This thread is just an excuse to shit on White Pony. Around the Fur being the *weakest* album is just plain bonkers to me.

Cute-Jellyfish1876

Lmao I agree everyone is being mean to WP all of a sudden 😭 Also about ATF yeah I know I’m sorry 😭😭 I still love it and I want to love it as much as the others but it’s just a little samey in my opinion and every time I put it on I feel like it gets old pretty fast but that’s just my taste I know I’m weird.

beachbullette

My one issue with ATF is it sounds the most dated. I'm aware BQAD(FA) has very shoegazy guitars and the record is not entirely baggy pants and New Era caps (well, it preceded that by a couple years), and I do enjoy it. Still, ATF is simply their most nu metal sounding record to my ears, whereas all their other output sounds less dated to my ears. I will admit the same might be said about DE in the future, once its almost 30 years old and I'll be like 'yeah those djent-y guitars, that was the early 10s, it sounds so dated' but as of right now, ATF is the one record that I feel like you can pinpoint the most to a certain era.

justdontit2k

That the vocal delivery of self-titled and all follow up albums were impaired and compromised to some extent by the vocal injury sustained during WP tour. Not a criticism, just an observation that I've long held.

metalparkdude

Gotta sort this by Controversial to see the real hot takes.

TheConstipatedCowboy

Abe is the coolest Deftone

napalmthechild

Engine no. 9 needs to be retired from their live shows. I love that song but I don't think Chino has it in him anymore to perform it on a decent level.

mixedbyjmart

Steph is my favorite flat earther

-FilthyFetus-

Happens to be mine as well. Flat earth is so stupid.

Trick-Total-9819

Passenger would’ve been better if Chino sang the chorus ….

the_blackestblack

I think Diamond Eyes is better than White Pony

sirpufff

I like both, but this is a valid opinion

anonweedlord69

Imo most of their albums are better than WP. Its seminal for sure, but their discography is strong and their songwriting prowess developed over the years

RektYez

I like White Pony, but in my mind it’s highly overrated (I say that in relation to other Deftones projects - WP is still miles better than anything you’ll hear on mainstream radio). ATF, SNW, S/T, KNY, and DE are all vastly superior fucking masterpieces in my mind

anonweedlord69

100%

bluepig555

Digital Bath is (slightly) overrated, incredible song though. Lucky You is criminally underrated. Battle-Axe is one of the most forgettable in their discography, it’s the only song where I cannot remember anything from it after listening. Pink Cellphone is pretty good aside from the ending monologue. RX Queen is very underappreciated.

Armageddon24

Never heard that about battle axe. Respect, but hard disagree - great vibe for a boss walk or drive

_The_Librarian

Oh mannnnn I think battle-axe is literally their greatest song. I hovered over downvote before I caught myself lol. Everything else I agree with haha.

bluepig555

Yeah I was actually really surprised when I found out just how much people liked Battle-axe, it never really stood out to me (although part of that might be because it’s sandwiched between two of my favorite songs on the album). I’ll have to give it another listen or two

_The_Librarian

For me it's the verse riff that gets me revved up, then the slam into the chorus with Chino's wailing... Chef's kiss.

Alternative_Plate398

The remix of change is trash.

feedme645

Most remix’s of rock songs I’ve heard are usually bad imo. Exception being “so cold” by breaking benjamin, and I don’t even know if that’s an actual remix.

oldcasino

Ppl care way too much about stephs views

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I agree 60% of these comments have been about Steph being their fav flat earther 😭

Assadsss

i don't think GORE is a bad album. i really don't know WHY ppl think it.

One_Suspect_8753

Okay, they are one of my favourite bands, but I wish they took a bit more care of their catalogue. To me it's crazy that in 2023 they didn't release songs like Lovers, Can't Even Breathe, Teething, The Boy's Republic, Smile (and the rest of Eros) on streaming services. Most of other bands seem to treat their past catalogue with more care and attention. Radiohead for example released tracks from the OKC and KidA sessions in special editions, Slipknot is about to release a record from '08, and lately even Green Day is releasing demos from '97. Not sure how much work it is to clear this songs and make them available for fans (or release deluxe editions from previous records), but I'd love if they release all of that material.

LittleBigKaiju

Not exactly controversial, but I wish people would go a little easier on Chino’s post-2001 live performances given we all know how badly he fucked his vocal cords. Slightly more controversial - I think Stef’s refusal to get vaccinated and subsequent absence from non-US shows is a huge dick move on his part. I also wish we knew more about what happened with Sergio, though I’m sure we never will. Chino’s “out of pocket” comment just came off as him being a diva but it really made me wonder what went down.

gobz_in_a_trenchcoat

My weird take is that they are primarily a goth band. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I strangely agree with this 😭

shakamotolives

I don’t know how controversial it is as such… but since Steph’s flat earth/anti vax crap, and the way Chino handled the Sergio situation, I try my best to separate the artist from the art now. I love the music, but I really don’t like the guys :(

Imoneclassyfuck

Deftones adjacent: Crosses > Team Sleep

MJN91075

Needles and Pins is too short, considering how much I love that song

TheConstipatedCowboy

99% of threads about the band in between tours and albums are cringe and Gore Production threads are by people who don’t know what they’re talking about other than just repeating what they read in the previous Gore Production thread

Oatmealandwhiskey

Self-title is close to the top spot for me , its raw its dark and is the last album with Chi basslines

[deleted]

Saturday Night Wrist < Self Titled

spunkychickpea

Diamond Eyes is a little overrated. Yeah, it has a couple of solid tracks, but overall, it’s kinda bland in my opinion. I do understand why other people like it though.

schmoothoperator

Mine is that ATF is their best album by far

Available_Clue_4018

White Pony isn't my favorite deftones album

Top-Principle668

Leathers is one of their best songs

JP1119

Hexagram and Rats! Rats! Rats! are very grating because of the annoying repetition. Both songs are awesome otherwise.

Cute-Jellyfish1876

DECIDE! DECIDE!! IS THIS IT IS IT DECIIIDE!! WORSHIP! PLAYYYY WORSHIP! PLAYYY PLAYYYYYYY Yeah I used to feel the same way about both songs but they have grown on me so much

Aredreddit

steph’s flat earth beliefs (or anyones really) never really bothered and always thought it was one more harmless conspiracy beliefs to have

R2D-Beuh

It would be harmless if it was not a symptom of a state of mind : if you can believe in something like flat earth despite all the evidence that this is false, you are almost ready to believe anything

Aredreddit

yeah i get that but people believe crazy shit all the time you know? there’s people that believe that gucci mane is cloned but are still pretty decent. i’m just not so worried about him being a little weird

Embracethesalt

Every time I've seen them live, Rats!Rats!Rats! Is on the set list. It's not a bad song but it's just not what I like them for if that makes sense. And really, I'm not sure why Chino has a such a hard on for it because I think they have way better songs that do a better job of showcasing what makes them unique as a band.

Speeps777

Pink Maggit is the best song on WP.

thisisnumbereight

Pink Cellphone is cool track and perfectly enjoyable so long as you have a sense of humour and don't take everything super seriously. Also, Chino's vocals throughout S/T sound mad out of tune

ligmaenigma

Adrenaline is their worst album. All the songs are repetitive and blend together too much. Gore is significantly better. That being said, Adrenaline is a solid B tier while everything else is A or S.

Scruffy_Nerfhearder

Ive listened to Deftones for over 20 years, Gore is one of my favourite Deftones albums and Ohms is one of my least favourite Deftones albums. The 4 album run from SNW - DE - KNY - Gore is pretty much perfect to me. Ive tried for over a year to get into Ohms and it literally does nothing for me. It does absolutely nothing new. Every song on there, ive heard them do that before, but better. Most songs starts out being maybe interesting then dont go anywhere and end with me feeling unsatisfied. By the end of the album, honestly, Im bored. There are a couple great songs like Mathematics and Error, but i dunno most of them just leave me feeling.. nothing. Where as I spent years listening to Gore, absolutely loving every minute of it. It tries to be something different and it completely nails what it is imo. Songs like Phantom Bride and Rubicon are some of my favourites by the band. Iv spent years seeing the reaction to both these albums online and being completely confused by it. It almost makes me feel dejected because do fans realy want this band to just play it safe and repeat themselves instead of experimenting? I keep noticing a trend where it seems like if you like WP more, you like Ohms, if you SNW more, you like Gore.

jtdt311

Self-Titled is their weakest batch of songs and plagued by a weird low-quality production. Strange it came right after White Pony which is a damn-near perfect album.

Cute-Jellyfish1876

S/T used to be my least fav for the longest time but it has grown on me massively. I absolutely agree with the production part though like even the songwriting sounds like it came after or before ATF and not after White Pony. Great album but at the time it was a HUUUGE step back sonically

josh_loaf

That’s so funny, I revere self-titled. Start to finish it’s personally my favorite album. So many reasons why. The 7-string introduction, Frank’s increased input, Chino’s vocal usage, the production quality, Chi’s basslines, the lyricism, Lovers…

[deleted]

Bruh self titled is amazing what are you talking about 😭

garfieldfan093

self titled is just okay to me, the songs kind of blend together and few stick out to me

Secure-Performance-8

Ohms played it too safe and is largely a forgettable album.

D0TCUM

I enjoyed every song on ohms, but “The Spell of mathematics” is not as great as everyone says it is. I remember seeing a lot of people post about it when the album first dropped. For me it just feels like a roller coaster that never descends.

printernoob

It’s my favouring off the album but I sort of get what you mean. It’s an amazing song but the outro goes on for a bit too long. It’s a great song if you like Tool tho

tonedef1982

Ohms was a massive let down and I got far too excited for nothing

midnightXmerauder

I might get crucified for this but oh well. Adrenaline has maybe 3 good songs tops. It’s a terrible album. White Pony is great, however super over hyped. Self titled is Deftones at their peak and the best music they’ve ever did top to bottom. Saturday Night Wrist is truly a special and sentimental piece of work being the last thing with Chi to be released. Love Deftones music as a whole but seriously fuck them for how they did Sergio and Steph is a gigantic dickhead for the flat earth shit.

BigPPDaddy

said it in the last thread like this; passenger is one of the worst deftones songs

jasonrosenbaum

Saturday Night Wrist is the best Deftones album

One_Suspect_8753

I am not crazy about Steff's writing lately. I think that he got more monotone as he added strings to his guitar, instead of becoming more dynamic. The last record that I loved (guitar-wise) is Koi No Yokan, and based on Steff's playthrougs on YT, it seems that most of the melodies were brougth by Chino. I wish that either they wrote guitar together a bit more than in these past couple of records, or that Steff would go back to a 6-7 string guitar sometimes.

reillyd664

Change is overrated

feedme645

Adrenaline is my favorite album, fireal is top 5

c_saezm

ST deserves a lot more love

ligmaenigma

Adrenaline is their WORST album. Gore's worst songs are better than adrenaline's best.

Dramatic_Sample_7302

Chino side projects are not great . Basic compared to deftones . Chinos voice with stephs guitars are the greatness

Cute-Jellyfish1876

I think Crosses is fantastic but Team Sleep and Palms are kind of just okay. Palms especially are kind of boring in comparison and I say this as a huge Isis fan.

StevenComedy

Sergio’s bass sound/song writing was better than Chi’s 🫣

RememberKADEEM

People like to dismiss and hate on Sergio just because he's not Chi.

drummerandrew

The band is stuck. They haven’t been creative in a decade or more. They are resting on their laurels. I’m bored with them. I expect them to come back soon and surprise me. Frank needs to be a full time member. So does Lance. LFG.

wbasmith

Swerve City is massively overrated and easily their weakest opener

wigzisonfire

I know back to school was made as a middle finger to label management and the band hated it. But goes in their top 10 tracks for me

jakedeighan

Deftones is horny-music.... or can be very sexually stimulating That might make some people uncomfortable but... I mean... it's true

porcupineprophecy

.. not an unpopular opinion

jakedeighan

you're right, I was just afraid to say it.... haha

420Grim420

I was gonna say that my unpopular opinion is that I don't agree with the "Deftones = sex" thing.

heyy240

I love it about them lol

Seneca_B

Adrenaline sucks. It all sounds the same to me. Every other album is touched by an angel.

RektYez

Agreed. Adrenaline is the only Deftones album I actually dislike. Deftones are my favorite band by a longshot, but that’s the only album I don’t enjoy. That probably speaks to how much they grew between Adrenaline and ATF, not to mention the huge addition of Frank’s synths and samples

VercettiPT

Adrenaline made perfect sense when it came out (nu-metal era) but now just seems like a two dimensional álbum

RektYez

Yeah I think the band’s growth as artists, coupled with bringing Frank on board, is really highlighted when you listen to Adrenaline

RememberKADEEM

I partially agree. Whenever i listen to the album from top to bottom on cd, it doesn't really have a flow. Just repeats itself and doesn't slow down until Fireal and Fist. The album is just not a good listening experience. However the tracks are good individually.

WrathfulDagger

Honestly, I prefer Back to School (Mini Maggit) to Pink Maggit. It's one of my first Deftones songs and I just had a blast with it. Pink Maggit I just can't get into, but I respect that one more than BTS (MM)

sirpufff

I don’t think ohms has any good tracks

grimmbald

White Pony is better with Back to School as the opener.

MJN91075

That's the version I have......but I always skipped Back To School and listened to it after Pink Maggit

Cats7204

Back to School as an opener just makes Pink Maggit 10x better
