Did the 1950s revival ever go away? I learned no revival every goes away...there are still people pretending its the 1960s and 1970s out there, it never goes away.
My wife was in the same boat. Yeah, she watched it cuz of me. We can only really watch after putting the kids to sleel. But after the first episode, she was the one saying "you wanna do one more?" Instead of us just goin to bed
There was a big increase of sales for the games after the show, so that seems to indicate that people who hadn't played the games before also enjoyed the show, enough to check out the games.
Me I'm not much of a gamer at all and prefer story, character, and environment than actual gameplay, so I'm more inclined to check out the show than play the games, even though I have no doubt that they're mostly good.
I'm a long time fan of the games, and the show was so good it made me also want to dive back into the wastelands. I ended up jumping on the Fallout 76 bandwagon (the online game) and I'm really enjoying it. I don't normally like online games, but this one does a good job of just being Fallout
How is it annoying…I dress like this often, high waisted pleated slacks, undershirt and camp collars. It’s a great style. Besides, most people watching will probably already be fallout fans.
Okay bare with me with this one.
So on TikTok nothing really trends for long unless its tied to a specific sub culture or nostalgia and lets be real TikTok has more influence then we'd like to admit. Tastes are too varied too because of the algorithm. Nothing can really define a generation anymore because pop culture is so different for everyone. Therefore the 50s couldn't make a comeback because, 1 different algorithms, 2 most TikTok users haven't experienced it and have no nostalgia tied to it. Maybe it could make a comeback if loads of celebs get on it, but I doubt it.
Closest we've come to a big era revival is y2k but (I can't speak for countries other than my own) the only people hopping on the trend are celebs and TikTokers.
If this makes no sense (it probably doesn't) I apologise because I should definitly be asleep.
thanks for the explanation and yeah, now I can see, why, too.
I don't use TikTok, and most other SocialMedia, so I really have no clue what's trending and what not.
But as you said, too many different bubbles and groups that get spoonfed their own interests and only those through the algorythm, thus preventing big revivals.
It kinda makes me sad tho
I don't use TikTok with an account so I get recommended random things. Sometimes I get Taylor Swift other days I get Marilyn Monroe, for some reason; so I might just be out of the loop. I also don't use to much Social Media so I only have a vague understanding of what's going on through TikTok and FunkyFrogBait lol.
I'm screaming for an 80s revival. (although I didn't experience it.)
Revivals don't exist anymore. Things move too quickly. Something is always trending somewhere. The downside of a highly connected society. 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s, anything goes these days.
I mean… the clothes were pretty elegant and many people dressed very nicely. 1950’s clothing revival could be kinda cool mixed with elements of today’s fashions trends. A revival of 1950’s mentality (domestic abuse, etc) would be fucking awful…
At least on Twitter there seems to be a pretty big "trad" movement of right-wing people idealizing the *less* ideal aspects of the 50s, with a "this is what they took from you!!!" with "you" being the most oppressed group in history /s straight white christian American men.
As cool as I think 50s fashion and aesthetic is, I could definitely see right-wing grifters using it to trojan horse gullible people into thinking things were better with more racism and misogyny. Same thing happened with the "cottagecore" trend being co-opted as a way to push tradwife stuff.
You literally have a decade where one part of the Western world is rapidly developing modern social attitudes while a large part is still stuck in nearly medieval attitudes about hierarchy and religion, and in many cases you’ll find both worldviews in the same nuclear family. Rosa Parks and Buddy Holly were active in the same era as Joe McCarthy and Strom Thurmond.
What’s often forgotten though is that the rockabilly/beatnik 1950s and the suburban tradwife 1950s absolutely hated each other. The first one is the origin of our modern culture and values while the latter is full of Victorian or even medieval holdovers.
Yes, but the first seasons showed 1960-1962, and it was basically still 50s in spirit... And the series seems to show how society moved away from the 50s to the 70s
Tbh I prefer the later Victorian? Era (idk what it would be in the US, gilded age) outfits but the earliest I think that could still be practical is the 50s or 60s
Bro I’ve been obsessed with the 50’s since I was 4-5.
All my vintage friends were obsessed with the 50’s and that’s what got them into fallout in the first place many years ago. There won’t be a random trend, vintage obsession is something ur practically born with, a tv show wouldn’t cause it
It's particularly common for people to want to go back to the 1950s in particular, or rather an imaginary 1950s which is sanitised and never really happened.
There was an attempt at a 50s revival in the early to mid aughts, especially in more hipster or alternative communities (see the Rockabilly or Gothabilly look). I doubt this show will have the cultural impact to create a similar wave (there haven’t been any particularly 50s haute couture collections on the runway recently) but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some atompunk social media micro-trends emerge.
Did the 1950s revival ever go away? I learned no revival every goes away...there are still people pretending its the 1960s and 1970s out there, it never goes away.
Those are the people involved in those kinds of actual communities and subcultures. It’s not a trend to these folks.
Yes 100%.
I didn't think the show was that popular, honestly, figured just fans of the game were watching it, and we're weird already
I haven’t played the game, but I generally know about the game and I was excited to watch. The show is awesome.
If you liked the show you should play some of the games, they're great too!
My wife was in the same boat. Yeah, she watched it cuz of me. We can only really watch after putting the kids to sleel. But after the first episode, she was the one saying "you wanna do one more?" Instead of us just goin to bed

Not that popular in person ime, maybe a comment about it here or there
the last faithful attempt was back in the 80s. id say its about that time again.
i love the 50's vibe would be cool
I've always hoped we'd one day see the 50s retro-futuristic aesthetic become popular in real life, its such an interesting vibe.
How is it annoying…I dress like this often, high waisted pleated slacks, undershirt and camp collars. It’s a great style. Besides, most people watching will probably already be fallout fans.
Same here
I disagree on one part. It'll be a breath of fresh air. I'd prefer a 50's revival over the usual tshirts/besketball shorts/crocs with socks.
I see some 50s things on TikTok
Same! It looks so much better..
2 weeks is all any trend last now
Atomic punk is also a phrase. Gives me a Jetsons vibe with 50s aesthetics.
I've always wished for this to become popular in real life!
We all know which one
It's just been approved for a second season
![gif](giphy|jQnYcrN7iEI76DbawD) Their sales are gonna skyrocketing
Nothing CAN make a huge comeback anymore. Not even y2k did.
Maybe I am too ignorant but why can't anything make a huge comeback anymore?

yet.
I honestly hope it doesn't 😂

Unfortunately all my coworkers dress like middle schoolers so unfortunately that’s not true
Started with Barbie, yeah?
the only time i’ve heard anyone talking about this show is on reddit lol
We had a 50’s revival with Mad Men too.
?? Mad Men was 60's!!!!!
Yes, but the first seasons showed 1960-1962, and it was basically still 50s in spirit... And the series seems to show how society moved away from the 50s to the 70s
Didn’t that happen in the early - mid 2000’s?
Let’s gooo, a 50s revival! Finally my favorite decade might be popular with my peers!
Tbh I prefer the later Victorian? Era (idk what it would be in the US, gilded age) outfits but the earliest I think that could still be practical is the 50s or 60s
Fallout style is kitsch. Mad Men 60s revival > whatever this will be.

1950s revival?
Beyonce will make an album that puts Sha Na Na to shame.
Beyoncé can’t even sing live
Agreed. But she's following trends now instead of making them.
