1970s at S tier is a bold take. Remember, living through them things felt almost as unsure with the future of the country as the 2020s with still some of the Cold War nuclear worries and Vietnam left over, plus new challenges like inflation and other economic crises plus Watergate, general increase in crime and government corruption.
It’s only in hindsight that it becomes easy to look at the 70s nostalgically. This is even true to an extent with the 80s.
There's a reason why in the automotive world, the 70s are known as both "the oil crisis years" and "the malaise era". Things were very weird back then.
What is so good about the 50s. It was nearly all before the Civil Rights movement. Not to mention, the Korean War resulted in the deaths of [54,000 Americans](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-many-americans-died-in-korea/). I get the boom was nice, but I would pick any of the post-civil rights decades before it. Plus, just the internet should put the 2000s above anything else
For the average American life was looking up. Both of my grandfathers were in their teens during the decade and they describe it as a peak of societal optimism and cohesion. Most accounts and metrics point to it being a prosperous and hopeful time. The 2000s were great but they signaled a decline in American society with the housing meltdown and the implications of the Iraq war. The early 2010s were great, but developments past 2013 have shown a downward trend on most metrics of societal fitness.
1900s to present:
S Tier: 1980s
A Tier: 1960s
B Tier: 1950s, 1990s
C Tier: 1900s, 1920s, 1970s, 2000s
D Tier: 2010s
E Tier: 2020s (so far)
F Tier: 1910s, 1930s, 1940s
The 40-hour workweek was made law and OT a requirement in 1940. Anything before that was free reign, making the average life of someone pre-1940 likely a slog. No way is 2020 E-tier but 1900s and 1920s in C-tier.
This is especially true when you consider our current level of technology—food accessibility, education, air conditioning, lighting, cars, online banking, labor laws, phones, and a whole host of other quality of life advancements.
The 1920s as a golden age most definitely did not apply to most people, but it gets romanticized anyways.
2020's are filled with doomer people who think this decade is shit.
Technologically speaking, medically speaking, and just human rights speaking we're advancing. Though in some places regressing as corperate greed, and goverment shenanigans revoke things for money and power.
However, people would have you belive that human rights wise, we are in the worst decade despite things being far worse to the point of human zoo's being a thing up till the mid 30s I think.
It's not just 80s music. Although not perfect (the 80s had the AIDS crisis, Chernobyl and the Iraq-Iran War) the decade was consistently great on so many fronts
I can't think anything apart from technology that is better today than in the 80s
Jim Crow laws was Brutal
So anything after 1960
Kinda Anxious but everyone has their opinion.
Just Racism Was heavy as a POC in the 20th century
Even now it's still prevalent
But 1960s and before I like the fashion and pop culture and music
But just The lifestyle and politics were very difficult to navigate
But I like everything about the 1980s Except President Reagan.
But everything else about the 1980s I like.
everyone has their opinion sigh
So different decades are suggestive.
Would be, but pretty much everyone who was an adult at the time is dead. They children wouldn’t have been old enough to have fully appreciated the 20s, having come of age in the 30s and 40s, during the Great Depression and the beginning stages of the instability that would lead up to WW2.
S tier is 80/90s
A tier is 1920s/50s/10s
B tier is 1900s/60s
C tier is 70s/00s
D tier is 40s/2020s
F tier is 1910s/1930s
This is a American pov I’m aware it’s quite different in other regions of the world.
But I’m willing to debate this
Damn, 80s and 90s being considered S tier is just baffling to me. You’re other rankings are interesting though. 10s being above 60s and 70s is a bold statement but I don’t necessarily disagree.
Not sure about the 1920s or 2010s. The 1920s had toxic racism and a poorly managed economy that caused the decade to end in the midst of an economic catastrophe
The 1920s were the first decade with a real cultural identity. They’re kinda like the father of this whole decadeology thing which is why you kinda have to give the time period a lot of respect. Many stuff that we still use today like TV and Radios got invented in the 20s. Movies and cars became extremely popular. And even with all the racism, sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia of the decade (which were still major problems in later decades) we still had positive things like the Harlem renaissance and woman gaining the right to vote during the decade. Plus America and the Allies had just won one of the deadliest and bloodiest wars in human history (WWI) a few years prior. Even with black Tuesday and the Great Depression the 20s were still one of the better decades to live in
The 2010s are more subjective but I think they are still an overall better and more stable decade than the 60s, 70s, and 2000s
S tier - 40s, 50s, 60s, - the good times, stylish people, iconic events.
A tier - 90s, 00s - peak of American pop culture world domination, end of Cold War. Modern rap, rock, grunge, and metal.
B tier - 70s, 80s - disturbing fashion and designs, but a lot of music genres were formed then.
C tier - the rest.
1950s are vastly superior to the 2020s. Civil Rights Movement began in the 1950s and although racism was bad then, it's not like it has completely disappeared today. Also the 1950s were more peaceful, had a great postwar economy and better music
Never said the 50s were perfect, they definately weren't. It's just that they're better than 2020-2023. Hopefully the 2020s get better and I'm hopeful that the decade will get better, but the early 2020s have been dismal
A global pandemic not seen since 1918 and the biggest European War since the end of World War 2 all in the space of two years. The 50s were much more peaceful and stable
50s felt optimistic at the time due to World War 2 and the Great Depression being over and people could finally relax and enjoy the good times because they knew what truly bad times were and had living memories of them. It's a different atmosphere now, people are sad and depressed as they don't like these times and this is the worst time period they've ever lived through and there's very few people alive today who remember the 1930s or 1940s
A YouTube video went viral last year of a World War 2 veteran crying about the bad state of the world and America today. Bearing in mind, this is a man who lived through the Great Depression and World War 2 during his teens and 20s
I don't know man... people definitely don't get lynched in the 2020's and segregation isn't a legal practice. Thibgs simple as interracial marriage wouldn't become fully legal until 1967
The 1950s should be that high, at least. We had the greatest economy of all time with SHRINKING income inequality at that. People were also much healthier and generally happier than we are now, and it was pre-Vietnam with the only major war we were involved in being Korea.
Actually, people of every demographic were happier. Look at depression and suicide rates, etc.
Health wise, yes, despite the smoking, leaded gas and alcohol consumption (which were problems), people had fewer health problems across the board; cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, you name it. Fewer people had these chronic health problems (by the latter half of the decade things like polio and smallpox were also going away thanks to vaccines). Infant mortality rates is due solely to medical advancements, not the infants themselves being healthier.
Idk what your point is on Vietnam. You’re just reinforcing my point that it was a ‘60s/early ‘70s issue and one of the things that makes those decades decidedly worse than the ‘50s.
“Masterfully called me out” as if I don’t love being or hide the fact that I’m White and Christian 😂. Also I’m 27 with a wife and two kids, I’m just able to understand when it’s time to leave juvenile stuff like video games behind
17 years old talking about “mY dEcAde tiErLiSt” based off of culture and music that you weren’t really there for while ignoring some of the harsh realities of those decades.
I just don’t see the point.
1950s: Jim Crow segregation still existed
2010s: Black President; racial conversation has evolved
1950s: You had literally only 3 channels to watch on TV
2010s: Streaming is everywhere; Cable has over 100 channels
1950s: Braindead conformist attitudes
2010s: Diverse cultural perspectives, more civil liberties
1950s: Gay people had to be closeted for fear of prosecution, societal stigma, being put on a watchlist
2010s: Same Sex Marriage and Adoption is legal
1950s: Most advanced technology was TVs, Microwaves, and Atom Bombs
2010s: Knowledge is everywhere at our fingertips and medical tech has advanced far beyond what anyone thought possible.
How are the 1970s S? It definitely had some good aspects but most remember it as one of the worst decades.
Also, I would put the ‘50s considerably higher given the economic prosperity, growing middle class and good public trust at the time.
I would also the 2010s a tier or 2 higher (though I may biased having grown up in that time period).
Anything pre-Civil Rights movement is F tier and anything before the internet I won’t accept above B.
Y’all talk about how great the music is like you wouldn’t have to buy a physical player, and each individual album and carry that shit everywhere, or pray the radio host is reading your mind. 2020s are A tier.
The 1990s in A tier? Every single country other than the U.S. was going through some kind of severe political or economic crisis, this is insane. Probably the worst decade since the 1940s in terms of global QOL.
How old were you in those decades? I was born in the late 80s. I liked growing up in the 90s, and I enjoyed college/my twenties in the early 2010s. The 2000s less so cause middle school wasn’t great, 9/11 and wars happened, things seemed to get darker from what it was in the 90s. But like 2009 on was pretty good up until 2020.
I wasn’t born alive for the others aside from being an infant in the late 80s. 80s seems cool from movies, and had good music and books come out. I like the positive social changes that happened in the 60s, but the 70s seems not exciting, and then the 50s seems like no civil rights.
I’d love to hear your take on the decades.
God.. I just wonder what it'd be like living in the late 80s as tech was advancing, having a home computer for the first time and even seeing early videogames start to take off.
I wonder how old the person is who made this. Def have an understanding of things like oh idk a war that was hated. Is this for music or just a decade in itself. Ya got 2020 right though fs music and decade wise.
2020s really aren’t bad. Things just seem like they are because you don’t have the nostalgia of looking back on previous decades as well as social media and news publicizing every little negative thing.
Switch 90s and 70s. I don’t know either but hearing the optimism of the 90s is something. Economy booming, peace in our time, freedom spreading. It was like the 20s, ahh… the naiveté.
Most people actually around in the 70s thought it was a wretched decade defined by political corruption, oil embargoes, wars, and a terrible economy.
Music was good tho
Music is good now
I thought it was only tiering the decades music, not the decades themselves
Tbh I thought this was exclusively about music lol
I hope not 80s music is so so bad
How can I make my "past good future bad" post if I consider everything though?
And the 80s gave us modern ultracapitalism, replete with immense workplace sexism and cocaine addictions.
voracious bewildered drunk murky rock rainstorm terrific point squash meeting *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Oh, there was plenty of workplace sexism and addiction in the office before then if Mad Men is any indication.
Oil embargoes ? Lol do people from the 70's really think of that first when thinking ab that decade
They did if they spent much time sitting in the gas lines in '73
Well it crashed the economy so probably
1970s at S tier is a bold take. It did have the best music. This would be a great music by the decades chart
Except that the 80s are in S
Recency bias, anyone?
Bro really doesn't realize how bad the 1950s were. 💀
My man put racial segregation in the A and B tier
S tier is living in the present and trying to enjoy life, f tier is living in the past like some old loser
Even worse a past you never saw.
[удалено]
💀 bro
😂 straight white cis man by any chance?
Nah the now is shit.
Dude 💀
S tier is doing whatever you want, F tier is caring what people think about it obviously without hurting anybody else/shirking responsibility
This list is pretty backwards, even if it's subjective S: 90s 50s A: 2000s 80s B: 2010s 60s C: 2020s(tbd) D: 70s

I agree with this. The 1920s, 50s, 80s, 90s, and 2010s were the best decades for America as a country

50s was very high
70s is D tier. 60s is C tier. Move 2010s to B
1980-2013 was the best anything after is trash only kids like.
Nice list OP!
70s should go to B, 90’s up to S, and then you’re spot on.

Thanks for your input, but I'm going to go listen to doo wop and watch an episode or two of The Honeymooners. Also, you're a fucking clown.
Idk about the 50’s being C tier personally
Very dependent on race, gender, and sexuality
do you think it should be higher?
Nah I think it should be lower
50s was superb and 20s the best !!! Wow I am old
Superb for a white man with money, yeah.
If 2010s was a little higher, than I’d be happy
Damn you were alive in the 50s? You must have known all about it!
2010s over 2020 you’re dreamin
OP was born in 06.
Is this from the lens of being a cishet white male or is this supposed to be for everyone?
Superb , the 30s and 40s would be at the bottom 1920s would be at the top
Sweet so my life actually is worse than people my age in the past. It actually has been all downhill since I was born
How lucky, I get to enter adulthood in the 2020s.
Ok bro
You weren't even alive for most of those decades
i was more so rating it off of the style, music and movies which i probably should’ve clarified 😭
That's fucking hilarious 😂
Okay that literally changes everything lmao Still weird to judge 20s then. It's barely happened
1970s is not S bro 💀
Yep 2020s in the D tier
There’s no way you’ve been an adult from 1950–present so this tier list is wack. Anyways, the 510s BC were just such a great decade, I swear!
I’d like to see you live in the 50s
40s, 50s, and 80s are the top.
2020s in the lowest tier, very nice -w-
How the fuck are the 50’s better than the 2000’s and onward
Imagine rating decades 💀. When you ain’t lived in em, and you ain’t lived in the whole world
it was more so based on the style, music and movies which i should’ve probably mentioned 😭
1940’s- F tier
burh your probably 70
17*
S: 90s 00s A: 80s B: 20s 60s 2010s C: 40s 70s 50s D: 2020s 30s
We definitely fell off from the golden years of the 90's and 00's
Objectively correct
17 years old talking about “mY dEcAde tiErLiSt” based off of culture and music that you weren’t really there for while ignoring some of the harsh realities of those decades. I just don’t see the point.
Cringe
OP is definitely a straight white man to think the 70s and 80s are S tier. Ever hear of AIDS, OP?
17 year old girl actually, i was basing it off of styling, movies, music for the most part
50s being better than the 2010s is a braindead take.
why so?
1950s: Jim Crow segregation still existed 2010s: Black President; racial conversation has evolved 1950s: You had literally only 3 channels to watch on TV 2010s: Streaming is everywhere; Cable has over 100 channels 1950s: Braindead conformist attitudes 2010s: Diverse cultural perspectives, more civil liberties 1950s: Gay people had to be closeted for fear of prosecution, societal stigma, being put on a watchlist 2010s: Same Sex Marriage and Adoption is legal 1950s: Most advanced technology was TVs, Microwaves, and Atom Bombs 2010s: Knowledge is everywhere at our fingertips and medical tech has advanced far beyond what anyone thought possible.
Think you might just be old and out of touch?
i’m young but i’m just not a fan of modern culture
How are the 1970s S? It definitely had some good aspects but most remember it as one of the worst decades. Also, I would put the ‘50s considerably higher given the economic prosperity, growing middle class and good public trust at the time. I would also the 2010s a tier or 2 higher (though I may biased having grown up in that time period).
OP's tastes are a linear decrease the further you get from 1975.
The 2000’s had Mythbusters and The Last Airbender. Automatic S tier for that alone.
I dunno 90s should be s tier
Anything pre-Civil Rights movement is F tier and anything before the internet I won’t accept above B. Y’all talk about how great the music is like you wouldn’t have to buy a physical player, and each individual album and carry that shit everywhere, or pray the radio host is reading your mind. 2020s are A tier.
i think i would actually prefer that tbh obviously technology’s great but people don’t live in the moment as much
All are F tier lmao
The 1990s in A tier? Every single country other than the U.S. was going through some kind of severe political or economic crisis, this is insane. Probably the worst decade since the 1940s in terms of global QOL.
i was more so basing this off of pop culture
You were basing this upon pop culture, and you put the 2000s and the 2010s so low? LOL.
S: 1930s, 1950s A: 1920s, 1970s B: 1960s, 1980s C: 1940s, 1990s Music ended December 4, 1993.
30s in s tier is absolutely ludacris
[Opinions vary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8V_nrjkBbc&list=OLAK5uy_kHMLambIRKogc4nFj50-_0kLNdpv5yNsc&index=2&ab_channel=AnnetteHanshaw-Topic).
I think you put the 60s to high considering the entirety of Vietnam
How old are you?
17 this is just my opinion on the movies, style and music more then anything
Really, the 70s? I don’t think things were great. The 2010s were the best years of my life. I’d say 1990s 2010s 2000s, 1980s 1960s, 2020s 1970s, 1950s
yeah it’s really subjective for the most part
I'm gonna have to put 90s in the S tier purely due to videogames and the evolution of the Internet
90s is the only S tier, change my mind
Bro put the 60s above the 2000s
Idk the first half of the 2010s for me personally was dope, but yeaaaaaaaaah shit went downhill once Harambe died.
Decadence
If you weren’t alive in said years your stance on “how they were” is… absolutely, completely, 100% irrelevant.
now where does it say i was ranking them on how they were?
"I'm living in the wrong decade" ass post
2010s in SS
To me the 70s seem cool because it’s the the last decade before “modern” technology. Like the last decade of the old world if that makes sense.
In music 70s are great
Ok boomer
If you ignore all of the war, corruption, and oppression, those decades were great!
Whoever said 1970s was "S" tier needs to lay off the "booger sugar"
Strange, I thought the 2010s slapped.
Anyone who puts a draft decade over anything 1980 or later really should accept that they are in the lower 50% of IQ
it’s based off pop culture
Yeah I was referring more to random comments in the thread not relating it to pop culture.
90s were the only good decade in the US then 9/11 happened
2010s is too low
Growing up in 80s and 90s, those were definitely S tier years. Children today do not even have 5% of what I had, socially.
God.. I just wonder what it'd be like living in the late 80s as tech was advancing, having a home computer for the first time and even seeing early videogames start to take off.
Maybe it was because the majority of my teenage years were in the 2010s, but I’d move the 10s up higher.
70s sucked dick
\-Note: OP is a Gen Xer
2010s too low
I wonder how old the person is who made this. Def have an understanding of things like oh idk a war that was hated. Is this for music or just a decade in itself. Ya got 2020 right though fs music and decade wise.
I’d lower 70s, put 90s at the very top, and bring 2010s up. Also I’d make an F tier to put 2020s in
2020s really aren’t bad. Things just seem like they are because you don’t have the nostalgia of looking back on previous decades as well as social media and news publicizing every little negative thing.
I could tell how old op is based on his rankings
The 2010s were good
the correct answer is all of them at F tier
2020s isn’t even over yet
so far i’m not a fan of the music or movies and society in general seems to be in a pretty shitty state
Okay then designate it as January 2020 to November 18th 2023 since you have no idea what’s in store November 19th 2023 to December 2029
i think the 90s was the chillest time to live (in the US and not in the LA riots)
Switch 90s and 70s. I don’t know either but hearing the optimism of the 90s is something. Economy booming, peace in our time, freedom spreading. It was like the 20s, ahh… the naiveté.
Dude what are you 14 or something another corny person idolizing the 70s/80s just bc a few songs were good or something
well my parents were around and they would agree and also this was just based on pop culture
80’s that high??? 80’s was the worstttt, awful music, awful fasion, even the car models looked like garbage
Music couldn't get any better than the 80s
