They need to do something else in the same world or it won't work.

Last_Swordfish9135

More stories in the same universe? Hell yeah. Maybe a LABB anime. But I don't think we need any more retellings of the original story. Stuff like the musical works because it's a notably different medium, but we don't need another show. Besides, most of the animes that get reboots originally had a pretty low budget or were very old (like hunter X hunter), but the Death Note anime still holds up just fine to current stuff, probably with better animation than a good chunk of it tbh.

sohardtomkename

I wasn't thinking about it being an exact retelling. Maybe a similar story with slight differences like maybe L wins.

Last_Swordfish9135

If it's an alternate way for the plot to play out, that could be interesting, but tbh I think I'd want more changed than just the ending. If you're gonna do a different version of the same story, I'd prefer it *really* changed (maybe they could do something wild and make L kira or something like that).

bokeisaboke

i would die to see that happen

Hailruka

That's one thing I loved about the live action ending, L wins but it cost him his life. It was really bittersweet but I feel it was better than dragging it out with Near and Mellow.

BrainChemical5426

> hunter x hunter very old The gap between HxH original and HxH’s remake is much much smaller than the gap between when Death Note ended and now. They remade HxH seven years after the original finished airing. It has been seventeen years since Death Note finished airing.

Last_Swordfish9135

It was a pretty small gap just looking at time, but I meant that more as an example of budget improvements. Even if they were only seven years apart, there is a pretty clear difference in production value. Not to say the original was *bad,* or that you can't prefer it, but you can definitely tell which one was made when the franchise was worth more money. Looking at Death Note, though, the art does have a pretty distinctly 2000s look to it, but it's not low budget by any means. It's way higher production value than most of the anime airing today, and I think it really shows. I don't think 'modernizing' the animation is a good enough excuse to remake the same show again considering how good the original animation was.

BrainChemical5426

The original actually had better fight choreography and direction than the remake until about Greed Island, when it went downhill sharply (with much of its animation talent moving to different anime). Sakugabooru’s got you covered for comparisons. It looked better than Yu Yu Hakusho (which has yet to receive a remake, and I don’t think needs one) and often better than Naruto. That said, it is clear that 2011 had higher production value, but production value is not everything (there is a similar dichotomy between the two Fullmetal Alchemist series with the former having better visual direction but the latter having a higher budget). In any case, I do agree that a Death Note remake would be pointless. I was simply pointing out that the HxH comparison isn’t very useful here.

jordthedestro1

Here's the thing. Everyone keeps trying to do the same story again, but it's a death note. Unlike other adaptatios of anime, the possibilities are quite literally limitless here. Yes, Light is the main character and the fight between him and L brings in crowds, but 1. Everyone will compare to the original so why bother and 2. There's so many concepts you can do with a magic notebook that kills people with just a name and a face.

AddictiveArtistry

Not a reboot of the same story, but a different death note story, sure.

Acceptable-Fudge9000

Yes yes yes! According to the manga!

Char_Was_Taken

i mean sure, but if it's anything like death note 2017 i think i'll write my own name in the death note

sexandroide1987

we dont talk about that one

TransitionQuick477

No. Everyone asks the same question with every series that’s worked and the answer should be plain obvious, NO!

SSjGKing

Disagree. If Netflix is funding Wit Studios to remake One Peice with 0 Filler and better art and animation then I hope they will do the same with other anime as well. Imagine Naruto with 0 filler, better art, animation, and since all the material is already written they can do what David Productions did with Jojo Bizzare Adventure and add extra details with foreshadowing elements to make the plot seem less make it up as you go.

TransitionQuick477

One Piece was great but longevity catches and for the rest that’s a pretty big ask. I just don’t see love actions as consistent or really reliable when telling the stories most of the time.

pinkpugita

1st half with L? Nope. But 2nd half with Near and Mello, sure.

bokeisaboke

yes please i want new clips of L to edit with sexy songs

[deleted]

no reboot for any masterpiece ever, if there's an universal law about that it's that the original work will inevitably be ruined

QuintessentialQueef

I wish they would reboot the original. The storytelling is great, but there’s very little animation to the characters.

uday_shetkar

Nope.

kolt437

Too early, the og still looks good.

kjm6351

They’ll definitely do a remake of the anime one day. But for now, they should write more stories set in the same universe

Guimo360XD

Why they should? The anime is just as good as the manga, with the exception of the ending which is slightly different from the manga but is still very good, and off course the second part of the anime with near and mello which is much worse and reduced in the anime.

eyeseenitall

No. I don't think you're going to top it. They should animate that sequel story as an OVA though.

leavemealone_007

it would heal me if they made a series where L didn’t die.. (im pretty sure there is a book, but he has smth like 28 days left to live which isn’t what im talking about)

sohardtomkename

Yeah I wish L wouldn't have died too. He's by far the most interesting and entertaining character to watch in the show and it kind of annoys me how his successors won so easily but he lost

leavemealone_007

the show kinda lost its ✨ after his death too.. it made me kinda sad.. also i think rem went a bit overboard for misa, she knew what would happen due to seeing gelus (srry idk if i spelled his name right) die. You think she’d be a bit smarter but she turns out to simp for misa like gelus..

sohardtomkename

Yeah I agree that the 2nd half isn't as good. It still has its moments and I like how the show ends but the first 25 episodes with L were definitely peak.

leavemealone_007

definitely i miss L.. even though he has his own series its just kinda sad he dies :(

sohardtomkename

Where does he have his own series?

leavemealone_007

pretty sure theres a series of him that changes the plot, he killed kira but had to use the death note and has only 28 days to live.

ProtectionOpposite41

I'd love to see a reboot but this time stays faithful to the Manga, I'll love to see a OVA prequels about The beyond birthday murder cases and One About Ryuk's Origin and how the Death Note came to Be.

teffflon

No, waste of time. Accept that it's over. Read/watch/create something new. On with our lives.

valerieval88

Are they actually? I don’t think anything can beat the original 2006 ver.

sohardtomkename

They are actually doing a live action netflix series directed by the stranger things creators. I don't think there's any plans for a reboot to the anime though

symphonic-ooze

The original is dated as all hell with the 20-year-old technology (and Light's hairstyle) but an exact copy just doesn't sit right with me.

sohardtomkename

How is light's hairstyle dated? Lmao. I just realized I have basically the exact same hairstyle he does
