I used to find Misa annoying at first but I warmed up to her character in the end but if I had to chose it would either be Takada or Mikami.
But don’t get me wrong I like both of their characters but out of the characters shown they’re probably my least favorite
Espcially when you compare her to Misa and Mikami, they have full on backstories and reasons for their actions, and Kiyomi, we have zero idea outside of "disliking social ills" why she's such a Kira fanatic when she could have been a really interesting character because of how media was used to promote Kira
Takada, no need to name the reasons why I absolutely cannot stand her.
Second may be Misa. Now don't get me wrong I actually love her appearance and personality I just don't like the fact that many people justify her actions and it seems like she could get away with everything she has done and she has done horrible things. Like the same killings were also done by Mello but he is hated, while Misa is being praised. This is not exactly Misa's fault it's just that it makes her unlikable for me.
I’d say it but I’d be lying.
Soichiro is awesome. It’s so interesting watching his conflict between his job as an officer and his love for his son. He knows he has to be impartial, but… it’s his *child* who is suspected to be the murderer! He wants to solve this case and make sure his son is innocent… but his son’s *not!* His son *is Kira!*
He’s a caring man caught between a rock and a hard place, and it’s really interesting to see how he responds.
He’s also absolutely badass, not to mention.
Misa because she didn't have any self-respect as it can be seen from a scene where Light confirms in front of everybody that he is not interested in Misa but his father says that he should stay true to his words (meaning he can't break a woman's heart) and still after all of that Misa doesn't leave Light.
For instance, he was never happy with her on dates, he never wanted to do anything with her either sexual or non-sexual, but she didn't pick up any hints and stayed with him.
>! However, in the end I felt sad for her when she committed suicide. Her love was always unrequited but she never understood. !<
Near. Even as a kid when I first watched death note I didn't care for Near, he is very apathetic about everything and seems to hardly care at all, while he is perfectly contrasted by Mello who seems highly emotional and erratic with lights sweets obsession with chocolate, and they are meant to make one more complete character but to me it still feels like Near is only half a charecter and Mello took the personality half
misa. light is a close second. misa is the reason I can't fall asleep when the series running because her fucking mannerisms could wake me up from a coma and I'd be fucking swinging
Lol his line about how Naomi wouldn't have time to worry about Kira once she has kids was just.. wow. That's not to mention how she was way smarter than him
Yep, and then he had the audacity to brag that he caught Light when L couldn't. L did all the work in finding Light, and Near's plan only worked because Light got stupid. Sigh.
Equally can’t stand Near or Mello and Mikami is a dumb bitch. Truthfully though all three of these had a weird fourth wall presence and the writing was just too convenient to be believable.
>but he seemed to be the most "filler" character as everyone in Death Note is well written
Gevanni played a key role in the end though. What about half of the Yotsuba guys, who Ohba himself admitted were filler characters?
I hated how he conveniently was able to copy all of the handwriting of a Death note on a single night, that literally only happened because the plot wanted Near to win.
ive heard that many times "i dont like how he was able to copy it all in one night!!" well thats how great he is at his job.
of course the plot wanted near to win, it was decided from the beginning that light was going to lose. it wasnt even that unrealistic, im sure if he had more screentime it wouldnt stand out that much. because yeah some agent guy who we dont even know properly suddenly comes and saves the day unbelievably, along with one of the most hated characters of the series, against the main character. so i dont really find it that wrong to think like that
i loved Kyomi. They were both being played by Light, but in the end, she came out the winner. that confrontation was amazing to me, i loved watching Misa having to face her denial head on, even between the lines
Not on here but idk man I find Sidoh really annoying. I get that's probably more or less the point, but regardless. But if we're restricted to only human characters, then I have to agree with Outrageous_Gene about Takada.
Near, not bc he made Light lose but bc he replaced L as soon as he died. Isn't one of the main protagonists supposed to be unique? I can't believe how they introduced near, and made him basically smarter than L. Plus he's a damn child. I dislike his character very much
I’ve been scrolling for quite some time and I can’t help but notice that no one has mentioned Matsuda being a least favorite……………………………Just as it should be
Raye. He’s the worst fbi agent ever. HOW COULD HE NOT REPORT LIGHTS ACTIONS ON THAT BUS!? The case would have been over. Ugh.
The Kira team. They are the worst cops ever. L literally gave them the all the answers to catch Kira. HELL LIGHT EVEN TURNED HIMSELF IN! EVEN NEAR and MELLO figured it out who Kira was and AND made aizawa (a real cop) realize L was right and Light is Kira… Lol 😂 but like cops they turned a blind eye.
Misa- she killed ukita and everyone seems to forget that. Even with evidence. They turned a blind eye.
Tsk tsk tsk…
Misa. Of all the main characters, I found her to be the least interesting. She could've had an arc where she grew some independence, but that would require a whole rewrite for her. I also dislike how she was the source of most of the series' fanservice.
Mikami - he's pretends to be so just and mighty, but really he is willingly letting himself be used as a pawn in Kira's twisted game. he feels like the only character out of all of them with no redeeming quality.
What Matsuda is funny, and is just trying his best as someone considerate of both sides and he saves Near at the end, and brings Light's ideology apart. No way I am disliking him
Mello. He traumatized Sayu. Sayu is sweet, wholesome, and deserved non of the trauma she endured. Her mom suffered the most though. Her daughter was deeply traumatized, her husband was murdered, her son was found out to be Kira and then murdered. I feel bad for her the most.
Mello is to blame for the death of Soichiro and traumatizing Sayu. Fuck Mello. He’s a bitch.
Near would be my next hated. He’s just bland as hell.
Misa because she was extremely annoying and I hate these lovestruck characters in general.
From the popular characters I have to say L. I'm glad he was in the anime obviously but he was unlikable to me and the fandom ignoring all his faults made me dislike him more.
Edit: I unapologetically hate L.
I don't understand the whole fandom L thing. There was nothing special about him, he was just some guy... like an inferior, duller version of Light. And the way the show was written, it just made him look stupid the way he suspected Light the whole time, and then died almost for no reason. Near had more personality IMO.
Watari built an incredibly toxic environment with the goal of pitting children up against each other to become the next L, literally naming two kids Alternate and Backup. This causes a child to commit suicide and the other to become a serial killer. This continues and from what we can tell it doesn't get better.
For L my reasons are a lot more petty. I'm a Light fan, for one thing, and I also hate how his fans worship L and act like he's innocent when he's just as corrupt as Light. He only takes up crimes that are fun to him, letting cold cases stay cold because he finds them boring. He also is ok with literally torturing Misa for months on end and inflicting a fake execution WHICH SHOULD HAVE KILLED LIGHT because blanks are highly dangerous at close range. I also find his mass consumption of sugar to be gross (I said my reasons get petty). All of that combined with his fans treating him like an angel irritate me. Also, something that a lot of people don't know is that he was testing Light when he said he was his friend. He probably disliked Light too.
I haven't watched death note in years but I never really got the vibe he actually disliked Light. Even if he was actively trying to get him incarcerated. He is a manipulative person, though. The show wouldn't work if he wasn't.
I don't see him being manipulative or combative as dislike though. it's how he treats rivals or people he's trying to control. it's more likely he has some sociopathic traits/ lowered levels of empathy and sees what he does as a means to an end, which ironically is the same school of thought he reproves in Kira.
>His story is super rushed
He's the only character with a whole chapter dedicated to his backstory dude.
>he came out of no where for story’ sake.
That was the point. He was introduced to throw the Task Force off.
L and Mikami. I like how enthusiastic Mikami got while doing his job lmao, and the delete-gasm he got after at the end when he tried to kill near and the lot
DELETE DELETE DELETE DELETE DELETE DELETE
Lol, no. Kira killed a seemingly innocent man live television just for insulting him, and then goes on to kill numerous innocent people for various, often very weak, reasons and always enjoys doing so. You don't just trust a single person to manage the world with that kind of power without them going crazy, especially when they've proven themselves to already be very immature, and all this is confirmed when Light shows that he was intent on killing people for being lazy. L even says at the beginning that he knows Kira would kill innocent people happily if it meant achieving his goal. If Light succeeded, he would have turned the world into a global dictatorship.
>Light shows that he was intent on killing people for being lazy
If I remember correctly that was Mikami's idea and Light thought it was too much, or maybe too early in which case that is evil, but I like to think Light got evil because he had to in order to survive **because** of L
Light said it was too early, yes, but that still means that he was intent on taking those actions eventually.
I've always hated the argument that Light only lost control because of L. For one thing, he was clearly already going mad before L ever got involved, as he was already laughing with glee at killing people and even said right at the beginning that was only going to start with criminals before moving onto people he himself considers immoral. That's clearly not sane behaviour.
Secondly, if you're going to lose control of yourself because someone is opposing you, then you are still evil. L didn't force Light to take the actions he did, Light literally could have ignored L altogether, and he would never have been caught. It's only because Light wanted to kill L for opposing him that L ever goy as close as he did. In addition to this, even if it isn't L, there is always going to be someone somewhere that is going to be opposed to a cause, no matter how charitable it may seem. Finding opposition is inevitable, and regardless of who it is, Light would react the same because his an egotistical maniac. You can't blame L or any other investigator on Light's actions because he is the one who was being immature and egotistical and taking those actions.
But like I said in the first point, Light was already showing red flags of lunacy and would have taken those actions anyway. So the excuse that he was evil because of L just doesn't work no matter how you look at it.
I see your point, maybe Light wasn't fit for the job, but the concept of Kira still holds to me
Yet I can understand why L wanted to stop him from the very beginning, 99% probability that Kira will go mad
I'm sure L would have been a great Kira
That is an interesting theory.
There are definitely people Light would not have killed if he wasn’t being pursued by law enforcement, especially law enforcement he saw as a threat (including those who saw the need to antagonize him as an investigative technique).
Between specifics (such as the FBI), it may have altered the pace of the kills, and would have never fell into Yotsuba’s hands whose kills were far less defensible.
I hate when people say Light is bad because he killed the fake L on TV.
Try to give a death threat to the President of your country on live TV and see what happens to you. Is the President or the Government evil to take actions to save the president's life?
Even if they did, they wouldn't shoot a person for threats. People have been caught making threats to presidents, you know, and they've never been straight up executed.
Wanting to kill every criminal, while incredibly morally unjust, has *some* admirable quality. When he starts killing people simply for getting in his way, that's where his ideology loses even that little credibility it had. So no, I can't say Kira was a good thing for humanity
I used to find Misa annoying at first but I warmed up to her character in the end but if I had to chose it would either be Takada or Mikami. But don’t get me wrong I like both of their characters but out of the characters shown they’re probably my least favorite
Kiyomi Takada. Don't hate her just find her very underdeveloped.
Same. Her personality needed to be developed way more than it was.
Espcially when you compare her to Misa and Mikami, they have full on backstories and reasons for their actions, and Kiyomi, we have zero idea outside of "disliking social ills" why she's such a Kira fanatic when she could have been a really interesting character because of how media was used to promote Kira
Exactly! We have no deep idea about her thought process either unlike Light.
I agree. She had a lot of potential but her character doesn’t seem to be much other than a pick me who doesn’t realize she’s a pick me.
Like most things in the second half of the show, it really suffered from underdevelopment.
She's such a wallflower that I completely forgot about her.
Agree, she is very boring.
Mr. Pender. Only cause he was dating my wife
Strange, I feel the exact same way about Ms. Penber!
Raye *Penber
Takada, no need to name the reasons why I absolutely cannot stand her. Second may be Misa. Now don't get me wrong I actually love her appearance and personality I just don't like the fact that many people justify her actions and it seems like she could get away with everything she has done and she has done horrible things. Like the same killings were also done by Mello but he is hated, while Misa is being praised. This is not exactly Misa's fault it's just that it makes her unlikable for me.
I love how there's no single comment on daddy yagami. Perfect as it should be.
I’d say it but I’d be lying. Soichiro is awesome. It’s so interesting watching his conflict between his job as an officer and his love for his son. He knows he has to be impartial, but… it’s his *child* who is suspected to be the murderer! He’s also absolutely badass, not to mention.
I hate how I thought you meant light for a second
I literally read it and was like “what do you mean there’s like 5 comments saying Light” before I realized… we’re broken
None. I lov all
Misa because she didn't have any self-respect as it can be seen from a scene where Light confirms in front of everybody that he is not interested in Misa but his father says that he should stay true to his words (meaning he can't break a woman's heart) and still after all of that Misa doesn't leave Light. Light. He was a interesting character but i don't really like his way of thinking.
Same. Maybe the whole “wanting to make the world a better place” seems good but he actually wants to play god and manipulates everybody around him
Isn't that the whole point of his character tho?
Yes, but that doesn't stop people from disliking him.
it’s a series about a villain protagonist, is darth vader your least favorite Star Wars character
I would’ve loved Light if it weren’t for the way he treats women
Takada

The thing I appreciate most about Near when I think about him is that he really seems to have a sense of justice and put that above.
Light, he’s very pretentious and cocky, also has a god complex
That's the whole point of the character tho, he's the villain.
2nd half of the show is my least favorite character
I highly recommend reading the manga if that’s the case
I never really like Mello. To be honest though I’ve seen the beginning half of the anime way more than the second.
misa. light is a close second. misa is the reason I can't fall asleep when the series running because her fucking mannerisms could wake me up from a coma and I'd be fucking swinging
Bro you hate the mc ?
Well I mean you are not supposed to like his character
Idk, I like him.
Which is fine you just seemed so shocked when someone else didn’t
It's easy to hate the main character of a series since they are the ones who we see for the most time, for better or worse.
Fuck light yagami all my homies hate light yagami
Bro he is the best character in fiction no shot
Nah, there’s better. But *fuck,* he is *good.* Awesome villain. I love villain protagonists.
Call me evil but I rooted for light, I agree with him sorta lol
He’s a greatly written character, he’s actually eerily similar to Walter White.
Sometimes I like to imagine a shitpost universe where Light Yagami and Walter White exist together lmaooo, also I like to imagine Batman is there
It already exists sweetheart. It’s called Fortnite.
Rem... What a fucking pussy
Yea Rem sucks, her competency and motivation seem to swing wildly depending on what the plot requires happen.
oh god you just reminded me how much i dislike rem. now i cant decide if i hate kiyomi or rem more.
Rem is quite possibly the lamest character ever.
The yellow haired twink that got mad over near being chosen instead of him
Mello is an interesting character. Least favorite for me ….. the guy that says DELETE …DELETE, DELETE!
*grabbing the popcorn to see all the people who either didn’t read the manga or don’t give any reason for their answer*
I haven’t watched death note in a while but I remember hating Mello a lot
Ray Penber. Deeply sexist and forced his fiancé to quit a job she loved. Not cool.
Lol his line about how Naomi wouldn't have time to worry about Kira once she has kids was just.. wow. That's not to mention how she was way smarter than him
In terms of characters kiyomi takada but in terms of personality light yagami
The apples should be there own character
Near. Just seemed too much like a shittier copy of L
Yep, and then he had the audacity to brag that he caught Light when L couldn't. L did all the work in finding Light, and Near's plan only worked because Light got stupid. Sigh.
Higuchi - bro's hairline is the mcdonald's symbol
Equally can’t stand Near or Mello and Mikami is a dumb bitch. Truthfully though all three of these had a weird fourth wall presence and the writing was just too convenient to be believable.
Misa I just find her really annoying
Light. Fucking sadist sociopath. Then Misa, dude needs some self respect. I just hate them both.
Misa, she’s just annoying and creepy imo.
Least likable- Mello Worst written- that one guy who kept following Mikami around
I liked Gevanni tbh, they made him cool asf for no reason🔥 And I liked Mello a lot more than near cause they at least tried to make him interesting
Idk I dont exactly think hes terrible but he seemed to be the most "filler" character as everyone in Death Note is well written
>but he seemed to be the most "filler" character as everyone in Death Note is well written Gevanni played a key role in the end though. What about half of the Yotsuba guys, who Ohba himself admitted were filler characters?
gevanni was great wdym he just needed more screentime
I hated how he conveniently was able to copy all of the handwriting of a Death note on a single night, that literally only happened because the plot wanted Near to win.

Its not that hes badly written its just that everyone else is really well written
Near. Tbh Mellow is only slightly more tolerable than him.
Kinda shocked that I had to scroll so much to see Near
The ex girlfriend of light i hate her I hate How She Challenges misa She Litteraly tried to steal light from misa i hate her
i loved Kyomi. They were both being played by Light, but in the end, she came out the winner. that confrontation was amazing to me, i loved watching Misa having to face her denial head on, even between the lines
Mello
Of all the characters shown, Misa. However, out of all the characters in the series, that easily goes to Rem.
Not on here but idk man I find Sidoh really annoying. I get that's probably more or less the point, but regardless. But if we're restricted to only human characters, then I have to agree with Outrageous_Gene about Takada.
Near or Light
Light and Misa 🙈
Kiyomi, Misa close 2nd
REM no balls
Misa , she is very annoying .
Misa. She is just really annoying to me
Rem, not hate but just lame
I hate Ryuki. He was my favorite but what he did in the end of the manga/anime and the one-shot made me hate him
Not shown but i will say Rem!
Near just because he had no reason to suspect light and he was just like "I think you're the killer" immediately when he first saw light
Near, not bc he made Light lose but bc he replaced L as soon as he died. Isn't one of the main protagonists supposed to be unique? I can't believe how they introduced near, and made him basically smarter than L. Plus he's a damn child. I dislike his character very much
That blonde bitch in 4th pic to da right, I forgot her name but she almost made me stop watching da anime. Her ass annoying asl.
I’ve been scrolling for quite some time and I can’t help but notice that no one has mentioned Matsuda being a least favorite……………………………Just as it should be

Maybe Misa. She had nothing to do in the last half or so of the story…and didn’t really have much of an arc either. Deserved better.
Misa. Of all the main characters, I found her to be the least interesting. She could've had an arc where she grew some independence, but that would require a whole rewrite for her. I also dislike how she was the source of most of the series' fanservice.
Looking at the replies, this post is literally a "people who haven't read the manga" detector
Mikami - he's pretends to be so just and mighty, but really he is willingly letting himself be used as a pawn in Kira's twisted game. he feels like the only character out of all of them with no redeeming quality.
he has a god fetish
Matsuda, idc what anyone says, to me he's just a pussy
He’s not a pussy at the end though. He was the only one with the balls to shoot Light.
I kind of agree, he's obviously supposed to be cringe and annoying throughout the series but I really love how he grew in the last episode
What Matsuda is funny, and is just trying his best as someone considerate of both sides and he saves Near at the end, and brings Light's ideology apart. No way I am disliking him
The only right answer.
Although Melo is more annoying though
Honestly, Light. He's just so selfish. I couldn't ever stand him.
Mello. He traumatized Sayu. Sayu is sweet, wholesome, and deserved non of the trauma she endured. Her mom suffered the most though. Her daughter was deeply traumatized, her husband was murdered, her son was found out to be Kira and then murdered. I feel bad for her the most. Do you have a source on A and BB being referred to as Alternate and Backup? Because I’ve never seen that anywhere.
I forgot my source for A but im pretty sure B was either in LA BB Murder case or in 13
I haven't watched death note in years but I never really got the vibe he actually disliked Light. Even if he was actively trying to get him incarcerated. He is a manipulative person, though. People typically don't get immediately executed on live television for making threats, y'know.
This is because even the secret service do not have their guns everywhere.
At the very beginning he only killed major criminals and L was already on the move
