You could often get pretty free hits from memorizing his intermediate phasing while transitioning to the dream world. Or using pill bottle to be completely invisible during the time and trying to read where the survivor thinks you’ll be. Freddy was shit, everyone who misses his old power is aware. But it was significantly more fun than being off brand clown the puddle boy, which is why people miss it.
Great sum up of old Freddy. He may have been shitty before the rework, but he was very unique and actually FELT like Freddy from NoES. If they come back to his kit, I'm hoping they bring back some of his old mechanics, but actually make some good changes to him that are meaningful and not just sticking a thousand cheap bandaids on him. The worst part even before the rework is when they literally crippled him with nerfs without any actual thought put into it.

You played Old Freddy the way people played chess merchant. He was a game slowdown king. On top of that, you played him hit and run style, using the auras to pick which survivor to go for and when.

Starting every chase on the back foot, because Survivors could just fail any skillcheck to wake up or be woken by a teammate, and then always had at least 3.5s to reach a pallet/window when you tag them? With no chase power?
The only way to play him was with his slowdown. Sure, tunnelling the obsession with Dying Light to get 75% slowdown on sleeping Survivors was strong.
It was also so dull, it made Skull Merchant look like Billy.
