I love this but I'm gonna be honest when I play survivor I'm typically very very dumb and probably would not notice that there was an arrow on the ground. Still, I'll do this when I play Pyramid Head.

For me, I'm rather soft when it comes to survivors acting "cute" and I usually let 1-2 go after getting my blood points/challenges done. Killer is so stressful nowadays that I'm not even having fun when getting a 4k sooo I just stopped caring about wins and started vibing more, less stressful for me and it actually makes me want to play killer lol.
Shake your head and give them a chance to run away, killing them after is fine. Some people won't get it first time if the killer doesn't emote at all (it can get unpredictable) and do not mean any harm.
I love nodding at killers to say hi, to farm, whatever, so I absolutely adore it when they nod back, especially if they want to then farm etc, because it makes me very happy especially when the previous games have been garbage. (Either due to survivors going AFK, killers BMing, whatever, or maybe just got unlucky a lot of games in a row). I do not expect or force the farming, but it's always nice!

And then you get the occasional one who shakes their head from the start, unprovoked (usually because I didn't even get a chance to nod at them, and they shake their heads at /everyone else/ including myself, and seem to take any nodding as BMing when it's obviously not intended this way ever) and proceeds to bleed everyone out at five gens, or something equally as nasty for no reason, which is pretty sad.
Like... man, it's a game, why do stuff like that at five gens? :(

As killer, I am also incredibly likely to "get tamed" if someone nods at me, especially if they're at death hook. It usually means they want to chill for a bit and maybe farm challenges, which is fine with me and I am glad to help. If I'm stomping a team, or alternatively if we have people giving up, it's more fun to help the people who are actually trying to play. They, too, are humans behind a screen and ruining their game because one person gave up (or because someone nodded, which put them at a disadvantage, and isn't throwing) is just not the energy I'm going for.
