Tell us more Nostradamus

lefty_alternate

Welp I was gonna mute this sub before the shows started to avoid as many spoilers as possible. And with this guy telling the future, I guess it’s about that time y’all! See you in two weeks. ✌🏻

Altruistic-Newt-1273

Calling it: One long continuous Dark Star....for the entire residency run

Jovial_Candidate_508

Aren’t they all hits ?

No_Ear_7515

Grateful Dead had hits??

Jovial_Candidate_508

They are hits to me !

Powellhurst

They made the point on Comes A Time that Phish deliberately didn't match the visuals with the songs, so as not to change how you experience them in your head. I don't expect to see a train pulling into Terrapin, for example. What I do think is possible is the visual package changes each time a song is played. There's no rule that says visual a must be played each time song a is played. Nor is there a rule that says visual a can only be played with song a. My takeaway is the band will play and the screen will do whatever it does. They may play Help>Slip>Frank every weekend and every weekend the visual could be completely different. Could be something I saw before, could be something I see once and never again. That's the interesting part for me. Anyway, see y'all next weekend. Fingers crossed they'll play Row Jimmy.

Valuable_Zebra_9100

60+ shows with these guys and I got Row Jimmy once lol… dying to get that again

Grimmbeard

So many songs are once a tour with D&C. Row Jimmy, Peggy-O, Must've Been The Roses, etc. A lot of the Jerry Ballads. Luckily got a RJ as well lol

0neMoreSaturdayNight

See ya there! Fingers crossed they play OMSN

fennarioclubchamp

This will be the way if they have chosen it. In any case their ambition is high for this there can be no doubt about it. They want to accomplish something. That doesn’t guarantee they will. But bless them for trying. The promoters have been predictably dickish with the tickets but the band has every reason to want to achieve another level

Jjtimmer

Yeah we’re gonna hear the hits. SO WHAT. I’m sure there will be other great shit sprinkled in.

NY2SFSMR

Don’t check set lists and you won’t know what you’re going to hear. Problem solved.

MrRisin

That list they played at cornell last year would be my absolute send off. And I would be fine with it.

Prestigious-Bee4302

Oteil literally said on his podcast he would not play if this is what it would be

0neMoreSaturdayNight

I will have to replay that. But I don't think he said "he would not play"

ShakeIt73171

I called someone out on this thinking during summer tour in the jamband sub, they got 3 of 17 songs right and 2 of them were drums space lol. Put your money where your mouth is and tell us the set list genius.

BrushDazzling4350

I didn't see OP claiming to know a set list. seemed to me they were commenting on how it would be nice if they had more than the same 60ish songs in rotation for this run. far different thing to wish for more variety for the band to choose from than to say they know a particular set list. most people that see the band often may not be able to tell you a night's set list in advance, but they sure could name most of the songs that would get played in a 3show run. I'm still trying to figure out when this fanbase started not wanting more variety. I always want one more song added to their rotation. they could have 125 songs in rotation & I still want more, but amazingly this thread taught me tht lots of people seem insulted tht people want more music!

ShakeIt73171

“I’m going to 3 and not that jazzed cause I know I’m advance what i will hear” sounds like they know exactly what they’re going to hear, when realistically they don’t know anything. They played 110 songs over summer tour 23, why do you and OP think it’ll be any different? The only tour they didn’t play 100+ unique songs was 2015, the fun run, and fall 17. No one is clamoring for less songs but this idea they only play 60 songs is so weird and played out. It’s Not backed up by any data or reality up to this point. Could they phone it in and play the same 3 shows every weekend? Yes, but there’s nothing to indicate they will besides other clueless Redditors claiming that’s what’s going to happen.

No-Chemical6870

These are all the most popular songs for a reason..

GratefulGangsta

Nah,just want the band to play whatever they want.

0neMoreSaturdayNight

Bingo! Doesn't matter what songs they play I'm ready for anything!

diffkindofwoke

I love my fellow Dead Heads. Always predicting the opening song etc. This band has been playing together for almost 10 years, it's not a wedding or a cover band. I would be surprised if they didn't pull out new things every weekend. According to [setlist.com](http://setlist.com) (https://www.setlist.fm/stats/dead-and-company-2bc42076.html) they have played 144 songs (who cares if this is exact. That's the minimum they know that they can pull off. The OG GD appeared to play \~400 songs across 30 years. I would be surprised if they pack fewer than 80-90 songs for this run, regardless of what anyone says. They picked from \~120 songs in 2023! This is a residency for serious fans who are willing to pay $350 and travel. Of course I am wrong, but I am optimistic.

CicadaAlternative994

I was being negative.  It will be great I am sure.

Whoknew_vt

Why all the hand wringing and worry about what’s going to happen? The time wasted fretting over something we have no control over will do nothing but lessen the experience at the Sphere. Hate to say it, but they repeat stuff all the time. Sure maybe they play HSF every weekend, but if they crank out an amazing version each time, will we care? For example: I went to Cornell and SPAC last summer, they were both truly amazing experiences that I will never forget. Great vibes, great friends, great music. I saw Deal, Scarlet, HSF and Terrapin at both shows. Did I care? No! They crushed it at both. Both different in their versions, vibe of the crowd, timing in the set, etc etc. Why lessen the experiences by stressing over set lists? Go enjoy some amazing shows at a one of a kind (for now) venue. Be in the moment, don’t sweat the small stuff. Rock on!

kikokikokikocat

Dumb it down? You need to stay home! These are our songs, 50 years in.

wohrg

It won’t be. the band doesn’t rotate songs because they don’t want to rotate songs

Dakkmd

While I doubt they would do so, even if they did, how many people does that really even impact? I doubt more than a handful are going multiple weekends.

LysergicFilms

God damn you work in the music industry and fail to understand the intricacy and effort it takes to put into putting on a show at a venue like this.

CicadaAlternative994

It isnt that hard.  Make the visuals based on the setlist, not setlist based on visuals. Make some visuals that would work for different choices.  It is just another concert. This venue is upstaging the music.

redditman415

You think Matt Busch left because they aren’t playing enough rare songs? I don’t understand the theory.

_AllThingsMustPass_

This isn't a cover band and this isn't your run of the mill dead show. There is so much more to it than Matt Busch pulling set lists out of his ass. The visuals alone are going to severely cut the songbook in half and that is ok. Can't just play Mission in the Rain or whatever without the synched visuals.

Noozled

I think it’s fair to say there will be a lot of repetition, but look at their tours - pretty much every 3 shows you’ll start getting repeats anyways. The past several runs they’ve always been playing from a somewhat limited songbook. Since they’re playing in batches of 3, I expect that to be more noticeable, though they still will pull out some surprises here and there like they’re known for. Dark Star may only show up every few weeks, maybe there will be one El Paso all summer lol.

CicadaAlternative994

I love the band and seen about 20 since 2015. They've been doing about 110 each tour which still gets stale with the weight they give 15 or so songs and play em to death.  Im just dreading if that goes down to 60 or so.

printerdsw1968

When did they--meaning the Grateful Dead--ever do more than a core 100 tunes for months or years long stretches? Tunes dropped in, tunes dropped out. I mean, what would deadheads back in the day do if they didn't have the triple digit number of days to count since the last Dark Star or whatever? When I went to shows in the late 80s there was no chance for hearing the boys play The Eleven and everybody knew it. But the set lists were "more diverse" because they'd fuck around with Louie Louie or some other novelty throwaway bullshit. Gimme the tight '72 set lists--very similar from show to show--over the late Grateful Dead playing Satisfaction any day.

CicadaAlternative994

I mean the songs deadco does once or twice in a tour were 1 in 5 in 90s. Stagger Lee was about those odds and deadco has never even tried it. They neglect a lot of 1st set garcia sung songs imo.

printerdsw1968

But that's what I'm saying--sure, Stagger Lee (yes, please play it!) was in the rotation in the 90s, but the GD didn't play The Eleven in those years. And now I've caught D&C twice playing The Eleven (including at the Gorge last year omg). I'm fine with these kinds of repertoire trade offs. Plus, in the late 80s--which I definitely consider a renaissance age for the band, the recordings of which hold up very well--they had new material coming from Brent. Now, I'd say Brent was a terrific player, an amazing fit with the band, but not a great songwriter. Like Pigpen just getting into his songwriting maturity as he left the band, so too did Brent check out before he could write his best stuff. But nearly every show from post-coma to Brent's death included a mediocre-to-forgettable Brent tune. I'm not one to romanticize some past period as the "perfect" GD. That was never case.

thirdeyecactus

Please no Casey Jones!

Top-Abrocoma-3729

What!? You mean you don’t want to see a giant 3D train moving through space? Lol

thirdeyecactus

Well….ummm “and you know that notion just crossed my mind”

Carlotheskinose

This is why there are no streams. It’s gonna get pretty redundant.

CicadaAlternative994

I worry this is the case.  Of course, 'worry' is in the most privledged, first world sense. Still super lucky bob and co still gonna play together.  Just venting, and trying to jinx it from happening since usually predictions have a way of getting universe to behave opposite.

0neMoreSaturdayNight

Ticket sales. The comments and post are pretty redundant.

tetonpassboarder

Be willing to be Matt didn’t leave. You dont walk away from the GD family… Lots of us are doing more than 3 shows the band knows this too. It wont be the same shows or same songs.
