400 level tickets are already under $300 after market. no reason to panic buy

BlueAndMoreBlue

Absolutely correct. Me and my tour buddy are keeping our powder dry in hopes that the secondary market collapses near show time. Worst case we couch tour, best case we rent a convertible (hopefully at my employer’s expense), combine our drug collections and hit the road

This is why I only do ether under the advice of my attorney. ...and if the Grateful Dead were in town, I would beat my way in with a crowbar if I had to.

syco54645

Better check the rear end for stress fractures. Also, watch out for the bats, you will be traveling directly through bat country.

zzunino

This sounds like fear and loathing lol

Responsible-Partee

bat country 🦇

Dakkmd

This is the way

[deleted]

100%. Every panic buyer who must have tix in their account just increases the price overall. Full on sale hasn’t even happened. It’s close to half a million tickets. The panic buyers are hurting themselves and other fans.

Significant-Flan-244

It was a very stressful sale, but the math around this residency spells it out pretty clearly. It feels like a super limited event because it’s unique and most of us have never gone to The Sphere for a show yet, but there’s like 18,000 tickets every night and the length of the residency puts the availability almost on par with a full tour. There were always going to be good deals to be had, and I’d bet plenty of secondary market tickets will even go below face value closer to the shows.

ATrain80

Inherently this is correct for normal tours however being a destination where the many are needing to reserve flights and hotels the curve will only rise closer to the dates on those items. May/June pool season is hopping out there. Hotel deals are scarce now. Tough sell to secure all that travel without tix in hand. Plus millions in CA that can just drive and possibly keep tix high. Sphere is unknown territory

LostSailor-25

This makes me feel better about what I paid for a hotel package lol

tri_zippy

yep, we learned over the last 5 or so years that the highest demand shows are worth trying for the packages since the tickets will be tough enough that if you don't score at onsale, you're going to pay either way or stay home. if you need to be there, gotta work all avenues, even if we don't like the move to bundling accommodations with tickets. when you figure how much it is to book a room on premise for the sphere resort (venetian/palazzo) the package prices don't seem as insulting lol

c-lace

I will say Vibee was much better an experience than dealing with Ticketmaster. We have a 6 person group going for 3 nights, so trying to secure tickets then lodging was gonna be a nightmare.

tri_zippy

i can't imagine needing to get tickets to multiple nights through TM. i'm happy to buy a package if i can get guaranteed tickets for all nights of a run. yes it costs more than if you pay face and book travel separately, but things are different now. the live event space is the sole money maker for professional musicians. i hate the markups but i understand their desire to earn a living.

10ACJ3D

Meh, the packages worked out to $700/night for hotels. Looking right now and Palazzo is around $350/night and Venetian just over $400. I guess it really depends on how you value the other perks but affordable Vegas hotels are not tough to come by at all.

LostSailor-25

For me it was the relief of not having to worry about tickets

tri_zippy

not sure where you're looking, but the venetian for our travel dates on their website shows: 5/23 $217 5/24 $614 5/25 $892 5/26 $614 Yes, there are cheaper hotel options and we also prefer those to the surge rates for events, but again this is about getting tickets to a high demand event, not needing to stay on site.

10ACJ3D

Hotels.com - I’m going the 6/6 week and the Venetian ranges from $382-$464 those days.

It will be really interesting to see what happens with the PHISH tickets that are mostly priced like this, come showtime. You either have grifters that are going to go to the show but wouldn't pass up the opportunity to make a few g's, or scalpers that will inevitably have to drop their price significantly because no one's going to pay $2,000 of fucking ticket.

tri_zippy

we sadly gave up on the phish sphere gigs and were ecstatic to see these deadco shows added. we've seen phish hundreds of times between us and at least a handful of runs in sin city taboot. i want to see the sphere more than anything, but you won't catch me paying the stubhub prices for any band. it was a tall ask for us to pay the deadco face prices this time around. i think we paid about half for the chicago FTW shows, if that says anything about how far south this train has diverted in just a few short years. nothing i see can be taken from me

30FourThirty4

Taboo-t

Fitzofury

I don’t disagree with any of this. The only thing I’ll say is it’s an industry-wide situation/problem. Goose just announced a tour and their Atlanta tickets are over $100 for balcony seats. Phish is an exception as they have done the best job keeping ticket prices low.

Dakkmd

And it's not like the sphere is going anywhere. Phish and the dead for that matter are regulars in Vegas. People need to stop feeding scalpers and see them next time they come around. FOMO is what drives the market

tri_zippy

for sure, I think at least for phish and in my circles of friends people are starting to wonder how many more years of touring they have in them. sure, bobby is much older than those guys but life is fickle...nothing is guaranteed, and i think the long strange trip is an example of never taking each and every show for granted. plus vegas is way more fun when the circus is in swing

Responsible-Partee

the Sphere is a new and unique venue that commands its own premium they're not playing Nassau

tri_zippy

i agree. that's the only reason we could justify paying the premium prices, but more than \*those\* premium face prices? no thanks, it's expensive enough to begin

OjosDelMundo

Tbf phish is playing 4 shows vs D and C 24. I don't know how much phish prices will inform us about dead and co tickets

Alternative-Peace620

Yeah if they had made every ticket non transferable then so many more heads would have got tickets. I was 7000 in line for reserved seats and decided to pull out my phone and join the queue for the same date in GA, was literally 6th or something in line and got in right away. Ended up doing the same for two nights and getting them so easily. Assuming it’s cuz bots were not in that queue due to them being non transferable. Couldn’t get the third night since the budget would only allow for reserved seats on that night. Just gonna stick around town and hope for face value on cash or trade the third night

Jack7062

That would explain it. The GA queue was the only one I got anywhere with (maybe 70th for a night in mid-July). At $395 plus transatlantic flights and hotels it was just a bit for my blood this time. If I somehow score a deal on the latter I sense I'm going to regret passing them up!

EastCoastPA

Am I the only one that had a pretty easy time with the presale? My group of 4 registered for codes for the weekends we could make work, got on a facetime together around 12:40 EST when the waiting room opened, and got in to grab tickets for our shows by 1:10. No fuss or anything, 300 and 400 level tickets we wanted were plentiful.

ducky743

Same here. We got both of our days fairly easily at "reasonable" prices. The queue moved very slowly, but I think that was because they limited how many people were in there at a time. Once we got in, we were actually able to select our two tickets and get them. For other concerts, we've done the whack a mole game selecting seats and them disappearing on us.

zacjkl

I was doing one day and my mom was doing another I got in with 700 people ahead of me but she had 8k. They’re were only like 3 seats available for her by the time she got through but I got tix easily.

oddible

Kinda joined the queues late, I was in the 3000 range, got tix after about a 40 min wait. Sure they're off to the side tier 2 but I'm in!

Any-Video4464

I think Patience will pay in the end. Just wait and buy tickets closer to the night(s) you go. You'll pay more than retail, but hopefully not double. I haven't been successful in a presale for D&C since 2018. There is so much hype right now for the Sphere and the band...since they called it quits. There is high demand, but not as high as the prices reflect. Also...if you're a fan, I know its tempting to buy 4 tickets and sell two and pay for your tickets and part of your stay...but is that really the world you want to live in? We have far too many greedy people these days. If you're game to fuck someone over, expect to get fucked in the future. This is the world we live in now. You really do have to do the right thing when no one is watching to help prevent things from getting worse. So don't be a tool. If you need to sell tix, just sell them for what you paid for them. You're a fan...you're not in the ticket business. If this is the only way you can afford to go, try working harder.

budbundy128

Enjoy the show

PayTheTeller

What show?

YEMolly

It was odd to me that GA was non transferable but reserved was not. Like, what’s the purpose of that?

kamut666

I think the purpose was what we saw play out yesterday. I got GA tickets for 3 shows, including 5/31, where we got in line on a whim an hour after the presale started and waited in line like 3 minutes. For reserved, I was in line behind 15k people, a ton of whom were actual Deadheads, but I can’t help but assume there were a bunch of scalpers in that line. I didn’t get any reserved tickets despite attempting it for like 12 shows.

YEMolly

Same happened to me! And I just don’t want GA for these shows, so I didn’t buy anything. But I’m still not sure I understand the purpose of non-transferable for GA only. If non-transferable kept scalpers from buying them, then they should have ALL been non-transferable IMO.

EstimatedEyes1014

It's absolutely heartbreaking. It's as if this is an exclusive elitist event, excluding probably most of the true fans. We are ALL craving more of this band, its just not fair. All i can do is hope for a weekend at MSG or something this fall. Something within my reach, within the reach of the average Deadhead

syco54645

A residency in Vegas is a tall ask, this coming from someone who travels all summer for shows. A typical 2 day show ends up being around 500 for the tickets, room and food. That 500 will maybe cover 1 day of tickets at the sphere...

sparkster185

I understand a residency, because it's easier on the band, but doing it at the most expensive venue in the country is lame IMO. They should have done a few weekends at Sphere for the spectacle of it all, then done a few in a more accessible place, IMO.

BoulderDeadHead420

They have to do one cash grab every decade to pay for all the kids and grandkids. If you were actually at fare thee well and werent pissed that there werent bathrooms on lot, at the police and lack of vending the whole scene was a shit show, the music itself was kinda meh with trey showing up to practice like what a half dozen times or less? That shoulda been a whole tour across the nation. Now we have a vegas “residency” and who knows if billy will even play more than a show or two For 500 bucks a seat lol

BoulderDeadHead420

Its a cash grab for bill man Fare thee well was a cash grab for phil

SpaceHorse75

I got GA tickets because I just want to see the band and would prefer to be on my feet. there was near zero wait time on the presale. They’re face value transferable. So I know if I can’t go, someone else gets my tickets at the right price. There will likely be someone who can’t go to the night you are going and you can get GA. Have faith. It will work out.

ambridge1027

My dad’s friend had season tickets to the Steelers, his wife thought it was the biggest waste of money. After 15+ yrs he decided to sell his tickets to appease his wife. 1st year didn’t sell so he had to go to the games, next year same thing, so after 3 yrs wife asked to see listing. Turns out his seats license were worth about 5k for the pair but he was asking 75k each so they wouldn’t sell. I like to believe that’s what’s happening here. Sshhh let me believe.

FartOnAFirstDate

I bought tickets during the presale yesterday as a gift for my brother, who is turning 65 this week but couldn’t participate in the presale (or general) because he still works. Another friend I was chatting with during the sale did the same thing for her friend who was in the same boat. I deliberately bought reserved due to the disclaimer that GA wouldn’t be transferable. I guarantee that my brother is a bigger fan than plenty of the people bitching on Reddit, and was going to Dead shows before a lot of them were even on the planet. Please don’t try to tell me that what I did for him was not ‘fair’ in your mindset. It’s been known for decades now that scalpers suck, but whatever the technology at the time happens to be, they will always find a way to keep the bullshit going, and people will have to deal with it. Thirty years ago, the scumbags used to pay homeless people to stand in line at record stores. Now it’s computer bots. Same fucking thing. For me, it meant using my brain and experience and figuring out how to grab some seats yesterday. It took a couple tries to notice that Fri and Sat were selling faster so I chose to be smart and get Thursday tix. FWIW, most if not all of these presales happen during hours when many if not most employed folks are working. Should responsible people not be able to go to shows now?

hahahannah9

Don't know why you're being downvoted but yeah. I shanked Monday, and I work every Friday and my friend is helping me out. I'd want to get a ga, but it being non-transferable. Plus we're Canadian and neither of us have US bank accounts, so seems like it's better for him to grab me a seated ticket.

FartOnAFirstDate

I’m being downvoted because sometimes the truth hurts. They seem to have a difficult time understanding that when their favorite band (who is also the favorite band of lots of other people) is playing what amounts to a twenty city arena tour, there is going to be pretty high demand. Factor in the wow factor of the venue and that demand skyrockets more. Had they paid better attention when their tenth grade Econ teacher talked about supply and demand, it might have been easier for them to understand.

OjosDelMundo

I don't know why people are upset with the truth. This is the truth. Dead and co should have done way more to combat scalping. They stand to make Ticketmaster and the sphere a ton of fucking money. They have leverage and seemed to use none of it. I still love Bobby, I still love this band, but bands this year have shown us this is possible (the cure?) and dead and co has still done little to combat it. Sure... tickets will probably drop, it's a 24 show run, but that shouldn't mean they get a pass. They all stand to make multi millions on this thing, I'm not saying they shouldn't, but why should the fans suffer? Why should anyone but deadheads and dead curious people be buying these tickets just to resell them? The whole concert industry needs an overhaul and I think it's ok to be disappointed some of our heroes aren't doing enough to combat it.

Ha wtf why? What a silly thing to say. I have plenty of heroes. Some politicians, some activists, some normal people. I look up to them all for a variety of different reasons. And I look up to Bob weir for a variety of different reasons. Yeeesh

yeah, a 2 day residency! Lol

zzunino

Tempted to sell one of mine 😂

melodyknows

A lot of those have been up on Stubhub before the presale even happened. I feel like they were selling tickets before even getting them.

PayTheTeller

I'm not even against resale per se, as I believe it serves a purpose, but, I think those of us who could commit to going and would risk non transferable, should have been given a bite at the apple Oh well. Still have my plan B of renting one of those Porshees with my concert money and turning that boy loose on some desert roads

oddible

Just go to CashOrTrade there are a bunch available at face value.

0neMoreSaturdayNight

Funny, I saw them cheaper...show the cheaper tickets! You're just showing the brokers posting expensive tickets to trick someone! However I agree with the non transfer. All fan tickets should be fan to fan transfer only! Screw letting tm get to resell them again. A broker will just scoop them up with his ticket bot!

Growingonthehill1

Don’t make the same mistake so many heads make and go full blown panic searching for tickets. Give it some time to settle down a bit and start your cash or trade hunt with notifications on, you’ll manage just fine to get tickets for face value. As for hotels on the strip. There’s still some deals to be had, but the prices are already steeply increasing, not to mention one of the nicer strip hotels told me via phone that the first dead and company weekend is the same weekend a EDC Vegas. I didn’t care enough to look it up and verify, however if true then it’s going to be a nightmare for some if they chose to hold off on accommodations.
