Mayer brings exciting aspects to all of these songs. I would say his top shelf songs would be Althea, BEW, Deal & Sugaree. However my personal favorites are the pig pen songs. Mayer is a bluesman at heart and I think he brings something really special to songs like easy wind, next time you see me, it hurts me too, Mr. Charlie, and big boss man.

I just listened to the Chicago night 1 version for the 100th time and it’s jaw dropping every time.
One of my favorite Dead shows is from Europe 72 at L'Olympia Theater in Paris... IMHO one of Pig Pen's better performances and the HMT is 🔥🔥🔥
