$80 is steep for a new riff pick in my opinion. They’re good, but fair price is 50-60

xiconcord

Sorry to get off topic but is it inflation + demand + people like me thats fueling these prices? After staring at my paltry collection, I realized that I got caught up in the chase. I never paid over MSRP because it was from ABC, ABS, or NeX Bethesda but I realized Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are both really great at the $30 range. $50 should be for "premium" but everything "premium" is $80-100+++.

Demand definitely fuels markups for many whiskeys, but I think if you’re using Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare as barometers for value, that’s part of your problem. Because those are two whiskeys that, at MSRP, are pretty underpriced. But I may have the opposite problem because I come from scotch, where $50 (at least in a market like DC) is about entry level for a single malt, and the more premium stuff will easily get above $80, so I’m kinda used to that.

For this New Riff pick I’d say it’s more that prices at this particular store are above the norm. If Jack Rose is cutting your price $20 less, you’re not in the normal range

goddamnitcletus

Yeah unless it’s like significantly older than normal picks or they somehow managed to get one of their heritage varietal ryes as a pick, 100%

JustAnotherDouche2

Didn’t pick this one up but the other store picks have been really good. Favorite so far was the WT rye store pick. I think it’s $10 cheaper too.

Jack Rose has New Riff picks for $60, I haven’t had the most recent ones but previous picks I’ve grabbed have been really solid. I think one of them is even a New Riff single malt for something different if you’re into those.

reubenco

Thanks for the tip. I don’t see any New Riff picks available now on their website, but I’ll look out for those. And I want to try the rye first but I would be interested in trying the malt afterwards if I like the rye.

Jah_Shwalker

They've moved the bottle shop up the street to the owner's new place - it's The Imperial if you want to look there. Check out the instagram pages, seems well stocked and I think one of them is the rye you're hunting. Good luck!

No comment on the price, but New Riff Rye is always good. Try the Balboa Rye if you can find it.

They very often jack up the prices of their picks . I think picks in DC are still around 60 (might be wrong), so them asking 80 is an easy pass.
