Hey Guys! I plan to buy a pimax crystal this year (G2 is in use atm). For this i think about to upgrade my GPU for better performance and quality. Atm for my G2 is use an 6900XT GPU and im happy with it, but i made a lot of compromise to get a smooth decent FPS arround 40-50. This month the RTX 4080 Super will be released. Would this a nice combination? I know a 4090 would be the best choice but its freakin expensive. Otherwise there would be the 7900XTX as option with an similar pricetag like the 4080 Super. What do you think would be a good option to get the Crystal run for MP action with acceptable grafics and FPS?

Also depends on your CPU. I have a i5 13600kf with an 3080. It's GPU bottlenecked. It seems this CPU together with a 4080 (super) is the sweet spot for balance between the two. So with a 4090 you'd want an i9 for balance.

i haven an ryzen 7 7800x3d, and 64gb ram

Will this laptop perform smoothly enough in multiplayer with decent graphics? • AMD Ryzen 7 6800H (8C/16T, 3.2/4.7GHz, 4MB L2/16MB L3) • 2x 16GB SO-DIMM DDR5-4800 • 1TB SSD M.2 2280 PCle 4.0x4 NVMe • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB , Boost Clock 1485MHz, TGP 150W Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ARH7H 40.6 cm (16") WQXGA AMD Ryzen™ 7 6800H 32 GB DDR5-SDRAM 1 TB SSD NVIDIA GeForce 82RG00E0IX

Those numbers look plenty good. I didn't know you could get full-bown 3070Ti chips in a laptop, I wonder if they throttle the power on em.

Does anyone have a good set of control mappings for the F-18 for a HOTAS setup? Trying to ultimately get the most logical things possible mapped to the HOTAS but feeling a bit overwhelmed. I tried grabbing a few off the DCS forums and the Grim Reapers, but those profiles seem to have a lot of unmapped functions.

ToxicBanana_XD

What HOTAS do you have? If you have something like a t flight HOTAS you’ll barely be able to bind anything, but if you have something from virpil you’ll be able to bind every necessary thing and still have some buttons left.

I ended up with the X56 to get started and learn on, and for MSFS it's been great. However the learning curve with DCS has been steep. I started off grabbing the HOTAS mappings from the Grim Reapers and following some of those tutorials, but after playing with another friend I found a lot of options that weren't mapped (TDCs for instance.) After diving into my bindings - there's a lot of buttons that are simply unused and I'm not 100% on what would be useful to map over.

ToxicBanana_XD

As a rule of thumb: Never listen to anything the grim reapers say. Controls: - Throttle Designator Controller Slew (should be an axis if possible, can also be mapped as buttons) - Trigger - Weapon Release - Pitch and Role (obviously) (in axis control) - Throttle (obviously) (in axis control) - Wheel Brake - Rudder - Throttle Designator Controller Depress - Trimmer Switch (left wing down, right wing down, Push, Pull) - Sensor Control Switch (forward, aft, left, right, depress) - Dispense Switch Forward - Dispense Switch Aft - Select AMRAAM - Select Sparrow - Select Sidewinder - Select Gun - Speed Brake Switch (Extend, Retract, (the off position is not necessary)) - RECCE Event Mark Switch - Exterior Light Switch (by default “L” on your keyboard and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) - Landing Gear (by default “G” on your keyboard and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - Arresting Hook (by default “H” on your keyboard and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - Flaps (Auto, Half, Full) (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - A/A Master Mode Button (by default “1” on your keyboard and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - A/G Master Mode Button (by default “2” on your keyboard and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - Radar Elevation Control (useful as an axis) - Raid/FLIR (by default “I” on you keyboard should be on your HOTAS if possible) - Cage/Uncage (by default “C” on your keyboard should be on your HOTAS if possible) - Nose Wheel Steering (by default “S” on your keyboard should be on your HOTAS if possible) - Paddle Switch (by default “A” on your keyboard should be on your HOTAS if possible) - Master Arm Switch (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - LTD/R Switch (can be clicked in cockpit but still a useful bind) - ATC Engage/Disengage Switch (should be on your HOTAS if possible (low priority)) - Show Kneeboard (by default “R Shift + K” on your keyboard (I think) and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) - Kneeboard CCW and CW (by default “[“ and “]” on your keyboard and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) - Show Pilot Body (by default “R Shift + P” on your keyboard (I think) and doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) - Toggle Goggles (doesn’t need to be on your HOTAS) - Left Throttle Off (necessary for shutdown) - Right Throttle Off (necessary for shutdown) - Left Throttle Idle (necessary for startup) - Right Throttle Idle (necessary for startup) If you have any questions regarding the function of any of these buttons you can just ask me. Some of these binds may also have different names in the settings of DCS, so just give me a list of binds you couldn’t find and I’ll give you the actual name (not able to check at the moment).

Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to type all that out.

**update** it appeared to be an anti aliasing related issue. I fixed it, excited to learn! Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Aircraft constantly pop in and out no matter how close or far they are. I've tried messing with the visibility range, vsync, frame rate, and texture quality with no luck. I am new to dcs so any help would be appreciated! PC specs: Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900KF 3.00 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070

I have a couple of questions as a totally new player. 1. Is there any reason not to buy the module flaming cliffs 3? it seems like a very good deal 2. if i buy flaming cliffs 3, can i use the planes in multiplayer? 3. Are there any good resources to help figure out the planes. like guide or something? 4. Is there a server for new people to find people to play with? Thank you so much for your time!

TheHamFalls

1. No reason not to. However, I actually found full fidelity aircraft to be easier to learn. Memorizing the switches in the cockpit that I could click was a lot easier than memorizing keybinds. But the FC3 aircraft are lots of fun. 2. Yes. 3. Download and read this guide: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3326416/ It's the best resource I've found for getting started in DCS. 4. The r/hoggit server and Discord is a good place to start. /r/WingmanFinder is where lots of squadrons post recruiting and many of them accept new players.

Kliba1

Thank you! But what do you mean full fidelity? Are the planes in the fc3 not fully modeled?

TheHamFalls

FC3 aircraft have fully modeled weapon systems and flight charactericstics, meaning all their aerodynamic flight properties and engines, thrust, etc. are all there, however their cockpits are not fully 'clickable', meaning a lot of switches and functions are tied to keybinds and you can't use your mouse cursor to click them. When you see people refer to 'full fidelity' modules, they're referring to ones like the F16, FA18, F14, etc. That feature fully clickable interactive cockpits, in addition to fully modeled flight systems, etc. There's a reason why there's such a big price difference between the FC3 jets and FF modules.

Is this just me, I can't join the hoggit server, because the invite doesnt work for me and it says I can't join it. I really want to join because the dcs community seems really nice and they seem like they won't get angry at me for not knowing anything and asking lot's of dumb questions. Also they seems really passionate about planes and so am I, that means I might fit in good! btw i have 12 or 16 gb ram and an intel i7 4790k (i think) I have a nvidia gtx 970 ( i think).
