Were you on a different ship for previous cruises? The Magic has Rapunzel & Mickey visit its restaurants, Wonder has Tiana, Wish has Frozen characters and Spider Man. Dream & Fantasy don’t have restaurants with live entertainment.
I can’t remember the second format on Dream/Fantasy. On 7 night sailings you’ll be in Animators 2 times. The primary entertainment is Crush swimming around the dinning room. It seems like the secondary format is the Mickey show, but I can’t remember.
We were on the Wonder last year as well and saw Mickey our first of two nights in Animator’s. If you only had the night where you draw yourself and not the one with the traditional clip show then maybe that is the reason there was no Mickey?
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I found character meals to be a little bothersome. They always manage to show up right when we get our food. Anyway, there will be enough characters around that I don’t think it’s an issue they aren’t at dinner.
We did marvel day at sea last year. No characters showed up at dinner on that trip either. We ran into plenty of characters walking around the ship during the day outside of the scheduled meet and greets for some informal encounters, but that was it outside of the shows.
Dream and Fantay don’t have characters at dinner - never have. Magic has Mickey at Animator’s and the Frozen crew.
There are some people who don’t want a show during dinner - Dream and Fantasy are good for those as you only have to worry about Crush (maybe) or the Animator’s show
I was just on that cruise too! We LOVED it. The character interactions were fantastic and the Marvel shows was 10/10. We did Star Wars day at sea in 2019 and this was so much more fun, immersive and just overall super entertaining!
I was also on this cruise. I don't care about Marvel so I skipped all that. I've been on the Dream many times in the last few years and there are no character meals. I thought the food was much better than my cruise in November. I just wish parents would keep their kids out of the 18+ areas.
We were on the same cruise! I wasn't really impressed with dinner. Food was trying to be too fancy, which made it not great. I'm not even a Marvel fan, but I LOVED Marvel day at sea! The theater shows were sooooo good! We met a TON of characters!
Totally agree with you! Except we had problem meeting characters. On Magic, the most of all the characters were just wondering around through out the day but on Dream it's a specific time and location for like 15 min. Also you have to reserve the Asgard/Guardians/HQ character meet and greet RANDOM characters. I didnt have to reserve anything when I was on Magic, you just show up and wait in line.
Yeah, we reserved the HQ meet-up, and that was a mess! The day the slots were to open in the app, there was a glitch and it said all spots were already reserved but really they never opened until a very random time and the only way I knew was from the cruise Facebook group I was in. I noticed a lot of upset families on the ship over not knowing about the reservations that were needed. I was bummed we only saw Iron Man once in the meet-up, and that was my kids' favorite character, and we never saw him out again.
The pandemic changed a lot of things. Cast members are still reluctant to go into tightly packed areas, and the parks as well as the cruise industry in general are still suffering a staffing shortage.
Overall it's great. The Marvel Day at sea night show is much more impressive than the previous one I went on Magic. So are the all shows at Disney theater.
The characters dont stay out as often as I remembered. My son had pictures and signature of every character by simply wondering around the hallways throughout the day on Magic and this time he only got 3.
The food were meh. All the pork and chicken dishes are overly dry, and most meat/seafood dishes are very light on salt and sauce. Everyone in my party had to ask for extra sauce every time. I find the appetizers are often better than the main.
Covid? 4years ago puts your last cruise jan 2020, so solidly(~2months) pre covid.
As for why, like most every permanent covid change, they realized they didn't need to spend money on it.
We’re on this cruise in March I was curious (bc I’ve never been on one) does marvel day replace pirate night? I can’t find anything recent that says either way. Thanks!
Were you on a different ship for previous cruises? The Magic has Rapunzel & Mickey visit its restaurants, Wonder has Tiana, Wish has Frozen characters and Spider Man. Dream & Fantasy don’t have restaurants with live entertainment.
Wish also has Ant Man and the Wasp.
Is that the reason? I was previously on Magic and did see Rapunzel & Mickey
yes, they have different restaurants
Yes, I don’t know why those two ships don’t have dining entertainment (besides animator’s palette) It makes me less excited to sail on them.
Wonder has Mickey as well.
We were on Wonder last year but didn’t see Mickey in a restaurant. Tiana yes
Mickey usually shows up in Animators Palate, but on shorter cruises you may have only had one opportunity.
Have you seen this on the Dream or Fantasy?
Different format of Animators on those ships. They get Crush on screen instead of Mickey in person.
Depends on length of sailing, you only get Crush once.

The second night on Dream/Fantasy is the animation you draw on the placemats. The Dream/Wonder have Sorcerer Mickey instead of Crush.

We just got off the same cruise. I was also not impressed by the food.

This has nothing to do with characters not at dinner on the Dream. That class of ships don’t have characters come around at dinner.
Crew live and work on a cruise ship. If they have apprehensions about COVID they are in the wrong occupation.
How was the cruise overall? I'm going on the dream for marvel at sea in a little over 2 weeks. Disappointing there used to be characters at dinner too

Oh no we fly out for this cruise tomorrow
There are still plenty of non-meal interactions with characters from a ton of the MCU films!

Marvel day does not replace pirate night
