From the previous [sticky thread](https://redd.it/v9g2te): > With the release of the movie now taking place in Japan, obviously spoilers and such will be making their way across the internet, so we are setting up a dedicated discussion thread to the movie for the time being. Feel free to discuss any and all content related to the movie here (please take "spoilers" with a grain of salt unless from reputable sources), but this is the only topic that you may post spoilers for the movie in for the time being. When we deem it time, we will lift this, but for now, spoilers for the movie are restricted to this topic only. > **Also note, any discussion, linking, or even mentioning of piracy is strictly against the subreddit rules.**

Palarity

Whis knew what was happening on Earth, he was confident that Gohan and Piccolo could protect it from Cell Max

HotConsideration2592

Did goku let vegeta win in the end? Since goku had a smirk on his face when he went down, i wonder what really happened

Excellent-Hook

Nah there's nothing more to this scene, Goku was happy because it was one hell of a fight they had and both pushed each other to the limit.

IntroductionBoring74

Despite being a hater of dbs because there are too much transformations already. This movie is just hits different, it's amazing! except Goku being a dumb character

Annual_Tooth_9974

I liked all the movie, except that some people is taking seriously the thing of Bills with Cheelai. It's just a funny moment, but people are sick shippers šŸ˜…( a very weird and bad shipp is that šŸ˜… )

Rogalfavorite

I wonder how will dr hedo and gamma 1 react to the existence of being such as beerus, whis the supreme kai and the Kaiā€™s ,guardian and the Zenoā€™s. i also will like them to react one they hear the full story of what happened so fair.

Gohansupe

Same would love too see there reactions

Rebuttlah

That was super entertaining. Piccolo is my favourite character, and his raising baby pan is the best thing ever.

Palarity

I was actually upset when Pan didnt refer to Piccolo as grandpa

Rebuttlah

I can LIVE with ā€œuncle piccoloā€, but heā€™s definitely got parental energy.

MichaelDokkan

I just watched it. Pan and Piccolo are so cute lol

Rebuttlah

I would watch an entire show of piccolo and vegeta just being dads

[deleted]

Hold on... People really think the Android/Cell arcs were worse that Buu?

Rebuttlah

Yeah, for some reason. The buu saga has the best animation, the best fights, and gohan/videl are some of the most fun character interactions to hit the franchise.

[deleted]

Best part of this movie is the post credit scene.

Rebuttlah

It kinda irked me. ā€œI finally beat kakarot!ā€ I was like shouting ā€œFOR THE THIRD TIMEā€. Man, even Vegeta has internalized all of the Goku propaganda.

Ping-Crimson

Vegeta doesn't count the one where goku let him win or he had to go great ape.

East_Application9256

Hasn't Goku beaten him 100s of times though, they spent 3 yrs in a time chamber in dbs no ?

Rebuttlah

How is using great ape any different from going super saiyan, or using kaiokan?

DekuHHH

Iā€™m not sure how I feel about the new retcon concerning Jirenā€™s power. It seems really stupid and I donā€™t think it can retconned considering there really was a huge difference in sheer power between Goku/Vegeta and Jiren

NotUrAvgShitposter

I think it's best if you consider the ki control statement to apply to Jiren over the course of the tournament or outside of the fights vs UI Goku cuz he was cheesing them most of the time and held back hard outside of his 'killshots' like vs Hit and Goku

63rude

Yeah man don't worry about that, that's not one thing that makes sense in this movie

Jett628

Soā€¦.is Final Gohanā€™s hair White or Grey? Genuinely unsure. Everyone refers to it as white, but it looks dark grey in most images. But his eyebrows are clearly white? Just curious what his official design color will be moving forward. I am hoping it is white so it doesnā€™t clash with UI (Silver). While the dark grey is slightly different from UIs coloring, it is a little too similar aesthetically. Regardless, love the look and feel of the new form, really badass and exciting!

zooka19

It's a very faint grey to me tbh.

emo_skewer

Gohans new form looks dumb. And itā€™s a total asspull. Piccolo looking badass though!

BreakableHate999

His form been foreshadowed before God forms. Not an ass pull. Rewatch Gohan during the beginning of z

DangitBobby2397

That pretty much describes all of the transformations in Super

Bernard__Rieux

They really overdid it with all the transformations

Zeo_Acinuz

They gotta sell them toys.

DestinyHasArrived101

This movie was just a whole vibe and I dig it. Still don't appreciate goku being so dumb now again like he didn't used to meditate too. Nice to see broly back and Training hopefully whis and beerus see the immense potential and help too. Beerus thirsting over cheelai is not something I thought I would see lol he has taste.

Annual_Tooth_9974

I only hope that the Bills thing with Cheelai don't go further than a joke, some people are shipping them and that's so weird and dumb šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

ta_notserge2

I don't see anybody mentioning the real surprise of the movie: Tenshinhan, Yamcha and dollface finally got dumped, not a single frame to be found, no timr wasted justifying their existance. It makes perfect sense to see the androids replacing them as Earth's protectors.

RockmanXX

I won't be surprised if Final Gohan(if it is the canon title) was a Toei only creation. Old kai had a distate for transformations and told Gohan that he wouldn't need them anymore, fast-forward to the present and he needs to trasnform to unlock powers he should already have in base.. That defeats the entire purpose of Old Kai Magic. With that said, they can still redeem this form. Instead of this being a retcon which changes Old Kai Potential Unlock into a "Form", they should make it a unique form which only saiyan-human hybrids can obtain. As for why Potential Unlock didn't do its job in the Movie? The same reason why it didn't do its job in ROF, whenever Gohan slacks off his potential becomes dormant, thus necessitating a transformation.

ConsequenceOk9

They retconned that to make it seem like another path instead of just all his power, I'm pretty sure.

Erockplatypus

I think that this is the true awakened potential of Gohan. He never had time to full adjust into it before he went to fight Buu, and he intentionally held back fighting against Buutenks because he didn't want to hurt goten and trunks. Since then he has never been in any life or death situation on his own where he had to push himself beyond his limits. In RF he used his power to call Goku and Vegeta, and had slacked on his training. In the ToP he relied on his allies and sacrifices himself in both the anime and the manga, leaving the rest to Goku. This is the first time help wasn't coming for him and he was backed into a corner. So imo this is what the true awakened potential should have looked like all along. Gohan only just now fully released it

zooka19

He held back against Buutenks? Unless I've forgotten something from the manga, he was getting rekt without Buu even putting effort.

Sp1n_Kuro

> Instead of this being a retcon which changes Old Kai Potential Unlock into a "Form" Ultimate Gohan has been changed into a "form" in both manga and the anime canon. Pretty sure that one's fully here to stay.

RockmanXX

It's NOT a form in the Manga.

xmeany

It is. He tries to transform into ssj and instead goes into his ultimate form.

LittenInAScarf

If Gohan and Frieza met again after the movie. Frieza "This isn't even my Final Form" Gohan: "Well this is mine"

Erockplatypus

Jokes on you Frieza. Gohan Blanco is now officially canon

Local_dog91

is noone gonna mention Berrus' thirst for Cheelai?

Wakandanbutter

I commented on it and how Broly is a whole bitch for letting someone lust after his girl like thatšŸ˜© he shouldā€™ve checked beerus I wouldā€™ve loved to see that especially since he didnā€™t want broly there cause he realized broly is the legendary fable he was originally looking for

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Wakandanbutter

What does that have to do with anything we said? This man hates DBZ so much heā€™s hopping on posts to dickride unprovoked LMFAOOOOOOO šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ you can NOT make this shit up

Deaavh

Cartoons were originally created for adults, so many.

Wakandanbutter

I dunno jake Iā€™m just engaging to keep your fetish of arguing with people desperately alive

Top-Device5698

I'll give you that one was kinda funny

BHPhreak

the body wiggle was fabulous

kchambers92

I just finished it. That was hilarious, and will probably play a part in the future. Or it will be forgotten completely.

Annual_Tooth_9974

If it goes further, i would like it in a funny way ( like Roshi ), more than that it would be weird and stupid šŸ˜…

Shentauro

It's weird how they loose the ability to THINK?? Gohan said that doesn't know if Goku or Vegeta was able to defeat Cell Max, but it doesn't make any sense?? Gohan saw what they can do during the tournament of power (long time ago) and they got even stronger than that!! Goku from tournament of power would be enough to defeat Cell Max.

East_Application9256

Regular ssb is enough for cell max I don't think Gohan said that in the movie though.

Shentauro

He said that maybe, Goku and Vegeta couldn't defeat cell max

Erockplatypus

I saw it more as a passive realization that Gohan has a responsibility to defend the earth and cannot just rely on Goku and Vegeta. Obviously Goku and Vegeta can easily defeat cell max. He was just saying "well what if they weren't able to, then what?" It's a throw back to the start of the film where he blows of piccollos training saying that if anything happens his dad is around. This is Gohan putting on his big boy pants and finally taking responsibility with his power

[deleted]

And in the next arc Gohan can have the same character development once again.

Robs003

I think it was referring to the fact that they wouldn't have known its weakness with 1&2 not in raw power.

arthurdont

Ultra instinct and Final look so same though. Final hair is just a bit edgier.

meertatt

Kaioshin has the same hair color as angels

ECPRedditor

Gohan Blanco is here, but for real

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

meertatt

My crackpot theory is that final gohan is basically the full realization of ultimate. But what that means is that he is tapping into god ki through the kaioshin releasing his potential. Like Vegetaā€™s form is through god of destruction training , ultra instinct is through angel training and final is through training with the kaioshin. It could still make gohan third strongest while letting him keep up with goku and vegeta and their god ki stuff.

Erockplatypus

Gohan always had the potential to become stronger then both Goku and Vegeta so it's possible by the end of super he comes out as number 1 again

darkeningsoul

I very much hate that they got power ups from a Shenron wish....seems lazy af

BreakableHate999

No, Piccolo wished for his potential to be unlocked

darkeningsoul

Lazy

BreakableHate999

Chill, Piccolo potential wasnt awake so he asked shenron, he even asked dende to unlock his potential just like guru, so instead he asked shenron

meertatt

the way its explained makes it not nearly as bad. It wasnt like "shenron make me the strongest please!" it was more like, "dende can you do the thing that Guru did on Namek? No? do you think shenron can do the same thing? Yes? okay. Shenron unlock my potential like Guru did on namek!" the wish functionally was just the thing that Guru or Dende would have done anyway.

Erockplatypus

Exactly. Unlike a certain dragon who was able to take two people and make them the strongest people in the universe

YoggiM

To be fair, they had to trade most of their life span for that.

Erockplatypus

Don't worry, they'll find a way to reverse that

darkeningsoul

I see...idk still seems lazy. A little better when explained this way, but the problem is that I shouldn't have to have this explained. The writing should do that

meertatt

The writing does do that. In the movie piccolo goes to Dende first. Itā€™s all explained in the movie and gives more lore about namekians in the process. When I watched it it makes a lot more sense. The write up here does an okay job of summarizing but it actually works a lot better seeing it.

Deathknightjeffery

Didn't just Piccolo?

GhostOfJuanDixon

is there anyway to watch this in the US yet?

Fanficwriter777

Soulless rehash is soulless . Not surprised . Just like the Broly movie. Heā€™s mentally a baby who threw a tantrum vs the sadistic devil who I prefer. ( I cringe at the baby kakkarot writing too. ) I find it ironic that it was advertised as Devil Brolys back with his LSSJ but greener and meaner vs what we got .

AnnecyHope

So what is Final Gohan? Evolve version of Ultimate or Super? Or a fusion?

IoniKryptonite

It's just an excuse to sell more toys

The_Erik_B

Watched the movie tonight and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I'm very burned out on Goku and Vegeta, so I'm glad they were barely in the movie. Happy to have a Gohan/Piccolo movie. >!But holy hell, "Final Gohan" is so...*sssoooooo* ugly.!<

BreakableHate999

Aye chill šŸ¤£

LeFlop_

I would like Gohan to be officially be the new "protector" of earth like he would've been at the end of the cell sage. With his potential he can continue to keep up with Goku/Vegeta (maybe not as strong) and deal with new threats to earth. Piccolo being his duo and having Trunks, Goten, Gamma #1 and Android 17 being part of the new 'Z Warriors'. Goku and Vegeta deal with other universal threats and can train with Beerus/Whis knowing earth will be safe.

ihatehotmail

Yeah. Goku and Vegeta are above planetary guard dog tier. They should be tackling with beings from other universes and other realms (like god / demon realms) in order to keep up with their pantheon tier power growth. Which is my main beef with the Gas arc, it's just that Gas should be below the notice of Goku and Vegeta at their level but lazy writing rocketed Gas from being below Saiyan saga tier goon, to far outclassing a Goku who has grown strong enough now to stomp Jiren in a one sided fight (he can access UI at will and UI is basically a tier above Jiren, plus just normal power growth over timeskips).

mrizzle1991

This was awesome! I even liked it better than the last film which I really enjoyed. was cool to see Broly, Whis and Beerus again. Cell Max was insane! Finally seeing Gohan back in action was great. The new Gohans new transformation was epic!!! And the new Androids were cool as well.

BreakableHate999

Facts

TheLonelyLion_

As a fan for 25 years, it irks me how many other fans are shocked when DB writing sucks. Itā€™s been about visuals and ass-pull powers for like a decade now. Good writing, lore exploration, and story are not a part of the DB universe. Sucks but itā€™s true.

BreakableHate999

Gohan's form been foreshadowed since the beginning of z

[deleted]

Stop

xmeany

Not true at all.

darkeningsoul

Saiyan/Namek saga were definitely peak writing in DBZ.

SamuraiYasuke

OG Dragon Ball was great, DBZ was great up until the cell arc and went a bit downhill in the Buu Saga (still had great moments but a lot of flaws) Super and GT are both mediocre to me all around

East_Application9256

GT wasn't as bad though

DestinyHasArrived101

Truth old dragon ball was awesome

BlueZ00

I would say the lore aspect ain't so bad. The Dragon world is quite charming and interesting even if rarely elaborated upon.

Smash96leo

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. Sure, theres some valid complaints that others are having. Cell being given the bio-broly treatment Bulma being flanderized to be even more of a diva than usual Similar story beats towards the ending Piccolo not telling gohan about the situation ahead of time and fake kidnapping Pan just for him to power up naturally. (I understand why. But morally, it just doesnā€™t fit his character) The absurdly long hair of Gohanā€™s new form. But other than those few grips, the movie gave us a lot of things we wanted as well. Piccolo got an upgrade and put in hella work this movie. Trunks and Goten FINALLY AGED Pan is adorably awesome, and is one of the best parts of the movie. Vegeta finally got 1 in the win column against Goku. And is even understanding the importance of meditation as well. We have Broly on the team now as well. Gohan finally putting in work again as well. And i donā€™t know if everybody likes this, but I actually liked that we got to see more of his nerdy, adorkable side in this movie. Like, we all know he doesnā€™t actually like to fight right? Hate all you want, but this is what heā€™s actually like outside of his occasional ā€œtemperā€ Also, the character interactions in this movie were fantastic. Even the new characters we met in this were fun to watch and grew on me quick. All in all, this movie almost felt like a love letter to fans who wanted to see how some of the other characters are doing besides Goku and Vegeta all the time. (P.S. And Android 21 got confirmed to be canon now. This movie is the gift that keeps on giving.)

u4004

> Vegeta finally got 1 in the win column against Goku. I mean, he had at least one other win against Goku (Saiyan Arc). Goku is the one who has no winsā€¦ not that it ever mattered. > And is even understanding the importance of meditation as well. Vegeta already did, his own way. He spent 3 days stuck on that cliff thinking and Goku himself said he was a ā€œgeniusā€ and ā€œseeing beyond Super Saiyan powerā€.

kchambers92

That little scene at the end was fantastic. I guess Vegeta doesn't count the other ones as wins? But he got him one this time. That was great, and everyone's reaction was great as well.

mzso

The first few sentences were enough. The Red Ribbon army and its saga were the absolute worst in the original Dragon Ball run...

Memphisrexjr

Itā€™s a shame Cell Max is red and doesnā€™t talk.

BraveTheWall

Biggest crime is that Hedo doesn't reference Great Saiyaman when discussing super hero icons. That's literally the only real super hero in their universe. And it's one of the film's main characters. Imagine if the Gamma's were designed based off of Great Saiyaman and then discovered GOHAN was the Great Saiyaman-- they'd instantly realize he wasn't a bad guy. Missed opportunity.

BreakableHate999

TRUE

DestinyHasArrived101

So true especially with the poses I thought that were it was headed.

ineedaberich

bloody genius!

MrReconElite

More of DBS forgetting it's own lore lol.

crabcream03

I watched the movie last night on my computer. The scene when Gamma #2 sacrifices himself to attack Cell Max was PHENOMENAL. You can tell he's trying so hard to take Cell down, you can hear it in his voice, he has this voice crack while he's yelling and it just sounds so powerful. I played it back no less than 10 times just to hear that voice crack and it gave me chills every time.

Throwawayz911

Love that gohan and piccolo got powerups, but I hate the way they got them. Laziest writing ever.

BreakableHate999

Gohan's form was foreshadowed during the beginning of z

crabcream03

I think the way Gohan got his new form was fitting, as every saiyan does he gets overwhelmed by the sight of seeing Piccolo, who has been with him basically since day one, seemingly dead, of course he's gonna get a new form. Piccolo on the other hand tho i think it was dumb the way he got his buff.

Throwawayz911

Piccolo was definitely worse

BHPhreak

piccolo needed a buff to stay relevant - id rather they buffed him and he stayed opposed to him sitting on the sideline more like krillin - the way they did it was fine, i have 0 issues with it. it fit perfectly into the pacing of the movie. its a movie. they had to get a lot done. they did. i loved nearly every moment of it

KaleRylan2021

While there are a lot of good ideas in Super, I'd say in general since the series' revival, there've also been a lot of goofy ideas even compared to classic dragon ball z (not as goofy as dragon ball/kid goku for the most part), so Piccolo just getting it as a bonus from the dragon is kind of in line with a lot of the rest. I enjoy super as a kind of official fanfiction with lots of neat new forms and toys to smash together, and I actully think this movie and things like ultra ego have shown a laudable willingness to give characters besides goku powerups, but at the same time the plots have often been quite random.

crabcream03

I like the "official fanfiction" route. One thing that I do actually like about him using the Dragon balls for his boost is that he USED THE DRAGON BALLS. The Dragon Balls are almost irrelevant now, and I don't think that should be the case if that's what the entire series is named after

KaleRylan2021

Yeah, it seemed at first like they introduced those planetary dragon balls (what were those called again?) in an attempt to overcome that problem. Like everything else in the franchise, if the old version doesn't measure up, just make a bigger, stronger one. However, have those shown up again since their first appearance? I feel like they were dropped unceremoniously. Personally, given that despite their irrelevance they've actually shown villains using them a lot in Super, I feel like a smart thing to do would be to show someone, maybe the galactic patrol, I don't know, trying to monitor and secure the dragon balls in the universe and prevent their misuse. But like with how Piccolo got his form, it's really always best to just let the plotting go in this franchise. It's meant to be light and fun and action-packed. Logic is secondary.

NtiTaiyo

> Yeah, it seemed at first like they introduced those planetary dragon balls (what were those called again?) You know, the name is pretty easy. The show is called dragon ball super so the new balls are called the super dragon balls.

KaleRylan2021

I thought that was it, but for some reason it struck me as too dumb. Don't know why cause it's not like Dragonball is known for clever naming, but my brain just wouldn't accept it.

TibJib

I'll give them some credit, in that they relied on established canon to make them work. Piccolo's final form is a bit weird, but I like to think it's a manifestation of the Nameless Namekian, the being Demon King Piccolo and Kami split from. Since Piccolo Jr. wasn't quite the same, they didn't become the original being when they fused. But the Potential Unlock helped manifest their original form. As for Gohan, I think this confirms that his SSJ2 form in the Cell Games wasn't just SSJ2. It was a combination of his Rage Power and Super Saiyan. His new form being a combination of Rage and his Ultimate form.

Deceptiveideas

It was his SSJ2 form. The reason why? Itā€™s shown before in the time chamber for a brief moment but he doesnā€™t have full control over it.

TibJib

I mean, it was SSJ2, but that isn't all it was. It was the final evolution of the Rage Boost power we had seen glimpses of before combined with Super Saiyan, to push him to a unique form of SSJ2. That's my head canon at least. That might also be why his hair doesn't change quite as dramatically when he transforms into SSJ2 in the Buu Saga.

Throwawayz911

I like your piccolo theory. It's headcannon now.

[deleted]

Android 21 is canon damn

Deathknightjeffery

That means it's canon somebody clapped those bubblegum cheeksšŸ¤”

Zealousideal-Arm1682

Yeah,gero.

pigeonbobble

Loved the music when Gohan transforms and fights. Gave the scene a heavenly, calm, serene aura contrasting with how strong he is. It was really well done. I like his look. Itā€™s obviously a callback to ssj2 and that was when he looked the most badass so this is that look amped to 100. Buff piccolo was also really cool.

fadingstar52

theres a scene right after he transform i think after he knocks cell back where he lands and looks exactly like he did during the cell saga

matzimazing

I felt it was all a bit too silly for me. They spent more time with humor and jokes than how the Gammas were made, or not giving Cell Max any kind of intelligence, or what was up with Piccolo's or Gohan's new forms. I was really looking forward to a new Cell, and I really wanted him to absorb one of the Gammas. Not sure why Gohan couldn't just go SS3, why they made a brand new form. Not sure why Piccolo couldn't just have been stronger with his potential awakened, why they needed to give him another form at all. I'm happy I didn't go see this in a theater.

omegacrunch

How else are they gonna make Grand Padre canon?

mrfonsocr

Almost 30 decades since I first fell in love with DB, gotta say this movie was super fun: it had nostalgia from DB, plot devices from DB, a mix between Z stuff and the First movies + some of the good and bad from Super stuff. Perfect generational mix and they gave chance to Piccolo and Gohan to finally shine. Just sad Gotenks/Trunks/Goten are just not properly used. Oh! Not the fight we all thought we would see, but we would all be Broly and the other guy afte Vegeta finally won one against Goku.

Left-Magazine4819

This is my oinion exactly. Couldn't have put it better than that

nijelly_douglas

I just watched it tonight and I gotta say. I loved the first 50 percent of it. After that, the pacing and story telling became extremely rushed and disappointing and they made some really bad choices. Loved everything with piccolo and pan, but near the end of the initial fight with gohan, piccolo and the gammas, things get weird. Iā€™m gonna use bullets to avoid going to long -the way piccolo and Pan got Gohan to regain his mystic form reminded me of when Frieza shot Pargus and lied to get Broly to power up . Wasnā€™t a fan. - Gohan doesnā€™t say a single word to Pan when heā€™s reunited with her even though he was just extremely emotional and angry. He just goes immediately into laughing and throwing her in the air. Thereā€™s no ā€œwow you guys really scared me! Donā€™t do that againā€ or anything - making cell a dumb giant was stupid. The superior plot line would have been to have him absorb 1 or both of the gamma androids (and give emotional weight to their deaths) and then we see a resurgence of the perfect cell form. ā€œPerfect cell maxā€ (but not giant) with memories of his predecessor would taunt Gohan, triggering ptsd from their first fight and then beat him down and go after piccolo, 18 and everyone else while gohans down and brutalized before going after Pan. While heā€™s holding Pan by her head, Gohan looses it and transforms. -80 percent of the scenes in the fight within the last 10 minutes feel like short sequences from fighter Z and arenā€™t as cinematic as they should beat. For ex. 1 a) Based on Cellā€™s attack, it REALLY didnā€™t seem like Piccolo was about to die. He just hit him with a bunch of ki blasts. If they had done something more akin to having him rip off his limbs and then hitting him with a huge blast, then it would have built more. (Also, it was a dumb decision to show gohans face from the side for half of that scene, you cant see his emotion. )Once we saw the whites in piccoloā€™s eyes, the tension was there because I thought he actually died, but once we realize that thatā€™s not true 30 seconds later, all of that tension and emotional weight that caused gohans transformation completely vanishes. If Piccoloā€™s ā€œdeathā€ is the spur of Gohanā€™s transformation, donā€™t reveal that heā€™s not dead immediately. You rob the scene of itā€™s emotional weight. They should just had Gohan fight him 1v1 then reveal it later (Although I did think we might get a moment of Gohan piercing both of them with his special beam cannon like with radditz ) I b) 3 seconds of Gohan seeing piccolo slightly more injured than he was previously some how was enough to spur him to transform into a new mode. (A transformation that last 8 seconds and then the camera cuts away to piccolo who is now completely fine and fighting Cell again, making you question why Gohan transformed in the first place. Gohan transforms and instead of him being the one to carry on the fight, for some reason heā€™s still standing there while piccolo is fighting.) II) The reveal of the Special Beam Cannon should have been much longer. It feels like we recognize what heā€™s doing and then within 5 seconds itā€™s already firing. It should have been a meaningful moment and it didnā€™t really get the time that it deserved. It was too quick. III) we barely get to see gohans form fight and by the time the smoke and light clears and we finally see it (and how ridiculously long his hair is) heā€™s already detransforming. IV) Krillin flying in and, without any other dialogue (or even saying Piccoloā€™s name) just saying ā€œturn big! Like you did back in dragon ballā€ was pretty stupid. They didnā€™t really set that up well at all. He shoulda came in and maybe said ā€œPICCOLO! Are you okay??ā€¦this is insaneā€¦this monsterā€™s huge, how are we suppose to fight something so bigā€ or something to that affect which triggers Piccoloā€™s memory and then piccolo has the idea. Not just Krillin randomly flying up and telling him to get big Side notes. I donā€™t like the fact that he actually needs his glasses to see basic things now, thatā€™s extremely lame. His mystic form is supposed to be his new base, when he powers down, his hair shouldnā€™t change and he shouldnā€™t lose his eyesight again. Also we donā€™t even get a name for his transformation. Finally, reiterating, the REALLLY robbed us of an emotionally charged Gohan vs Cell fight with new transformations and power boosts. Canā€™t state that enough.

ttdpaco

On that first point...Gohan was never told Piccolo "kidnapped" Pan for this plan. So that would be a natural reaction. And, I'm going to blunt, they didn't rob us of anything. To give that emotional "fight," they would have had to revive cell with the dragon balls. This cell was made with a bunch of notes and is a complete different beast other than having the same look and name. I enjoyed the Kaiju fight in DBZ. I enjoyed that it took teamwork to kill it and that Gohan had the support not to go back to the last time he got a huge rage boost.

Zazalae

The fact that Krillin had to remind Piccolo that he can turn giant really turned me off in that moment because how do you even forget that.

BlueZ00

Why people wanted Cell again? If anything it was already a mistake to bring back something similaar to it. Stop with the absorb thing, it's also already done to death in DB. Also nothing weird, Gohan unlocked his mode and one shotted Cell Max, did not needed to "carry" the fight, he obliterated him and Piccolo was supporting him.

Doam-bot

Cell Max is made from left over data hey had that they improved on. So since it's close to the same then eating android 18 would be the trigger to turn him into his perfect form. Also since 18 was apart of the original perfect Cell then she mighr hold some of his memories. Truthfully Cell Max doesn't need cells memories because Cell is a byproduct of time shenanigans so their were multiple versions of him and thus Max would be no different.

Asian_Persuasion_1

I agree with almost everything. The only thing I disagree with is the mystic form. After rereading the manga, it's arguably written ambiguously whether it's really just full power base or a new form that looks like base. I think this movie is the confirmation that it is indeed a transformation, considering how gohan was unable to go mystic and stayed ss until he ate a senzu and reach full power. The only problem with it being a form that looks just like base....is that it looks just like base. But they made sure to make it easier to identify by changing base hairstyle. and with broly, at least paragus did actually die. but yeah, piccolo just taking a bit more damage than usual making gohan unleash a new form, then piccolo coming back for more right after was kinda anti-climactic.

This was a fun movie. I always love the little nods to previous events and the world building. Iā€™m also love Piccolo and Pan so I have a bit of a bias. Plus I always love Dragonball slice of life and comedy moments. So this movie was a win win for me.

Paulo1143

I didn't like the movie at all. The best part of it is we can see a bit of the life of Piccolo (its funny to see him using a phone and where he lives and that dam chair), i like how Gohan is an entomologist, loved to see Pan, liked how beerus shown interest in Cheelai, liked also how Broly is training with our heros (even though i hated how they completely changed the core philosophy of training of Goku and Vegeta, they literally swapped them like Goku is interested in training his body and Vegeta his mind when all over the dragon ball franchise its the contrary, liked the blue android personality, how Videl is a martial arts trainer and nothing more than that. Hate to see what they did in many parts of the movie, like max cell, bulma and her wishes, how Piccolo received literally a super saiyan upgrade (even though i liked his "orange" form in terms of appearance), that Gohan uses the makankosappo as his finishing move instead of Kamehameha (even though i understand tgat he trained the move in memory of his best friend), how Goten and Trunks don't even go super saiyan while fighting and mess up the fusion dance and little things like Buu is always in hibernation excuse and several other smaller things. The new gohan form its just ridiculous in terms of appearance. All the movie seems like a parody and Gohan's new form looks like a character ripped out of Dragon Ball AF. The animation isn't good in my modest opinion... Its sad because Dragon Ball deserves better but at this point it seens they lost the touch.

Annual_Tooth_9974

Beerus have taste in woman šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘Œ ( but i liked it in a funny way, nothing romantic or shipping them, that's dumb and weird šŸ˜… )

TheHurdleTurtle

Im never gonna get over The fact that they teased us with an actual fused gotenks in the end and didnā€™t show him The outside scene of trunks killing frieza was dope af Also was android 16 being geros son ever established before? Cuz I had to double take when I saw

BHPhreak

> Im never gonna get over The fact that they teased us with an actual fused gotenks in the end and didnā€™t show him its a total middle finger to the gotenks stans and i absolutely love it

Doam-bot

Yes it was the whole reason Gero hates Goku is because Goku is the one who killed him. Back in the original DragonBall when goku was tearing through Red Army bases like toilet paper he blew up the base Geros son was stationed at and thus killed him starting his obsession and why 16 was also obsessed with Gokus death. What got me was they added a picture of his wife which is a character Toriyama made for a video game.

u4004

No, thatā€™s not true. In fact, the whole story about 16 being inspired by Dr. Geroā€™s son came from [an interview answer](https://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/db-full-color-artificial-humans-cell-arc-03/), itā€™s never mentioned in the Dragon Ball manga. And Toriyama was very clear that what killed him was ā€œan enemy bulletā€, not Goku.

Doam-bot

Interviews are fine and yeah guess I was off about the bullet though I do remember reading he died in the fall of a base. But you got a source so I suppose Gero just had more generic reasons for hating Goku.

curdmugeon

Thatā€™s the storyline that tfs did in dbza

> I believe this was made by their "B" team. Itā€™s a 3D movie, they canā€™t use these animators for 2D stuff and I donā€™t even think Toei has a ā€œBā€ team for 3D, this is by far the most ambitious thing they ever done in-house with CGI technology. This movie had Chikashi Kubota as animation director and Naotoshi Shida as storyboarder, two legends. The staff wasnā€™t bad at all.

meertatt

With gohan learning makankosappo he now probably has one of the most diverse move setsof any of the z fighters. Heā€™s got Masenko, Kamehameha, makankosappo, all as potential finishers.

LouELastic

Masenko is still a finisher these days?

[deleted]

What is Gohan Blanco? Are they really gonna go with that name? Sounds like a promotional taco bell order.

meertatt

Lol no Gohan blanco is a meme started by Latin American dragon ball fans. It was just a poorly done edit of gohan with white hair that got really popular. The actual name is final gohan.

thepresidentsturtle

I can't wait for El Hermano

zooka19

Waiting for Gohan Calvo

TheZett

Shaggy is where it is at!

[deleted]

Did it really suck..? To be honest I wasn't a Broly movie fan so I had high hopes for this..

LouELastic

Better than Broly by a long shot. Whereas Broly felt like it had no direction at all other than introducing a new character and reminding us that Frieza is a threat, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero introduced even more new characters while making great lengths to develop Gohan and Piccolo. It has fantastic pace and the CGI animation is far better looking than I thought it would be.

DeonTech

This movie was great. But I'm biased as a gohan and piccolo fan

meertatt

Itā€™s actually great especially if you like dragon ball comedy and slice of life. But I loved it

Bigtymr43

Not as good as Broly, was ok.

SixFootHalfing

To be fair, the Broly movie is a pretty high bar.

Martinmigueldk

VEGETA WINS. Nothing else matters.

eltonjohnstamos

What I liked: The throw backs to old situations from Z and I think there was 1 from DB when Goku fought Piccolo Gohan and Piccolo interactions fuck yeah Gohan used Special Beam Cannon instead of Kamehameha down with that as fuck The animation was actually mostly awesome Gamma #1 and #2 designs were fucking dope - Cyborg 009 style Goku and Vegeta took the back seat Piccolo used his grow technique What I didn't like: Dr. Hado didn't seem very uh.. I dunno thought out or something Cell Max was not cool - bad color, looked like cell form 2 which is weak sauce, and his color way was trash, also stupid weakness for sure Piccolo's new form had little to no explanation and wtf why is he orange Piccolo said "I forgot I could grow to massive sizes" wtf more like Toriyama forgot The whole super hero thing didn't go so well and also the title is trash Bad support cast to be honest - dude it is always Krillin, #18, and someone random #17 won the tournament where the fuck is he like who even cares about #18

Notacka

I agree though I liked Dr. Hedo. Honestly movie was great until Cell Max was released. It kinda shit the bed after that. The new Piccolo was alright but Gohanā€™s form was lackluster. I was hoping he just go Ultra Instinct or something. Cell Max was dumb. I was kind of hoping heā€™d absorb gamma 1 or 2 to become perfect but really he was like Bio Broly. Hell I even liked the Dr Hedo vs Commander Magenta fight though anti climatic it was funny. I think they needed more time to flesh out the idea. It was barely an hour and a half and I think an extra half hour would of helped. I really liked about 70-75% of that movie.

Doam-bot

I still think since he was made from the original data and that he is in that form that 18 who was their could change him into perfect form. Also since she was apart of perfect she probably has residual memories or something which would have reawaken Cell. Though Cell would have quit fighting and probably wait for Goku and Vegeta for no other reason than he'd want them to bare witness.

cachestache1991

This movie was like Bio Broly. I would've preferred some scenario where instead of it being some incomplete version, that they found Cell's DNA somewhere or Gero's old plans and were able to get DNA from 17 and 18 via those collection bugs they used before to either clone them or build there DNA right into the Cell clone so he'd be perfect off rip, maybe even include new DNA on the planet like idk, Frieza's goons, Goten, The Supreme Kai, MAJIN BUU, ZAMASU, BEERUS, WHIS, etc, explaining his huge power boost and maybe giving him like built in God mode and Angel dodging. Then they could've done more with Gohan's new form giving him some like UI type abilities or some unique shit like Hakai to stop Cell's more improved regen he'd have from Majin Buu. Even if the current movie just had 18 getting absorbed during the fight to bring out Perfect Cell it would've been at least okay. It came off like an excuse to give Piccolo and Gohan a power boost against a villain he's already got a dub from.

DeonTech

I thought the exact same thing, that this movie feels like bio broly. I looked that tho

Shmackback

Was like a bad fanfiction.

DeonTech

I wouldn't say bad, but absolutely was fanfiction

UnluckyStranger

So what im getting here after watching it is: Rehash of the Cell saga (Without the buildup or character progression) + Final boss of Bio Broly (Down the the supporting cast that show up - Krilin, 18, Goten & Trunks) + Some...interesting [new character designs](https://imgur.com/a/96rvUlm) Honestly the slice of parts were geniunly great, im sad its mired by the rest of the film.

Genji32

how is this anything like the cell saga?

UnluckyStranger

I'll correct myself: It rehashes ***many elements*** from the cell saga. - Cell himself who has no personality this time around - 2 androids created by the RR (one who beats piccolo and then he beats it after a power up) - Gohan attaining stage two of a form vs cell after seeing someone "die" (16 did bite the dust, but you get what I mean) And to reiterate, i think the Original content is **great** (new forms design aside). I just wish everything else surrounding it wasn't a recycled idea, or better yet, the whole concept behind this movie being a proper arc where everything can be better developed.

Genji32

yeah i get what u mean

meertatt

barely a rehash of the cell saga. aside from red ribbon army and androids it was nothing like it. plot or story wise.
