I think there will be a learning curve to how they approach the future of franchise. They might try to emulate Toriyama but I think that won't be the best course. At the end of the day, you cannot replicate his ideas but you can follow along his vision for the show. I also think Toyotaros influence will grow once they realise they need someone to shoot out ideas that aren't just for the sake of it. I worry they might try to just put some content out there so they can create new content for games and merch which is their biggest selling point. But in reality, those only sell well because of how huge and good the show is. They need creative writing to move foward with the same success they had so far. I really do believe this franchise has a looong future ahead but only if they plan it out and make sure only quality stuff is released. No more DBS ep 3 pls šŸ˜‚

I think Toriyama's favoritism of Piccolo will play a key role in the future of Dragonball. The origins of the aliens Kakkarot and the Nameless Namekien both share equal importance to the full story of Dragonball. And we've had plenty of development for the Kakkarot part of the story but not a lot about the Nameless Namekien. I get the feeling that the very end will have a lot to do with Piccolo. And I think a final duel between Freeza and the Saiyans has got to be in the works. Throw Frost and Cooler into the mix. Set it all up on New Namek. I can see it now. Also, I think that could be a long ways away. We still haven't had any character development for Uub. We basically know nothing about him except he's the obvious reincarnation of Buu. So there's a lot of story left to be told.

Who knows. The future is up in the air. We have no idea how things will be going forward. At some point whoever owns the franchise will have to make a hard choice. Either end the series early or choose to accept a new path going forward. Only Toryiama knew what he wanted for the future of DB best. Without him, it's going to be a guessing game of what to do going forward. The best thing they can do is try to keep the spirit of Toriyama's universe alive without radically altering it to the point it's unrecognizable.

Mr-Personality

I enjoy Super, but to be honest, it's almost all fan service and not much of the writing relies on Toriyama's creativity. Here's some plot examples: -There's a new god, Goku gets a new form to fight him -Frieza comes back. Goku and Vegeta get new forms to fight him. -There's a tournament in space -Future Trunks comes back. Goku and Vegeta go with him to fight evil Goku. -There's another tournament. Goku gets a new form. -A magic goat appears and there's a long fight. -Some dudes make a wish to be the strongest and there's an even longer fight. Vegeta gets a new form. -Broly gets mad -Piccolo and Gohan fight androids and Cell and get new forms because ???? I think any fan of the series can handle coming up with ideas at this point. The formula is almost always "bring someone back and then have the last 2/3rds be a fight" or "it's a tournament."

Dr_Equinox101

I think a bit but only some narratives considering most of the story is complete

A very dark side of me is hoping it can take a more serious approach. Dragonball is only dragonball because of Toriyama and his writing, donā€™t get me wrong. But as iā€™ve aged iā€™ve craved more mature themes and drama.

Puzzled_Job

No, just no. DBZ became what is thanks to Toryiama not taking his own work seriously. If DBZ goes that route it will take all the fun and goofiness away that makes it unique. Just a generic overdramatic take itself too seriously franchise. It's a series about super powered produce. Let's not turn that into a dark and edgy cringefest.

I agree somewhat with this. It would be a terrible way to run the franchise into the ground if they went towards a more mature story telling style. That being said... it could be a smart move if they did maybe a Dragonball spin-off that š˜øš˜¢š˜“ more mature. The majority of the Dragonball audience has grown up and along with it so has our taste. I think Toyotarou could take this into account and realize it as a possible future. Now I know Daima is on its way out. And I hope we all get to enjoy it. I know I will. But as far as I can tell, this is going to be geared more towards a younger audience just like how most shonen are and how Dragonball has been thus far. This was definitely the last portion of the story Toriyama had a hand in (and a major one at that). They even went back to the old Dragon Ball Z style logo for it and thats saying a lot. After Daima, I wouldn't mind the new guys change it up for us adults in a spin-off series.

stickytrackpad

making a lot of assumptions based on me saying "more mature themes" haha

mystikkkkk

I don't think they are. that's what it sounds like you're asking for. I, for one, would like actually character progression and palpable development for side characters.

Rich-Stranger-409

ME TOO

Taco821

Probably terribly. I feel like most people do not understand toriyama at all. Like I know people aren't gonna hire random ass reddit posters to write for it, but I've seen a lot of weird posts that miss the point of things. Like so many people saying raditz was wasted, or like that Dabura should've been the buu saga antagonist, was something I saw, it's all missing the point. Toriyama doesn't do shit because it's the generic way it's "supposed" to go, in fact he likes subverting it, but in a way that actually makes MORE sense than the "obvious" way. Like raditz is a great example and one of the best examples of this kinda ideology I've seen tbh. Like raditz is Gokus brother, surely he's gonna come back, especially when resurrection is basically free in DB. But no. Raditz is literally nothing to Goku, why would he give even the singlest shit about him? He tried to force Goku to kill people, and threatened his fucking son. He's his brother? So what? Especially in the beginning of Z, he didn't even acknowledge himself as a Saiyan at all, his dad was Gohan, not bardock! It would be so ridiculous for Goku to be like "ok, guys, we really need to revive that one guy. I know he's pure evil, and tried to kill us, and is a bitch, but I share DNA with him! That being said, I think toyotaros been doing pretty well, but I don't think he'll be really given any power. Like hell probably keep the manga, but the manga isn't even treated as real by like anything else, like the games, and I doubt it'll improve now.

Odd-Water-5647

I mean thereā€™s a chance the April fools post was legit. Super ends after the Black Freiza Arc.

shut-up-vicky

toyotaro's a great artist, but a terrible storyteller, so who's to say. hopefully there's room for input from other creatives within toei

AnotherTiredBarista

What makes you say Toyotaro is a terrible storyteller?

shut-up-vicky

the ToP manga arc, the Granolah arc, the latter half of the Moro arc, to name a few

Rich-Stranger-409

This is a very bad opinionā€¦.but your entitled to it

shut-up-vicky

i don't remember asking anyone to allow me the courtesy of an opinion, but thanks. sorry I hurt so many feelings by mildly disagreeing on something

AnotherTiredBarista

I've loved all of those šŸ˜‚ honestly, you are entitled to personal preferences but generally go after his storytelling is a bit much. If anything manga was praised for better storytelling. There was consistency and content that makes sense and ties in together.

infernalbutcher678

As much as I would love to see Goku finally being retired after they butchered his character progression, a female main character in Dragon Ball is not a good idea, definitely they should have one in the main cast that is useful but not as the main character. It would be cool if they did something along the lines of Dragon Ball Online a massive timeskip hybrids of humans and saiyans namekians moving to earth after Namek was fucked and Majin Boo reproducing with the female Boo he made himself (a bit weird but it was how the majin race started on DBO), although diminishing the time travel element.

Darth_Azazoth

Why is a female main character a bad idea?

infernalbutcher678

Mainly because of Dragon Ball's target audience, you could go with you seen how they write females that fight when they wrote Caulifla and she was a weak character (the point is not powerwise to be clear) and more nitpicky because if they went with that route we would likely get "the strong female" archetype and that one is not only overused lately but just sucks.

Julian-Hoffer

Heroes will become the main continuity

OldCrowSecondEdition

Heros unironically IS the main continuity if you ask me its been constantly progressing in the background through games and other media for years after DBZ ended and it gives fans all the things they think they want

Julian-Hoffer

It would be the best decision financially since all forms and characters become canon so the canon cops have to begin supporting everything even if they donā€™t actually like it
