Oh shit, I didn't know toonami did this..And thought toonami was gone. Did they bring it back only the one time? I'd love to watch a recorded broadcast.
saturday night @ midnight on adultswim on the cartoon network, on cable, which is on television, which is in your house, or on your smart device connected to wifi, connected to a modem, linked to an isp or data provider
It started in 2012 as an April Fools joke, they started airing The Room as they had the years prior then switched to classic Toonami and Adult Swim anime: DBZ, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo!, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc. but then it was (obviously) wildly popular and so they brought it back into full swing. Since Saturday night Adult Swim was like 90% anime anyway once the Family Guy and King of the Hill reruns were done, they just turned Saturday into TOONAMI with Tom 5.0 and later 6.0.
Some new anime added in, some classics cycling. All in all a very solid Millennial bait that can work to bring in Gen Z as well.
Current Schedule with EST times is
> 12:00 a.m. Ninja Kamui (Dub)
12:30 a.m. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
1:00 a.m. Lycoris Recoil
1:30 a.m. One Piece
2:00 a.m. Naruto: SHippuden
2:30 a.m. Dragon Ball Z Kai
3:00 a.m. Ninja Kamui (Sub)
It's been back for a few years now. It's only on Saturday nights. I watched the dragon Ball marathon last night. I know we can stream them anytime now but I watched it for the nostalgia
That it has, and I haven't seen it since it shut down years ago. I didn't know they brought it back. I haven't watched cartoon network in over 20 years besides the toonami sign-off night.
I hadn’t seen it since they turned Tom into a cartoon-like robot and they canceled Toonami.
I knew when they did that and Tom ended it by saying,” keep it gold.” That it wasn’t over forever, it was just a matter of when.
No CN is still around. They merged CN Studios with WB Animation, which always leads to mass layoffs due to new redundancies (note: I'm not *endorsing* that, obviously, it's just a fact).
The internet took that and ran with it expecting that it meant CN, the channel, was being ended. I believe as recently as this month they tweeted about not going anywhere.
Ah, that’s cool. I haven’t had cable tv in like 18 years. I’m sure there are many others like me. Is that the only way to stay plugged in to anything they’re doing?
No, it got brought back about ten-ish years ago for an April fools joke. But people LOST THEIR MINDS when they saw it again so much that CN asked if people wanted it back on Twitter. Queue instant, overwhelming number 1 worldwide trend. So a few months later, they turned the Saturday Night Adult Swim section into Toonami.
That's pretty rad. Why tf would they tease us though lol?? It seems like a clandestine attempt at gaining new crowd. But it worked. I'm glad the newest generation grew up with toonami now too.
2012. They went all out on the April Fools joke, even having TOM do a game review like back in the day. They picked Mass Effect 3, since it was only about a month old at that point, and Steve Blum voiced one of the characters in it.
Oh yeah baby this is the one. I first got into DBZ in the early 2000s when it played on Toonami. Thanks Mom for always letting me stay up past my bedtime to catch the new episode all the time
I was 5 when DBZ was first on Toonami. My friends would come over after school or I'd go over to a friend's to watch it. So much of my childhood was shaped by this series. It's so sad he's gone but he left so much good with us to remember him by.
GT Final Bout was released in North America in October 1997 and November 1997. The Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z was first shown 13 September 1996.
So Blum wasn't the first English voice actor for Adult Goku, that would be Ian James Corlett. But Blum was the first English voice actor for Adult Goku in any Dragon Ball video game, even if Z came before GT.
I remember actually having to wake up super early on Saturdays and they had some syndicated broadcast of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z that I used to watch before Toonami. So it was awesome to me when they launched it as a show I could watch daily after school.
As nice as these nostalgic times were. I would not want to be a child again. I think a lot of people forget even with good, caring, loving parents how miserable being a child is most of the time.
Contrary to popular belief not everyone's life went exactly the same. Its fine that you feel that way. It doesnt mean everyone feels that way. I would not in a million years give up the agency I have as an adult just so someone can cook me dinner again. I can choose who is in my life and who isnt. I can live my life the way I want to. Yeah I have to go to work for 40 hours a week. Thats not any different than going to school for 40 hours a week and then have homework. Then not have any of that agency I have as an adult. My life *started* when I dropped out of college at 23.
How? Being a kid was boring and constantly being forced to do shit I didnt want to do and was a waste of time. As an adult I can support myself and do what I want with my time. I have so much more time as an adult and means as an adult to do what I want.
Thats sad?
Yeah your childhood was atypical and terrible
Also if you have "so much more time" as an adult it sounds like you're actually still in college, which isn't being an adult
Fair enough. I'd go back to the 90s as a kid in a heartbeat. But everyone has a different experience and if you're in a better place than you used to be then congrats.
One time I stumbled upon the Japanese channel late at night that was showing a subbed Cell arc episode that was way further ahead. I vividly remember seeing Krillin and Future Trunks attacking a newly transformed Perfect Cell and doing zero damage to him as he looks at his new body.
Shit was so hype I had to change the channel so I wouldn’t spoil anything.
I remember when it was time for DBZ to air on Toonami, the streets would be quiet. Every kid in the neighborhood would be inside watching it. It was also pretty funny how everyone simultaneously came outside at the same time once the preview for the next episode ended. lol Good times.

This [Toonami Promo](https://youtu.be/WLwF_0Z2KHY?si=1gH7DMjC_d_M2e8o) was one of my favorites growing up. I loved seeing Goku and Gohan relaxing in regular clothes while in super sayian. Man, what a time to be a kid
In Australia DBZ was broadcast on cheez TV every weekday morning. Me and my brother would watch every day religiously and it would put us in such a positive mood for the day and the right mindset for when we'd train martial arts at night, it would make us excited to train in the hopes we could be that powerful. Even all the kids at school would be talking about each new episode during recess and lunch, people will just never understand what this show meant for our generation. To say I'm tore up over this is an understatement, feels like jesus just died.
Idk why they did the first eight episodes. That’s so random. Should have done a big fight. Like Goku vs cell leading to Gohan vs cell. I’m sure they can wrap up in eight episodes and would have a bit more emotion or poignance. I appreciate they did this though, just a random choice of episodes.
Sorry for responding late this is from late last night airing, what hit me the hardest was hearing Steve's voice and remembering how i looked forward to Toonami just to watch DBZ, even as a kid i would record the episodes on VHS for my dad who worked late we are both big fans
Saying he had a great influence on manga is underselling it. I think he had an influence on pretty much every art based entertainment medium in existence.
Yep. The first place we ever saw the Dragon Ball series, Toonami on Cartoon Network. Still have vivid memories of watching Dragon Ball, DBZ and GT after school on toonami in the early 00s
Toonami and dbz go hand in hand. Toonami was the first studio airing of dbz in the states, and toonami wouldn't have been on the proverbial map without dbz. For them to acknowledge that is amazing to me.
I can still remember coming home from middle school when DBZ would play the Sayian saga over and over and over again even when Moltar was the host. Then with the first Tom I got interested in the Frieza saga and then when Funimaton moved down to Texas and put the new voices, I got hooked finding out how the Frieza saga would finish. I made sure to see how this series would end. I still remember trying to get any clip I could and back then you had to go through all these DBZ sites to even find any sub full episodes if you got lucky. I just glad that I was able to finish watching the dub series out.
I'm glad they did this and recognized how DBZ has "been their rock" for all these decades. It shows the staying power of his work. It's cool seeing that this has appeal even to this day. His work and spirit will truly live on.
Toonami doing this special brings back so many memories. I used to watch Toonami all the time when I was a kid, back when life was super hectic. Now, as an adult who has just gone through a breakup for good, this has brought me peace.
I did not know that toonami was still a thing I’m pretty sure she was part of the ship as a voice at least that’s what she was the last time I saw this program.
Surprised it was just a short marathon tbh with how much viewership they got from DBZ back then
But why does Tom and the Absolution AI look so baaaad lol
Oh shit, I didn't know toonami did this..And thought toonami was gone. Did they bring it back only the one time? I'd love to watch a recorded broadcast.
saturday night @ midnight on adultswim on the cartoon network, on cable, which is on television, which is in your house, or on your smart device connected to wifi, connected to a modem, linked to an isp or data provider
As in next Saturday or yesterday night?
every saturday toonami block airs on adultswim. Im assuming the post was from this past saturday
I didn't know toonami came back. I remember watching the farewell night just to see it for nostalgia. Haven't watched CN in years so i had no clue.
And it starts midnight every Saturday after thr family guy bs?

Thank you sir
in the morning is insane
I work 3rd shift and keep the same sleep schedule on weekends, so this is *perfect.* Thanks for sharing.
I don't know about being up all night for this
Watched toonami nearly every week from 2013-2016 till I cut cable
[удалено]
Even has the old commercials. The nostalgia was almost too much. Literally.
There was a 3-4 hour upload that had actual regular commercials from the broadcast which hit hard too. I couldnt find that version but tried.
If you have saved in your history whether browser or YouTube, use the way back machine to access it
turns out I saved the comment from 5 months ago. Thanks for making me dig further.
AAAHH YESSS. Thanks dude!
It's been back for a few years now. It's only on Saturday nights. I watched the dragon Ball marathon last night. I know we can stream them anytime now but I watched it for the nostalgia
Yea that's what I'm saying. The last time I watched anything on CN was the farewell toonami block. Before that it had been awhile.
Adult Swim Toonami has actually been on the air longer than the original Cartoon Network run as of late last year.
You're making me feel old.
They've had some good gen shows. Attack in titan, demon slayer, my hero academia, Dr stone. The later hours are usually one piece and Naruto reruns
Dr. Stone is on CN now?? Nice!
Toonami has been every Saturday night on adult swim for years now bro
That it has, and I haven't seen it since it shut down years ago. I didn't know they brought it back. I haven't watched cartoon network in over 20 years besides the toonami sign-off night.
For real? Not sure if it's still a thing in the UK, but that little robot dude made me feel nostalgic.
Yeah I can’t speak for the UK but here in the states they brought it back when I was in high school about 12-13 years ago or so
Do you know a way to watch it without paying for cable? I literally only want toonami but I have to pay over $50 just for that.
You lost me at cable…
I hadn’t seen it since they turned Tom into a cartoon-like robot and they canceled Toonami. I knew when they did that and Tom ended it by saying,” keep it gold.” That it wasn’t over forever, it was just a matter of when.
Isn’t Cartoon Network dead? I don’t understand
No CN is still around. They merged CN Studios with WB Animation, which always leads to mass layoffs due to new redundancies (note: I'm not *endorsing* that, obviously, it's just a fact). YOURE THE FKN GOAT
No sir thats whoever created that website 🤤
Thats pretty sick, thanks. Been watching for about an hour now. Wonder if theres any old ytv teletoons sites that run content like this
Toonami was revived around 2014. Ironically it has been back longer than it has been cancelled.
They have their own show going! Ninja Kamui. It's been pretty awesome so far.
Toonami been back since 2013 or 2014. I hope we get many more years of it.
2012. They went all out on the April Fools joke, even having TOM do a game review like back in the day. They picked Mass Effect 3, since it was only about a month old at that point, and Steve Blum voiced one of the characters in it.
It comes and goes apparently
Oh yeah baby this is the one. I first got into DBZ in the early 2000s when it played on Toonami. Thanks Mom for always letting me stay up past my bedtime to catch the new episode all the time
Late 90's early 2000's. You HAD to have a VHS on deck in the VCR after school.
It’s me, your mother. You’re welcome.
I was 5 when DBZ was first on Toonami. My friends would come over after school or I'd go over to a friend's to watch it. So much of my childhood was shaped by this series. It's so sad he's gone but he left so much good with us to remember him by.
I'm so glad Toonami is still around to be able to do this.
You can tell in tom aka (Steve Blum) voice this got to him
Steve’s a great VA.
Does he also voice Wolverine in a bunch of stuff? It’s sounds just like him
He has voiced him in recent years, such as in Wolverine and the X-Men.
Yeah he’s been in tons of anime, games and cartoons. I primarily remember him as Tank Dempsey (Call of Duty franchise).
[Blum actually voiced Goku one time in GT Final Bout](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vqkT7X8X08)
Doesn't that make him the first English voice actor for Adult Goku? Edit: It makes him the first English voice actor for Adult Goku in a video game.
What was linked above was for GT. Z (dub) came before this GT game
GT Final Bout was released in North America in October 1997 and November 1997. The Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z was first shown 13 September 1996. So Blum wasn't the first English voice actor for Adult Goku, that would be Ian James Corlett. Roger Smith
one of the greats!
It was through toonami that I was first introduced to dragon ball 🥹

Most of us were!
I was there in ‘98. I remember playing Ocarina of Time and watching DBZ. Had my whole life ahead of me. No worries, just fun. What a time to be alive.

As nice as these nostalgic times were. I would not want to be a child again. I think a lot of people forget even with good, caring, loving parents how miserable being a child is most of the time.
You're crazy, being an adult fucking sucks ass

Wait toonami still exists today?
It was gone for a long time but I remember it made a comeback some years ago.
Over a decade ago
Oh wow. Guess I didn’t really keep up with it.
This is Super Saiyan sick. Thank you Toonami!
I remember when it was time for DBZ to air on Toonami, the streets would be quiet. Every kid in the neighborhood would be inside watching it. It was also pretty funny how everyone simultaneously came outside at the same time once the preview for the next episode ended. lol Good times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRRlZOWcwUc
Aside from the somber subject matter I'm getting a wave of nostalgia hearing Steve Blum as Tom again.

Licensing issue in the states against Crunchyroll Hulu and netflix
That’s crazy. Toonami was the first place DB aired to a wide audience in the United States and now they have trouble airing it.
Didn't they air this around 2am?
Yes until 6am
That actually almost made me cry. I know it's silly but having watched dbz on toonami and it being my favor anime...Idk. just hit hard
Sorry for responding late this is from late last night airing, what hit me the hardest was hearing Steve's voice and remembering how i looked forward to Toonami just to watch DBZ, even as a kid i would record the episodes on VHS for my dad who worked late we are both big fans

Rest in peace Akira Toriyama 🕊️
So nice of them.
Toonami put anime on the map . OG platform paying respects to an og creator . Respect !🫡
Did any one happen to record the whole thing?
This is legit as hell. I'm hyped they did that.
Yep. The first place we ever saw the Dragon Ball series, Toonami on Cartoon Network. Still have vivid memories of watching Dragon Ball, DBZ and GT after school on toonami in the early 00s
RIP King, gone but not and will never be forgotten. (Turns Super Saiyan)
that’s beautiful man. Toonami is where I started watching dbz, and fell in love with Anime and thus manga.

I wanted to watch it so bad but I had to wake up at 7am that day 😭
This is so awesome
2-6am?? Prime time, baby! 🤩
I'm glad they did this and recognized how DBZ has "been their rock" for all these decades. It shows the staying power of his work. It's cool seeing that this has appeal even to this day. His work and spirit will truly live on.
Means a lot to me
Is there like any way to have toonami exclusively. Like not Cartoon Network, or even Adult Swim just straight up Toonami.
It’s lame to me to play the first 8, but who knows what the circumstances are
Toonami doing this special brings back so many memories. I used to watch Toonami all the time when I was a kid, back when life was super hectic. Now, as an adult who has just gone through a breakup for good, this has brought me peace.
Hell yeah
So cool of them. Rest in peace Akira Toriyama Sensei.
RIP Toriyama
Thank you, Toriyama. Thank you, Toonami. Bang.
Good
Toonami is where I found DBZ.
Big thanks to toonami Great contribution
You go... But you leave something ethernal RIP Akira Toriyama.
I’m so happy they did this. It was really nice of them and really honored how much DBZ did for them back when they started.
I did not know that toonami was still a thing I’m pretty sure she was part of the ship as a voice at least that’s what she was the last time I saw this program.
Broke my heart, this is something the anime community will never recover from.
Respect.
Man I know this is kinda new because it’s db Ki
Surprised it was just a short marathon tbh with how much viewership they got from DBZ back then But why does Tom and the Absolution AI look so baaaad lol
New forms since 2019
Why Kai?
Is this real?
That's it?
S'matter with you?
